CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB ( 200-615 ) Review

CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
See my full review with photos on my website (look it up by my name).
OPERATION: I used the CH Products Flight Sim Yoke with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 A Century of Flight. Flight Simulator immediately recognized the yoke at startup and already had all the buttons mapped. I changed them to my preferences using the setup panel in FS. On my first flight I noticed that the elevator was really jumping around. It wouldn't stay where I put it! I really thought the yoke was broken. Then a very distant memory began to emerge from my checkered past. I recalled that I still had my old Gameport joystick plugged in...problem solved. These USB devices do not work with Gameport devices.

The yoke felt very much like the Cessna's that I fly (C172R), albeit a bit lighter weight. The resistance was a little surprising, very stiff, which is good for cross country flying. It took a little getting used to the button locations, especially the hat switch, but after a few hours it falls right into my grasp. Having an 8-position hat switch sure makes the landing pattern easier to fly, and with all the buttons on the yoke I don't need to touch the keyboard. The trim wheel was very stiff, so I wouldn't use it to trim the airplane, just to adjust the joystick centering during calibration.

SELF CENTERING OR NOT???
I was concerned about the lack of center detent when I initially read the literature. But this doesn't mean the joystick doesn't self-center. It snaps back to center with about 1/4 inches of center play, just like in a real airplane.

FirePower for Microsoft Combat Simulator 3 Review

FirePower for Microsoft Combat Simulator 3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know, they (pc gamer, gamespot, etc...) are talking this sim to be something great and in all respects it is but when you compare it with the other great WWII combat sims (IL2)for intance, it does not even come close. The authenic nature of this game is unbeatable in gun sounds and bomb effects but that is about it. If you like to blow stuff up this is the add-on for you considering the original game was a horrible combat flight sim lacking and unfinnished in so many areas it was not funny!

The great thing is you can use the atom bomb in the superfortress which I have yet to find on the CD but really you get four times more of a sim with IL2 with it's expansion packs and user-made levels and you get 10 times more planes to fly and the effects and graphics are even better in some cases as this title. Sure you don't have the bomb cam but if you look at the ground after unloading a 1000 lb bomb from a German JU bomber you will see the aftermath, maybe not as great but acceptible to say the least. Plus there is really a lack of dog fight them that makes IL2 what it is.

In all, I wish they would not try to lift up Microsoft so much because obviously they could not contend with a foriegn developer as the Russian's have them beat this time with IL2 and the expansion packs Ace, Pacific Fighters. B
ut there is hope for WWII flight sim's made in America, wait until Rowan's Battle of Britain II comes out hopefully this April 2005. What I've seen, this sim might just give both of these sims a run for their money. We'll see.

Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick Review

Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you're a (flight) simulator fan, this joystick is really worth the money. It is well built with a nice feel and feedback effects.
When I was shopping for force feedback joysticks I was torn between this and the Logitech "3D" model.I have to admit, the Logic had a nicer design. The stick itself had a slightly better feel and the throw on the throttle control was longer and more precise. However, I decided to go with the Microsoft model because of the positive experience I've had with their force feedback steering wheel.Just like the wheel, the construction on the joystick is very solid.I expect this will stand up to a lot of abuse.
This stick is not without it's drawbacks.First, the throttle control is a bit small.I would like something a bit bigger and with a bit more resitance.Second, the force feedback is only activated when you are fully grasping the stick. This is actually a neat feature, but can be annoying when you don't feel like "properly" holding the stick.

Over the years I've played many, many PC flight simulations and this FC2 is the best I've found. It provides the best balance of realism and game play that no other similar games have matched. I love that eight different flyable aircraft are provided, smooooooooth online game play with friends, the amazing flight dynamics of the Su-25 and Su-25T, the best PC flight sim graphics available, and that I can fly online with friends flying DCS Black Shark. Not surprised it got PC Pilots "Platinum" award. This is a winner!

