Logitech Xbox 360 Vantage USB Microphone Review

I am not a singer but this is fun to use with Rock Band.I bought the game without the instruments and use my GH III wireless Les Paul.

This is a corded microphone. The fifteen foot length is plenty for most situations. It can plug directly in your console if you have a free slot or into a USB hub.

If you prefer black you can get the same Logitech Vantage model that's marked for the PS3 and PS2.That's what I did and it works fine with the 360.

The microphone also works on Windows Vista.Just plug it in and the driver will be installed automatically.

Creative Labs EF0210 Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset with Sound Blaster X-Fi Technology (Black) Review

Creative Labs EF0210 Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset with Sound Blaster X-Fi Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying I am a hardcore mmo player. Anyone else who plays mmo's know that large guilds communicate through voice chat programs like Ventrillo (and similar). I myself use mostly ventrillo these days anymore. The testing that I did with this device was largely with guild mates of mine telling me how it sounds and how it performed from their end hearing me.

Right after I installed the software I tested these out on ventrillo. With literally zero tweaking time.. they sounded perfect. My voice was very loud and extremely clear. The music sounded great in the headphones. What more could I ask for.. they were trouble free! The best part was the microphone didn't need to be shoved against my lips for people to hear me speak. I have bought wired usb headsets in the past that required the mic to be so close it was annoying to use. This you can keep the mic 2-3 inches away from your mouth and it still sounds loud and clear (great little mic on this headset)

My only annoyance with these headphones is the tight headband. I have been told before I have a big head, but I thought they were being sarcastic! I am joking of course but they do fit snug and almost hurt a bit after a little while of use (*laughing* and I am pretty sure I have a normal size head!). Perhaps over time these headphones will loosen up and get more comfortable. I did of course try to outwardly flex the headband to loosen it but its all plastic so it didn't really work like it would have if it was metal. I still gave this product a 5 star rating, but I would knock off a 1/2 star for this tightness if I could.

The little microphone plugs in and out of the headphones in case you want to use these as pure headphones. I also assume if the mic boom ever fails over time you could more easily replace it being that its designed like this (I have had wires fail inside of headphone mic booms from years of over bending, so this is handy to be able to replace it so easily).

Lastly, these are "on ear" headphones .. not "around ear" headphones. So you will feel them sitting on top of your ear not go wide around the outside of your ears. The internet is hard to judge the sizes of products for things like this so I just wanted to let people know what to expect. The felt pad on headphones ear muffs are very soft and well cushioned so this shouldn't be a problem of comfort with most users.

Overall I am very pleased with this product. When I want to use a great working/great sounding plug and play headset I am now grabbing this for some long gaming sessions.

Steel Series SteelSound 5H V2 Headset ( 20065 ) Review

Steel Series SteelSound 5H V2 Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Now, to start off I got this item when it was 60% off which was a major selling point for me. I was a little apprehensive. I was torn between the icemats or this. I'm really glad I got this however.

The thing I like most about it is it's amazing sound quality. I am often tricked while gaming into thinking the sounds I hear from the headphones are actually coming from my room. The headset is unbelievably comfortable. Often times I wear it for hours at a time and forget I even have them on. The microphone is another main reason I bought this item. I play with a group of friends when gaming and we all like to talk to each other through vent. There is nothing more annoying than a distorted voice or noise. I'm always being commented on how clear I sound. The ability to take it apart into 3 pieces seems to have payed off while traveling. It ensures me that they won't snap in half or anything like that. The ability to hide the microphone is great as well. I don't like detached microphones so i wanted a headset with one built in and when I'm not using it to talk to anybody I can just hide it and it's virtually invisible.

My least favorite thing about this headset is that everyone around me can hear what I'm listening to. This only tends to happen when I'm blasting noise into my head though. It's not that big of a deal however because I don't turn it up that loud often anyway. In case you were wondering it doesn't create an echo through the microphone.

Overall I give this thing a 5/5 with only one flaw that I have noticed. Great quality sound, very comfortable, and a great quality microphone. If you're wondering if you should buy these I would definitely recommend it.

