Tom Clancy's EndWar Headset Bundle Review

I still cannot believe that Endwar has such an amazing voice command system that will pick up on every order your give. You really should invest in the headset bundle to really understand for yourself. Another feature worth listing are the airstrikes and weapons of mass destruction you can call in through your headset to destroy multiple units at once. This game really is a break through in gaming and is worth the extra $$$ for the headset.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Review

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Tom Clancy has long been on the leading edge of theoretical conflicts. Rainbow Six series hunted terrorists before September 11 and now Splinter Cell explores information war.

Available for the PC, X-Box, and Play Station 2 for some time, Splinter Cell was only recently released for the Mac. Though similar in many respects to previous Clancy games, Splinter Cell does away with complex team planning and control in favor of detailed control over a single character.

You play Sam Fisher, the first operator in a new NSA unit intended to exercise the "fifth freedom" - "the right to protect all other freedoms, by whatever means necessary." Under that premise Clancy outlines an information war on a grand scale - something our military is anticipating. Basically, the new president of Georgia begins secretive attacks on his neighbors and the US and Fisher gets caught in the middle during his very first intelligence-gathering mission.

The larger geopolitical conflict that stems from your missions unfolds in quality pre-rendered news clips while the details of your part in the war unravel primarily through in-game radio dialog. Veteran actor Michael Ironsides provides the voice of the protagonist. Like most of the parts, his is well acted, but it doesn't seem to fit Fisher's face. Data sticks collected along the way provide supplemental plot information, but can only be read during the current mission.

The espionage focus of the game is reflected in an innovative control scheme that emphasizes stealth. Success in this game is more a matter of controlling how Sam moves than switching weapons, performing combos, or similar rapid actions that are common in shooters.

A third person perspective with a movable camera allows you to see Fisher at all times. When using a weapon, the camera moves to an over-the-shoulder view that works very well. But if you're playing the game well you shouldn't be using your weapon very often.

Instead, you use the speed control to keep Sam from moving to fast and alerting enemies with his footsteps. You also stick to the shadows so they can't see you (there's a handy light meter that gauges how well hidden you are). A third option is just to be someplace the bad guys won't look. Maneuvers like rappelling, hanging, climbing, peeking around corners, and some advanced film-inspired moves will keep you well out of sight if used properly.

The same techniques are required just to navigate the beautiful and highly detailed levels. Exploiting pipes, ledges, and zip lines is essential to reaching your objectives. And since the controls were designed for console controllers, they are surprisingly simple. The use of a contextual "action" key and a pop-up objectives display when you're not moving are particularly well implemented.

There's even a great tutorial at the start of the game in the form of an obstacle course. Having run many of those myself, I can tell you they're not as easy as super-agent Fisher makes it look!

But boy, does it look good! Even on the low-end. The character animations are the best I have seen anywhere. The pouches on Sam's belt even sway with his body. The level of detail and realism in room interiors is laudable and the use of wind and lighting for ambiance is impressive. Realistic shadows are everywhere and paper, blinds, and sheets of vinyl flutter in the wind and slip over your body as you pass.

All that realism is functional too - if it makes sense, try it. Almost every room has a light switch you can turn off to aid infiltration with night-vision or infrared. You can drop on enemies from above, shoot while hanging or rappelling, and follow footprints from puddles.

When using many tools such as lock-picks and keypads, you are actually presented with a large functioning view of the items to interact with rather than just watching an animation of the character performing the action.

You can't help but feel immersed in the character. There is a sense of action even when sneaking and more when you must take a hostage, shoot a guard, or trigger an explosion. It's a challenge though, so save often.

There's no multiplay, but you can get a lot out of trying to use more stealth and less force or vice-versa as well as switching between the two difficulty settings, "normal" and "hard." In addition to saved games, you can start at the beginning of any level you've completed and load times are short, so replaying a particular mission is easy.

If you're looking for a high-quality action game or are just a fan of Metal Gear Solid or Tom Clancy games, check this one out. Here's hoping the subsequent sequels will also find their way to the Mac soon!

