Astro A40 Audio System - White Review

Astro A40 Audio System - White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have had my A40 system for about 6 months now, and it's the best purchase I've made in a while. I've tested all the major headsets available, and this one is by far the best. It sounds amazing, it's extremely comfortable to wear, and Astro Gaming is a great manufacturer. It's obvious to me that Astro takes great pride in all of their products, and I highly recommend buying directly from them, rather than amazon.

The Headset:

The headset is very easy to adjust, and fits all headsizes. On both sides of the headset are speaker tags. These tags are detachable, and comes in packs of three. Two solid ones, and one with a hole (for the mic). If you don't need the mic, you can remove the tag with the hole and replace it with a solid one, giving the headset a more symetric look. Astro allows you to upload images and design your own speaker tags, which is great for customizing your headset. The mic is a single boom with no wires. The mic is very high quality, and will attach to both sides of the headset. As far as sound goes, I give the Astros a 9/10. I think the bass could be a little deeper, but I'm not complaining at all.

The Mixamp:

The mixamp is pure genius. There is only one wire going from the headset to the mixamp. If you're playing Xbox, you will also have a wire going from the controller to the mixamp. I strongly suggest that when you buy this system, you get the TOSlink cable for the best possible sound. The mixamp has two knobs on it. The main one is the master volume control. The smaller controls the game sound to voice sound ratio. The mixamp runs of USB power, which is great because the Xbox has two USB ports on it. You can also get 4 AA batteries which will give you 12-14 hours. Astro just released a new version of the mixamp, which now supports use with the PS3 right out of the box.

The cables:

The system comes with tons of cables, allowing you to connect it with just about anything. It includes a cable to plug your headset into a headphone jack and a mic jack, a cable to plug your headset into a headphone jack, and a few other cables that I have never used. Astro makes sure that you have all of the tools necessary to maximize your headset.

Customer Support:

My headset got a short in the wiring a couple months after purchase. Astro responded quickly to my emails, fixed the headset in about 3 days, and got it back to me just over a week after it broke. They clearly care about customer satisfaction.

Astro Gaming:

Astro offers many accessories and replacement parts for the A40 system. If you have any gaming needs, Astro probably has something just for it. You can also download product manual on their site before making any purchases.

I love my A40 system, and as soon as Astro comes out with a new model, I'll be grabing that one as well. Hopefully it will be wireless.

Creative Labs EF0210 Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset with Sound Blaster X-Fi Technology (Black) Review

Creative Labs EF0210 Fatal1ty USB Gaming Headset with Sound Blaster X-Fi Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start by saying I am a hardcore mmo player. Anyone else who plays mmo's know that large guilds communicate through voice chat programs like Ventrillo (and similar). I myself use mostly ventrillo these days anymore. The testing that I did with this device was largely with guild mates of mine telling me how it sounds and how it performed from their end hearing me.

Right after I installed the software I tested these out on ventrillo. With literally zero tweaking time.. they sounded perfect. My voice was very loud and extremely clear. The music sounded great in the headphones. What more could I ask for.. they were trouble free! The best part was the microphone didn't need to be shoved against my lips for people to hear me speak. I have bought wired usb headsets in the past that required the mic to be so close it was annoying to use. This you can keep the mic 2-3 inches away from your mouth and it still sounds loud and clear (great little mic on this headset)

My only annoyance with these headphones is the tight headband. I have been told before I have a big head, but I thought they were being sarcastic! I am joking of course but they do fit snug and almost hurt a bit after a little while of use (*laughing* and I am pretty sure I have a normal size head!). Perhaps over time these headphones will loosen up and get more comfortable. I did of course try to outwardly flex the headband to loosen it but its all plastic so it didn't really work like it would have if it was metal. I still gave this product a 5 star rating, but I would knock off a 1/2 star for this tightness if I could.

The little microphone plugs in and out of the headphones in case you want to use these as pure headphones. I also assume if the mic boom ever fails over time you could more easily replace it being that its designed like this (I have had wires fail inside of headphone mic booms from years of over bending, so this is handy to be able to replace it so easily).

Lastly, these are "on ear" headphones .. not "around ear" headphones. So you will feel them sitting on top of your ear not go wide around the outside of your ears. The internet is hard to judge the sizes of products for things like this so I just wanted to let people know what to expect. The felt pad on headphones ear muffs are very soft and well cushioned so this shouldn't be a problem of comfort with most users.

Overall I am very pleased with this product. When I want to use a great working/great sounding plug and play headset I am now grabbing this for some long gaming sessions.

Steel Series SteelSound 5H V2 Headset ( 20065 ) Review

Steel Series SteelSound 5H V2 Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Now, to start off I got this item when it was 60% off which was a major selling point for me. I was a little apprehensive. I was torn between the icemats or this. I'm really glad I got this however.

