Simpsons: Road Rage Review

This is a fun driving game. The jist is Crazy Taxi in Springfield. There are 12 cars to unlock & 5 maps to unlock.I've had this game a week and its very very fun.The load time mentioned in previous reviews is true however you can speed up load speeds by changing the drive speeds. In options without any game inserted you can change the cd read speed. As for game play it is very addictive. You can practice on Sunday Drive to hone your skills. Then Rage on the Road Rage mode to earn money and to unlock vehicles and maps.Almost everywhere mentioned in The Simpson's World of Springfield is present. You can go to Moe's you can drive through the Center of the School.Besides that there are quite a few shortcuts to find. The Canyonaro piloted by Marge is one heavy duty vehicle. Some of th cars to unlock is Apu's - Sports Car,Rev. Lovejoy's - Book Burning Mobile,Otto's - School Bus, Chief Wiggum's - Patrol Car, Barney's - Snow Plow (one mission you have to run over 12 City Mascots with the plow),Scientists - Hover car, Krusty's - Klown Car,Willey's - Tractor, and Flander's - Station Wagon to name a few.Pure driving satire is this games charm.Hours of mayhem on the streets of Springfield.Watch out for the Buses and Smithers driving Mr. Burns around town. One of my favorites so far for the PS2.

There's road rage, and then there's road rage Simpsons style! D'oh! Mr. Burns is up to his greedy ways again. He's purchased Springfield's transit corporation and heinously jacked up the fares. Refusing to shell out for the new rates, the road rage ensues. You'll take on commuters and jam-packed back routes, all in an effort to help buy back the corporation before time runs out.
More than 25 Simpsons characters climb behind the wheel or wander the streets begging for a ride. "Eat my shorts, dude!" Careen through timesaving shortcuts and take on terrain including hills, mountains, and forests. Wreak havoc in five Springfield neighborhoods that include landmarks such as Moe's Bar and the nuclear power plant. Busy traffic and wayward pedestrians confound your rage. However, two-wheel leans, speed starts, power slides, and other cool car physics help you release that rage.
Multiple game modes let you go head-to-head in two-player split-screen action that challenges your opponent in a race for the next passenger, or you can steal his or her passenger midride! Complete up to 60 unique passenger deliveries in story mode, or take a leisurely Sunday drive through the fair Springfield. A bonus system lets you unlock cars and specific characters, while intuitive menus make this game easy to play. As Homer would say, "If it's hard to do, it's not worth doing!"

The Simpsons Hit & Run Review

If you are a Simpsons fan, you'll love this game.If you're not, well, you find it to be a decent game at best. This game is a smaller, less refined version of GTA littered with great Simpson references.Any true fan of the Simpsons will enjoy finding jokes from many of the shows scattered throughout the game.
The Simpsons is like Grand Theft Auto 3 in that missions involve driving a car around a city, and sometimes walking around.Instead of one huge city, there are 7 levels, comprising of one of three different subsections of Springfield - the neighborhood, the downtown, and the marina district. All the Simpsons haunts and characters are there. The Kwik-E-Mart, the Nuclear Power Plant. It's all there. You play as Homer, Bart, Lisa, Marge and Apu.
Unlike other Simpsons games, this is a polished game. It's fun to explore the places and characters. There are many side missions and gags to do as well.Unlike GTA3 though, the sense of being in a living, breathing city is just not there. The main part of the game are the story missions. There are a total of 49 of those to complete. The missions are all a variant of race someone, gather something, or beat the clock. After a while, the repetitiveness of these missions begin to pine away at the novelty. The multi part missions are terrible in that failing a latter part of the mission causes you to restart the whole mission again.Couple this with the bad traffic AI and sometimes you just want to break the controller.
There are some other things that frustrate me.The Multi-player is terrible. All it is a cheap race that looks exactly like an NES game (the 8-bit version). It should not have been included. Also, the beginning levels are way too easy, and the latter levels are way too frustrating.
All in all, it's a good game and I recommend it to any true Simpsons fan out there, but don't expect miracles.
Pros:
Hilarious
Tons of obscure Simpsons references
An actual fun and polished Simpsons game
Great for exploration
Cons:
Missions are repetitive
Traffic and AI are badly designed
Stuck on some missions
The "multi" player level is an insult to gaming.
Time to Complete (Story missions only): 17 hours
Frustration Level: Medium/High
Difficulty Level: Easy/Medium

Simpsons: Hit and Run Review

Simpsons: Hit and Run

The Simpsons: Road Rage was a clean cut, crazy take off of Crazy Taxi. The game came with lots of fun and kept the gamer in the Springfield mindset with the goofy artwork. The Simpsons: Hit and Run is a take off of the series Grand Theft Auto games. Like Road Rage, Hit and Run keeps the gamer entertained with many aspects of the game.

The storyline of Hit and Run takes a large positive leap from the lacking plot of Road Rage, keeping a "true to the Simpsons" feel. Starting with a simple number of shopping errands, the story evolves into an investigation and then a whacked out Simpsonic final level.
The gameplay and control of Hit and Run is much more realistic than the goofy Road Rage. The car control will remind you of many other greatly developed car games you have played and the on foot control will always encourage you to loot away from your vehicle. With realistic yet easy-to-master control, Hit and Run creates a very pleasing interface.
Alike Road Rage, Hit and Run will keep you laughing at the voice recordings of the Simpsons cast as you crash into people, fall off of ledges and run around on foot. The lines uttered from the characters in Hit and Run are very true to the Simpsons show which gains the game much credit.
One negative aspect of Hit and Run would have to be attributed to its replay value. The game is extremely fun the first time through and becomes a challenge as the levels progress, but once the missions have all been completed, there remains little left to do. The gamer can sweep through each level again collecting and destroying certain items they may have missed. This option does grant the game credit for replay value, but not much.
The Simpsons: Hit and Run is a title worthy to be of Simpsons merchandise. The storyline keeps the gamer entertained and eager to move on. The realistic car control creates a fun, easy to master environment and the "out of vehicle" interface makes the gamer want to loot on foot. Very well orchastrated voice acting creates a humorous and unique world which stays true to the Simpsons. The Simpsons: Hit and Run is a step up from The Simpsons: Road Rage. The game will keep both Simpson fans and car driving fanatics greatly pleased. Many complain that Hit and Run is too realistic and should have used "cell shading." This point is well taken, but could never be an option considering the creators and producers of The Simpsons have always desired their show to steer clear of a comical feel. The Simpsons: Hit and Run keeps the gamer entertained thoroughly and only rarely does said gamer realise he's playing a cartoon.

The Simpsons Game Review

I've spent years searching and experimenting with different games to play with my "non-gamer" wife: Dr Muto, Jax and Daxter, Crash Bandicoot, Ratchet and Clank, etc., and the Simpsons is the best by far.

While each of the above titles has something to offer, they all ended up with my wife getting frustrated by having to "grind out" a particular level over and over and over again from the beginning until we get it right.Aside from the time trials, the Simpsons is very forgiving in terms of character death, and lets you continue in the level from where where you died - most often without any game interruption or restarting at all.

The "episodes" are challenging enough to hold your interest through the use of humor and standard puzzles, and short enough that you can play for an hour and actually feel like you've accomplished something. This has always been a key area in holding my wife's interest in a game, because if she walks away feeling like she wasted her time... forget it - that game's a goner.

So, if you've been looking for a PS3 game that you get your non-gamer spouse to play with you I think you ought to give the Simpsons a go.