World War 2: Fighters Review

World War 2: Fighters
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
WW II fighters was one of a pack of four combat flight simulator that came out together in the same one-year period. It proves to be the most beautiful and playable of them all.To start, the graphics arespectacular. They use direct 3D rendering and are completely customizable, allowing many different hardware configurations to run the game well.Thedetails, from explosions and tracer bullets to smoke trails, are stunning. The soundtrack is perhaps the best of any computer game. The music is wellcomposed and appropriate for each situation. The combat sounds enhance therealism of the game. For example, when an enemy barely misses you with hismachine guns, you'll hear the bullets sail past you.The game is alsovery playable and accessible to even the most casual simulator pilot.Aunique camera view in the lower right hand corner is padlocked to yourtarget and indicates its bearing. This makes up for the limitation ofusing a computer screen to take the place of a three dimensional world. The fact that fighters in World War II had none of the onboard radar andavionics of a modern plane means that the simulation is simplified andhence more fun than many of the simulators for modern aircraft.Themissions are challenging, but do not really compose a persistent campaign. I highly recommend this game to those interested in combat flightsimulators. If you don't take my word for it, just try the demo and Ithink you'll be sold.

CH Products USB Combatstick 568 with 8-Way Switch & 128 Programmable Functions Review

CH Products USB Combatstick 568 with 8-Way Switch & 128 Programmable Functions
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, this review is meant for PC users.Since CH Products is one of the few companies that supports Macs the only joystick better than this one would be their next step up, the Fighterstick. For a Mac I would give this 5 stars. Also, I will be reviewing the CH products Flightstick, Combatstick, and Fighterstick at the same time (using the Combatstick here as the base) since they are all pretty much the same except for the number of buttons.

The first and best thing about these sticks and their partner throttle is that they are based of the F-16's flight control system much like the old Thrustmaster systems from the early '90s.This gives them the double bonus of an added realism connection, which all flight simmers want, and a very good choice of buttons and layout. After all, the military used decades of research and experience to arrive at the optimum joystick design when they made the F-16 and almost all other modern fighters have a very similar joystick layout.

While the layout may look strange and even a bit cluttered at first glance, it turns out to be very easy to use once you get a hold of it.These joysticks are about 35% larger than the old Thrustmasters, this gives them enough room on the head for the extra 4 buttons hats to be used safely, but also means you will actually be using the side buttons as your secondary ones before the top groups. This takes a bit of getting used to since it's different than all the other joysticks out there, but since they are where you would naturally have your fingers on the joystick when at rest it doesn't take long.

I found the layout to be superior to all the recent Saiteks as a result of this attention. The Saitek joysticks of recent years, particularly the Cyborg line, have been designed with looks first, and then a little thought for function. As a result they have been very uncomfortable to use.

Another link these CH Products joysticks have with the Thrustmasters of old is that they use springs to hold the joystick in place and measure it's movements. There are both positive and negative results of this choice. The main negative is that the springs will wear out and break before the current digital measurement devices, exactly how much earlier remains to be seen as CH products is rather new in the game market.Given their solid reputation in the commercial sector I'd bet we will still get a hearty number of years out of them.A last and rather small second side effect is that the brand new joystick is that the brand new springs are rather stiff, and you will experience some resistance when crossing the axis' early on.I found this went away completely after 30 hours of use and wasn't much of a problem after the first 10.

On the plus side the springs mean that the joystick will snap back to center quickly and consistently, making calibration a breeze and programming in a dead zone a thing of the past. Most importantly, you get even more precise control than with the competitors. Not much considering how good they have gotten over the years, particularly the Logitechs, but it's still better.

Finally we get to the major differences between the 3 sticks offered by CH Products, the number of buttons and the price.

First, we will start with the "economy" Flightstick, if you can call a joystick with an $89.95 list price economy. However, a quick look at it's features prove that is its role since it only has a trigger, 3 secondary buttons, a standard HAT, and 2 trim wheels. Also, all the secondary buttons are on the head of the stick, which is a bit of a reach. However, since the buttons are rather large (the footprint was intended for a 4-button HAT) that problem is somewhat countered. On the upside, this it the only joystick in the line that isn't molded for a right-handed person.I'm betting most lefties have learned to fly right-handed by now since most are designed for right-handed people, but I imagine that's welcome news for some of you.