The thing I like most about it is it's amazing sound quality. I am often tricked while gaming into thinking the sounds I hear from the headphones are actually coming from my room. The headset is unbelievably comfortable. Often times I wear it for hours at a time and forget I even have them on. The microphone is another main reason I bought this item. I play with a group of friends when gaming and we all like to talk to each other through vent. There is nothing more annoying than a distorted voice or noise. I'm always being commented on how clear I sound. The ability to take it apart into 3 pieces seems to have payed off while traveling. It ensures me that they won't snap in half or anything like that. The ability to hide the microphone is great as well. I don't like detached microphones so i wanted a headset with one built in and when I'm not using it to talk to anybody I can just hide it and it's virtually invisible.

My least favorite thing about this headset is that everyone around me can hear what I'm listening to. This only tends to happen when I'm blasting noise into my head though. It's not that big of a deal however because I don't turn it up that loud often anyway. In case you were wondering it doesn't create an echo through the microphone.

Overall I give this thing a 5/5 with only one flaw that I have noticed. Great quality sound, very comfortable, and a great quality microphone. If you're wondering if you should buy these I would definitely recommend it.

Astro A40 Audio System - Black Review

Astro A40 Audio System - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had these headphone for about 4-6 months now, and they are spectacular! I should mention that for Xbox 360 havingA40 MixAmp is aknist a plus as it allows you to adjust for Game and audio volume, so you can find the perfect balance for you. Now I'm going to break it down into pros and cons.

PROS:
Very comfortable to wear...I've had these on for upwards of 6 hours at a time for long gaming sessions, and have had no problems with comfort.

DURABLE...These are solidly constructed and have never felt like I was in danger or them wearing out (granted it's only been about 6 months)

Sound Quality is very very good. With the MixAmp you get very accurate positional Audio so it makes gaming that much better (it even works well with movies too)

Microphone...top notch microphone, that also detaches so you can just use them as regular headphones, and it comes with a quick mute switch so u can quickly turn off your mic for a private conversation if need be. Only caveat is that the noise canceling could be better, but it's not really an issue in the grand scheme.

Cables...the audio system comes with pretty much every audio cable you could ever need (minus fiber optic game, which is an option to purchase) so that, to me, is a plus.

PS3 compatibility, yes it works with the PS3 as well, and sounds fantastic when watching Blu-Ray movies.

MixAmp. The mixamp can also be used a headphone amp for your PC, or iPod, and the results are impressive. It's also portable as it has the option for battery power that lasts for roughly 12-14 hours using 4 AA batteries.

CONS

Price, Yes these are expensive, and cheaper from Astro Gaming directly, but I've used them so much that, to me, they were worth it

Music...Now I've put this in the cons but there's a catch. If you plan on using these for music from your 360 or PS3, well it;'s not gonna sound that good, but to me Music doesn't sound that good on 360. However, I use these on my computer as I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi, and after some tweaking, the music is fantastic on them, good base, and excellent treble. Having Said that, getting high quality stereo headphones will still be a Better choice for music, but again these sound great to me.

Edimensional Audiofx Gaming Headset Review

Edimensional Audiofx Gaming Headset
Average Reviews:

This headset is an absolute must for any hardcore gamer, especially if you play any of your games online.I have found these headphones to be superior not just to all of the cheap lightweight headsets on the market, but to other pure headphones that I have tried as well. The sound quality is excellent, so much that I can hear little details with these headphones that I can't hear otherwise. The vibration feature is everything that it is advertised to be and more. It's one of those things that I don't want to live without now when I play my games. It can be overpowering if you turn it up too high, but if you fine tune it, it adds a subtle layer of intensity to any first person shooter or any game with lots of explosions or heavy sounds. The microphone is too short, but I haven't had any problems with it.It's a little bit like using a cell phone.

My only problem with these headphones is that the durability isn't what I would have hoped for.I am on my third set in about three years, but I would never buy anything else.I have never come close to finding anything else that augments my gaming experience like these headphones, and if you are still in doubt, I highly recommend them.

Ear Force DPX21 PS3 Headset and 5.1/7.1 Channel Dolby Surround Sound Review

Ear Force DPX21 PS3 Headset and 5.1/7.1 Channel Dolby Surround Sound
Average Reviews:

This pair of headphones has a truly spectacular frequency response range.Despite the fact these are headphones, you will FEEL the bass reverberating between your ears! The fact that these work with pretty much any audio source you'll run across from stereo analog input to digital fiber optic is pretty sweet.

I've owned many headphones.Be it from cheap stereo to "pseudo-surround", such as the Plantronics Gamecom (pseudo-surround) and I even have a pair of the mid-line SHURE headphones (they have reasonable bass response), this pair will blow them away.

Sound is crisp in the mid/high range as well. For the price, you certainly won't be dissappointed! If you're a SHURE headphone fan, these will really impress you.

The only downside to these are the MASSIVE amount of cables that accompany them. It's not that there's many, it's just that they're really LONG (which is GREAT in most cases!)...Just remember you're going to have to bundle them if you're going to use them on your PC (as I do) so they aren't strewn across your entire desk.

Overall, best headphone purchase I've made to date.Turtle Beach really knows their audio!

