2002 FIFA World Cup Review

2002 FIFA World Cup

What a disapointment! I was extatic when i read earlie this year that EA was developping a soccer game specifically for the Xbox console, based on its fifa franchise. I should have known better.
Apparently folks at EA figured they could say whatever they wanted and not only develop the game for Gamecube and PS2 but also release these versions just before that of the XBOX.
More importantly, they also figured they could do whatever they wanted. Why bother spending a lot of time on a game that will sale no matter what, simply because it is endorsed by the FIFA and has the Japan-Korea logo all over it!
So instead of spending the time necessary to build upon the previous installments of FIFA soccer, they did the opposite, they removed many features and added a "bonus material" which consists of a video documentary about the coming World Cup (who cares? this is not a dvd movie).
Since this game focuses on the World Cup, it is no longer possible to select a club or trade players! Fair enough, but where is the training mode? Where is it said that because it's only about the World Cup, it is no longer necessary to practice free kicks or set plays! This is amazing considering EA had already this feature built into its previous FIFA versions. At the same time, EA is promoting the fact that the passing system and the air play game are more complex! The only reason not to include a much needed training mode? Being able to release another version, an "improved" one this fall!
More, for those of view who liked the strategy side of the EA franchise, like the ability to change formations and offensive and defensive style on the fly... forget about it, it's nowhere to be found on this game. Similarly, you can no longer put pressure on the ball carrier by sending your guys on him!
More, the dribling scheme is ridiculous! Overall, there are fewer moves available, and, worse, they are impossible to perform. Two of them require that you press the Y button at the same time as the Black button... sure, try it! And the ability to let the user configure the controller settings himelf? of course not, this would have required more programming!
I could go on and on, however you should get a pretty good idea by now. Yes, this game has cool graphics (which sports game on the XBOX hasn't?). Yes, World Cup offers a newly designed passing system (so did fifa 2002 on ps2). Yes, this game is the best soccer game on the XBOX (but it's basically the only one if you put aside the ESPN game which is to sports game, what curling is to winter sports!).
So my advice, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Wait a few weeks until International pro soccer 2 and David Beckham's soccer game are released.
My rating: TWO THUMBS DOWN!

Pro-Evolution Soccer 2010 Review

Pro-Evolution Soccer 2010
Average Reviews:

For the record, neither EA nor Konami has made any innovative upgrades to their franchises for many years. Back when Konami wasn't releasing a new game every year, there used to be surprising innovations in the PES franchise. FIFA hasn't changed much in terms of gameplay since FIFA98. So both FIFA and PES are far from what they should be.

If you have been playing FIFA: there is little justification for you to switch. PES 2010 doesn't offer a much more enjoyable experience.

If you have been playing PES: This is the PES that you are used to and love, it's a nice upgrade from PES2009 in almost any aspect of the game.

If you have never played a soccer game before: Take PES, it has better player movements, tactical support, good AI (except for the refs and the goalies). It may lack the realistic feel outside the penalty area that FIFA is slightly better at, but it is much more exciting in the penalty area when it comes to passing and shooting for goals. Goals in FIFA are a bit more boring than PES goals.

Pros
* Slightly improved Become a Legend Mode
* Slightly improved online play
* Much improved Master League
* Much improved graphics
* Much improved tactics and strategy support
* Brit-pop heavy tracks

Cons
* Slow response for some moves and some parts of the field
* Brit-pop heavy tracks

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2010 Reverse of Arcadia Review

Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's World Championship 2010 Reverse of Arcadia
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Another year another Yu-Gi-Oh game. This one has over 3,500 cards.

STORY: This game takes place after the events of the 2009 version. It follows the 5D's show with the Dark Signers. That's as far as I'm going for this.

GAMEPLAY: Normal Yu-Gi-Oh play, with a top down view of the board, instead of the player's perspective, which was found in the 2009 version. There is more in terms of speed duels and racing, which, to me, isn't a bad thing. Variety is good. You still gain DP (Money) to spend on packs, which cost 150 DP each. Now that I've really gotten into the game, I'm earning 300-400 DP on average from each duel that I win. The game also seems to be faster. However, I turned OFF card animations in the options menu, since the game asks you after every phase if you wish to activate something...gets annoying and slows down the game, but it can be turned off from the options menu. The racing is still A = gas and B = Brake. Speed Duels still revolve around Speed Spells.