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3 Review

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The original PC version of Rainbow Six 3 was "muy excelente". It featured much freedom throughout the game: it allowed you to plan out your course of action throughout the missions, your operatives, their weapons, and even down to their uniforms. You had the freedom to utilize up to four squads together comprising 8 or less operatives. Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield was clearly the king of all Rainbow Six games. Sadly, these freedoms have not been implemented in Rainbow Six 3 for the Xbox.
It is alarming how the Xbox version could be so different from the PC version. UbiSoft calls it "redefined console oriented gameplay, with a new interface, new circumstantial actions, and clearer icons, to lead Rainbow to success", but it is really more like a stripped down version of the PC version. When the original Rainbow Six came out in 1998, the whole idea, the selling-point of the game was the planning-out of the mission and the one-shot, one-kill process. No longer are these true in the Xbox version. Now, you can only control Ding Chavez, and lead your squad of 4 operatives including Eddie Price, Dieter Weber, Louis Loiselle, and yourself. What about the planning and the one-shot, one-kill policy? Those were thrown out too. Now it is more of a run-and-gun game more along the lines of Half-Life and Unreal. I found that you could take up to 15 bullets before you die. And when Ding Chavez dies, the mission is failed, but if any of the operatives get "incapacitated", they pop right back up for the next mission (assuming you accomplish the previous one without them). In the PC version, if your operatives die, they are gone for the rest of the game, and for injuries, your operatives take about 2 missions or so to recover. Talk about missing realism for the Xbox.

Now, seeing how you are stuck with the same 4 operatives, the least UbiSoft could do was give each of the guys distinct personalities, but that was not the case. You get 4 boring guys that are basically the same except Louis has an annoying French accent.

But, throughout all these caveats about Rainbow Six 3 for Xbox, there are many good things. For example, the lucious graphics based on Splinter Cell. The excellent lighting schemes (shadows, heat-vision, etc.), and fantastic details such as fluttering curtains and volumetric fog have been implemented in this game. Also, the inclusion of voice-recogniion technology for squad commanding is an excelent bonus, which really pulls you into the game. The sound is also excellent like the PC version: the super 5.1 positional sound, and even realistic static as you "talk" to your operatives. The inclusion of Xbox Live is also cool. The multiplayer is excellent and loads of fun. The problem is, is that there is no split-screen gameplay, so forget about inviting your friends over for a tango-killing fest.

The gameplay itself deserves a 2 out of 5. The entire selling-point of the R6 series is gone, and what's left is a run-and-gun mess unlike the other games in the Tom Clancy series.
But, with the inclusion of awesome graphics, sound, voice-recognition technology, and excellent Xbox Live gameplay (but no split-screen for Live-deprived people), it deserves a 4 out of 5. But beware, if none of the above-mentioned things in the previous sentence appeal to you, then I suggest you stick with Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield for the PC. It is more expansive, and includes the heart of the Tom Clancy series itself : tactical strategic gameplay.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Rogue Spear Review

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Rogue Spear
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had Rogue Spear for about 2 months now. And the best word you can use to describe it is REALISTIC. If you have ever played RAINBOW SIX (the game Rogue Spear continues from), you already have an idea of how awesomeit is. But Rogue Spear is not what RAINBOW SIX was... it is much better. You are a counter terrorism team assigned to rescue hostages andsuccessfully complete objectives in full-detail 3-D worlds. And theterrorists are not stupid. They will act to your every move, they will hideto ambush you, duck your shots, shout things at you, and take cover whenthey need to reload their guns. You can play missions during the day, night, or even with weather effects such as snow, fog, and rain! All ofthese things add to how realistic the game is. You can play over theinternet in multiplayer mode with up to 16 people playing at a time! Withso many weapons to choose from (frag grenades, smoke grenades, heart beatsensors, flashbangs, and more) you will be playing multiplayer over andover again. Multiplayer mode is so realistic, that when you hear a gunbeing fired, you can tell what gun it is. When you see a gun in someoneshand, you can tell what gun it is. Frag grenades make more noise than everin this unbelievable game! You can talk to people on your team inmultiplayer mode using the BOUND KEYS that can be specified in your"OPTIONS" section of Rogue Spear. Order your team-mates to getdown, take cover, cover your back, use a frag grenade, retreat, and muchmuch more. No first person shooter even compares to Rogue Spear. Not evenGoldeneye 007 (popular game for Nintendo 64). Rogue Spear is so real andaddictive, like Red Storm Entertainment states on the back of the box, youwill be shouting "tango down!" in your sleep for weeks! Don'twait... buy this game!

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction Review

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's finally here, a new Splinter Cell, or is it?This new game has some of the same names and faces, and even design choices of previous games, but seems to not fit the old style as much as it used to, but that's okay in many ways. While this new Splinter Cell is not quite like others, it's still good.As for the game itself, it is amazing, the gameplay is rich and fun, story interesting yet not overdone.

Needless to say, while the game by itself is amazing, it doesn't feel exactly like Splinter Cell, but in many ways that's okay, while this game could have been a remake of the Bourne game, it still plays well and is fun, and if you ever like stealth action at all, this is a must pick up for anyone.