Ear Force DSS 7.1 Channel Dolby Surround Sound Processor Review

Ear Force DSS 7.1 Channel Dolby Surround Sound Processor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you are traveling, and you need something that can handle optical 7.1 channel audio, this is a fine item to bring along. It's a little smaller than a pack of smokes and can be run off of a usb to ac adapter. I live in a small apartment in Japan, so I don't have space for a huge sound system. Also, I suffer from insomnia, and sometimes I want to play a game or watch a movie late at night. This gadget allows me to hook up some good headphones and enjoy my movies and games without being a pain to my roommates or neighbors.

It's also worth noting that the surround sound, even on standard headphones, is remarkably well-done. I have been testing it with Metal Gear Solid 4 on my ps3, which I connected to the unit with an optical cable. I'm hearing things I never noticed before in the game, and I really can sense the location of enemies and other things by sound alone with this device.

I think audiophiles would prefer other DACs for listening to cds or lossless music, but if you want a surround sound system that can fit in your pocket or go with you on a trip, or want to be able to listen to surround sound without disturbing your neighbors or flatmates, this is what you've been waiting for.

My only other suggestion is to use good headphones with this unit. It'll work with whatever you hook into it, but better headphones will reveal the high-quality bass, mid, and treble sound that this unit produces.

The Ear Force DSS 7.1 channel Dolby surround sound processor transforms any stereo headset into full, immersive surround sound for playing Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or PC games and watching movies with Blu-ray or DVD players. It works with any set of stereo headphones and is the perfect complement to the Turtle Beach Ear Force series of stereo gaming headsets (X31, X11, XLC, Z1, Z2 and PX21). The optical digital input easily connects to a game console or media player for Dolby 7.1 channel surround sound and the analog input can also be used to upgrade analog stereo audio sources to Dolby Pro Logic IIx for virtual surround sound. A bass boost control adds sub-woofer effects for enhanced realism to any audio source. With the Ear Force DSS, video game and movie fans will be able to hear distinct audio events happening all around them, greatly enhancing the overall experience and rewarding gamers with a newfound competitive edge. DSS users playing games and watching movies on their game consoles will actually hear the 7.1 surround sound from certain 5.1 channel audio tracks via additional 'hidden' channels called Dolby EX.

Logitech G35 7.1-Channel Surround Sound Headset Review

Logitech G35 7.1-Channel Surround Sound Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These headphones are a lot of fun.

I'm not a gamer - can't play many games because I get dizzy, but I am sort of a collector of headphones.Frankly, I expected these to be awful and was more than pleasantly surprised to find that they are really quite good.

OK, so they look like some kind of boy toy science fiction gizmo. For me, I could do without all the buttons. But having a volume button on the headphone and a mute for the mic is very useful.

Most headphones depend upon the right combination of source and headphone to get a good sound. If you plug most high end headphones directly into your ipod or computer soundcard the sound quality is atrocious. The right mate of source and sound can mean that the right $20 headphone in your ipod can give surprisingly good sound if it is a good match.

The good (and the bad) of a USB headset is that it bypasses the amp in your computer soundcard.Instead, the digital to audio processing occurs through USB.This approach can allow very high quality sound, and in the case of this headset, it succeeds.

As to sound quality.I am impressed with the surround sound where normally I find surround unbearably processed and artificial, the software does a good job. With the surround sound turned off, and these headphones are in pure stereo mode, forget it, it's awful. But that isn't what these headphones are for.Bass is excellent with good low extension and not even the slightest touch of boominess.Artifical bass enhancement is one of the things I hate about most processed sound, and I was delighted to find that none was present.Logitech is to be commended for making that choice in the design because most people equate sloppy boomy bass with high quality (think car stereo woofer).

The mid range is outstanding. That's where the sound really excels.I have a few very high end headphones where the midrange is weak. With these headphones subtleties of tone and shading in human voices are easy to hear.

The high end of the sound spectrum is the weakness of the sound signature.Lost highs are the big price for processed sound.Imagine a bell ringing. After the bell rings the sound hangs in the air and slowly fades. When the highest highs are lost, and the sound is processed, the sound gets artifically cut off and the "air" is gone from the sound. At the present state of technology this seems to be unavoidable in all processed sound. The good news with this headset is that this loss of highs is not too horribly bad.I could listen to music (which is not what these are for) and it was not too distracting. The offset was the beautiful mids and the realistic sound stage.

Listening to movies, other than gaming, is where this headset excels. This is where location of sound can make a huge difference, and the ambiant sounds contribute to the experience.Watching a movie with these headset while sitting right in front of my computer screen is immersive and exciting.I can imagine that in games, where location of sounds is critical, that these would greatly enhance the experience and give the player an extra edge.

Finally, they are pretty comfortable. The choice of cushioning is very appreciated.

My partner and I both want to use them.I was given these to review but I might have to buy another set.The price, when you consider that it includes the digital audio converter and amplification, is very reasonable for a headset of this quality.

Razer Carcharias Gaming Headset (Black) Review

Razer Carcharias Gaming Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I must admit I was a bit put off by the price of this gaming headset and the lack of features.Other PC headsets such as the Logitech G35 and Senn's PC350 were priced more but came with more features and of course, a bigger brand name. But when it comes down to gaming and listening to music, you aren't really asking for a lot.The Razer Carcharias delivers what one would need to enjoy listening to music, and of course, long comfortable gaming sessions.