Seaman with Microphone Review

Seaman with Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Seaman is not a game. It is difficult to define just what type of program it is, but it is not a game. It is akin to a system simulation, but it alsoincorporates some advanced Artificial Intelligence as well as voicerecognition.
The result is something like a virtual pet, one that isquite smart and entertaining. But it will take quite a bit of patience onthe part of the user to enjoy Seaman to it's fullest. The simulationproceeds at a pace that is determined by the Seaman program, not by theuser. And many users will get quite frustrated with this aspect ofSeaman.
This program is experimental in several ways. Firstly, it iseducational as a biological system simulation. However, part of thesimulation is over simplified, and is based on a series of experiments by afictional scientist in the 1930s. This story is explained in detail by theprogram narrator (Leonard Nimoy) and the manual. There is even an extensivewebsite dedicated to the background story. Still, it can teach the basicsof semi-closed and managed ecosystems.
It is also experimental in thatthe AI can be very entertaining and surprising, as long as the user has thepatience to care for the Seaman in the beginning when things can get quiteboring. This part of the Seaman program will really get inside of manypeople's heads, like it did mine. You will find yourself thinking of Seamanoften even when you are not actually playing the simulation.
And, Seamanis also experimental in that the entire concept is new and different fromanything that has ever appeared on a game console before. The very idea isunexplored territory for the video game market, and could possibly ignitean entire line of AI/Voice Recognition based 'games'. Seaman is wildlypopular in Japan, where it has been available for a year or so. Given thetype of program that Seaman is, it needs to be stated that the conversionof Seaman from Japanese to English must have been a monumental effort.
You rear and care for your Seaman via the Dreamcast controller, and youcommunicate with him via the included microphone, which plugs into thesecond VMU socket on the controller. In addition, you will need a dedicatedVMU for Seaman. It needs to be stated that the less expensive third partyVMUs are not satisfactory for use with Seaman. This is because essentialfeedback is conveyed to the user via the LCD display on the Sega VMU, andnot on the TV screen. Also, the manual alludes to the future need foradditional VMUs as the Seaman 'evolves'. Two Sega Dreamcast VMUs can beattached to each other, allowing for data exchange, and this may benecessary for Seaman's continued growth.
Seaman does not lend itself tohours of extended gameplay. The Seaman will let you know when your sessionsare over, and the sessions can be quite short. I tend to my Seaman (hisname is Shadrach) twice a day, once in the morning for about fifteenminutes or so and once in the evening. The evening sessions have lasted aslong as an hour or more. Seaman has to be fed regularly and hisenvironmental needs have to be attended to or he will die, and you willhave to start the simulation over from the beginning.
Seaman learns fromyour interaction with him. The more you talk with him, the more he picks upon various aspects of your life. Seaman can be quite talkative at times. And he can be very rude and surly. You may want to think twice beforebringing your Seaman up when company is around. Seaman regulary asks fairlypersonal questions, and will surprise you with his insights regarding yourlife (as you've described it to him) and remembers what you tell him quitewell. Seaman also defecates and passes gas often, and is quite proud of hisefforts, voicing the impending self-relief to everyone within earshot. Sobe advised.
With multiple VMUs, it is possible to have more than onesimulation, so a Seaman provided with bogus personal information for one ofthem would be a real hit at a social gathering. The Seaman voicerecognition is not capable of discerning individual voices, and he willhappily converse with anyone who talks to him.
At first, I thought thevoice recognition software was seriously flawed. But the Seaman, in hisearlier stages, simply has not learned enough to comprehend much of whatyou say to him and cannot respond. Seaman comes with a limited amount ofpre-defined reactions. As time passes, each Seaman develops his own uniquepersonality, and his language and comprehension skills conform to you, yourway of thinking, and your use of grammar. And he will ignore you less andless over time.
Seaman is not for everyone. But if you are anexperimental, patient type of individual and willing to trod new andunexplored territory, then Seaman may be for you. Be prepared, however, forhe really does get inside your head.

Because this is a behind the head model, it rests on your ears -- similar to a pair of glasses. If you already wear glasses (like I do) you will most likely find it uncomfortable. The headset does have exceptional voice pickup and sound quality (for gaming) however. It is just a bit uncomfortable with glasses.