SOUND: Standard, nothing spectacular, but not bad.

DIFFICULTY: This is where some agree/disagree. At times this can be a difficult game. However, for the most part, it is a standard difficulty. The AI does make better moves, such as waiting to activate Mirror Force until you have some strength on your field, instead of using it as soon as they can on a monster you didn't really need. In that sense, it has become more realistic. Yeah, the AI does have its quirks from time to time, but it has to process over 3,500 card combinations, which is impressive.

WI-FI: Still there and has been changed slightly. You now get special coins for winning/losing a duel, which you can use to purchase cards on Wi-Fi. You can also duel and you will be ranked on your performance. Downloads are still there as well, like a different free card each day, new duel puzzles, and new opponents.

UNLOCKABLES: You can unlock packs and CPU opponents for World Championship by defeating different people 3 times each in story mode, which is better then 5 times like in the 2009 version. Konami has also made it much easier to tell if you have won/loss/tied someone any numberof times by walking up to them and clicking Information, which is a very nice add-on. You can also obtain star chips by winning in CPU Duels in World Championship mode and finding them in random places in Story Mode. These Star Chips can be used to purchase new clothes, duel disks, and different art styles for certain cards.

PROS:
3,500 + cards
Improved AI
Can now track wins/losses/ties against individuals in Story Mode, instead of trying to remember
Wi-Fi duels earn you special coins to buy more cards, as well as DP
Faster to unlock things with 3 wins, instead of 5
Cheaper to buy this game than to buy a bunch of real packs and decks

CONS:
Packs still cost 150 DP, which gets hard to come by when netting around 300-400 DP each duel

POSSIBLE PRO/CON: (Depends on the person)
Racing and Speed Duels are still in the game, with more than the 2009 version

OVERALL: This is an upgrade to the 2009 version, which is a good thing. There is still CPU Duels, Tag Duels, Tournaments, etc. that Yu-Gi-Oh games are known for. This is a good game for people who don't necessarily have the money to buy real decks and packs. 4/5.

UFC 2010 for ps3 has potential to be the greatest MMA game ever. The only reason I say it is not the greatest game yet is because there are several bugs.It is very hard to get a fight online and the career mode has some problems, including your stats decaying too quickly, fatigue not really playing as much of a factor as it should be, and opponents getting too tough too quickly. Some of the ufc fighters also need a little tweaking but as soon as the developers get a patch update out there, and I am confident they will, this will be the best MMA game ever. Despite these current problems, I also want to address its successes. The graphics are UNBELIEVABLE, every fighter looks completely real. And the realism doesn't stop there, every fighter in the game has fighting styles and abilities that are just like the real fighters. There are also all kinds of new features like the ability to make and play your own pay per view which is so fun if get some friends to play through it and the other gameplay modes that ensure you will never get bored of this game.So all in all, I would highly recommend this game if your a fan of the UFC although would recomend you wait until they get a solid patch update out there so you can enjoy it to its fullest.

2010 FIFA World Cup Review

2010 FIFA World Cup
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Whether you are a huge soccer fan or totally new to the sport this game is a blast. I bought Fifa 10 at release and have played it a ton and this game only improves on it. Same great engine from Fifa 10 is tweaked to address some major annoyances. (Defenders chesting balls in the box down straight to attackers for gimme goals, easy chips of the keeper)
Scatter shot observations.

All 199 teams, many with authentic jerseys. New stadiums and overall presentation is great although the in-game cut scenes can get a bit repetitive.

Graphics in the cut scenes are also improved and the player close-ups look better than ever. Captain your country is a pretty cool feature, and if you have a created player from Fifa 10 you can transfer him over. The stats you worked so hard to build up will not transfer though as you have to progress by performing well in qualifying and friendlies on the way to the World Cup.

Tourney mode starts with qualifying and friendlies. A simulate match option would come in very handy here since it takes forever to make it to the actual tournament.

Scenarios mode puts you in real life situations from the qualifying around the world with goals to accomplish in each game. Very fun mode with additions coming as the actual cup progresses. The announcers, while not my favorite individuals, are very accurate to situations and add to the game when you can hear them over the crowd (sliders available).

