Blood 2: The Chosen Review

Blood 2: The Chosen

Blood II: The Chosen is a horror based fps with a good single player gameplay and a fantastic multiplayer gameplay. It is the sequel to Blood, one of my favorites. You play caleb an undead anti hero. In the first game set in the 1930's, Caleb served for a dark god Technoborg and his evil organisation cabal, when he decided to leave cabal he and his lover were murdered, caleb returned from the dead and took revenge by destroying technoborg and became the chosen one. Now it is 2030 a century has passed with the caleb wandering the earth mostly minding his own buisness. Now cabal has become cabalco and its leader Giddion wants to take revenge on Caleb. You as caleb must escape from Giddion and destory him. The gameplay is very good with more than 30 levels in four episodes, The gameplay is very good though not quite as good as the orginal. You can play as four charecters, play as caleb only he gets cutsences. The level design is very good from moving trains, haunted cathedrals, hovercrafts, catacombs, science labs, high rise buildings ect. The levels are very large and a lot of fun. Some of the levels are dark and scary just like the orginal. The selection of weapons are excellent, there are more than 15 weapons from beretta, shotguns, assault gun, snipper rifles, howitizer and telsa cannon which is my favorite. some of the weapons are not as good as the orginal, voodoo doll and life leech are not very powerfull here. A big dissapoinment is you cannot carry more than 10 weapons in your inventory.
Blood II is built on the lithtech engine, I played it on the Direct3D video mode and the game runs very smooth and the level loading was very good. The graphics and charecter animations are outdated today, sound recording is just ok. The creature animation is fantastic, There are lots of scary and well animated creatures. It is a funny game, Caleb is my favorite game charecter, He says a lot of cool one liners like "When you get to hell, tell them I sent you. You can get a group discount". There are lot of black humor in the game. It is a very violant game, It has lots of red fluid flowing and many nasty sences. Blood2's multiplayer or Bloodbath as called here is excellent, there are lots of well desinged maps. you can control your charecter by arranging points for speed, strength ect. Each charecter begins the game with ten weapons of his choice with full ammo. Unfortunatly the network code is buggy, but it is a great game on Lan parties. It has one of the best multiplayer gameplay ever. Blood2 is not as good as the orginal but it is a good game.
Finally I had a small problem with the game and almost everyone with Geforce based video cards may have that problem in Shogo and Blood2. The main menu will not appear or keep flickering. Turn the vsync to always off in the more Direct3D option...

X3: The Reunion 2.0 Review

X3: The Reunion 2.0
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For those of you who have been looking for that space simulation that's actually a simulation, you've probably found what you've been looking for.

Let me start with an explanation, X3 is storyline optional. There are several different options to start off with, giving you the choice of just about any time of job, with the storyline turned on or off, creating a massive sandbox. Massive is right too, with about 120 sectors, each with an infinite navigable space, although most people will probably go about 30km on each axis. Each sector is connected to other sectors adjoining it via HUGE gates, at least 500m in diameter.

Another thing about X3 is the simulation. This will turn most people away, as the game takes place in real-time, with time compression to simply speed up time. The game literally seems to take forever. There are numerous ways to make money in the beginning of the game, and none of them are by any means quick. Money is treated realistically, with ships and weapons outrageously expensive. Prices are calculated on a supply and demand, so unlike games like Freelancer, you MUST keep an eye out for good deals, as the prices will almost never be the same at the same factory.

For example: If you buy 5000 units of argnu beef for 40cr for 200,000cr, the prices will probably be about 60cr after you buy. Then take them to another factory, and say they buy argnu beef for 50cr, once you sell they will buy for maybe 30cr, and from that trade run you make a profit of 50,000cr. The game isn't this rounded, but that's about how trading works.

Fighting is also always present. Pirates have bases in certain sectors, and will attack you sometimes, depending on how vulnerable you are, and what you're carrying. If you're empty and well-armed, they'll probably avoid you. You can, however, capture ships, pirate or otherwise. Captured ships will NOT be in the best of condition, but they will still sell for a pretty penny at certain stations.

Later in the game, you can save up and buy factories which produce products or resources. You will of course need to rent a ship to transport them, unless you already own a certain type of ship, as well as buy ships to transport goods to and from your factories. The scripting for the ship AI is pretty decent for a universe that virtually runs itself.

At first you will probably feel constrained by your equipment. There's always that freighter that makes 100x more than you, or that fighter that's faster and more maneuverable than you, or that ship that has better weapons or shields than you. Although after a few days of nursing your hoard, you'll find that you can afford some really big ships and better equipment.

The complexity in X3 is absolutely astonishing and I honestly can't do it all justice. It can be completely overwhelming for most people, but if any of the above sounds like fun to you and you have a fair amount of patience, I suggest you buy this game. For $20 you can't go wrong!

If you do buy this game, I suggest you check the Egosoft forums for some helpful scripts and bonuses, both fan-made and official.

Defense Grid Review

Defense Grid
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This year indie groups seem to be the ones keeping PC gaming alive. After the brilliant World of Goo and the innovative iFLUID and CRAYON PHYSICS, DEFENSE GRID comes along and reminds me how much fun an intelligent PC game can be!

The basic idea is simple enough: you have a power supply with a limited number of cores. Aliens will try to walk (and some fly) in and out with one or more of them. Your job is to place defensive towers to kill them off before they reach the exit. The more aliens you kill the more credits to spend on towers you get. Wave after wave even more aliens will come - so you better choose wisely where to place your towers. It seems simplistic but I assure you it is not.

Different aliens require different types of defenses. From projectile and field to short and long range (and numerous upgrades), there is no short supply of defense towers. And since their deployment and upgrades are not instantaneous, you need to plan ahead (there is a tactical screen on top that foretells what kind of aliens are incoming).

As the game progresses there is more freedom in where to place your towers and, subsequently, reroute the aliens' influx. That is really fun! Make them serpentine around your more powerful towers (and delay them with the Temporal Distortion ones) to wipe them out before they even reach your power cores.

The graphics are very well done, with full zooming capabilities. The camera gets a bit jumpy when fast zooming in, a feature I particularly liked because it reminded me of the BATTLESTAR GALACTICA external shots. The environments are beautifully designed with attention to detail and (contrary to full-priced releases such as SPACE SIEGE) never get boring.

I really liked this game. If you decide to bite the bullet too, be prepared to get really hooked. This is the most ADDICTIVE game ever since Civilization II!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

World of Goo Review

World of Goo

This is a puzzle type game unlike any other. You basically work against the laws of gravity and physics while trying to get your balls of goo from point A to point B by building structures with them. The imagination and creativity that went into this game is unbelievable. The 2D graphics are gorgeous and the music, atmospheric. Although somewhat vague, there is a story that ties the puzzles together and it adds some humor to the events that unfold as you progress, especially toward the end. This is a game that has to be played to be fully understood because it is hard to describe. I thoroughly enjoyed this and didn't want it to end. I still go back and play some of my favorite levels.

One final note: This ia a computer friendly game.Easy to install, small file size and most importantly, no DRM.
