Razer Copperhead Tempest Blue 2000 Dpi Mouse with built-in Memory Review

Let's start with the basics:

My computer is midrange. I have a 3.0 Ghz P4, 200GB Hard drive, 1.5gig PC3200 RAM, and a GeForce 6600GT. This places me at the slightly above average range for computers, as I understand it.

The original mouse I used was the stock Gateway ballmouse. Disgusted with it very quickly, I bought a Kensington Optical Mouse. This mouse lasted a little while until one day it mysteriously started dying on me (about a year to a year and a half later).

I replaced it with a Logitech MX610..I'd always wanted a wireless mouse and did not want to spring the extra fourty dollars for an MX1000.

Bad move.

The mouse was terrible for gaming -- mainly I play WoW, Oblivion, and Dawn of War, as well as a touch of Half-Life and Halo. Disgusted with wireless mice almost immediately, I purchased the Razer Copperhead (Tempest Blue) and the Razer Exact pad after reading multiple reviews comparing it, the MX518, and the G5 gaming mouse, and going to my local Best Buy to "field test" (get a feel for) all of the mice. After extensive field testing, I decided that the Razer was the one for me.Now onto the mouse itself:-First Impression-
Right out of the box, this bad boy came equipped to do battle. After installing the firmware that came with the mouse, readying the Exact mousepad, and plugging this in, I found myself mousing at an incredibly improved speed. Not to mention my accuracy was almost dead on. I required a few small adjustments (toning the dpi down to 1600 instead of 2000, etc.) in order to keep myself from overshooting due to the sensitivity of the mouse.-Appearance-
The blue LEDs that surround the mouse look excellent in lit rooms and absolutely stunning in dark rooms. The tri-snake emblem on the top of the mouse pulses slowly and rhythmically. I cannot speak for the other colors, but the blue truly made my desktop a more exciting thing to look at.-Comfort-
The mouse took a little getting used to, I will fully admit. Its long, tapered buttons suited my large hands perfectly. However, the mouse is not overly bulky. It has a fairly low profile and has more of a delicate touch feel to it when mousing, as opposed to rough push feel of many mice. Moving your cursor is a simple task, with a gentle little flick of the wrist...it feels far more like you're guiding this mouse, instead of forcing it, if that makes sense.-Software-
Easy to use, easy to figure out, this software has it all. From minute adjustments to how sensitive your scroll wheel is to how fast you need to double-click the mouse in order for it to be recognized as a double-click, the mouse is infinitely customizable.-Hardware-
Solid and strong feeling, the mouse sticks to your hand nicely. Though it does feel a touch light and delicate, I'm a firm believer that it could take a hit and walk away from it (though why you would want to hit a 60-80 dollar mouse, I have no clue...) The low profile will also take many mouse users a little while to get used to, as every mouse I'd had before had a very high profile. Coupled with the gel wrist rest that can come with the Razer Exactpad though, you quickly forget how low profile it is.

The buttons on the top, as mentioned before, are incredibly convenient. The buttons on the side are not so much however. Being a right-hander, I found the mouse buttons on the lefthand side incredibly easy to reach and use. The righthand mouse buttons however, are nigh-impossible to use. My only guess is that one would use them for the stock setting (to switch dpi on the fly), and probably more likely that they are set there for symmetrical mouse usage by lefties.

The teflon feet that come stock on the bottom of this mouse make it slide over the mousepad like air. Though a bit light to me, you can customize this mouse to make it heavier by purchasing a Razer modification kit from Razer's homepage (costing between 10 and 15 dollars typically). However, using this repair kit voids your warranty. Conclusion (Pros):
- Visually Appealing
- Incredible Accuracy
- Software makes customizing mouse a very unique experience
- Comfortable Feel
- Low Profile helps cut down on wrist strain
- Top End Construction
- Teflon Feet a huge plusConclusion (Cons):
- Price is a deterrent
- Mouse buttons on at least one side will feel all but useless
- Adjusting to a gaming mouse of this quality takes TIME--- Overall ---

I could not be happier with the combination of mouse and mousepad I now have. A worthy buy? Absolutely. I rate it 5/5 stars...it's just that good.Edit: September 3, 2007: Over a year (pushing a year and a half!) later and I am still using the same mouse. Unfortunately I have only upgraded my video card (currently a 512mb 7900GT KO), so the processor and pc3200 ram are beginning to drag on newer games. I still play Battlefield 2142, F.E.A.R., etc, on full or nearly full resolution with no problem, however.

