Mafia II Review

Mafia II

Mafia 2 is one of those games that's not for the impatient. This game is not a GTA clone and it's not as polished as GTA4 gameplay-wise. (Rockstar made huge amounts of improvements throughout the series. Sometimes the more you make, the more you can polish/improve something, which is the case for the GTA series.)

What you should expect is a linear game with an awesome story, looks, voice acting, themes, settings, and music. It's more like an interactive movie but you get to decide what to do first. The sandbox style many people have in their minds is not what the developers focused on.
I won't go into details why the developers didn't go all GTA during development *cough*dev: STORY = VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT*cough*, you'll find out quite easily once you're in the game.

The main problem this game has is how the content was utilized. The developers created the beautiful and detailed city of Empire Bay but didn't squeeze every last bit of opportunity/fun out of it. There are no side-missions and nothing interesting to do (stores get old fast) after you're done with the story. I was really disappointed when I found out the game offers nothing else, having collectibles don't cut it. 2K Czech was either too lazy or ran out of time to add more hours of fun to it (but the game was delayed already). I'd give it a 2/5 for replay value.

It's relatively short when compared to other great full-priced SP games (around 8-10 hours on HARD). I recommend everyone to play it on hard if you actually wanna have a little bit of fun, otherwise it will get boring and you'll be able to burn through the story very fast.

And Jimmy's Vendetta? It should've been included in the game. It's definitely not worth the 10 extra dollars since most of the content are recycled (ex. Jimmy has Vito's body, vehicle theft pictures are hidden in the main game's files) and the missions are all dull, boring, and they repeat themselves.

For 50 dollars? Heck no. 40? Sure.

I regret paying for the collector's edition.
No refunds either :(

NBA 2K8 Review

NBA 2K8
Average Reviews:

NBA 2K7 was arguably the greatest basketball game ever created. The gameplay was simply no match for NBA Live's gameplay, which was downright horrible.Well, just when I though 2K Sports couldn't make a better basketball game than last years, this game came out.One of the big problems with NBA 2K7 was the graphics.A lot of the players didn't really resemble their real life counterpart.Well, that is no longer the case.2K8's graphics are the best I've seen yet, and all the players look so realistic that you actually believe that you're out there with them sweating on the court.

Of course, graphics aren't everything, right?Well, 2K8 has even better gameplay than last years. The shot stick still rocks the house, but there are also a lot of new additions to each game you play. After each game, you can watch the top three plays of the game. But that's not the coolest part. After each game, you can watch a highlight real of any player during the game.If you're playing as Kobe Bryant and you score 50 points against your opponent, then after the game you can watch each amazing play made by Kobe during the game.Sweet, right?

Well, this game also has a very fun and very realistic Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. This should keep you busy for hours, and it isn't even a part of the main game. If you're not good a dunking, there is a dunk school that can teach you how to emulate LeBron on his jams. There is also a really cool 3-Point Shootout.

So, if you're debating whether or not you should go with the hoops king 2K8, or try NBA Live 08, then I would HIGHLY suggest you get 2K8.Even though Live 08 is greatly improved upon, it still has a ways to go to catch up with 2K Sports and their basketball genius.

The Darkness Review

The Darkness

Don't believe the negative hype surrounding this title, it is a spectacular Xbox 360 Next Generation release.
I'm not sure how close the game resembles the comic created by Top Cow, but there are many treats to be experienced both visually and game play wise in The Darkness.
Lets start with some of the positive aspects of this game:

Graphically, this game is absolutely stunning in its graphical beauty.
The dark gritty New York City streets really give off that "real-city" vibe.
Garbage litters the streets and the subway systems, graffiti covers practically every wall (and this graffiti looks like actually graffiti that you would see in real life).
So much detail has been put into the floors, ceilings, walls and in you general surroundings that it is very easy to get deeply immersed in The Darkness.
Following in true Next Gen graphic style, all the wood surfaces in the game look like real wood, metal resembles real metal, concrete looks amazingly realistic. You can see chips in paint, cracks and chips in the concrete - its literally stunning.
The Darkness relies on the use of shadows, and the lighting engine is superb. Light shines off of virtually every surface that would reflect light (including leather!). Every object casts a proper shadow.
Since you are in a city, there are lights everywhere and in order for your Darkness power to work or re-charge you need to be in the shadows.
Basically this mean taking out every light you come into contact with.

Character models look really good. Not as good as Gears of War models, but the characters look believable, most of the time body parts move like they should, clothes look somewhat realistic. Cloth looks amazing. The bodies still look a little clunky, but nothing major.
Face models are wonderfully detailed, you can see wrinkles and imperfections in the characters faces. Sometimes you can see facial expressions however not too often. The faces are probably the most detailed aspect on each character. The eyes in this game look full of life.

The darkness powers look awesome. Your character acquires two demonic serpent heads on either shoulder and they look amazing. Each darkness power is represented very well graphically.
Weapons look realistic, some of the most realistic depictions I have ever seen in a game.
On a side note, you get to learn where the darkness comes from.

The physics are downright cool. Everything seems to move as it should. With one of your darkness powers you can pick up objects and people and fling them around. This looks very cool and makes you feel like a real "force-to-be-reckoned-with".

Some claim that the story line in The Darkness is clich
