Godzilla: Save the Earth Review

As of now alot of critics are really hating on this game, but if you're a Godzilla fan do not believe them.Someone looking for spot on controls and a non-button mashing fighting game should probably look elsewhere.Being a Godzilla fan for over 25 yrs. I can honestly say the monsters all behave and have their signature growls as if I was watching one of the Godzilla movies.Graphics are real good on the ps-2 and the monsters all look better then the DAMM from the gamecube and x-box.Environments are quite large and the selection of monsters is outstanding.Lots of modes to unlock and this makes the replay value very high, considering the fact that if you're a big G-fan then you will want to go through them all w/all the monsters to unleash all their different attacks.

But the game is not perfect, by any means. Some of the negatives would be the fact that on some of the modes and in Action mode you have to also control the camera when firing your beam.I am all about playing games that are difficult, but Atari makes this part FRUSTRATING!!It is kind of annoying. When going through Action mode if you quit at any point the only part that is saved is any points you have accumulated (which goes towards buying monsters, arenas etc..).Therefore if you were on the 3rd. level forget about continuing from that point the next time you turn on the ps-2.You have to begin at the very beginning of Action mode.I forgive the modes where you have to control the camera-practice makes perfect, but this part, the developers really blew it.One of the worst things a programmer could do to a true gamer.Another downside is the music-it is pretty bland. When you finish action mode the Godzilla march is played, big deal.It would sound so much better if it was played during a match, as well as all the other anthems from the Godzilla movies. The story for action mode was rushed and alot of it was cut before the game was released. This creates a story that really makes no sense, but considering that alot of the big G-movies had plots that either made little sense or were pointless, then this kinda makes the action mode feel cheesy-but in a good way.I wish you could play as Biollante and Hedorah, w/like 18 monsters to choose from this is just a personal gripe. But we are talking about a game that is based on movies where men in rubber suits beat the hell out of eachother, so the monsters do not move like soul caliber characters. This makes you feel like you really are controlling a 300 ft. tall monster-excellent!

So all in all this game is a lot of fun and I felt like I was in an actual Godzilla movie. If you like button mashing and enjoy the Godzilla movies-trust me you will love this game.Aside from the above flaws Atari really did justice to Godzilla. An incredibly fun game!!!!

War of the Monsters Review

War of the Monsters

It's like they took everything that I loved about the monster game genre (King Of The Monsters, Rampage), used it and improved it! So, yes you can feel the king of the monsters feel in it. But, it does it's own thing which is a lot bigger. The single player is very enjoyable and with solid A.I. and absolutely packed with features. You also have options of easy or normal, easy being challenging and normal being hard!. So far I've used Magmo and Ultra. You can really feel the differences. Magmo is super slow, but strong. He's just amazing to watch in action.
Ultra V will probably be everyones favorite. He's like using a transformer or samurai mech toy you had as a kid. Lazer eyes (Complete with the 'bzap bzap' sound effects), a plasma samurai sword and turbo boosters. Every monster I have seen so far is impressive. And, the intro is one of the best I have seen in a game in a long, long time.
The control system becomes 2nd nature within a few minutes of play and the camera is almost flawless. Playing the game with the mechs is an absolute blast. And it feels different then playing with the other monsters. It's hard to explian. Definitely, my favorite character is Ultra V. A Samurai Mech who knows Kung Fu, shoots lazers froms his eyes, has a grappling hookfor the classic 'Get Over Here' move', and a plasma sword. The sound effects of his jet boost are classic, and the metal impact his strikes and landings make are nothing short of spectacular. His Gundam voice has to be mentioned also. My friend has fallen in love with using Robo 47, the American Mech. A very cool robot if I do say so myself. Other cool ones are of course the lava monster, Magmo. Ultra powerful. The rock monster, Agamo who has the best voice in the game. His sound effects are amazing, youcan hear the rock against metal, or whatever surface he is hitting landing on.
The destruction of the city is amazing, eveything is destructible and it visually implemented to perfection. Smooth framrate throught the entire game, for both single and multiplayer modes. It's about as much fun as I have had with a game, maybe ever. It's hard to say whether it will go down as one of my all time faves, because I can't test it's staying power like that yet, but it's a blasr.
It feels like a monster movie come to life. I feel like a little kid playing it. As do my friends. Togera (the Godzilla/Beast from 20,000 feet below) has got to be one of the coolest looking monsters I have ever seen. Especially his Mecha-Togera outfit. His green fire breathe is cool as hell, a great special. I can say the same about all the monsters really. They are straight out of some great campy 50's Horror flic. The designers really captured that great work those old movies did, it makes your imagination feel great while you play. It's like a really great toy come to life. My friend I just got done playing a MARATHON session. We went at it tooth and nail late one night as his Ultra V took on my Robo-47 in an epic 'best of three' fight that took nearly an hour to complete. We unlocked a few secrets. The best being this (Not about Sweet Tooth, who is a secret character in the game!)....is that you can unlock skins! It's become apparent to me that the 4th version is either an entirely new design or an amazing offshoot to the original. This is a very cool treat in my opinion. Unlocking the 4th of each monster is almost like getting a new character. These aren't just skins, but new designs! Kudos to Incognito for including something so cool. And multiplayer, wow. Whereas bouts in most fighting games are over in a few minutes, you can make a single fight last for over 20 minutes. As you learn the levels, you start to understand how to best use the items, and can really keep things challenging. Health and energy icons spawn in specific locations to help make the fights about more than just beating on each other so their is endless replay value. This is some of the most fun I have had with a 'new' game in a long time.

Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Review

Godzilla Destroy All Monsters

First off...this is the BEST Godzilla game that has ever come about. The only one that came close was probably the old Japanese Godzilla game for the Sega Saturn. But this is not only the best Godzilla game ever, it also blows its Gamecube predecessor out of the water.
Lets start by comparing the two:
I'll be honest. The reason I bought a Gamecube was because of Godzilla and Resident Evil.I've been a Godzilla nut all my life. But when I heard the Xbox version was coming out, I couldn't beleive it.I traded in my Gamecube copy immediately and bought the Xbox version.
The Gamecube version looked ok, but the XBox version completely blows the cube away.Graphics are crisp, sharp and clean. The monsters are very heavily detailed. The environments never looked better, and the effects are awesome. The sound is also alot better, with Dolby Digital support. There is considerably less slowdown and the monsters all move fluidly. The Xbox version also lacks the graphical distortions that plagued the GC version. And of course, it lacks the infamous gamecube exclusive graphical anomaly 'pixelation distortion', which causes shiny or detailed objects to turn black and extremely pixelated, as if playing on a 16-bit system.
Exclusive to the XBox version, which just completely makes the Gamecube version inferior, is the addition of all game modes available for single player. In Gamecube, you could only play Adventure or Versus mode.To access any other mode, you MUST have 4 people playing. For the Xbox version, you can play any mode you want with computer controlled 'bots. Not only does the Xbox version have more game modes, but it also has new levels, larger levels, and even a new monster: Mechagodzilla 2003, a truly awesome monster. There is also XBox live capability.
There are a few problems though....For starters, the difficulty in this game is outrageously insane. The A.I. in the game can be very smart at times, but the problem with that is that it anticipates your every move and blows you away before you have a chance to pull it off. Also, the inclusion of power-ups in this game only hinders it.Whenever a power-up appears, the computer player automatically knows where it is, and makes a b-line straight for it.99% of the time, the computer will get the power-up, leaving you at a major disadvantage.
Other issues include balancing. Some monsters, namely Destoroyah, are so powerful that they simply throw away any fun factor in the game.Destoroyah has a series of uninterruptable and unblockable moves that can literally take half of your lifebar away in little over 3 hits. And once the computer gets a hold of the 'rage' power-up...forget it.You'll be knocked into next Tuesday.
Control is another issue...the control is so clunky that you won't even know whats going on.Reactions are delayed so much that you'll be mashing the controller and having your monster swing away at air while the computer charges up a beam attack. However, I blame this mostly on the Xbox controller, which is quite possibly the worst controller ever conceived in the history of video games, only second of course to the gamecube controller.
Those issues aside, once you get some pals over, this game is just a ton of fun.Team Battle mode and Melee battle modes are so much fun that you'll be sitting there for hours hammering away at each other. There's nothing more satisfying than hurling two giant monsters at each other and watching them collide in mid-air and hit the pavement like a ton of bricks. All in all, the game would have definitely benefit from an option to turn off power-ups, mainly because it would balance the game more. But overall, this is the best 'zilla game ever, and is tons of fun to play.

Godzilla Save the Earth is a new game from Atari. It is the Sequel to the past Atari hit Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee.Godzilla: Save the Earth has 20 featured monsters in it, 18 of which are playable. The playable monsters include Anguirus, Baragon, Destroyah, Gigan, Godzilla 90's, Godzilla 2000, Jet Jaguar, King Ghidorah, megaguirus, Megalon, Mecha-King Ghidorah, Mechagodzilla (1993), Kiryu (Mechagodzilla 3[2002]), M.O.G.U.E.R.A., Mothra (Larva and Adult form), Orga, Rodan, and Spacegodzilla!Battra appears as a summon (like Mothra in G:DAMM).Even Ebirah makes an appearence in the story mode!Godzilla: Save the Earth has many new improvements and features. There is a 1 player story mode with random challenges, or mini-games.The cities are now 3 times larger than the previous game. Also there is a new stats feature, where when you find a token you can upgrade your monster. The most important new feature is the online multiplayer feature.which is why Godzilla: Save the Earth won't be coming to the Gamecube, because it doesnt support online play very much (even though it has 2 oline games). There are many more great things about this game I didn't mention, but if you like Godzilla, or liked Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, you'll definitely want this game.

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Review

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee
Average Reviews:

Finally, a game that does the king of the monsters justice! Godzilla - Destroy All Monsters Melee is a blast to play, pun intended.
I was impressed with the 20 arena locations available to fight in...all of which have a DAY or NIGHT option. Slightly less impressive is the number of monsters to choose from; eleven. That's acceptable, but I would have preferred more. Not all of Godzilla's movie adversaries are in the game...only the best ones.
A larger problem is the story. The adventure mode is the only source of a plot to this game, and it is lacking. There's just not enough of it in Godzilla to make the story anywhere close to compelling. A deeper plot would have put some well-deserved meat on the bones of the game.
But gamers aren't going to buy this game for it's plot. They're going to buy it for it's fantastic-looking action. Have I mentioned the visuals yet? They are SWEET. Destroying cities has never looked so convincing. The animation is topnotch and the graphics are realistic. I'd say these monsters look even better in the game than they did in the movies!
And the sound...! That's where the Godzilla authenticity really shines through. Every noise the monsters make has been faithfully reproduced from the original Godzilla movies. It's not just perfect, it's nostalgic. I particularly like the sound of the beasts' feet as they walk. The use of brief but heavy bass is a great touch.
You know what? Playing Godzilla DAMM makes me want to watch the original films, as dated as they are. A game that can do that has something going for it.