Online mode is fresh but limited to a World Cup tourney starting from the group stage. Pick one country and play three group matches to progress, then to the round of 16, and four single elimination games to win the cup. You do not have to play them all at once. Not sure how the matchmaking works but it is a blast. I would have enjoyed the inclusion of the team play modes which were a blast in Fifa 10. Doubt this was a space issue so I think it should have been included in a full price game.

I guess that is it. Overall a great purchase for most, especially if you have some competitive friends to play with!

GO USA!

WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 Review

WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
UPDATED on 11/5/2010 after much more time with the game.

While this is a much better game than 2010, it is once again a glaring hole of issues that Yukes and THQ never disappoint on. You will have the regular amount of kids and adults who turn a blind eye to these things, claiming the game is perfect, but you will be SORELY DISAPPOINTED if you listen to these people. I have spent quite a lot of time with the game so far, and while it is a decent title from Yukes for the first time in 4 or 5 years, it just doesn't get up to par with what they promised (shocking I know.)

THE PROS
--------

-The new physics system is decent, but it will give you problems like anything else. The tables break on cue and work well, but some weapons like chairs, fall apart with one grapple attack. The major issue with the physics system isn't it's set-up how ever, just that in typical Yukes' fashion, they're too lazy to reanimate 6 or 7 year old moves, so getting someone put through a table is only doable with moves they fixed or are brand-new, which is about maybe 10% of them if that. Other than that, you have to REALLY get things lined up for it to work.

-Much larger and fuller roster gives you a ton of selection once you have everyone unlocked, and when (if) they release the DLC you will get another 8 or 10.

-A new ability allows you to counter certain attacks into pinfalls, which can be reversed into pinfalls as well. A friend of mine and I did about 6 reversals and it looked seamless each time.

-Match Creator gives you a LOT more options on what to do during a match, and you can even create your own match, though it's VERY limited.

THE CONS
--------

While I can go on and on about little aspects in the game... the list of cons are what will make it or break it for a lot of people with this game. Yes... playing with friends is really fun, because two human controlled players can have an awesome time and not get bored. In a 60 minute Iron Man Match, the time flew by like it was just a few minutes.

-Real life active Titles ONLY can be defended in Universe Mode. This causes a lot less replayability in my mind. You MUST have Universe Mode turned on, and only #1 Contenders can challenge for Titles... ONLY at PPV's. Basically, if you want someone to have a belt, you need to go into the create mode and assign it to them, unless you want to spend 2-3 hours working for it. This kills a major aspect of the game lasting as far as I'm concerned.

-Glaring mis-spells. So far in two RTWM's I have seen three clear spelling mistakes in the captions, and by default, the game has Taker and Kane labeled the "Brother of Destruction." To me at least, these is just really unprofessional by Yukes for allowing crap like that to go through.

-Most wrestlers by default all have the same regular moves. Almost all wrestlers have the following; Running DDT, running STO, shoulder block, clothesline, grapple DDT... the list goes on. It looks like they spent the better part of 2 hours assigning the entire roster their moves. Most of us will spend hours and hours reassigning all the workers, as half of them are missing certain moves they use all the time, which are in the game. Inexcusable for me!

-Backstage in RTWM. Boring... boring... boring! The area is sizable enough to where every character in the game could be hanging around, but usually only 3-5 are around at a time, and interaction is so limited, you wonder why they bothered! You can talk to a wrestler, which will almost always result in them insulting you. Then you can shove them 3 times to start a brawl. This is about 80% of what backstage interaction is all about.

-Too easy to reverse everything. Even with the meter turned all the way down and the difficulty cranked, it's too easy to reverse everything the computer does. Once you get the timing down, you really cannot lose.

-Matches are WAY too quick. On average, Easy to Hard difficulty your matches will last about 45 seconds if you're really pushing for the victory in 1 on 1 matches.

-Over 100 Universe cutscenes? I've only seen the same 4 repeat over and over and over again! Someone buys a ticket and sits in the front row... someone goes to the announce table and you never hear from them, and there is also the attack on the ramp, and the sneak attack through the crowd. After boasting 100 scenes, I'm really hard-pressed to find out where the others come in!