Mat Hoffman Pro BMX 2 Review

Mat Hoffman Pro BMX 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While not nearly as well known as Tony Hawk, Mat Hoffman brings his own unique excitement to the world of extreme sports. The same holds true for the star's video games as well; far fewer people have played Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX than Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, but that isn't to say the game isn't solid in its own right. In fact, it's pretty damn good. And like the THPS series, MHPBMX 2 offers an incremental upgrade in gameplay and the obligatory boost in visuals to make the series better than ever. Mat Hoffman, the game and the athlete, will never escape the shadow of Tony Hawk, but that doesn't mean he should be ignored. Read on and find out why.
Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2's career mode is experienced via a Road Trip (no, not like the one with Tom Green). Imagine a charter bus where you go from city to city showing off your dance moves ... or in this case, your biking skills. There are ten riders in Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2, six of which return from the original cast. New to the roster are Seth Kimbrough, Cory Kastazio, Nate Wessel, Ruben Alcantara, and Day Smith. Each rider is nicely detailed and comes with a fully customizable ride. You will travel across America, hitting Las Vegas, New Orleans, Boston, Chicago, and more. Each city level not only has its own distinct look and feel, but also specific goals you have to complete. To give the Road Trip mode a little more flavor, players are treated to various behind-the-scenes videos from the Mat Hoffman Pro BMX 2 tour. You will see videos specific to the rider you selected.
Other playing modes include Session (which gives you three different time limits to do tricks) and Freeride. The latter is a great way for beginners to learn and master combos and manuals. More robust this time around is the multiplayer mode, which has over six different multiplayer games including the requisite Horse and Split-Screen, and cool additions like Half-Pipe Hell and Tag.
New to the series is the inclusion of flatland tricks, which are executed from manual positions. These closely resemble tricks like handstands in Tony Hawk. Flatland tricks are not only cool to look at, but also earn you a lot of trick points. The key to a successful flatland trick is balance. I was only able to perform a handful of flatland tricks including a backwards steamroller, boomerang, dump truck, and a front pogo.
For the most part, gameplay is pretty straightforward. Most of your time will be spent playing the Road Trip mode. Each of the eight cities has three tiers of objectives starting at Amateur moving to Semi-Pro then Professional. Each tier has four objectives making for 12 per city. As you complete goals, you earn road trip points. These points can be used to unlock more levels or cities. In addition, players can unlock new songs, clothes and bikes for their riders as well.
On paper, this is a tried and true formula that has been used by many games since the first Tony Hawk. Unfortunately this is where Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 loses some of its luster. I have no problems with the objective-based parts of the game. What I do have a problem with is the monotonous nature of them. There's too much of an emphasis on fetching items rather than performing tricks and getting rewarded for doing them well. The trick based objectives are fine in the game (some of them are a little too challenging) but for the most part, they work. What bores you to tears is the trivial riding around, scavenging for hidden objects, activating switches, and knocking over things.
On a more positive note, the level design is topnotch. Developer Rainbow Studios has managed to create challenging levels that look great. What's distinguishing about all the levels is how the various stunt areas flow together seamlessly. When a game lets you create lines of combinations this easily, it's extraordinary.
From a visual standpoint, the game looks a lot better on Xbox than on PS2. Granted the PS2 does look very good, the textures and shading on the Xbox just look better. Even the animations are smoother. The coolest aspect is without a doubt the crash animations. Remember how outrageous the crash animations were in ATV Offroad Fury or Motocross Madness? It's great to see Rainbow brought its expertise in that area to Mat Hoffman. Trust me, you'll wince and cringe after some of the wipeouts.
Can you can can? Surprisingly, the weakest aspect of Mat Hoffman Pro BMX 2 is the soundtrack. Where the original Mat Hoffman had cool bands like Outkast, Jurassic 5, and Bad Brains, Pro BMX 2's line up is rather dull. The good thing for Xbox owners is the ability to listen to music that you've put on your hard drive.
Even with its shortcomings, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2 is worth checking out. Granted the Road Trip mode can get kinda frustrating and boring, but experiencing the various levels and checking out the behind-the-scenes video footage is almost worth the aggravation. The new flatland tricks are a definite plus and the ability to use your own music rocks.
The Lowdown: Activision's secondary poster boy delivers with improved visuals and a plethora of new tricks. BMX fans once again have something to be excited about.
Pros: Great visuals; smooth animations; tight control; flatland tricks and user controlled music.
Cons: [bad] soundtrack; tedious challenges.
BIG DAN's OVERALL RATING: 7.4/10
Good game, but it's just not as appealing as skateboarding.

Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow Review

Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this game because I was relatively satisfied with the first rainbow six 3 game on XBOX.This one for the most part does not disappoint, however there are a few flaws that make this game not worthy of a 5 star rating.

