I was buying these for my sister who is in her thirties, when I read the latest review. I don't know what that person is talking about. I love this game and so does the rest of my family! The animals do make sounds, I love the zebra it's my fave!! The koalas scream or cry for their mothers. Anyway I had the first one, and it is completely boring compared to this, you can not even compare them. Night and Day! My daughter is 10 and loves this and I guess it's ageless because I am 40 and love it too! I think my daughter and I have about ten zoos each. AAA++++

Microsoft Zoo Tycoon 2: African Adventure Expansion Pack Review

Microsoft Zoo Tycoon 2: African Adventure Expansion Pack
Average Reviews:

Though I always enjoy Zoo Tycoon 2, African Adventure is often more expensive than its worth. Its Expansion Pack Companion, Endangered Species, is of much better value.
African Adventure adds these animals: Aardvark, African Buffalo, African Spurred Tortoise, Barbary Ape, Bong, Caracal, Ethiopian Wolf, Gelada, Gerenuk(very cute!), Mandrill, Masai Giraffe, Meerkat, Nile Moniter, Pygmy Hippo, Ratel,Secretary Bird, Striped Hyena, Warthog, White Rhino, and the Wildebeest.
There are a few other features, including 'new' themes, campaigns, challenges, and Maps.
Though I enjoyed this game, I would definitly recommend Endangered Species vs. African Adventure

I'm a huge fan of Zoo Tycoon & I've bought all the expansions.I absolutely couldn't wait for Marine Mania because that was my favorite in the original Zoo Tycoon. It was well worth the wait.Of course I'd like more scenarios but with the 9 additional that's what I've come to expect out of expansions. This expansion features has 20 marine animals (whales, dolphins, rays, sharks, otters & then some) + the ability to train & put on shows with some of the animals. The shows are pretty neat & it's fun to be able to swim with the animals. With the plants & rocks in the tank it looks pretty realistic.when you're in the tanks. If you are a fan of Zoo Tycoon 2 I'm sure you'd love this expansion pack.Buy it!!!

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Wild! Expansion Review

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Wild Expansion
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was a little skeptical of the Wild! Expansion pack at first, but after the price lowered, I finally found time to buy and play the newest addition to Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. The idea is to now integrate, instead of water rides, wild animals into parks. Peeps pay to walk on 'viewing galleries' to get a good look at your wildlife. Choices range from Polar Bears to Ostriches to Gorillas and much in between.

The parks now look noticeably different than before. Many of the objectives are unfamiliar, such as making a certain profit off an animal, or obtaining a certain number of an animal. Although this is all new, it flows well with the RCT3 game and feels very comfortable after just a few quick scenarios.

The scenarios feature a wide variety of theming and landscapes, including the two new styles of scenery, prehistoric, and safari. The new scenery items include giant dinosaurs, and swooping safari trees. Both are great additions to the animal enclosures. The gameplay seems much simpler on Wild! than the previous two RCT3 titles. Most of the levels are not very challenging, although they do (for the most part) take a few hours to complete (if not longer). I cannot say they aren't a lot of fun, though. Once the animals begin breeding, the galleries can become hugely profitable, and it goes uphill for the coaster enthusiast from there.

Finally, as with Soaked!, Wild! has improved the tunnel feature again (and thank goodness!). Tunneling roller coasters as well as footpaths is as easy as it was in the original games, if not easier. Roller coasters can be built into hills automatically, and underground footpaths are rarely challenging. This adds a lot of functionality to park design, and works great with the animal enclosures since paths can tunnel below them, popping up in the middle to host viewing galleries.

I am pleased again with the newest RCT3 expansion. They have really turned RCT3 into a great looking and functional game that is easy to pick up and enjoy with hardly any frustration or problems. If you already have the first two parts of the RCT3 series, don't hesitate to pick this one up as well.