Out of the box, the Carcharias seems pretty normal, perhaps even a bit cheaply made.Padding is placed in appropriate places, including the headband and loudspeakers. The padding is exceptionally soft, especially around the loudspeakers where the material is felt-like.The thin plastic that covers part of the headphones may seem flimsy, but is very light.A nice mesh around the headphones is also present, and also takes away a bit of weight.A nice part of the construction is the wire that connects the speakers to the headband. It is not only quite sturdy, but also gives some range of motion without compromising that integrity.Speaking of wires, the cable for the headset itself is very lengthy (nine feet) and is braided in fiber. The mic is sturdy itself and can be turned 270 degrees. It is also bendable at the midsection to some degree.

No sense praising the construction if it isn't even comfortable, and this is the part where the Carcharias excels at.Placing these headphones on for the first time felt amazing, as if it was conforming to the shape of my head.Of course, I felt this way about many headphones at first, so naturally I decided to start up a few games (which easily lasted several hours), after which I listened to a few hours of music while studying. There was absolutely no discomfort at all after all that time. The lightweight construction and circumaural design is a real blessing to the ears. The headphones themselves are also very easy to adjust.

The audio quality for these headphones is quite exceptional, enough to justify wearing these headphones for hours. As probably mentioned, audiophiles may want to look elsewhere, but for the casual listener, the quality is more than good enough.Although the bass is quite deep ("boomy"), it does not overwhelm the treble. The highs for this headphones can be quite distinct (ie loud), and since the volume can go quite high on this thing, may be overwhelming sometimes.Much of this is perfectly suited to games, especially first-person shooters.Keep in mind that this headset does not provide surround sound, and never was intended to.You can take a look at the aforementioned models for that.

The noise-filtering mic for this headset works well.I tested it with Ventrilo, Skype, and Left 4 Dead, and others could hear me very well, with a noticeable lack of background noise from my side.I should note that I had the mic at its default positioning (no additional bending). It can be adjusted to be a bit closer or further.

Overall, the Razer Carcharias does its job as a gaming headset very well.I consider it Razer's best headset in terms of price vs performance; a step above the Mako, and better than the Barracuda and Megalodon.I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys long gaming sessions and listening to music. The comfort along with its exceptional audio quality and mic justifies the pricing; just don't expect any extra features.

Side note: I also think the name for this headset is awesome. As someone who's interested in cartilaginous fishes, I don't think they could have picked a better name.

Ear Force X41 (XBOX LIVE Chat + Wireless Digital RF Game Audio with Dolby Headphone 7.1 Surround Sound) Review

Ear Force X41
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Some readers may remember me from my X4 review. Here we are a little over a year later and I am once again tearing into the box of a shiny new pair of Turtle Beach headphones. I liked the X4s, so why did I invest another $200 on the X41s? Because the X4s had some issues, common issues included sound glitches at certain frequencies (press the B button in Shadowrun), interference from other IR sources (like the Wii sensor bar), and a noticeable hiss when using the voice function. These issues did not ruin the X4s, in fact they were still one of the best gaming centric headphones, and THE best wireless gaming headphones, but the issues could be annoying. Thankfully, the X41s claim to fix everything wrong with the X4s and add some new features to boot. Do they live up to the hype or have hidden issues?

For the rest of my review I will be doing some comparison to the X4 in every aspect of these X41 headphones, as well as comparing them to the other options available. I may leave out some details that I already covered in my X4 review, if something doesn't make sense or you would like more detail check my X4 review to see if I covered it there. In this review I will mostly be pointing out what has changed from X4 to X41. Finally, I personally own 6 pairs of gaming headphones, from the aging AX360 to the Astro A40 and X4. I will be giving my opinion of the X41s performance compared to my experience with most of the other competitors on the market.

Headphone design and feel:
The X41s really shine in this area, like the X4s they are extremely light and comfortable. In addition, they have added a new type of breathable fabric to the pads which keeps your ears cool and comfortable through hours of play. They have also increased the size of the space for your ears. The end result is headphones that are easy to forget exist. The headphones are well built in every other respect. The Bass boost switch is now a button, the headset is black rather than grey, most of the other changes in this area are minor. The X41s are an improvement over the X4s and one of the most comfortable of all the headsets I have used.

Audio Quality:
One of the big draws of the X41s is the new DigitalRF which claims to increase sound quality while decreasing interference and hiss. This claim is completely factual; the X41s have excellent sound that rivals even top level wired headsets. In addition, the X41s have fixed all of the X4s sound glitches, no more will you hear disturbing static or interference when a certain frequency is played. In my experience the X41s reproduce the game sound perfectly without any degradation from being wireless.