Black Arrow plays almost exactly like the first RS3 on XBOX.Even the characters are the same guys, you are Ding Chavez and your teammates are Dieter Weber, Eddie Price and Louis Louiselle. All of the weapons are the same except there is no .50 caliber sniper riffle, it has been replaced with a sniper rifle that uses 7.62mm shells which still gets the job done, but just doesn't have the powerful sound as the .50 cal.The first thing you will notice different about this game are the levels. Each level has been beautifully done complete with better lighting, graphics and attention to detail.Just imagine playing the levels in Splinter Cell 2 as a FPS.The storyline while a bit better than the first seems to jump around a lot, still lacks depth. The enemies are much smarter and will constantly throw grenades at you, call for backup and even rush you when they know you are reloading. This makes the game challenging and fun however the fine line between challenging and frustrating is often crossed in this game.

One thing you will immediately notice is that RS6:BA still uses the painfully annoying limited save system which I wish they get rid of.If you are playing veteran difficulty you are only allotted 2 saves per mission (you were given 3 in the previous game). You will often have to complete 2 tasks before your first save to help spread your saves out. This results in restarting levels over and over and over and over and over and over again, and I am not exaggerating one bit.Be prepared to restart levels anywhere from 20 - 25 times before you are familiar with the layout and cheap enemies hiding in impossible places and literally coming out of nowhere. While terrorists are smarter they are also very cheesy, I have noticed that the CPU randomly places enemies in different spots when you are not looking.I have actually seen a terrorists drop out of the sky on a balcony to try to get a cheesy kill on you.I have also noticed that if you have your team with you more terrorists will randomly appear than if you're by yourself.Levels are also filled with "trigger points" meaning that a room can be totally clear at one moment but if you cross a certain point, the room is filled with enemies magically appearing behind crates and coming out of doors and windows. The fun factor of this game is hurt greatly because of this. You spend entire missions creeping through trying to guess where the next enemy will randomly appear and trying to set off the trigger point and run for cover before you are shot up. Another thing I found very frustrating about this game is that certain terrorists never seem to die no matter how many times you shoot them, I have put at least 15 shells from an M16 into the back of a enemy and he still runs away like nothing hit him.On another occasion I have hit an enemy in the head two and three times and even saw blood splatter, but yet the enemy is still alive and fires back like nothing happened.I am sorry but even a grazed bullet to the head should a least stun you.As bad as all these things are, I think the most frustrating aspect of this game is the almost comical stupidity of your teammates. These guys are supposed to be the best however, they will die at a moments notice if you leave them alone for even a few seconds, you have to cover your own (...) and protect them because they are flat out idiots. You tell them to throw a grenade at a spot and instead of throwing the grenade from where they are standing, they will first run to the spot you tell them to throw the grenade, then throw it.Needless to say terrorists waiting around the corner usually kill them. You tell them to hold their position they wont stand where you tell them to, instead, these guys will just go to the nearest opening and give up the entire team's cover by firing at enemies. To make matters even worse, they will stand there and let the enemies pummel them with bullets. My 3 year old knows that if something is hurting him, he will most away from the source of the pain, however your dumb teammates will just complain "I'm hit!!" or "Taking fire!" while their life bar gets shorter and shorter. They will continue to stand there until the enemy is dead or he is dead. The latter usually is the outcome. Another thing that is funny is how three guys with automatic weapons have trouble even taking out one enemy.I have seen an enemy armed only with a pistol, wipe out my 3 teammates without taking one hit.The last words of my teammates as they fall to the ground are "Taking fire!!"As long as you don't depend on your teammates, you should be fine.I usually tell my team to hold while I go alone and clear out the area to make it "safe" for my team.Kind of defeats the purpose of a squad-based shooter, don't you think? To me it seems that your teammates are even dumber than they were in the previous RS.Combine the stupidity of your teammates with the fact that the voice recognition command system only works 80% of the time makes the teammate portion of this game the most frustrating.

I have already beaten the game on veteran after having it for only a week, but I probally won't go back and play it on Elite, because the only difference between the different difficulties is the number of saves you get per level.Recruit you get 3, veteran you get 2 and elite you get 1.Not worth playing again on elite because of the maddening frustration factor.

I haven't played multiplayer on this game and don't plan to anytime soon.XBOX live is becoming filled with immature stupid kids and cheaters who ruin the experience. This review is based on the single player alone. Though the missions are done a lot better this time around, the constant need to have to restart missions, cheap enemies and stupid teammates, outweigh the improvements which is why this game gets the same 4 star rating that I gave the first RS.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Island Thunder Review