Logitech Wireless Microphone Review

Logitech Wireless Microphone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been waiting for this microphone patiently since it was first announced by Logitech ever so long ago. While the $80 price tag seemed a bit steep, the desire of having a completely wireless RockBand set and $40 in Amazon.com gift cards I earned doing internet surveys made the cost a little more reasonable.

I decided to use Amazon's trade-in service to take care of the remaining $40, and free shipping ultimately made it free, other than the time I used to do the surveys and 5 games that I could care less about. The trade-in service is pretty hassle-free. You select the games that you want to trade, print out the invoice and the paid postage-slip, pack it up, and send it off to process. I took care of all that on Thursday (June 11). They were received, processed, and my account was credited on the following Monday (June 15). I purchased through a Marketplace seller, which saved a little more cash at the cost of a slightly longer time to ship it. The total (with shipping) came to $71.94.

Now on to business... The microphone itself is significantly larger than the normal RockBand microphone. It's closer in length to the SingStar microphone, with a windscreen that is about 1.5 inches in diameter. Despite the increased size, its weight is not that much more than the RockBand mic, and it feels well-balanced once the batteries are in. The remainder of the mic is about the same width as the RockBand mic, so it easily fits into the same clip on my mic stand. The box also includes a wrist strap (mine had 2 actually), which attaches at the bottom near the antenna and should be helpful for preventing accidental drops.

The receiver also acts as a miniature stand for storing purposes, and it comes with a fairly long cord. Excess cord can be wrapped around the bottom of the stand, which helps counterbalance the mic when it is set on it. I had hoped that it would also be used to charge internal batteries within the mic as well, unfortunately it runs off of two standard AA batteries instead. The booklet claims a battery life of up to 20 hours, so battery changes should not be too frequent at least. I installed some of those fancy Energizer Advanced batteries (the ones which used to carry DLC codes), so it'll probably last even longer.

On my first trial of the mic, I simply fired up RockBand and synced the mic and chose a song. The mic appears to amplify to a higher volume than the standard mic, and its sensitivity was dead-on with the same settings that I'd been using for the RB mic. It had no trouble picking up my voice at all, and I could do percussion sections with a mere tap of the windscreen.

Next, I tried a range test. The booklet claims that it works up to 30 feet, and unfortunately my condo is not large enough for me to get that far away. It could easily pick me up in my tiny backyard, which is at most 25 feet from the PS3. I then tried going upstairs while singing, and got to the furthest point away in the house. It had no trouble picking me up through the floor and two walls (door open).

All in all, this is a very fine wireless microphone that requires no modding of any kind. Its price tag is admittedly a bit steep, but I suppose they can get away with that since it is the first quality USB wireless microphone that I know of available in the US. It claims to be compatible with the PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360, and may be used on RB, GH:WT, GH:M, Boogie, Karaoke Revolution, or the Sing It! games. I'd recommend it if anyone wants their RockBand 2 setup to be fully wireless.

Edimensional Audiofx Gaming Headset Review

Edimensional Audiofx Gaming Headset
Average Reviews:

This headset is an absolute must for any hardcore gamer, especially if you play any of your games online.I have found these headphones to be superior not just to all of the cheap lightweight headsets on the market, but to other pure headphones that I have tried as well. The sound quality is excellent, so much that I can hear little details with these headphones that I can't hear otherwise. The vibration feature is everything that it is advertised to be and more. It's one of those things that I don't want to live without now when I play my games. It can be overpowering if you turn it up too high, but if you fine tune it, it adds a subtle layer of intensity to any first person shooter or any game with lots of explosions or heavy sounds. The microphone is too short, but I haven't had any problems with it.It's a little bit like using a cell phone.

My only problem with these headphones is that the durability isn't what I would have hoped for.I am on my third set in about three years, but I would never buy anything else.I have never come close to finding anything else that augments my gaming experience like these headphones, and if you are still in doubt, I highly recommend them.

Razer Carcharias Gaming Headset (Black) Review

Razer Carcharias Gaming Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must admit I was a bit put off by the price of this gaming headset and the lack of features.Other PC headsets such as the Logitech G35 and Senn's PC350 were priced more but came with more features and of course, a bigger brand name. But when it comes down to gaming and listening to music, you aren't really asking for a lot.The Razer Carcharias delivers what one would need to enjoy listening to music, and of course, long comfortable gaming sessions.