The mouse is continuing to function, even after having been dropped several times and the abuse of a 17 year old little brother who stays at my place to dogsit while I am out of town at work.

THE ONLY COMPLAINT I now have is that the teflon feet on the bottom of the mouse are beginning to wear out...I think I need to order more and replace them, as the ice-smooth sliding movement of the mouse has been roughed up quite a bit by the loss of the relatively frictionless feet. Other than that? No problems whatsoever. The driver still work fine, and the mouse is as crisp and responsive as ever!UPDATE: 11/19/2008 - Still using the same mouse and it is still responsive as ever. I am no longer playing any MMORPG games, but I still play Battlefield 2142, I have been playing Crysis lately, and I am anticipating Dawn of War 2.

The mouse is still working beautifully and holding up very well! This mouse has sealed my positive opinion of Razer. Notice I have had it over two years!

I read S.Hogan's 'irritatinginferior' review and felt compelled to add my two cents.
I think he didn't give the game enough time or just isn't very good at it because i'm having a lot more fun with it than he is. Vehicle transport is a big part of the game and sure its annoying if a bunch of guys on your team leave without you, but you can request a vehicle drop from your commander or wait for a new vehicle to spawn, or... move on foot.

Problems he had with identifying enemy units in-game are no longer an issue, anyone within a reasonable distance from you in the game.. say 40 feet or so, has their name and color to indicate friend or foe, at all times, you no longer have to aim at someone to find out. Not to mention the uniforms and skin color are usually different.

Some games are dominated by those who get to the planes and helicopters first, but Ive found thats only the case if your playing on a smaller map (and if the pilots are good). With enough players on the map there will be too many ground targets for air vehicles to keep up with and they will ultimately be shot down. There are some very skilled pilots that play this game and they take it very seriously. If you enjoy flight simulators this would probably be worth a go. Ive seen some really impressive videos of pilots in this game, there are several different types of jets and helicopters, if you can't fly very well but want to fight from above I would suggest getting a joystick or just playing as a second gunner.

The game can be a bit choppy at times, mostly dependent on your system. Check the system requirements before purchasing the game, this will not run very well on older systems, but does take full advantage of some of the newest video cards available. I recommend at least 1GB ram to play, 2GB would of course be better but not necessary.

camping or 'baseraping' is a problem as stated, but thats due to the nature of the game. If the enemy is taking over a base you might not want to spawn there because of it, but if you think youve got a shot at stopping them then you might try to spawn there at your own risk. No one likes to die right after they spawn but you can play smart and minimize this.

Gulf of Oman is a fun map, but not my favorite. Seemingly everyones favorite is 'Strike at Karkand'. Its played more than the others anyways. Overall there is a good variety of maps, with all the expansions (special forces expansion comes with the deluxe edition, there are two other expansions downloadable from EA online, Armored Fury and Euro Force) there are plenty of maps to choose from and most offer a variety of gameplay options, meaning it wont always be the same fight, same choke points etc. most of the maps are pretty good, there are some custom maps available as well.

The sniper does seem pretty weak compared to some other games but I think its balanced pretty well. If you enjoy playing as a sniper it wont be the strength of the gun that annoys you but the lack of a extra-zoom feature. there is only one standard zoom length for the sniper rifle. This of course varies between each sniper rifle and there are 2 unlockable ones available as well.

Speaking of unlockable weapons, there are a total of 14 unlockable weapons, 2 for each 'kit' wether it be for the assault kit, sniper kit, anti-tank kit etc. The unlock weapons do seem to be better than the original but they all have different specifications so some people prefer the stock weapons, I am not one of those people.

S.Hogan said the only difference with special forces was zip lines and jetskis, but this is not true. With special forces comes the addition of some new armies including British SAS, Russian Spetsnaz and Insurgent forces. They each have their own set of weapons, some weapons overlap but the difference in stock weapons for various army types (including the USMC, MEC, and Chinese of the original game) is pretty good. Not only is there a fairly realistic variation of weapons per army but vehicles as well. As a British SAS soldier you would be more likely to drive a Desert Raider buggy around, whereas if you were an insurgent force you would drive a pickup truck with a turret gun.
Special forces also introduces Grapple hooks and Zip lines. Night Vision on a select few maps, as well as tear gas as a standard weapon with the support kit. (The gas mask becomes critical in those situations.) There are also new maps with special forces, and new vehicles etc.