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Island Thunder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're a fan of the Ghost Recon series of games, the Island Thunder set brings your platoon-based gaming to a hostile Cuba of the future.
There's the great graphics, where each of your friends and enemies look like real people, with proper movements and actions. Your environment is misty, rainy, soggy, with detailed trees and grass. You really feel like you're crawling up the road, watching for that enemy tower.
The sound is also quite good. None of the rock-thumping rambo music here - you listen carefully for where your enemies could be hiding, and watch for signs that an ambush is being laid.
Multiplayer is where this game shines best, though. An assortment of maps, campaign types and of course a wide variety of players means that the game will stay interesting long after you exhaust the built in missions. Downloadable new maps mean that the game can be fun pretty much forever!
A warning to arcade-style button mashers - this isn't a game like Doom where you just hop in and blast away. If you try that, you'll be slain quickly and pretty disappointed. You have to learn how to work with your troops, how to approach silently, how to work out a strategy to take advantage of your strengths. This is a game that involves a lot of patience and coordination. In this game it's not the person with the fastest fingers who wins - it's the person who pays the most attention to what is going on, and plans accordingly.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent Review

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay let me go on record as saying I LOVE this game so far (about 50% thru) from the stellar graphics to the non linear deep story. Is it the best in the series, THAT is a matter of opinion.I will say however that it IS MY favorite Splinter Cell (SC) to date. And I have played and loved them all, even found joy in the PSP version. But one thing particular makes this one my fave and that is the Story.I will not spoil anything but it is truly engrossing. Now let me follow my normal review format.

Graphics - 5 out of 5 Ubisoft really decided to show true 360 power. OMG!The graphics in this game rank up there with the greats...(FN3,COD3, Oblivion, etc.) may be the best I am still trying to compare. So many details in Sam's wetsuit, backgrounds, and enemies!!!Let me put it like this, you sneak up on your prey, grab him and hold him to interrogate watch his eyes flutter while he spills the beans and then watch his eyes roll to the back of his head when you choke him out. Nuff Said!!!

Sound - 4.5 out of 5 Michael Ironside does the voice acting for Sam, do I really need to go on?The sounds and background music is exactly what you come to expect from the SC series.Turn off everything in the room and turn up the volume you will get sucked in.

Controls - 4 out of 5 Here is my one and only CON, the camera doesn't always like the way you want control Sam, you end up having to toy with the right analog stick a little too much in some situations to see what you want to see.But as far as everything else it flows smoothly and controls pretty much like the others in the series!

Gameplay - 5 out of 5 Okay this is where the game absolutely TAKES off!!!There is just something about sneaking out of the shadows, grabbing and choking your enemies then hiding the bodies, gets me amped!!!But we have already done that right with others in the series right?Well imagine hanging and lowering yourself on a winch Mission Impossible style to obtain access to a certain objective or catch an enemy off guard.Or how about popping out of icy waters grabbing an unsuspecting enemy and dragging him underwater with you to choke him out (without fully getting out of the water).Let me tell you ladies and gentlemen this is STEALTH done absolutely right!!Then on top of the stellar gameplay mechanics. You have options on how to use those gameplay mechanics.Meaning you are a double agent, if you kill your enemies recklessly, leave innocent people to die you get closer to becoming that evil which you are trying to fight against. On the other hand if you choose to save the innocent and take your enemies out sparing their lives, then you uphold that which you have stood for all your years as an NSA agent.Simply put: THIS GAME ROCKS!!Story - 5 out of 5I am only about halfway thru this masterpiece and I will not spoil any of what I have experienced thus far I will however tell you that this is so far one of the best story I have experienced in a game.Ending not rated yet...I will now say that I am a big Splinter Cell fan anyway so this review may come off somewhat Bias.I tried to be as unbiased as possible, but I honestly can not imagine anyone NOT liking this game once they get the hang out the controls and fortunately there are 2 training missions (practice) to help accomplish this. Also let me say that I play my XBOX360 on a 32" Samsung HD TV so when I rate the graphics that is all I have to go by, so I cannot honestly tell anyone how good the graphics look on a regular TV.I cant imagine they would be that much worst though.

Bottom Line:This game is one of the few (so far) for which you purchased an Xbox360...and it is NOT to be missed Trust me!! Let the Holiday Games begin!!!

I am a big fan of FPS and this series in particular. I wasn't going to buy this one, but when Amazon marked the Limited Edition down to $29 and I had a $25 coupon credit (with 2 day free ship) I couldn't pass it up. The series is tight, and a top 5 FPS on any system. If you can't get a deal, I would wait as it is not much of an upgrade.

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Espionage Pack Review

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Espionage Pack
Average Reviews:

The Splinter Cell series of games is one of the finer ones around.

Playing it through for the very first time is absolutely mind-bending: the environments are intricate (with an attention to detail rarely seen in other games), and the gameplay is a rich, rewarding, if occasionally somewhat linear, experience. This is a series that gets under your skin, and you find yourself really thinking like Sam Fisher to negotiate the levels.

Those used to playing run-and-gun first person shooters might find themselves a bit out of their depth. The game is meant to be played in a methodic, logical, and stealthy way. It is possible to play all the games in the series with NO unnecessary kills (occasionally there are places where you must assassinate an enemy, but these are rare and well-defined). I've played the entire series twice, and each time it's a new, detailed experience because one can play the games in a different style each time.