The next one up is this Combatstick, my personal favorite. With a list price only $20 more than the flightstick, and a less than $10 difference and Amazon.com's current prices, it's well worth the upgrade for an extra 6 buttons and another trim wheel. Also, the secondary buttons are moved off the head of the stick so they are much easier to get to in a hurry. This leaves the buttons on the head for tertiary controls. In fact, with my Il-2 setup I don't even use the 4 button hat.Admittedly I play on the lower end of it's realism scale.

If your one of those people who likes to run their games at the highest realism settings you will want the extra buttons of the Fighterstick, because of it's extra hats it has 4 more buttons.Even better it has a mode shift button, basically 'shift' for the joystick. This button toggles the functions off all the other buttons, with the normal hat counting as 8 more.Using this you end up with a whopping 24 programmable buttons.Tack that on to the Pro Throttle with it's HATs and buttons and their special software to add other levels to them and you can have more buttons than anyone should ever need.Assuming you aren't playing flying a bomber in Il-2 with full realism and refuse to use the keyboard.

In the end my only gripe about these products is their high cost, much more than I would normally pay for a joystick and the reason I docked them a star. However, I can understand why they are this high a price.Hardcore flight sim enthusiasts have proven time and time again that they will pay whatever is necessary to get the next best advantage in their field. The fact that they also have pretty much a monopoly on controls patterned off of the real thing and the Mac user field probably factors in as well.

Since I am a hardcore flight sim enthusiast, I still paid for them, and I was always able to give it a positive spin by reminding myself that I paid as much as the throttle and stick combined for my graphics card and I'll get to use these a lot longer. We just wont even mention the sound system.

IL2: Forgotten Battles Gold Pack Review

IL2: Forgotten Battles Gold Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Forgotten Battles (FB) is truly awesome with its amazingly realistic graphics. The detail to aircraft (including cockpit interior)will delight the WWII buff and the sunlight effects are stunning and realistic. You can zoom in and out, and have internal and external views. You will however, need to ensure your computer and graphics card can handle the requirements of the game. The flight model can be adjusted to suit ones own individual skill or pleasure levels. Pilot career campaigns can be created from a whole range aircraft including Stuka, Heinkel 111, ME109, IL2, I16, MIGs etc, although these aircraft could be upgraded during the pilots career. Once you start to amass a tally, the game has you going back for more to increase your tally. Many variety of aircraft can be encountered, including Gladiators, P40 Kittyhawks, P39 Airacobras, JU88s etc. In the midst of combat on bomber aircraft you can take up the postion of gunners and attempt to shoot down marauding fighters. My only gripe is that there is no strategic element to the game and there is no way you can influence the outcome of the war, but then again the air war on the Eastern Front was almost entirely a tactical affair. Perhaps the creators of the game will have a strategic element in the proposed Battle of Britain game. The FB game includes a Quick Mission builder and a Full Mission Builder. The game will certainly provide many hours of enjoyment.

Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2: Pacific Theater Review

Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2: Pacific Theater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had trouble getting this one to run, but finally was successful.I am running an AMD/K6-2 (350) CPU, with 64 Mb of RAM, and a Diamond Monster 3D II accelerator, with a Flightstick Pro and rudder pedals.According to the package, I meet all of the requirements. My operating system is Microsoft's Windows ME.

I loaded CFS2 twice, but when I tried to play it could not get past loading the scenery, when my screen went black. The machine locked up!Finally after trying the new drivers for the Diamond Monster, which I found on their European site, I got it to run properly.

You would think, though, that Microsoft, with all of their expertise, could design a game that would run without so many hassles.

The game is good.Graphics are superb, sound is good, and the scenery is excellent. The game runs smoothly, when you finally get it to run.I found some fault, of course.