Out of the box, the Carcharias seems pretty normal, perhaps even a bit cheaply made.Padding is placed in appropriate places, including the headband and loudspeakers. The padding is exceptionally soft, especially around the loudspeakers where the material is felt-like.The thin plastic that covers part of the headphones may seem flimsy, but is very light.A nice mesh around the headphones is also present, and also takes away a bit of weight.A nice part of the construction is the wire that connects the speakers to the headband. It is not only quite sturdy, but also gives some range of motion without compromising that integrity.Speaking of wires, the cable for the headset itself is very lengthy (nine feet) and is braided in fiber. The mic is sturdy itself and can be turned 270 degrees. It is also bendable at the midsection to some degree.

No sense praising the construction if it isn't even comfortable, and this is the part where the Carcharias excels at.Placing these headphones on for the first time felt amazing, as if it was conforming to the shape of my head.Of course, I felt this way about many headphones at first, so naturally I decided to start up a few games (which easily lasted several hours), after which I listened to a few hours of music while studying. There was absolutely no discomfort at all after all that time. The lightweight construction and circumaural design is a real blessing to the ears. The headphones themselves are also very easy to adjust.

The audio quality for these headphones is quite exceptional, enough to justify wearing these headphones for hours. As probably mentioned, audiophiles may want to look elsewhere, but for the casual listener, the quality is more than good enough.Although the bass is quite deep ("boomy"), it does not overwhelm the treble. The highs for this headphones can be quite distinct (ie loud), and since the volume can go quite high on this thing, may be overwhelming sometimes.Much of this is perfectly suited to games, especially first-person shooters.Keep in mind that this headset does not provide surround sound, and never was intended to.You can take a look at the aforementioned models for that.

The noise-filtering mic for this headset works well.I tested it with Ventrilo, Skype, and Left 4 Dead, and others could hear me very well, with a noticeable lack of background noise from my side.I should note that I had the mic at its default positioning (no additional bending). It can be adjusted to be a bit closer or further.

Overall, the Razer Carcharias does its job as a gaming headset very well.I consider it Razer's best headset in terms of price vs performance; a step above the Mako, and better than the Barracuda and Megalodon.I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys long gaming sessions and listening to music. The comfort along with its exceptional audio quality and mic justifies the pricing; just don't expect any extra features.

Side note: I also think the name for this headset is awesome. As someone who's interested in cartilaginous fishes, I don't think they could have picked a better name.

Disney Sing It: Pop Hits Review

Disney Sing It: Pop Hits
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Disney Sing It: Pop Hits BundleThis is a totally wonderful concept... but just falls short of the 5-star mark.First, I want to say that I LOVE that the background of the game has the actual videos for the songs... not some goofy cartoon characters "mouthing" the words, etc. However, as many reviewers have already pointed out, these are not the most "popular" songs produced by these artists, which makes it harder to sing along with them. The songs are NOT easy to sing, especially if you don't know the words/tunes beforehand. Also, we already own Boogie Superstar, which we LOVE... so thought this would be fun too, as in this game you can sing with two microphones as a duet/helping each other. However, the microphone that comes with THIS bundle is not very good... doesn't work as well as the Boogie Superstar microphone at all.Half the time, this Disney mic doesn't pick up your singing, so you end up "missing" the notes, meanwhile my daughter who is using the Superstar mic is getting great scores on the same song.Lastly, although the Superstar mic has a long cord on it that plugs into the Wii... the packaging on this Disney bundle led me to believe that the microphone here would be cordless... NOT SO!It also has a super long cord, which is just more tangle to deal with.:(

So between the sub-standard (and misleading picture above) microphone, and the more obscure song list included with this game, I can only rate it 3 stars instead of the 5 star potential it should have had.Again, I DO like the duet option and the music video backgrounds, but wish the interface with the people playing the game was a bit better thought-out/quality.

Sennheiser PC 350 Collapsible Gaming Headset with Vol Control & Microphone Mute Review

Sennheiser PC 350 Collapsible Gaming Headset with Vol Control & Microphone Mute
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned a few headsets in the past 10 years, including Logitech, Altec Lansing, Sony (without a microphone) and a lower model Sennheiser about 5 years ago.I am an avid computer gamer and often go late into the night at stretches of 8 hours at a time or more. And this is the best headset I've ever used in almost everyway.

