Razer Abyssus High Precision Optical Gaming Mouse Review

Razer Abyssus High Precision Optical Gaming Mouse

This is a great mouse for RTS and overall a near perfect item.I rarely give 5 stars but this is an extremely high quality item.I gave it a 4/5 on comfort because I bought it to use fingertip grip which I don't think is a very comfortable way to use a mouse. However, this mouse makes fingertip grip more comfortable than on others I've tried.I've tried Logitech mx500, g500, LMO, salmosa mini and could not fingertip grip them at all comfortably while this mouse makes it pretty comfortable. The mouse has prediction / mouse smoothing / angle snapping whatever you call it turned off which is great.I have had no acceleration problems with it although I don't use the large mousepad palm style that I used to with FPS games so I probably wouldn't notice them if they were there. As for the complaints that it doesn't work with certain mousepads I think the incident rates of that are extremely low.I use a goliathus control and have had 0 problems. It's extremely lightweight, only beaten by a salmosa mini or a LMO with the weight removed. You can definitely claw grip this mouse or even palm it though your entire palm will likely not contact the mouse which may not be a bad thing.I often claw or palm it without realizing it during casual browsing so it is a comfortable way to hold the mouse. The mouse does not need any drivers which is great.Just flip it to 1,000hz and whatever DPI you want and you're good to go.I like the mouse wheel quite a bit.It is very firm and is lower on the mouse than normal.I feel a lot more comfortable using it as a mouse3 button than on any other mouse I've tried. The texture is very good.I was concerned it would be too slippery but I have not found my fingers sliding out of position during play and also it allows for a certain rotation of the fingers which is needed for fingertip grip as you pull the mouse towards and away from you.The sides of the mouse are shaped like this < > but not nearly that extreme of an angle obviously. This allows for a good grip on the lower half of the mouse so you don't have to squeeze it so hard to pull it up off the mousepad to reposition. The top angle gives you a good resting place for your ring finger. That is definitely the most important ergonomic aspect of the mouse for me. With all the other mice I've tried there is often no clear place to put your ring finger, especially with fingertip grip. The liftoff distance is a little bit high compared to my g500 but still lower than most other mice I've tried. The only other thing I can think of to improve on is the angle and height that the mouse cord comes out of the mouse. It is just like other mice but I think that the cord should come out at a bit of an up angle so it doesn't catch on the mousepad as easily, especially when using a mouse bungee.Other than that it is really a great mouse. This mouse is only very slightly behind my mx510 overall and by far the best for RTS games.

StarCraft 64 Review

I have Starcraft for the PC and the most outstanding thing is the nice, crisp graphics. But when I played it for the N64, the graphics were blurry. Because I recentle purchased an EXPANSION PAK, I compared it with andwithout it. The graphics were way better with it, and it also allowed a twoplayer mode, and BROOD WAR. So if you plan to buy it, just buy theEXPANSION PAK.

Better Chess Now! - Chess on DVD Review

Better Chess Now - Chess on DVD

Very good product. It serves to learn chess either at a begginer or an advanced player. I am a begginer at chess, but a friend of mine who has been in the game for more than 20 years found the program excellent. It is also very useful to have a good time playing chess against the computer which has been the only way I have used it. I would rate it 5 stars.

StarCraft Expansion Pack: Brood War Review

StarCraft Expansion Pack: Brood War
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
How often have you gotten an "expansion pack" only to be rewarded with lackluster efforts from a development team that has simply moved on from the title? Brood War delivers almost an entirely new game forless than the original cost.As expansion packs go, this one is about asclose to perfect as I've seen.
In addition to ~30 new missions (with eachof the three familiar races from StarCraft), you get more multiplayer mapsand new units to explore and enjoy (roughly 2 per race). In addition tonew units, many existing units have had their abilities enchanced orchanged.
Like StarCraft, you can jump into multiplayer on Battle.net andplay with up to 8 humans/players.You can only use Brood War against otherplayers who have Brood War (sorry! no mixing versions) -- so make sure yourfriends pick up a copy as well.
If you liked StarCraft, there's simply noexcuse not to own this.

Best Seller Series: Starcraft Expansion Set -- Brood War

I have been playing this game for 5 or 6 years. It is the best game period. It is somewhat difficult but not impossible to complete. Plenty of levels and missions. Good controls, great graphics for it's time and still stands up well to this day, great sound, good music, great storyline. There is a campaign editor, so after you have finished playing the regular game you can create your own game or play some of the custom games that are already provided. I keep waiting and hoping that Blizzard is going to do a quality sequel to this game and right now I am very disappointed that I have not heard anything to indicate that they are. One more thing, although system requirements does not state it, it will work on Windows XP, it has on mine anyway, without using the compatibility mode I might add. This is a great game do yourself a favor go out and buy it, now!

StarCraft Review

StarCraft
Average Reviews:

This game is awsome. It's an RTS (Real Time Strategy), meaning that you gather resources, build a base, and raise an ever more powerfull army to destroy your opponent. It's a fast-paced, action-filled, stategic and fun game. The premise is that a group of humans have been stranded in some far corner of the galaxy already inhabited by the mighty Protoss, with the Zerg, classic science fiction hive-bugs, about to attack both. The story is superb, told in three chronological chapters depicting the war from the view of each race. It's full of twists and turns, and the missions scale up in difficulty very nicely.
The best part about Starcraft are the three races.Blizzard has achieved a perfect balnce between them but managed to also keep them utterly different. The Terrans are humans, with tanks, heavy machine guns, nukes and lumbering battlecruisers. The Zerg are a rampaging scourge of giant insects who can be produced quikly and in vast numbers to overwhelm opponents. The Protoss (my personal favorites) are mysterious psychics who use ultra-high tecnology as well as their awsome psionic abilities.Every unit is unique with strengths and weaknesses. For instance, take the first soldier available for each race. The Terran Marine can attack from a distance and stronger than the Zerg's counterpart, the Zergling, but the Zergling is faster and can be produced much faster than the Marine. The Protoss' Zealot is strong, fast, and packs a massive melee punch, but costs twice as much as a Marine and four times that of a Zealot.Every unit has a role throghout the game.Marines constitute a large part of my forces in a game from start to finish. Each race requires individual stratagies that take years (if ever!) to master. This is what makes Starcraft such a tremendous game, and while it will outlast 99% of other games.
The sound is excellent, and the dialogue varies between intreging (sp) and hilarious. The graphics, when they first were released, were the best I had ever seen.I've played this game for yearm and only now are they starting to look outdated, but they're four years old.Besides, if you have time to look at an RTS' graphics, then you're not playing the game! They function and arn't a distraction, which is all that matters in a stratagy game, IMHO.
The coup de gras is the entire interface, which has been plolished to perfection. The curser looks like something space-age, and the moving portraits of units and wire-frame images displaying area damage and hitpoints are just flat-out cool. So is the options menu, with an animated space battle for the single player icon... To select a campaighn you click on a moving avatar of the species in question, which displayes vital statistics of that said species... Little things like this are awsome.I could go on forever.
Multiplayer rules, and has been going strong for years now with no sighns of stopping.Unfortunatly, most of the people are playing maps with limitless resourses and where single-unit attacks actually work, but that's not the game's fault. If you can find a game where people arn't doing either of these, it's a blast. The campaighn editor is also very good, once you learn to use the triggers, which can take time. The cinematics are superb, some seeming as if they belong in a movie like Aliens and not a computer game.If you buy Starcraft, get it's expansion set, Brood War, aswell. It adds alot.
This game's woth it's weight in gold-plated latinum.

Best Seller Series: Starcraft Review

Best Seller Series: Starcraft
Average Reviews:

Starcraft is the ultimate real-time strategy game.In a world of games that lose their appeal within a year of release, Starcraft keeps bringing players back.Blizzard Entertainment is known for its excellent RTS-type games such as the Warcraft series, but the company's high water mark is Starcraft. The set-up is that a long lost space colony of humans finds itself in mortal conflict with two alien races, the Zerg (nasty reptiles) and Protoss (ancient psionic warriors). The game allows you to play all three races in turn, and revolves around the collection of resources to buy more units, buildings and technological improvements as you try to fulfill mission objectives.
As we've come to expect from Blizzard, the gameplay itself is superb - intuitive interface, interesting units that complement each other in interesting ways, and graphics that are adequate even if they are showing their age.In my opinion, the balance between the three races is as close to perfection of any game I've played. Each race is utterly distinct and requires completely different strategies to play, but none has an obvious advantage over the others. But where the game really goes over the top is in the storyline.Blizzard is NOT known for great plots. For example, the Warcraft III storyline has some unbelievable plot twists that have to be overlooked to keep playing. In contrast, Starcraft has an absorbing plotline that flows seamlessly throughout the single player campaign and actually made me gasp in astonishment a few times, which has never happened since in an RTS.
I assume that any fan of real-time strategy computer games already has this one.If you have any interest at all in RTS, get this game.If you passionately hate RTS, Starcraft is the best bet to change your mind.

StarCraft Battle Chest Review

StarCraft Battle Chest
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If, by chance, you're reading this and you've never played Starcraft before, just go ahead and skip reading this and buy it. You won't be disappointed.
If you're thinking about buying it for someone else, goahead and buy it: I've given three Battle Chests as gifts and it was a hitevery time for both kids and adults, even to those who hadn't played thiskind of game before.
The Battle Chest is definitely the way to go, asyou'll save money over buying it and Brood War separately and get the stratguides for free (and, to be honest, I don't think the guides are worthhaving unless you're completely clueless about how to beat the game, andthere is information in the strat guides that is blatantly wrong aswell).
I've been playing RTS games since 1997, and in my opinion, this isthe best one ever made. No one has made one that's as fun, has as grippinga storyline and artwork, or depth and replayability of gameplay. It's awork of genius. I've had it for two years and I still play it at least acouple of times a week. There's even one mission left that I haven'tmanaged to conquer without cheating, so the challenge is definitelythere.
What you have to understand about Starcraft is that it's not meantto be a cutting-edge feature-heavy supergame where you can customize thebehavior of your units and give them complex orders. It's meant to be moreof a strategy game like real-time chess, and in this it succeedsbrilliantly. It shares the quality of chess in that there are a limitednumber of units with straightforward abilities, but there are an infinitenumber of things and strategies that you can do with them. To this dayplayers are still inventing new strategies for these units and races.
Theartificial intelligence and pathfinding of the game is the best I've everseen. No RTS game has perfect AI or pathfinding (units getting lost ortangled up on each other or the terrain), but Starcraft's is by far betterthan any others out there. The computer will flatten you time and againunless you're playing competently.
Multiplayer is a complete blast, andmore options are offered than any other RTS game. You can play team gameswhere you and your allies are actually controlling the same units againstthe computer or others, in addition to a wide range of variations likeCapture the Flag, etc.
Blizzard's Battle.net service is free and at anytime of day there are literally thousands of people playing. Internet playis smooth. I've played friends both nationally and internationally with badconnections and low-end computers, and it runs solidly even with theadditional traffic of voice chat like Roger Wilco over 56k!
Blizzard'scontinuing support for the game is also excellent. They release a new mapfor the game every Friday like clockwork, so there are over a hundred new,well-designed maps available for download and replay.
In summary, just asolid, solid, completely fun game. You can't possibly go wrong by pickingup a copy.