On the other hand the extremely low level hiss is still present in the X41s, though perhaps even quieter than the X4 ambient hiss. As I said in my X4 review this constant hiss is impossible to hear if any game sound is playing, and is probably mostly amp noise created by the 50mm speakers an inch from your ear. It is nearly impossible to engineer something like the X41s and completely remove this type of hiss. Thankfully, the X41s do remove the increased hiss when using voice chat that was present on the X4 headset. With the X41s you cannot tell the difference between having the voice chat hooked up and not using it. With the X4s as soon as you plugged in voice chat the normally unobtrusive hiss would double or triple in volume and become quite noticeable. This is a pretty major improvement for the X41s, as the hiss while using voice chat was a common complaint of the X4s.

The X41s have also enhanced their Dolby DSP to handle up to 7.1 surround sound and PL2X. This is not as noticeable as the Digital RF but it is an improvement. The excellent surround sound from the X4s is made even better, and it is even easier to pinpoint exactly where a sound is coming from. The surround sound here is really fantastic, don't believe the hype about "true 5.1" headsets that have multiple speakers in each ear, this Dolby processing creates a better surround sound experience. In addition, because there is only 1 speaker per ear the speakers are much larger which makes the excellent audio quality possible. Comparing the X41s to my Tritton headsets is really one sided, the X41s are hands down better in every way when it comes to audio quality. Bottom line, 2 great speakers and Dolby Processing is far better than 8 tiny speakers.

The short version here is that the X41s are a worthy improvement in terms of audio quality. They have fixed essentially all of the major problems the X4s had and added some new features as well. The X41s perform very well when compared to wired headsets also, for the same price you could not find a 5.1 headset with better audio quality than the X41s, and the X41s are wireless.

Other Features:
The X41s don't change very much in this category from the X4s. You still get the excellent voice chat implementation, which will balance voice and game audio so that you can always hear everything clearly. As I already mentioned the noticeable hiss while using voice chat has been removed, so that is a major improvement here.

One notable change to the X41s is the new talkback cable that is now free of the puck. This new cable is simply 2 standard mic connections with volume control and mic mute on a little box in the middle of the wire. This cable uses heavier wire than the old X4 cable, and seems like it will resist the rigors of use more efficiently. In addition, because they did away with the puck the X41s are now compatible with any headset connection. This means with the right USB adapter and cables the X41 voice chat can be used with a PS3 or PC as well as the Xbox 360. This is really a pretty awesome addition, and one that is not touted on the box.

The X41s also have a headset jack for a wired headset with its own volume control. This headset receives all the Dolby Processing and the same sound the wireless one receives. This is nifty if you want to have multiple people listening to the same audio on headphones, and is a better option than the X4s "buy another $100 headset" approach.

The X41s are now powered via a USB cable, which you can hook to your Xbox or any other powered USB port. Not sure if I find this positive or negative, but it is a change from the X4s.

Overall:
The X41s are a worthy improvement over the X4s. The decision to upgrade is something each individual will have to consider, but if some of the X4s flaws or glitches have been bothering you the X41 does a great job of solving those issues. In addition, the X41s add a lot of great features, from Digital RF to the new talkback cable. These features make an already excellent headset even better. As far as gaming headsets go the X41s are among the best. The implementation of voice chat is second to none, and since the X41s eliminated the loud hiss found during voice chat on the X4s, this feature is nearly perfect. The sound quality is excellent, and the Digital RF really does rival wired headsets, and is completely free of audio glitches. You no longer need line of site, and the signal seems very robust and interference free even around multiple wireless networks. The X41s are also significantly more comfortable than the X4s, and the new fabric for the ear pads makes a noticeable positive difference in keeping your ears cool and comfy. In the end, for anyone looking for a gaming headset that incorporates voice and surround sound, the X41s get my unwavering recommendation. They really are the best gaming headphones available right now.

I have rated the X41s 5 out of 5 stars, compared with the X4s 4 out of 5 stars. I would not say the X41s are perfect, just surprisingly close.

Update (Roughly a year later): After a year of using the X41's, with hundreds, or perhaps thousands of hours of play across all platforms. I just want to reaffirm that I still think they are an amazing pair of headphones, and the best wireless sound solution for gamers. A few things that I have noticed in the last year.

First, when the batteries die the headphones often make a violent crackling screech noise (for perhaps a second, very short). This is annoying, not something I find bad enough to reduce the score, but I hope in the next iteration Turtle Beach fixes this, even if it means I get 30 minutes less battery life. I would rather the headphones beeped at me when the battery was low, or perhaps some indicator on the base station could show when the batteries are getting down there. Then when it got critical just make the headphones power off gracefully, rather than dying in a screech and crackle of rage.

Second, they are actually susceptible to interference from 802.11G wireless. In general they work great, but if you position stuff such that some wireless device (be it a router or a wireless client) is closer to you than the base station you can get interference. In general this is easy to fix, for instance I put my wireless devices on the opposite side of the TV from the base station and interference is a thing of the past. It is something to be aware of though, depending on your situation, especially in an apartment or dorm with tons of wireless everywhere, you could have trouble avoiding interference. To fix this perhaps Turtle Beach will switch to the 6 Ghz spectrum and use something similar to DECT. This would increase range, and should completely eliminate interference.

