Yu-Gi-Oh! Dungeon Dice Monsters Review

I have played the Japanese version of this game [and I hold high hopes for the English version]. As compared to the graphics of Dark Duel Stories, the graphics of Dungeon Dice are amazing [GBC to GBA, you do the math]. The game is a bit more complex than the Duel Monsters card game, and this makes Dungeon Dice a game that seems to be geared more towards older players. With a whole slew of monsters and a new twist on gameplay, Dungeon Dice makes for a worthy addition to anyone's GBA game collection.

Yu-Gi-Oh GX: The Beginning of Destiny Review

Yu-Gi-Oh GX: The Beginning of Destiny

this is an excellent game for both the novice and expert alike. it has an extensive tutorial that will teach you everything from the menus to the dueling system and even the gameflow structure chains and even combos! so this installment will be excellent for beginners in this aspect and as for veterans of the series well.
***USB CABLE REQUIRED for the psp/ps2 unlockable content such as card packs, and new cards***
there is a treat for you if you own tag force 2 for the PSP and that's Unlockable content such as new cards, new card packs, and even a few really special cards you might remember from the past.

another nice inclusion in this installment is MULTIPLAYER! finally for 2 players although, the book states tag teams of 2 on 2 but as of this writing I have not unlocked everything quite yet.

Now for a few gripes,
firstly this game is almost exactly the same game as "yugioh Tag Force 1" with a few exceptions and they are: you have to use a save point on the Main Map to save so no more PDA saving before a duel. also you will notice the random cards found lying about the island in the tag force installments is sadly missing here where getting cards is quite a bit harder without umd recognition (because it's ps2) and only a password option. trading with friends can be a hassle since you trade 1 card to 1 card with a friend out of a 5 card selection you each pick so you have to do each card singly if you want to trade all 5 for all 5. the story mode seems to follow the first seasons of Yu-Gi-Oh GX and has all the characters from jaden yuki and Zane trusedale right on up to crowler the shadowriders and quite a few other surprise guests. all in all this game plays well although a tad slower and choppier then tag force 1 or 2 but well done and the cards all work correctly sadly the rulings aren't always up to par but a blast to play and with friends playing along this will prove to be a blast to all fans of the series.
on another note: Monster animations during battle instead of more dueldisk animations would have been far better for this title.

alone it's good with a friend it's a blast! 5 Stars!

Gameplay: slower version of Tag force 1 but an excellent and fun game 5 Stars

Sound: jazzy tunes to relax to while you duel kinda sounds like they have the doors keyboardist. 4 stars.

Overall: while a few minor flaws bring my overall score of this game down it's just overall to me it's a blast to play especally with its rpg-esque style gameplay and yugioh! Card Playing it's about the best console yu-gi-oh game I have played so far. and it easily beats all the game boy advance titles as well. Fans of the series will think this a Must Buy and they would be right. 4 Stars

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Tagforce 4 Review

Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's Tagforce 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With all of the new cards and the new styles of dueling this game breathes some new life into the Tagforce series. There are a few minor annoyances that while they don't take anything away from the game they can make it somewhat annoying for those familiar with the Tagforce series. The first minor annoyance is that all of the secondary characters have decks named after their own name with a number beside it, making it very difficult for players, or at least myself, to remember what kind of decks they use. It also makes it difficult to gauge how tough they are. Granted I have yet to face anyone with an idiotically weak deck. They have all been either a moderate challenge or ridiculously tough.

Another minor annoyance is the alteration to the time system. In previous Tagforce games time only passed by moving to different areas. That is the same in Tagforce 4 except that time also passes with each duel you play. That means that you are desperate for DP you can't just hang you in a single area and duel everyone ten times over.

Sadly I have yet to participate in tag duels but the story mode system for that seems to be different. If I'm right than you can change partners daily but I'm only guessing on that. Hopefully when I do finally tag duel my partner won't have a sudden drop in IQ like they do in previous Tagforce games.

Yu-Gi-Oh Ultimate Masters Review

Yu-Gi-Oh Ultimate Masters
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Yugioh! card game doesn't translate well into a fully-fleshed out RPG, and each time Konami tries, veterans and fans of the true game suffer a little with each attempt. Games like Nightmare Troubadour are noble attempts, but focus on capturing the spirit of the anime rather than that of the game, and sometimes rules are sent to the side in the name of the story.

But Konami hasn't forgotten about those people who can recite to you the entire Ban List, or those who couldn't care less about the anime and want to play the TRUE card game. Ultimate Masters is simply that, a pure translation of the card game into electronic format.