First, I dislike the annoying cones that point you at the nearby enemy. They are certainly not realistic. Also, the enemy planes flit about in a most unrealistic fashion, and make them unrealistically hard to track.Even closing at a combined speed of 600 miles an hour, another aircraft should be more easily followed. However, Microsoft is no guiltier than many other simulation designers in such matters.

Modeling of the aircrafts' flight characteristics is not bad, but not entirely realistic, either.I took an F6F "Hellcat" up to 10,000 feet above Kwajalein atoll, an airstrip from which I have flown, and put her into a spin. This is an aircraft that was relatively easy to fly (I soloed in 1946 in the real thing.)Although I kicked reverse rudder and neutralized the controls properly, she would not recover from the spin and go into a dive. The F6F was not notorious for having bad spin characteristics.

Also, dropping your landing gear at a couple hundred miles an hour should not result in "gear damage."Pilots often did it in combat, to get a sudden reduction in speed.

Another problem is the slow reaction of the machine guns to the gun button. And after the button is released, they inexplicably keep on firing for a couple or three seconds.

The copy writers who wrote the Pilot's Manual fell into the same trap as everyone else in comparing the F6F with the F4U "Corsair."They claimed that the F6F is "far from the fastest U.S. fighter" but that it was in the "top rank of American fighters in the Pacific theater, along with the Vought Corsair."They claim a top speed for the Hellcat of 327 knots (376 mph) at 17,300 feet, while the Corsair is credited with a top speed of 363 knots (417 mph) at 19,900 feet, making the Corsair seem much faster. One gets tired of hearing such unfair comparisons.

I've got news for them: an article in Flight Journal last year by Corky Meyer (a Grumman test pilot) described a side by side test of the Corsair and Hellcat, flat out at the same altitude (they had the same R2800, 2,000 horsepower Pratt & Whitney engine, but different dash numbers) had them performing at the same speed over the ground, but the Corsair was indicating a higher speed due to the different placement of the pitot tube.

Because of its wing design, the Corsair had a quicker roll characteristic than the Hellcat. It was also more unstable and difficult to fly, and taxiing and landing visibility was hampered by the long engine nacelle. They called it the "Ensign Eliminator."Otherwise, they were very evenly matched in their performance characteristics.

The copy writers call the Corsair "big, tough, and fast," which it was of course, but the F6F pilots shot down over 70 percent of all air-to-air kills in the Pacific war.It is a vastly under rated airplane, by the desk jockeys.

Here are some figures:The Hellcat is credited with 5,156 air victories during WWII, and 306 Hellcat pilots shot down 5 or more enemy planes (the definition of an "ace.")Corsairs shot down 2,140 enemy, and made only 93 aces, although they enbtered service in the Pacific first. The famed Mustang was credited with only 296 kills, and made only 5 aces. The little F4F "Wildcat," with 1,006 kills made 58 aces, and was bad-mouthed as being obsolete at the war's beginning.Looking only at results, one wonders at the critics remarks.

But, this is a fine game. The graphics are right up there with Jane's WWII Fighters, and it will be a source of much pleasure for a lot of people.

Joseph Pierre, USN (Ret)

Saitek X52 Flight Control System Review

Saitek X52 Flight Control System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a previous owner of the X45 flight control system and avid flight sim junkie, I was compelled to upgrade my HOTAS system to something newer.I was originally looking at the Thrustmaster HOTAS system, but could not conjur up enough money to purchase one. After playing with the X52 at a LAN party, I was sold and went out and purchased one that night.

The X52 has loads of improvements over the X45 - not even mentioning the LCD MFD.One addition which I would have loved to see in the X45 are the eight removable suction cups on the bottom of the stick and throttle bases. The cups first out of the box will do some sliding around, but nothing so drastic that it'll mess your flights up.They do a great enough job to keep the stick down during normal use - provided that you don't slam the stick around, but for a flight system that costs this much, I don't think that'll be too much of a problem for most people.