Zoo Tycoon (Jewel Case) Review

Zoo Tycoon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So I was playing this game the other day, and it prompted me to write a review for those who might not have been fortunate enough to play it yet. Basically, the game is exactly what you'd expect... it's a sim/strategy type game where you take the role of a zoo keeper, and build your ideal zoo. With dozens of animals, from African hunting dogs to saltwater crocodiles to Asian black bears, this game should appeal to any wildlife enthusiast. The whole goal of the game is to make sure your animals, and guests, are happy. The former is achieved by placing them in a suitable environment, the later by building animal house (like 'reptile houses,' 'primate houses,' etc), resturants, gift stores and other attractions. You can choose several scenarios, from free form games to pre-made games that require you to achieve certain, increasingly challenging, goals. Over all, a very cool game, and one you can get cheaply too. But it will still provide hours of enjoyment. Go for it!

Harvest Moon DS Cute Review

Harvest Moon DS Cute
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Harvest Moon DS: Cute -

Before I get started, just incase anyone that reads this has NOT picked up a Harvest Moon game before... Harvest Moon is a farming simulator with a neo love system embedded into it.Throughout your play, you'll grow crops, raise animals, (in this version) date guys, and move on to have a happy family.
In this game, the Goddess has been punished by the Harvest God for being too lax with her duties. You, as a rookie farmer, have to unseal the cast away sprites and return the Harvest Goddess to her place, all while finally proving yourself worthy to the Harvest God.
Though I've given a brief description, the game play is more diverse and satisfying than what I'm cluing in to.My advice to anyone who has not played a Harvest Moon game and is curious is to just pick it up and see for yourself whether or not it's for you.
Moving on from the introduction...
This is very much like the original Harvest Moon DS released with the male main character, except now you play as one of two girls. There are some added items and the dialogue has changed, but the aspect of the game is still the same, just flipped around.
I was worried while it was being made, weren't we all? When the boy's version was released, it contained so many bugs it was frustrating. Don't get me wrong, this game is not without flaw.It has a few spelling errors here and there, though not enough to bother me or the game play.
As far as the changes go, since you play a girl, the marriage candidates have been switched towards the male spectrum, with more than enough possible bachelors to satiate anyone who has waited for this.Natsume has also (finally) added in a new guy, I might be a bit biased but I'm happy with the add. :)
Continuing on the subject of changes, they've added a wallpaper and flooring system, as well as a clothing change system and a few new events.
All in all, if you're a girl, or just a big fan of the Harvest Moon series, this is most likely a must have for you.

Animal Crossing Review

Animal Crossing
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Thank god I got this as a Christmas present. If I hadn't, I'd be bouncing off the walls all through the school day waiting to play this dumb game.
Why a dumb game? Well, the concept is amazingly simple. You live in a little town (mine was christined Jamaica by my little sister in honor of our upcoming trip to the actual island) in a little house. You can fish, dig for treasure, hunt bugs, and do favors for neighbors (all of which are cute little animals that vary depending on which type of town you ended up with). You have to pay off the mortgage for your house. You can chat it up with residents, visit the local museum, or go shopping. If that gets boring, you can always decorate your house with the seemingly unlimited amounts of rugs, wallpapers, and furniture. Sounds kinda redundant, huh? It's not.
What really makes this game fun? Three things. First of all, the detail in this game is amazing. The towns residents don't just interact with you, they interact with eachother. Several times a day I'll walk into an area to see one character whisper something to another, resulting in either one or both of them getting extremely angry (you can't talk to them while they're like this!) They'll also give eachother presents, and gossip behind eachother's backs. Also, if you share the town with another player (I share with my sister) the town's residents will tend to favor one of you over the other (e.g., a hippo named Lulu loves bragging to me about my sister, showing me her letters, and gushing about favors she did). Secondly, the town is bursting with surprises. You may start a conversation with a character only to have them suddenly give you a gift. New characters may appear, to move in or just visit. My favorite is a disgruntled mole that shows up and spazzes every time I restart the game. Because how would you feel if someone just started your whole world over again? Finally, the real time aspect of the game is great. On Sundays a warthog comes through the town selling turnips. On Saturday nights a guitar playing dog cranks out tunes. On holidays, there are celebrations (for example, I recently got a notice about a New Year's bash at the wishing well). Want to visit a resident? If it's past their bedtime, you're out of luck.
So it sounds like a kid's game? No way. It appeals to little ones (Preschoolers will adore the simple things, like shaking trees, collecting seashells, and moving furniture), grade-schoolers (the museum curator spews interesting facts, and it's always fun to interact with town residents), and teenagers and adults (there's a surprising amount of strategy involved!). What's also great is that you can never "beat" this game. Like The Sims, you basically play until you get sick of it.
I strongly reccomend this game to ANYONE of ANY AGE. Very addictive and endlessly fun, this game is worth your money!