From the get-go, you pick a name, an image to represent yourself in the game, and a starter pack containing about fifty cards. There's no pretense of a story here. Select Free Duel, pick an opponent, knock his lifepoints down to zero, and earn some Duel Points. Take those Duel Points, buy a booster pack, edit your deck, lather, rinse, repeat. No God cards. No Ancient Egyptian spirits.

For those of you who have played card games in the past, and seem intrigued by this, I give you a word of warning. This game is NOT beginner friendly. The name is Ultimate Masters, and it's for exactly them: people who have mastered at least the fundamentals of the game. There is no tutorial, no training mode, and one giant learning curve. Don't be discouraged, however. Konami churns out four or five Yugioh games a year, so there's one out there that's perfect for a beginner.

If you're still reading this, I'm sure you're at least familiar with the basics then. The game adheres to the current banlist (cards that are forbidden in play), and even features a password system to update the list to stay current with tournament rules.

Editing your deck is a breeze, with a multitude of filters to help you find the exact card you're looking for. One very useful one is the ability to search based on card function. If you're are looking for a card that has the ability to destroy Traps or Spells, select that function from the list, and the game will display all that apply.

Unlike the anime, where a single duel can stretch out over episodes, duels in this game are quick, challenging affairs. Very little effect is added to the game. No 3D images of monsters, no special summoning cutscenes. The most extravagant is a small "poof" as a card is destroyed. There's not much to the game audio-wise, either. The music is VERY forgettable, and sometimes downright annoying. This game's one to play with your MP3 player by your side. The most detail that occurs during the duels is the fact that for those familiar with the cards, it's pretty easy to tell which card is which without going to the Card Detail screen.

Were this minimal presentation in any other game, it would lose major points, but here it works. This game is for the people who want quick, brutal duels and none of that overdramatic flair the anime's famous for. So it works wonderfully.

Despite the fact that the game has Yuki Judai, from the new GX anime on the cover, you're not going to find hide nor spikey hair of Yugi, Kaiba, Yuki, or any of the other characters in this anime. Your opponents are the monsters themselves: a Skull Servant monster duels with an appropriate Undead themed deck. While this allows for a multitude of new strategies, and keeps duels from becoming predictable, I also miss the ability to school the "King of Games" in how a real duelist plays.

Anime based games generally follow the conventions of the show, and require you to focus on building one deck, and finetuning that one over the course of the game. This game EXPECTS you to build multiple decks built around multiple strategies. Any professional player can attest to the fact that in a serious setting, it's impossible to win by just "beating down" your oponnent. 2000+ cards leave the strategic options wide open, and the ability to save sixty different deck "recipes" lets you dabble with every strategy available without destroying a perfectly good deck to build a new one.

The Artificial Intelligence in games like this is the key to it's success. Many otherwise decent Yugioh games have been broken because of a faulty AI. While it's no Kasparov-beating Deep Blue by any stretch of the imagination, it does provide a very robust challenge now and again. Very often, I've won a duel literally by a handful of points because the AI seemed almost ready for my every move.

Should you tire of dueling, the game also provides Challenge Duels, which are a unique spin on the normal game, as well as a way to learn some of the advanced tactics and strategies that make the game popular with professional players. Goals like activating ten traps during a duel, or delivering 10000 points of damage during a battle will test your dueling-abilities, where a Boss Rush mode of Survival will pit you against random opponents, with your lifepoints carrying over from duel to duel.

For the serious player, Yu-Gi-Oh! Ultimate Masters: World Championship 2006 will be the very game that you have been looking for: A challenging AI, more ways to win than a player would ever need, and none of the overdramatic trappings of the anime. Beginners beware, but experts: This one's for you.

Yu-Gi-Oh Monster Coliseum Review

Yu-Gi-Oh Monster Coliseum

I've rented this game, (and still playing it) and it is super awesome! It's lots of fun! Here's a summary:

You play as Yami Yugi and Yugi who are now in a new tournament on an island, sort of like Duelist Kingdom, except it's not run by Pegasus. There are four stages in which you fight five people per stage. You can buy monsters at the entrance hall, but usually you win two from each duel. The game is NOT like the card game like some people think.

Your monsters work like this:
Light beats Dark
Dark beats Earth
Earth beats Thunder
Thunder beats Light
Water beats Fire
Fire beats Wood
Wood beats Wind
Wind beats Water

You start off by picking your symbol, which is a crystal, statue and color combination.Your crystal is either one of the elements and determines your starting monsters attributes.

The games starts off reletively easy, and Joey Wheeler is your first match. It is where you learn the basics of the game, and what happens on certain areas of the bored and how certain things affect your monsters.