I'm presently trying to "ghost" the game, whereby I attempt to play the game with no unnecessary kills, no unnecessary knockouts, and no getting detected. It's a challenge, but its fun.

If you enjoy games where speed and finger-twitchiness are not key aspects of playing or enjoying the game, and would much rather analyze and get involved with the game, this is the series for you.

The world balance is in your hands, as cyber-terrorism and international tensions are about to explode into WWIII. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow 2006: The U.S. installs a temporary military base on East Timor to train the developing defense force of the ""world's youngest democracy."" Resistance to the U.S. military presence in Southeast Asia is widespread and passionate, but the threat Indonesian militias pose to East Timorese democracy is deemed sufficient justification. At the same time, the U.S. doesn't mind having an excuse to install active military personnel within easy reach of both North Korea and the largest Muslim population in Asia. Anti-U.S. resentment comes to a head under the leadership of guerrilla militia leader Suhadi Sadono, acting with the unofficial support of major corrupt factions of the Indonesian government. Suhadi's men attack and occupy the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, taking dozens of civilian and military personnel hostage. You are Sam Fisher. You're sent in, not to rescue the hostages, but to destroy top-secret documentation held in the embassy before Suhadi's men access it.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Review

I think most people would agree the first game was the better of the two. That being said, I don't agree with many people saying the game is bad or not that great. This is a really good game. Someone below had said it was short..... They must be used to playing oblivion or something because this game was longer than the first. I was glad to be done with it by the time the end came around.

The graphics are really nice. They are like an updated version of the first game. There's a few bugs that drove me nuts such as an enemy shooting through a wall that's supposed to be cover. Glitch. This game features shooting through cover such as wood or plastic, but i'm speaking of actual walls. You can see their rifle sticking out of it. Another annoyance is the fact that you can die if someone shoots your hands alot. I understand that you can do that to your enemy, but still.
The game only crashed on me once. I closed to desktop, restarted the game and was fine. The new patch seemed to work fine for me.
As for the setting, I thought the levels were very nicely laid out. Yes the casinos in the first one were really cool and fun, but there's alot more to vegas than just that. The story was revolving around catching someone, not just fighting your way through things.

Gameplay is the same. There's a whole experience/level up scheme to this game that can be a little cheap with the weapons. There should've at least been the same weapons available as in the first game. You end up having to level up and use certain strategies to get the items you want. It's annoying, but I thought it was cool leveling up. In this game you tend to get hurt alot more than the first one on normal difficulty. Even with the heaviest gear on I found I was dying alot more.
There's even a level where you're by yourself! It's neat because you can be more stealthy. Most of the time in both games you'll pass an invisible tripwire on the map and enemies start pouring from everywhere despite how quiet you were being. In this level, you can avoid alot of fighting simply by sneaking around and pulling out your trusty silenced pistol.
The end fight is about as obnoxious as the first game except if you die, you have to go through a cutscene over and over and over.

The story is good. I liked it. The main twist isn't much of a shocker, but hey, it's tom clancy. I was disappointed in some of the new voices for the same characters though. Logan's voice is different which just threw me off because whoever did his voice in the first game was fantastic and unique. This time it's just some american without an accent. I'm pretty sure Mike's (the heavy gunner on your team) voice is different too. Jung and Gabe is still the same.

All in all I liked the game. It dragged on a little towards the end, but I enjoyed it almost all the time. I'm glad I waited for the price to drop. Amazon is selling now for 20 bucks which is definitely a good buy in my opinion.Pick this one up. It's worth the play.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 Review

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a soldier who returned from Iraq about a year and a half ago and ever since I've been looking for a good TACTICAL shooter to play for the PC.I've had many people tell me that counter strike is about as tactical as it gets. What the heck where they thinking?Counter strike has snipers moving right to left to avoid being shot and suffering no penalty for their movements. You'll see guys running around "bunny hopping" accurately throwing rounds down range its just crazy. In GRAW2 that junk is non-existent.

TACTICAL ASPECT
Graw2 uses a lot of excellent tactical features that I know a lot soldiers, police officers or just gun enthusiasts would like to see in a game. After playing Counter strike I can appreciate things like being able to lay prone in a grassy area and pick people off.You can crouch and even run while in a crouched position!Which is great for doing (MOUT) Military Operations in Urban Terrain or even bounding to assault an enemy position. This game also lets you utilize cover to its fullest advantage. You can peek right or left to take out enemies while not compromising your cover or concealment, whichever you may have. One of the more controversial aspects of this game is the fact that they're is no jumping what so ever.I personally like this features because it keeps players from utilizing the "bunny hopping" strategy.Nothing frustrates me more than being gunned down by a guy with an M4 Carbine thats jumping all over the place.Try that in real life and see how accurate you are :PBut I will admit it can be annoying not being able to jump over some of the minor obstacles in the game. What's also awesome is once you take fire with a click of button you can hit the ground and immediately start moving left or right to pop up in a new location and steal the element of surprise from your would be ambusher. This only works on the Multiplayer though, theres no fooling NPC's :P.I've also used a lot of the scopes in the game such as the EOTech and ACOG and I can honestly say they're replication is spot on.While looking through the optics, everything looked exactly like it did in Real Life.I also like the added touch of when you run, you put your weapon away. They're is no running and shooting in this game.Which to me makes sense. Some would argue that running and shooting is great for laying down suppressive fire, but who's gonna keep they're head down when the rounds are landing no where near you.Nice touch GRIN.