Finally, a quick tip on hooking these up. I found that the best way to hook the headphones up to any modern TV was to plug the X41 power USB cable into the USB slot on the TV (generally used for displaying pictures or similar features). Then use the Optical out on the TV as the connection to the X41 base station. Then you just plug all your devices in with HDMI cables...Read more›

Product Description:
The X41 is the third generation of wireless headsets from Turtle Beach for the Xbox 360.The X41 combines XBOX live chat with wireless game sound so you can hear the game sound and the voices of other players in the headset. That means you don't need your XBOX communicator headset or external speakers. By hearing the XBOX Live chat in the center of your head rather than in one ear, you can communicate better online. By eliminating speakers you can turn up the game without disturbing others. And, by having the game sound right on top of your ears, you can hear even the softest sound cues that are impossible to pick up with speakers.Better yet, because of the Dolby surround sound, you can also tell where the sound is coming from. That's because unlike stereo headphones, where the sound is either to the left or right of you, the X41 has 7.1 channel surround sound that lets you pinpoint the exact direction of every sound cue in the game. So if someone is quietly sneaking up behind you, you'll know it instantly. You can turn around, react faster and take them out before they take you out. It's actually like having a secret weapon because it gives you a significant edge over the competition. The X41 uses digital 2.4 Giga Hertz Radio Frequency wireless technology as compared to the X4 which used an analog infra red light beam. This new digital RF technology is a huge improvement over analog IR because it delivers CD-quality sound with no background hiss, no interference from plasma TV screens and no line of sight restrictions between the transmitter and headset. The X41 uses a proprietary uncompressed digital signal with super low latency for dramatic improvement in sound quality. The bass is deeper with more kick. The highs are so crisp and clean that you can hear a pin drop. There's also a headphone jack and volume control on the transmitter. This lets you connect a wired headset, like our Ear Force X1 or Ear Force XLC.

....then you absolutely have to have this. The sound quality and the ability to adjust the different volumes is outstanding. I play Call of Duty about 90% of the time online and this just makes the entire online experience better. I use to get into games with kids making annoying noises etc. Now with the push of a finger I don't have to listen to it but I can still hear the game perfectly. In fact, a buddy and me went into a private match on shipment. I could hear him from across the map setting up claymore's, pulling grenade pins, moving and even swiping his knife. The only negative thing I have to say about this headset is that it's not wireless but I am sure that would add quite a lot of money to the price. They are also extremely light and comfortable and .................................................You know what, stop reading this and just go buy a set of these already.

Sharkoon X-Tatic SP Gaming Headset Review

Sharkoon X-Tatic SP Gaming Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When i started to shop around for a gaming headset, i mostly heard about two main brands: Turtle Beach and Triton. Many people say that you can't go wrong with either. But, while shopping around, I came across Sharkoon. There really isn't much online in regards to this headset, so i figured i would check out their higher-end headset.(The X-Tatic 5.1 with surround sound)This headset received fantastic reviews across the boards.I figured if the company made quality headsets, i would check out the x-tatic sp...even without any reviews online. And i am not disappointed.

What made me reluctant to go with the Turtle Beach PX21 headset is how it looked. It was not very sexy. The Triton AX-180 looked nice, but it was $80. Since the x-tatic sp was $10 cheaper, i figured i would check them out.Not only is the sound excellent and crisp, but the headset is extremely comfortable and is continuously comfortable for long periods of time (which is important for a gaming headset). My brother has the Triton AXPROs and he loved this headset.(for those of you who don't know, the AXPROs have surround sound and are the top of the line Tritons)Why spend more than double the money to get surround sound when you can get a great sounding headset at this price range? And, for those of you who doubt the price of a stereo gaming headset, it is totally worth the price.I have never used one before while gaming...and it makes a total difference.People aren't lying when they say they hear things they didn't hear before. Its true! When you run by trees/brush you hear the rustle as you run by.You hear footsteps.Gun fire and other sounds help you locate where the shots are being fired so you can find the enemy.Even without a 5.1 surround sound headset (which really only refers to the amount of speakers in the ear cup to produce that surround sound feeling) you hear the sounds as if you were in the middle of the action.Shooting games just feel like they were made to be played with a headset like this.

So, if you are in the market for a stereo gaming headset, i can't knock the Turtle Beachs or Tritons, but i can definitely say that these would not disappoint.Great sound quality and comfortability...all you need in a gaming headset!

Logitech Gaming Headset G330 (Black) Review

Logitech Gaming Headset G330
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With the G330, Logitech delivers a comfortable headset with surprisingly high sound quality.I would definitely recommend this product provided you're willing the spend the cash, which is considerably high for a wired headset.

I suppose I'll discuss the comfort first since that seems to be the major marketing point for this product. This is the first set of behind-the-head headphones I have ever seen that are adjustable. It seems like an obvious addition, but a welcome one.Now even people with bigger heads (like me) can look at "one-size-fits-all" and actually believe it.For me, the major issues effecting these behind-the-ear type headsets is the tightness and sharpness where they hang on your ears.Logitech seems to have nailed down both of those flaws. The tightness is adjustable and the hook around your ear is not even noticeable. All I feel while wearing these is the foam on my ears, which is soft.In addition, the ear pieces pivot slightly to take into account different types of ears. So, without a doubt this is the most comfortable headset (or behind-the-ear headphones) I have ever worn.