There aren't any life points, except on your monsters. The goal of the duels is too destroy your opponents symbol, or to destroy there monsters, and as you go higher into the game, the numbers of monsters on the field may vary.

Right now I'm on stage three, and I'm kind of having a hard time with it, since it's much harder than the first two.I've beaten two of the duelists so far.

The graphics in the game are pretty good, but hey, it's definitely not SquareEnix stuff, but I give Konami their props.During dialog throught the game, they use the American Dub voices to read it, and make the characters talk, and it really isn't so bad.It gets annoying sometimes though when Yami Yugi or your opponent are all like, "I'm gonna win!" or "It won't end like this!"

I personally, love this game, but it's up to you if you wanna play it or not.Just giving you my opinion.I give the game a 10/10.

Yu-Gi-Oh GX Duel Academy Review

Yu-Gi-Oh GX Duel Academy
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Unlike previous Yu-Gi-Oh games, this one is more than just duels. It also is about schools! You've got the normal battling to earn points to build decks. But, you also have monthly exam days that consist of written exams (10 multiple choice questions out of a large number of possible questions) about the cards themselves, a timed duel where you have to win with the cards in the setup in a set amount of time, and then a practical exam using a deck and having to perform the specified actions for the exam (play traps, play spells, do fusions, do rituals, do direct damage, etc.).This game requires a lot of knowledge of the card game over all.

The rating drops from 4 to 3 stars for me because it is a pain to complete the packs. Also, if you fail your exams, you go back down to the loser dorms and have to work your way back up again.

A good game though.

Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's World Championship 2010 Reverse of Arcadia Review

Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's World Championship 2010 Reverse of Arcadia
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Another year another Yu-Gi-Oh game. This one has over 3,500 cards.

STORY: This game takes place after the events of the 2009 version. It follows the 5D's show with the Dark Signers. That's as far as I'm going for this.

GAMEPLAY: Normal Yu-Gi-Oh play, with a top down view of the board, instead of the player's perspective, which was found in the 2009 version. There is more in terms of speed duels and racing, which, to me, isn't a bad thing. Variety is good. You still gain DP (Money) to spend on packs, which cost 150 DP each. Now that I've really gotten into the game, I'm earning 300-400 DP on average from each duel that I win. The game also seems to be faster. However, I turned OFF card animations in the options menu, since the game asks you after every phase if you wish to activate something...gets annoying and slows down the game, but it can be turned off from the options menu. The racing is still A = gas and B = Brake. Speed Duels still revolve around Speed Spells.

SOUND: Standard, nothing spectacular, but not bad.

DIFFICULTY: This is where some agree/disagree. At times this can be a difficult game. However, for the most part, it is a standard difficulty. The AI does make better moves, such as waiting to activate Mirror Force until you have some strength on your field, instead of using it as soon as they can on a monster you didn't really need. In that sense, it has become more realistic. Yeah, the AI does have its quirks from time to time, but it has to process over 3,500 card combinations, which is impressive.

WI-FI: Still there and has been changed slightly. You now get special coins for winning/losing a duel, which you can use to purchase cards on Wi-Fi. You can also duel and you will be ranked on your performance. Downloads are still there as well, like a different free card each day, new duel puzzles, and new opponents.

UNLOCKABLES: You can unlock packs and CPU opponents for World Championship by defeating different people 3 times each in story mode, which is better then 5 times like in the 2009 version. Konami has also made it much easier to tell if you have won/loss/tied someone any numberof times by walking up to them and clicking Information, which is a very nice add-on. You can also obtain star chips by winning in CPU Duels in World Championship mode and finding them in random places in Story Mode. These Star Chips can be used to purchase new clothes, duel disks, and different art styles for certain cards.

PROS:
3,500 + cards
Improved AI
Can now track wins/losses/ties against individuals in Story Mode, instead of trying to remember
Wi-Fi duels earn you special coins to buy more cards, as well as DP
Faster to unlock things with 3 wins, instead of 5
Cheaper to buy this game than to buy a bunch of real packs and decks

CONS:
Packs still cost 150 DP, which gets hard to come by when netting around 300-400 DP each duel

POSSIBLE PRO/CON: (Depends on the person)
Racing and Speed Duels are still in the game, with more than the 2009 version

OVERALL: This is an upgrade to the 2009 version, which is a good thing. There is still CPU Duels, Tag Duels, Tournaments, etc. that Yu-Gi-Oh games are known for. This is a good game for people who don't necessarily have the money to buy real decks and packs. 4/5.