As a huge fan of all things zoo and animal, I took a gamble on this game in hopes of reigniting my childhood passions.I was pleasantly surprised to find Zoo Tycoon 2: Extinct Animals was actually a lot of fun for a kids game.At my age it isn't really a challenge at all, but the fanciful nature of the gaming system and antics of the animals are fun to watch and unfold as you build your dream zoo.I was impressed to notice that both male and female animals have different looks, and some of the dinosaurs even have feathers.Someone was doing their research at Microsoft.I'd definitely recommend this game for younger kids who want to learn more about extinct animals and anyone else who just loves animals.

Deer Hunter 2005 Review

Deer Hunter 2005
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What can I say, Deer Hunter 2005 literally blew me away with its fantastic graphics, lifelike AI, and numerous game options. When I first saw the game I assumed it would be terrible based on the last few Deer Hunter games, but then I played the demo and wow what an amazing improvement.

The graphics are simply gorgeous and with a high end video card they really shine.Small weeds and leaves that bend as you move through them among other nice visual touches helps the immersion factor.I have visited many of the places available to hunt in the game and the development team created the levels spot on for the types of foliage and terrain found there.

Another great aspect of the game is the hunter's skill points that get awarded by killing certain amounts of game or by using certain types of weapons. If you increase your tracking skill points for instance, blood trails and tracks appear more frequently which allows you to find that pesky buck you just shot with a longbow.

Yet another great game feature is the inclusion of rare deer to the game, which is a satisfying experience when you become lucky enough to spot and bag one.

Overall Deer Hunter 2005, once the 1.2 patch is applied, is top notch and I really can't foresee myself ever getting bored with this game, unless of course the folks at Atari release Deer Hunter 2006 with similar features and enhancements.

Zoo Tycoon 2 Review

Zoo Tycoon 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was going to resist getting Zoo Tycoon 2, having recently being disappointed by the update of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 (which is NOT an improvement).I am, however, a simulation/strategy game addict--and I am happy to report that I don't regret giving in to the impulse to buy Zoo Tycoon 2.

The original version of this game was not one of my favorites.I found changing little squares of landscape and mending fences rather tedious for long term game play, not to mention only having income from entrance fees and food/drinks keeping my bank account in a permanent decline, and visitors loosing interest in the exhibits too quickly.

WHY THIS VERSION IS BETTER:
* 3D Animation - I tend not to care much about graphics in general, however these graphics are quite well done, and you can zoom in quite close to observe the animals. You can also click on any animal and find out what it's doing at any given moment.

* Photo Safari - In certain scenarios and challenge games, you can earn awards by taking pictures of specific events.Switching to a digital camera style view, you may have to take a snapshot of two animals, or an animal running, etc.

* Interactive Mode - You can switch to guest view, and walk around your park, getting a close-up view.Further, you can play caretaker and clean up after animals (and guests), clean animals and fill food dishes yourself.

* Donations/Income - Guests continue to visit all exhibits as the game progresses, and contribute donations at each exhibit. The more interesting the exhibit, the more they donate (they like biomes: exhibits in which the terrain, plants, rocks and animals are all appropriate to one another).

* Guest/Animal Detail - Similar to Roller Coaster Tycoon, you can view each guest or animal's specific needs, discovering which are fulfilled and which are not.You can also view lists of this information that can be organized by any category (which animals are pregnant, which guests most need a bathroom, etc.)

* Responsive Guests - In the previous versions, guests nearly dying of thirst would walk right by a soda stand complaining. Now they form lines (though they'll whine if the line is too long) or give an opinion ("I want something other than soda.")

* Atmosphere - Part of your score depends on the appearance of your zoo.Guests will get unhappy without fountains, arches and bouncy kangaroo rides to keep them entertained (and you'll get a message if too many of them are dissatisfied).