GAMEPLAY
This game has been criticized for being to slow, and rightly so.It is a slow game and if your into the run and gun genre like unreal and counter strike it may not be for you.I do enjoy run and gun here and there but this was a nice change to have something a little more realistic. But those who like to form strategy's and be more methodical and calculating will truly appreciate this game. The graphics are pretty good but they are nothing to brag about.I've only played the game on Medium graphics because a glitch in the game will not let you upscale to high settings. But they are aware of this and working on a patch as we speak. The single player game is pretty interesting and difficult. You control a ghost recon team thats fighting a war against Mexican rebels invading American.Your first mission places you in Juarez attacking a militant camp, your mission is to neutralize the rebels and destroy their weapons cache.Too appease the more skilled players you can complete missions with various awards such as "marksman, man of steel" to name a few and they're are four total and they are difficult to accomplish.

MULTIPLAYER
Multiplayer is where the money is at.They have all your typical multiplayer matches such as death match, team death match, hamburger hill, king of the hill, tug of war, complete objective, Siege, and Recon vrs Assault. This makes for a whole lot of multiplayer player content. The recon vrs assault is the most intuitive of them all.The ghosts have the difficult mission of destroying the Rebel Anti-Air vehicles they're are 4 total. The opposing side playing the rebels has an easy mission: Kill the ghosts. The catch is that once a ghost dies he's dead until an Anti-Air vehicle is destroyed than all ghosts re spawn again. The Mexican rebels re spawn during the whole game.Up the ghost sleeves is high tech gadgetry and the ability to "tag" Mexican rebels. This enables all ghosts on your team to see the rebel on the mini map and effectively move to neutralize them.On the Rebels side is the "scrambler" who can de-tag fellow rebels. It's a difficult game of cat and mouse that will challenge both sides and ultimately the side with the best team work will win the day.Always remember when moving as a team in whole or even a squad, all it takes to wipe everyone out is a well placed M203 grenade and you can say goodbye.Another touch that may bother people is the game comes with the team speak server client.Yes, that means you'll be connecting to team speak if you want to talk to others on your team. When I installed the game it told me team speak was a 2 week trial which upon ending it sounded like I'd have to pay if I wanted to continue to talk to team members over team speak.I personally like this once again because after playing Counter Strike for a while, I've seldom ever heard anyone use the mic to coordinate attacks or talk strategy.Yes I'm sure some clans will do it, but I'm talking about just joining up to your standard public server. Most of the time Counter Strike microphone chat turns into a public insult fest with everyone trash talking and making fun of lesser players to feel more important, because they themselves don't amount to much in real life.I can appreciate not having to listen to dumb people hurl insults while yelling and completely ruining the game for me.Especially when in counter strike and GRAW2 being able to hear your opponents approaching is key to survival. It's not that big of a setback, my friends and I use Xfire to chat and I imagine clans and friends will find alternate forms of communication as well. The biggest problem with the multiplayer so far is the community isn't very large yet.Don't get me wrong I've NEVER had a problem finding a game but they're are a lot of empty servers on the list.Hopefully that will change in the following months.

SYNOPSIS
This is a great tactical shooter for the reasons stated above and I give it 5 stars. Some say BF 2142 is similar in the sense that you can lay in the prone and do other things. But that game is so unstable that you might as well be gambling on your entertainment for the evening, will the game crash or will you have several solid hours of gaming?who knows. But its not as tactical as GRAW2.Once again it is a slower paced shooter and for some I think they'll find its just not their cup of tea.I recommend downloading the demo at www.ghostrecon.com its only a single player demo that will have you playing the first mission described above.More importantly however, is if your interested, it will give you a chance to try it out and see if you like the game play and controls.Like I said its not everyones cup of tea :)thanks for your time!See you in game maybe! :P

Tom Clancy's HAWX Review

Tom Clancy's HAWX
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First and foremost, Tom Clancy's HAWX is an "Air combat game" (at least that's what it calls itself) so if you are looking for a flight sim, this isn't it. That being said, my review is based upon the game itself, not the virtues/vices of it being a sim or "arcady"

Graphics: This game looks phenomenal. I have a 56" 1080P LCD and my jaw is constantly dropping. You will be flying over a variety of terrains and locations. Different times of day will skew color palettes, weather can affect visibility with clouds, and targets can be obscured by smoke. The terrain is incredibly detailed and looks wonderful even at close range...after you have unwittingly crashed your jet into it. Aircraft and missile contrails have that "puffy" look to them and flying into the sun is a great way to blind yourself.