"Incredibly slow loading times between games" This is absolutely right. Some servers will play a map 2 times then load a new map, the load times occurs between switching maps, so it is wise to play servers that will stick with a few maps with lots of rounds between load times. Some servers play just one map all the time, so there is a very minimal load time. On average it seems to take about 4-5 minutes to load up a game, the games last anywhere between 5 - 40 minutes depending on various factors.

"So, I payed $40 for 2 days worth of pointless gameplay. " This guy obviously didnt put enough time into the game. With a little practice and getting to know the maps/kits/weapons/vehicles, squad/commander tactics im sure he would have found it at least a litte more enjoyable, personally I can't get enough.

Battlefield 2 Review

Battlefield 2
Average Reviews:

I have been playing the Battlefield franchise since the first demo, and have owned Battlefield 2 since its launch circa 2 years ago.Although the series has had its ups and down, (with the pinnacle being the BF1942 modification Desert Combat by Frank Delise and crew), with the recent crop of Battlefield games being mindless cash ins, (ever sine EA bought out DICE games and Trauma Studios).Nevertheless, Battlefield 2 is the best retail version you can currently buy. With that being said, there are several issues with BF2 that have only gotten worse with each subsequent EA/DICE patch which has led to a drastic inbalance in the game, with air power completely dominating in every level, (although there are infantry only levels). When the game first launched, the balance was fairly adequate, and ground troops using mobile AA or the defenses on a carrier could take out a pilot who was repeatedly bombing a spawn point, but that has changed. The only way to actually take out another plane is to be flying in the air, and to dogfight him/her until only one of you is surviving. This leads to several issues that almost have completely ruined a lot of the enjoyment one can experience in Battlefield 2.First, most people camp the planes, (I've seen 8 people camp for an a10, 7 for a j10), and some will force a teamkill on you if you happen to get in the plane before them, (putting your score in certain areas in the negative ).This is incredibly frustrating, and although I understand that jerks are abundant online, I'm surprised a patch doesn't prevent forced tk's.If you enjoy flying, as I do, I recommend joining smaller servers.

When all is said and done though, this is still an excellent game and much better than BF2142 (mostly because of no ads), but you will have to have patience and play on a decent server to gain much enjoyment out of it.Really, I'm only playing it until Quake Wars is released in a month or so.I am certain that the people over at ID Software will pump out yet another quality release that is balanced in every respect, much like Enemy Territory for PC is to this day.I will all but abandon BF2 once Quake Wars comes out, because EA/DICE have pretty much dropped BF2 like a bad habit since their spyware/adware infested BF2142 game came out, (which is completely subpar in every way imaginable).

If you are a new player, then I recommend this pack, (with all of the expansions), but know that you will be at a disadvantage for at least the first 100 hours of play time.Veteran players have a majority of the weapon unlocks, (gained through an experience points system of sorts), and you will not be able to compete in ground combat for the most part, unless you are in a vehicle. As far as system specs go, they are not as demanding as they were 2 years ago, and a medium build machine should run this flawlessly. Finally, if you want to ever be a good pilot, invest in a solid joystick, because you will be a sitting duck with a mouse and keyboard in a jet.I can usually tell who is flying with a mouse/keyboard, and they are always my priority targets.

At the end of the day, this is still a great game, but has been bogged down by a lack of support, major nerfing of infantry weapons (c4 especially), and EA's overall disregard for their player base and for the bottom line.Honestly, as much as I love the Battlefield series, this is my last Battlefield game because I have a lot of disdain for EA due to its ill will towards the community. Also, this is most likely the final Battlefield game that will ever be Ad free/Billboard free.EA/DICE's recent deal with major advertising agencies essentially makes this a sad trend.

Logitech Attack 3 Joystick Review

Logitech Attack 3 Joystick
Average Reviews:

I needed a joystick, nothing fancy just something simple.I bought one that was a little too simple for about $16.I needed ANOTHER one.I found this Logitech Attack 3one, for also $16.The caliber of the LA3 in quality and use is amazing. This joystick is fantastic. The stick itself is spring loaded but feels like it's gliding. The buttons and trigger are all on hair touches making for easy presses. And the throttle is a gliding scroll button that's very smooth and never leaves where you put it.One hand works the stick while the other works the bottom buttons and throttle. If you need a joy stick for some simple flying and dog fighting, (i.e. Star Wars Galaxies: Jump to Lightspeed) then the Logitech Attack 3 is perfect for you.Low price that delivers way more than it should. If you're a "sim" kind of guy then no, don't get this because it's not a sim stick, it's a joy stick, and it will bring you joy.