-Universe Mode gets boring VERY fast. It is nearly impossible to work your way up to a WWE or World Title bout unless you win the Rumble or MITB, because the system tries to keep you at Intercontinental or United States Title level at all times. Heck, I can't even get my CAW into a MITB match, and he's never lost a bout in 3 years game time! Even after a year's time from winning the World Title, I took it off him to see where he would rank, and is still nowhere near any contention to the World Title... JUST the US Title.

-For a mode that claims to be fully customizable, you are so limited with Universe Mode, it's almost absurd. If you edit a scheduled match for one of your own, it doesn't count towards the rankings. If you touch ANYTHING in Match Creator for a Title match, it will change it to a regular bout. You can't even add a manager!

-CAWs is much more limited this year. It seems as though hundreds of pieces of items and designs were removed. I can no longer make myself like I could in other games, because what I used for my attire is no longer there in any sense.

-Want to put a custom tool design on your CAW? Download one or make one and knock yourself out... but then you can't use that CAW online "just in case" it's offensive. I put the Nexus logo on my CAW, now I can't use him online. BULL!

-When you do win a Championship, Michael Cole will always proclaim; "If this happens on Sunday, we will have a new Champion!"

-Online STILL HAS MAJOR LAG! I tried fighting a guy online last night, and I couldn't do anything. Apparently he has been playing with the lag for years, because he was spamming moves left and right, and used a ridiculous multi-tiered finisher that took almost 30 seconds to complete, and he used it almost 10 times before I couldn't kick out anymore. When you try to do something in an online match, there is a half second delay... EVERY TIME. Worthless!

-The Legends suck. Same old... same old. We've seen all these guys before multiple times. If you can't put anyone different in, Yukes, STOP PUTTING IN LEGENDS! You would think these guys are currently in the WWE since half of them have been in almost every single release since 1999.

-MITB is almost impossible to win past Easy setting. With the physics system, the ladder is always constantly being knocked down when you try to climb it. Any time someone does a move while you're climbing, the ladder goes down immediately, even it's barely touched.

-The RTWM's are terrible, aside from Christian's. Rey loses his memory, Undertaker's is filled with cosmic garbage set for a bad 1980's movie... INCLUDING a Bill & Ted Time Machine Phonebooth! Cena's is about his staler than heck feud with Orton, and I haven't even touched Jericho's because I'm sick of trying to play them.
All in all, while this game could be very fun for you, pick wisely. If you haven't liked previous Smackdown games, RENT IF FIRST because you may be very upset at spending $60 on a game when once again, Yukes promises and delivers on very little. The game will give me longevity because I play it a lot with friends, but as a single player game, you will get sick of it VERY quickly. I urge anyone who is thinking about buying it, PLEASE save your money and play it a friend's who has it, or rent it first. If you buy this game brand new thinking it's going to be a complete over-haul, and worked on greatly to be a better game, you will get a hard kick in the face by reality.

As I said, it's great fun with human players in the same room. My friend and I just recently spent 2 hours battling each other in a 6 Man Elimination Tag and it was just great fun.

But on your own... the game is just the same old repeating nonsense.

2010 FIFA World Cup Review

2010 FIFA World Cup
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this game yesterday and so far I'm very impressed.

This is by far the best world cup EA has created in their FIFA World Cup series. The atmosphere, graphics, and user interface are much improved over last world cup.

First, the positives:

The game play is pretty realistic. The defense is much harder to break down than in previous versions, which seems to keep the scoreline in check.

The online mode is awesome. You can actually pick a team and challenge other teams in world cup.

As far as the graphics go, I believe they're pretty strong. Stadiums, game action, and atmosphere, everything looks good. The crowds make you feel you are actually in the stadium.

Having 199 teams is a huge plus. You can even pick Afghanistan. LOL

Having two Button game play is a great addition for new comers in game.

Penalty kicks have improved and they are alot harder to score.

Btw the Goal looks bigger.
The negatives:You still can`t play against friends in 2 vs 2 match up.

There are no clubs in it, but that doesn't bother me since I have Fifa 09 and Fifa 10.

Overall. it's a great game. If you want more features and clubs go buy Fifa 10, but if you want better graphics more International teams get this. This

game comes out every 4 years so I didn't mind paying for it and enjoy having my hometown team in there. So if you are hardcore fan of soccer or your

country didn`t make it to world cup buy this. You won't regret.Take care and I'll see you online! :)