Now onto usage. The cord from the headset has a control box to allow for volume control and muting. On the control box is a belt-clip for attaching to clothing. It's light enough that if it's dangling, you probably won't notice it.Down from there on the cord, you'll find a velcro strap for neatly storing the wires -- a nice touch. And finally, the output plugs. These are 2 stereo jacks with embedded, color-coated labels for each to let you know that one is for the headphones and one is for the microphone. With these jacks, you can plug them into your sound card. But, like me, you'll probably want to use the provided USB adapter. The jacks plug into the adapter and then you plug that into a USB port.Windows (I'm using Windows 7 RTM) will immediately recognize this as a sound device, so there must be some kind of sound card type logic within the USB adapter (which is why I suspect the price is so high by the way).By default Windows will make this your default sound device so you will hear all your game audio through the headphones and all the voices through your PC speakers, which is the exact opposite of what I wanted. But with some simple changes to the sound devices in windows, you can swap that around so the game audio goes through your speakers and the voices go through your headset. You will likely also need to configure whatever game software you're using to work that way as well. Both Steam and Games for Windows Live allow you to do this.Just go into settings and select the G330 sound device for voice input and output, then select your audio card for game audio (music and SFX) output.

Now, had the audio configuration never defaulted to the G330 being my default audio device, I might not have had a chance to experience the sound quality that comes out of these bad boys.I have a 5.1 surround sound system, but if I didn't, I would be glad to use these for my main gaming audio device. They really sound tremendous.I was very surprised to hear that kind of quality audio coming from these little headphones. It's a very full sound, and loud without distortion. The microphone is also top quality.I recorded my voice and played it back to hear how it sounded. It was clear and defined -- definitely better than what I'm used to with Xbox Live headsets.

About Xbox Live... my only bad point about these. There is no adapter to turn them into a mono headset for use with Xbox Live.I tried buying a cheap splitter to turn the 2 3.5mm stereo jacks into 1 2.5mm stereo jack, but the adapter was a splitter and ended up combining the signals into a choppy output. So, you definitely need some kind of special adapter.I don't know if Logitech sells it or not.

So, other than that, these are top notch.I definitely recommend.Another fine product by Logitech.

PulseWave 2 Premium PC Gaming Headset Review

PulseWave 2 Premium PC Gaming Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So I've owned and still own a lot of gaming headsets for the pc, as I am a heavy pc gamer. FPS, RTS, mmorpg, you name it. Also the robust listener in music and I watch my share of movies through netflix on my pc.

I look for quality in a headset. This, I mean a headset that can do fairly well in all aspects. I don't want a headset that is pure bass, or a headset with a faulty component (I've had too many shares of faulty microphones, speakers, cables, usb, driver issues, etc.)

Now, I am giving my feedback on this headset based on currently owning a logitech g35, steelseries siberia v2 with usb sound card, creative fatality hs1000, plantronics 367, and razer carcharias.

Obviously, teknmotion isn't as well know as the brands above. But it isn't a non-existent company. It has its fair share of consumers, and the pulsewave is a pretty popular headset. The version 2 is just a revised version, but nothing major. I'm not sure what they revised to begin with, but checking out reviews of version 1, I can't find a difference.

So first of all, people with windows 7, 64 bit, this works perfectly. no driver issues. put in the cd, put in the headset, and your good to go.

this part is where people criticize headsets quite often. This headset is definitely not flimsy whatsoever. The mic is detachable, but the boom is not super thin, and the area around where the ports plug in are reinforced with athicker covering, so no need to be scared of removing and attaching the mic often. (personally, I just keep it on, and swing it up when not in use)

comfort: i'm gonna say that the comfort is good, not the best, but definitely doesn't kill your ears like some headsets i've worn. I've worn for 6 hours straight. And although my ears did get somewhat tender, It's not the *painful* when you wear it kind of tender. I only realized it when I actually removed the headset. The top of my head had NO NO NO discomfort whatsoever, so don't worry about the headband.

Sound: Sound is great, let me just say that. I'm not talking in an audiophiles perspective. But for the gamer, or the casual music listener, and for watching movies. Wow, sound is great. Loud, Clear, no static on highs, bass is AMAZING!! and also you can set levels for the headset to vibrate if you'd like (during bass-y moments)- About the flashing lights, yes, you can set it to flash lights. However, it's not super disco flashy, it's adequate. OR you can just turn off the lights altogether, no biggy (there is a switch on the in-line controller)

-the material of the ear cups are that of a synthetic leather, but they appear to be quite durable, and comfortable. Those of you worrying about sweat in ears. I didn't experience any sweat after 6 hours, so don't worry about that.

-Mic is very very responsive. I had to actually lower my skype mic volume to 30% because I was loud. No static heard from the other party from vent, skype, in-game from windows live gaming. Very adjustable, also.

-cable is a little over 6 feet which is more than adequate for me, and hopefully for any pc users, unless you have a pc connected to a huge hdtv, then 6 feet may not be long enough.