First impressions on removing it from the packaging (which I had no trouble with, following the directions on the box) were of durability and a solid build. It's well put together, nothing seems flimsy or cheap, but its also surprisingly lightweight. The wire is quite heavy duty, unlike the Altec Lansing and Logitech headsets I previously owned. Not to mention robust strain relief where the wire connects to the headset, the control pod, and the jacks.

The control pod is perfectly positioned and lightweight, so even if it's dangling you don't even feel it, unlike the bulky control pods on some other headsets. In terms of fit, the ears swivel almost 45 degrees in each direction, and extend from the head-bar with solid clicking intervals. The headbar and ears are both covered in comfortable velor padding which unlike faux-leather on my previous altec lansings, don't cause your skin to sweat and stick to it.The earpieces swivel slightly in and out, and if you push firmly on them they will collapse inward with a snap - don't be afraid, it just prevents them from collapsing on accident, which I was concerned about when I saw them folded inward in the pictures.

They collapse solidly but will not do so by themselves. The microphone is adjustable, but not overly so - you have to bend it firmly to adjust the position and it won't bounce back on its own.It descends down from its perch vertically along the headset with a moderate degree of resistance, so it won't flop up or down on its own.And if you want to move it halfway up and leave it there, it won't flop back down, unlike my old headset, which either had to be all the way up or down.Hopefully it stays this way.

In terms of comfort, its extraordinary. Many headsets I've owned claimed to be circumaural, meaning they surround you ears and don't sit on them or in them. But most either never intended to actually follow through on that promise or they are made for people with ears the size of quarters.Even my old Sennheisers sat right on my ears, and my Altec Lansings, while a very nice headset, had padding large enough to go around my ears, but the speakers inside the earphones themselves pressed up against my ears, which became extremely uncomfortable after periods of time.

These earphones are ACTUALLY circumaural. The padding surrounds your ears but never touches them. The only pressure is on your actual head; your ears are never in contact with anything. The velor is soft and the pressure is almost unnoticeable. At first they seemed a bit tight but a little adjustment of the head-bar and a couple hours and they seem to break in a bit. the velor padding on the head-bar rests gently on the top of your head and the whole thing seems to distribute the weight of the headset evenly so you barely feel it.

Now for sound - Everyone knows Sennheiser is one of the premier names in sound quality, and these are no disappointment. Now these are probably not the headset you want if you're just listening to music in a studio or something - but for a combination of a microphone and comfort and audio quality, I doubt there's any better at this price.I began by watching a DVD of Band of Brothers on my computer. At first I thought something was wrong! It sounded like there was some kind of noise coming from somewhere else besides the DVD, when I realized I was hearing things I've never even before heard on my speaker system!

Every sound, especially the mid's and high's are exceptionally clear and sharp. And for a headset that is not a 5.1 headset, the directionality of the sound is amazing. Some here have complained that the base is not heavy enough, but honestly, if you want to have more base than this, you're not looking for audio quality and accuracy, you're just looking for ridiculous base. The base was excellent and sharp, not booming or echoing.Explosions sounded realistic and surprising, without any buzzing or crackling. For sound quality, these are better than my Klipsch Promedia speaker system, and that's saying something.

These also have a closed headset design, and I was initially worried about the sweaty-ear syndrome from this type of headset, but I was suprised and happy to find that after 4 hours, I didn't experience any overheating or sweating of my ears.Maybe in the summertime that would change, but if anything the headset just got more comfortable over that time.

The microphone quality, while it is hard for me to tell myself, I've been told it's excellent, although I had to turn my gain up a bit on my microphone, because apparently its a bit quieter because of the filter on it.

My only con with this set of headphones is the cord I think could be a bit longer, but that's not a big deal, for me anyways. Also, I think a carrying bag might be nice to go with these headphones.

Overall, if you're looking for a headset with superb audio quality, comfort, durability, longevity, and a high quality microphone, not to mention incredibly stylish looks and a classic and understated appearance, you CANNOT go wrong with these for the price.Forget the 5.1 channel headsets with bulky, powered control pods for surround sound and brightly colored headsets, get this one for a lifetime of quality and enjoyment.