Just like all other Saitek sticks, the X52 is fully customizable in both hardware and software. Not only can you move the lower shelf on the joystick up and down to fit your hand, but you can also adjust the force on the throttle stick.Like all other Saitek sticks, however, you cannot adjust the centering force on the stick itself. But I did not find this to be too much of a problem as it is much looser than all other HOTAS systems that I have owned. The X52 also comes with the Saitek SST programming software, which (again, like all other Saitek sticks) allows you to program every button on the joystick to either an axis, mouse axis, single keyboard stroke, or a complex macro.

I also fell in love with the three modes and color coded mode identification LED to let you know what mode you are in.As a result I can have a mode for A-A, one for A-G, and one mode for general tasks when playing Falcon 4.0: Allied Force, making it easier to keep my hands on the flight system at all times.

The MFD is also a cool addition to the X52.It has a time display to let you know what time it is in up to three time zones, as well as a built-in stopwatch to time your flights and coordinate your turns right on time. And if you can't remember what you programmed a button to - just simply hold down the info button and click the button you want to know about and voila!Your button's function is displayed on the screen.

All in all - a great HOTAS system for those of us that cannot afford the Thrustmaster HOTAS systems. This flight stick runs perfectly with games like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and Falcon 4.0 - my two choices and recommendations to pair up with this stick.

And for those of you who want to know about Windows XP Professional x64 support - the stick works perfectly using drivers available on the Saitek website.

In my opinion,Rogue Leader is the best GameCube launch title by far.I can't remember the last game that got my heart pumping like this one.My hands were even shaking after some missions,I guess it's the combination of classic Star Wars scenarios you go through all three movies here and an incredibly well designed, beautiful game. And it ain't no cakewalk, either. If your skills aren't up to snuff in any of the missions at least all but one exceptionally easy run near the end, anyway you'll definitely find yourself floating home. But despite the difficulty,it's almost impossible to put Rogue Leader down, and that's the sign of a truly great game.

IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 Review

IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been a pilot for over 40 years and have flown everything from '20s biplanes to Navy carrier jets...and this sim is awesome.

Note: it is on DVD not CD as stated here. And it is NOT a game. There is a significant learning curve involved to successfully fly these aircraft in full-on realistic mode. It does have 'simple' modes that make it possible for anyone to fly, but don't think of this as an arcade game in any sense.

Trust me, if you can fly these birds in full realism mode, with a little time flying under the supervision of an instructor you can fly the real thing. Here there are fewer cues (just sight and sound), but in real aircraft you also have so-called proprioceptive sensations too (the seat of your pants, for one), among others.

Buy it, you'll like it! The graphics are gorgeous, the scenarios are amazing. You won't find modern airliners, but you'll find most of the WW2 machines (Russian, German, Japanese, British and American).

A flight over the cliffs of dover at sunset in a Spitfire may bring tears to your eyes...it did me.

Falcon 4.0: Allied Force Review

Falcon 4.0: Allied Force

This game/sim is great fun.It has a truly dynamic campaign, which means that your actions do impact the outcome. There isn't another game out there where there is so much going on "in the background" that, aside from playing the game, you can see and use to impact on how you play the game.

I'm no kid, so I don't have time to learn many complex features or learn how to do it on a real F-16.So, while you can have all of the true to life features/requirements of the real jet if you want, you can also scale those down to simplified avionics, etc. There are about 30 training missions with specific instructions on completing them, which cover the major aspects of handling the jet.

As for documentation, if you do want to do all of the "realism" options, you can get plenty of reading material as there is a 716 page .pdf manual).

I would recommend this highly.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey Review

I have been a casual fan of flight simulator programs for over 20 years. Not a hard-core simmer, by any means. But I usually buy the latest iteration of MS Flight Simulator and Combat Flight Simulator and have logged more hours than I care to admit in the PC cockpit.

So I was very excited when the PS3 came out.At last, a console with the innards to handle flight simulation!Powerful CPU?Check.Great graphics chip?Check.High definition?Check.High capacity Blu-ray game discs to handle mountains of terrain data?Check.