* Zoo Rating/Progress - As your zoo improves, so does your rating, unlocking more objects and animals.

* Exhibit Design - As with the previous version, you paint exhibits with appropriate terrain and fill them with the right vegetation for the animal. However, you paint in broad strokes, rather than micromanaging every square. Also, you don't pay for the change of terrain, which keeps the costs of building an exhibit much more manageable.

* Gifts to Wear - There's a different gift for each animal, and guests will buy those relating to animals they've seen in your zoo.You might see them walking around with moose antlers on their heads or peacock backpacks.

* No Broken Fences: The fences no longer deteriorate, so animals only escape if you use the wrong kind of fence, and predators will not kill other animals.Guests will still flee from escaped animals, however.

*Animal Adoption: No longer can you purchase unlimited flamingoes or tigers.A limited number and variety of animals are available at a time, the higher your zoo rating, the more species available and the more options you have. You can choose to pass on adopting a species, and it will be replaced by a random other species after some time that isn't already an option (but each level only makes certain species available, you need to earn 5 stars to get the rarest animals).

* Specified Research: Rather than having to research several things you don't want to get the one you do, you can choose the specific object you want to research next for a set fee.Objects available for research expand with your zoo rating.

WHAT IT LACKS:
* Number of Scenarios: I've had the game less than a week, and have already beaten most of the campaign scenarios. However, there are many challenge games still to be played. No doubt an expansion pack is already in the works to fix this.

* Number of Animals: There are only 30 different animals, mostly the same as those found in the previous version. However, there is a wide variety: for instance you have one species of tiger, one of elephant, etc.I imagine there will be an expansion pack to supplement this, too.

* Limited Initial Animal Choice: You always start out with the same three (Moose, Peacock and Camel) and need to establish them before more are made available, which gets a bit tiresome when you play a number of scenarios.

BOTTOM LINE: A family-friendly game, I'd say this is one of the best simulation games of 2004 (and I've played a lot of them).Easy enough for kids to play, but entertaining enough for adults. If you're a fan of Rollercoaster Tycoon or SimCity, this is an excellent choice.

Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection Review

Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection is the video game my daughter was waiting for.
A quick overview:In the original Zoo Tycoon, you are in control of a Zoo building scheme, similar to other "tycoon" games on the market. The original game had many animals and features, and allowed you to solve problem scenarios and create you own free form Zoo.However, I thought the original Zoo Tycoon had rather limited selections for the money.
In the first expansion pack, Zoo Tycoon Dinosaur Digs, they went a little way to solving the limitations by giving you Dinosaurs to create your own version of "Jurassic Park".It also added (finally!) some themed concessions to make your Dino park even more of a time travelling adventure. But, it too was fairly expensive for an expansion.
In the second expansion pack, Zoo Tycoon Marine Mania, "Sea World" type attractions were added, along with some new theming concessions and other things that went a long way to solving the problems of the original limits of the game.
For a long while, some other additions were only available online.Several Endangered animals and some weird ones like Yeti and the Loch Ness Monster took quite a bit of download time to add to your park creation capabilities.
But now, in Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection, we have a truly complete collection. Not only is the original Zoo Tycoon included, but the Dinosaur Digs expansion, the Marine Mania expansion, =and= all of the previously only available by download material.
The added feature of being able to see a few facts about your animals in a special window could make this game an educational experience.Making sure your animals have the proper terrain teaches that animals prefer the environment they originally lived in, and may help reinforce people's thoughts to preserving the few endangered animals that are in the wild.
I'm almost a Tycoon game addict, I love this package.I've played this so much I can see it in my sleep.I really enjoyed the effort the company made to include the previously downloadable only material. The four sections of the game crate a truly complete collection, just as advertised.
When considering Christmas presents for children, or a special treat for tycoon game loving adults, I find myself telling people about Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection, where I never did while it was all available in separate parts.Former fans of Zoo Tycoon will enjoy the fact that everything's included.New players will enjoy the easy scenarios, while experienced Tycooners will have the real tough problem scenarios they love.Highly recommended.