All in all, for 52 bucks (amazon has the cheapest price), this is a VERY good buy. I would give it a 9/10. for an overall headset, and 10/10 for its price.

Personally, I see no flaws. It's not the greatest or best headset, but in terms of actual flaws, I see none at all. If you don't have at least 100 bucks to spend on a headset, I'd recommend getting these. If you have a hundred dollars, I recommend the logitech g35 or the steelseries siberia v2.

if you have 150, I recommend the seinheisser gaming headset (150 on amazon only)

Sennheiser PC 350 Collapsible Gaming Headset with Vol Control & Microphone Mute Review

Sennheiser PC 350 Collapsible Gaming Headset with Vol Control & Microphone Mute
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned a few headsets in the past 10 years, including Logitech, Altec Lansing, Sony (without a microphone) and a lower model Sennheiser about 5 years ago.I am an avid computer gamer and often go late into the night at stretches of 8 hours at a time or more. And this is the best headset I've ever used in almost everyway.

First impressions on removing it from the packaging (which I had no trouble with, following the directions on the box) were of durability and a solid build. It's well put together, nothing seems flimsy or cheap, but its also surprisingly lightweight. The wire is quite heavy duty, unlike the Altec Lansing and Logitech headsets I previously owned. Not to mention robust strain relief where the wire connects to the headset, the control pod, and the jacks.

The control pod is perfectly positioned and lightweight, so even if it's dangling you don't even feel it, unlike the bulky control pods on some other headsets. In terms of fit, the ears swivel almost 45 degrees in each direction, and extend from the head-bar with solid clicking intervals. The headbar and ears are both covered in comfortable velor padding which unlike faux-leather on my previous altec lansings, don't cause your skin to sweat and stick to it.The earpieces swivel slightly in and out, and if you push firmly on them they will collapse inward with a snap - don't be afraid, it just prevents them from collapsing on accident, which I was concerned about when I saw them folded inward in the pictures.

They collapse solidly but will not do so by themselves. The microphone is adjustable, but not overly so - you have to bend it firmly to adjust the position and it won't bounce back on its own.It descends down from its perch vertically along the headset with a moderate degree of resistance, so it won't flop up or down on its own.And if you want to move it halfway up and leave it there, it won't flop back down, unlike my old headset, which either had to be all the way up or down.Hopefully it stays this way.

In terms of comfort, its extraordinary. Many headsets I've owned claimed to be circumaural, meaning they surround you ears and don't sit on them or in them. But most either never intended to actually follow through on that promise or they are made for people with ears the size of quarters.Even my old Sennheisers sat right on my ears, and my Altec Lansings, while a very nice headset, had padding large enough to go around my ears, but the speakers inside the earphones themselves pressed up against my ears, which became extremely uncomfortable after periods of time.

These earphones are ACTUALLY circumaural. The padding surrounds your ears but never touches them. The only pressure is on your actual head; your ears are never in contact with anything. The velor is soft and the pressure is almost unnoticeable. At first they seemed a bit tight but a little adjustment of the head-bar and a couple hours and they seem to break in a bit. the velor padding on the head-bar rests gently on the top of your head and the whole thing seems to distribute the weight of the headset evenly so you barely feel it.

Now for sound - Everyone knows Sennheiser is one of the premier names in sound quality, and these are no disappointment. Now these are probably not the headset you want if you're just listening to music in a studio or something - but for a combination of a microphone and comfort and audio quality, I doubt there's any better at this price.I began by watching a DVD of Band of Brothers on my computer. At first I thought something was wrong! It sounded like there was some kind of noise coming from somewhere else besides the DVD, when I realized I was hearing things I've never even before heard on my speaker system!

Every sound, especially the mid's and high's are exceptionally clear and sharp. And for a headset that is not a 5.1 headset, the directionality of the sound is amazing. Some here have complained that the base is not heavy enough, but honestly, if you want to have more base than this, you're not looking for audio quality and accuracy, you're just looking for ridiculous base. The base was excellent and sharp, not booming or echoing.Explosions sounded realistic and surprising, without any buzzing or crackling. For sound quality, these are better than my Klipsch Promedia speaker system, and that's saying something.

These also have a closed headset design, and I was initially worried about the sweaty-ear syndrome from this type of headset, but I was suprised and happy to find that after 4 hours, I didn't experience any overheating or sweating of my ears.Maybe in the summertime that would change, but if anything the headset just got more comfortable over that time.

The microphone quality, while it is hard for me to tell myself, I've been told it's excellent, although I had to turn my gain up a bit on my microphone, because apparently its a bit quieter because of the filter on it.

My only con with this set of headphones is the cord I think could be a bit longer, but that's not a big deal, for me anyways. Also, I think a carrying bag might be nice to go with these headphones.

Overall, if you're looking for a headset with superb audio quality, comfort, durability, longevity, and a high quality microphone, not to mention incredibly stylish looks and a classic and understated appearance, you CANNOT go wrong with these for the price.Forget the 5.1 channel headsets with bulky, powered control pods for surround sound and brightly colored headsets, get this one for a lifetime of quality and enjoyment.