Flight Mechanics: As I mentioned above, this is not a combat simulator. Hard banks and climbs do not kill speed. Depending on your difficulty setting your aircraft will take a number of direct missile hits. While this does take away from the realism factor (something Clancy games have been known for) it does make for a fun game. Even rookie pilots will quickly be flying low level and diving into "bandit" infested dog-fights. After several "training" missions which are used to introduce the player to the different aspects of the game (defend, escort, bombing, weapon types, etc) the game introduces the "Limit OFF" system (or OFF) in which the game is played from a zoomed out third person perspective. This mode allows players to "slide" their aircraft around, effectively making them much more agile (makes dodging missiles easier too). Opinions abound on this mode, but I found it a fun break from typical game play although lining up on a specific target can be more difficult. I recommend using OFF mode for evading missiles and getting your nose around on your adversary and then going quickly back to regular view mode.

Gameplay: This game uses a level scheme to unlock new aircraft and weapons load outs. Ever kill and achieving certain feats gives the player experience. Luckily the levels come fast and new aircraft abound. The aircraft themselves are beautifully rendered. Again since this is not a sim, most craft can (and do) hold several hundred missiles. This is a good thing since HAWX is a target rich environment and the player will be constantly tasked with prioritizing which targets to take down and in what order.
Since no one flys alone, the player has two wingmen who love to clutter the radio with chatter. They typically are talking about the plot and the mission, but will occasionally during a dog fight announce things an aware player had already seen a few minutes earlier. Not to say that the wingmen are useless, they just talk a lot. These wingmen can be given simple attack my target or defend me commands. My only real issue is that they seem to move at mach 10 whenever they feel like it and perform bizarre maneuvers to get back on you wing. While they will take down opponents if left to their own devices, it is best to take on important objectives yourself and let them cover your tail.

Each aircraft has individual stats and "bonuses" (if you will) some are good at engaging ground targets, others are limited in their weapons payload, each aircraft has a unique feel and a few moments of thought before selecting an aircraft for a mission will pay dividends. Trying to fly an escort mission in an AV-8 makes a mission a challenge, where a Mig-29 makes it much simpler.

The game give the player plenty of options to chose from, whether in aircraft, load outs, or how to approach a mission. The visuals are fantastic, and the fast paced gameplay will keep you glued to the screen. While OFF mode and the wingmen could have used a bit of tweaking I still feel this is an excellent game. But hey, that's my two cents. See you in the skies!

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas Review

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Combine the popular "Dynasty Mode" and customization options of sports games with the great take-cover functions of Gears of War, and the weaponry and tactical realism of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, and you have Rainbow Six: Vegas, probably the most complete shooter to date.
Let me jump to the custom character section right off: this is SICK. Using your Xbox Vision Camera, you can create an uncanny shaved head version of yourself to use in the game, and online. You can then customize your weapons, rated on accuracy, range, and damage, as well as your shoulder, chest, arm and leg armor, which force you to choose between mobility and protection. You can shoose to have a super-zooming rifle scope on your pistol or rifle, or a laser sight, or more. All prettied and ready to go?
Playing any number of games, either in single player or online or multi-player will earn you experience points and medals. The more points you receive, the higher your rank (you start off as a Private Second Class), allowing you access to even more customizable items.
To the gameplay: intuitive and useful, RS: Vegas doesn't throw in any useless controls. You can single click to put a silencer on your weapon, switch to night or thermal vision, or invert yourself upside down on a rapelling rope. You can look inside rooms with a snake cam before you enter, fire blindly around a corner, or detonate explosives from a distance.
The AI is superb; you can run the same mission three times in a row and never have the "enemies" in the same areas, or in the same amounts. If you faced four guys in the opening building the first time around, you might face two guys, with the other two sneaking around to flank you on your second try.
Adopting the Gears of War health system, where you take non-permanent damage that instead impairs your condition and requires taking cover to heal, works wonders for this game...you can't just bum rush enemies guns ablaze, because they're bound to cap you with a headshot.
It's a great game for the more patient sort, and might take some adjusting by those recently spoiled on Halo 2 or Gears of War, in terms of aggressive play. My only complaint (as one spoiled by the latter) is the lack of a run button to cover open ground, but hey, it forces me to take better cover.
Highly recommended, especially for the online co-op option.