Imagine my disappointment when, upon purchasing the PS3 two years ago, I found the flight-sim category to be virtually non-existent.The last two years have been slow to fill the gap.I got "Blazing Angels 2" and it was a joke. The irritating bravado of the characters, the silly missions, and the unrealistic physics--you could fly a plane straight up, indefinitely, until you hit a magical glass ceiling that defined the boundaries of the game--made it more like a cartoon than a simulator.HAWX was not much better.

Il-2 is different. This is an extremely well-done combat flight SIMULATOR.It is easy to learn, fun to play, and nearly impossible to master. It is the PS3 game that I have been waiting for--a combat flight simulator for grown-ups.

For starters, the whole tone of this game is different from the other PS3 combat flight sims. The presentation is understated and respectful of the historical events it recreates. There are black-and-white news-reel clips that introduce each of the "chapters," which are excellent. The "encyclopedia" gives the historical background of the events. And at the end of each of the missions is a journal entry of the character you are playing. All of this is very well done. The sober good taste does not detract from the fun of the game.It enhances it.

The graphics, too, are top-notch.There are a million tiny details that the developers got right, creating an extremely realistic landscape to fly though. The fields and hedgerows of southeast England have a believable patchwork irregularity to them. The habitations are realistic, too--with the cities organically fading into suburbs and then into farmland.Topographic features like the cliffs of Dover are convincingly rendered. And the sea and sky, what beauty!Seeing the streaked reflections of mid-summer cumulous clouds in the English Channel, a sunset reflected in the Volga near Stalingrad, or a frosty morning over Bayonne is alone worth the price of the admission.Unlike "Blazing Angels," you feel like you are flying through a real world that extends indefinitely in all directions, not a movie set.

As a bonus, the night skies are rendered accurately, too.On one night mission, I saw a familiar "V" in the sky, which I suspected was the Hyades in Taurus.Sure enough, it was.Close by were the Pleiades, Orion, and Gemini. And I soon located the Big and Little Dipper. I spent a whole mission stargazing--to the consternation, no doubt, of the bomber flight for which I was supposed to act as fighter cover.

Although the game is playable on the standard PS3 Sixaxis controller, it really cries out for a joystick.I got the $30 Thrustmaster stick and have been pleased.I would really like a force-feedback stick--to get a better feel for the control surfaces and get a jolt when hit by enemy rounds--but I am not sure the game supports force-feedback.

The game has two main single-player modes: "campaign" and "single mission."They both progress through different chapters--i.e., theaters of war.So you start out with "Battle of Britain," which has four campaign missions and a dozen or so single missions. Then you proceed through the Battle of Stalingrad, Sicily, Korsun Gap, Battle of the Bulge, and Battle of Berlin

There is a good mix of scenarios. Not every mission is a dogfight. Some involve ground attack with a fighter-bomber using rockets and bombs.Others involve providing top cover for a bomber flight. Some missions don't involve any fighting at all, but just require you to navigate to and land at different airfields. And there is just about every permutation of day/night, sunny/cloudy, summer/winter, urban/rural that you can think of.If those variations are not enough, you can create your own missions with the "training" option, where you can choose your plane, time, weather, theater, enemy planes, enemy skill, etc.The various "trophies" encourage you to explore the different possibilities that the game affords.

The developers have done an excellent job at making Il-2 playable for novices, while still retaining the feel of a simulator. The "arcade" mode gives your plane very forgiving aerodynamics (you do not get into a spin if you pull back too hard on the stick), unrealistic performance (your Spitfire can, with "War Emergency Power," exceed 500 mph--way beyond actual performance), and over-the-top lethality (a single short burst is often all it takes to down a Stuka). But it still feels real. You still have to maneuver into firing position and "lead" your target--a targeting aid helps you with that, too, though. The game is easy enough to learn that my 8-year-old son has completed several of the missions already.

If you are experienced at PC or console flight sims, it probably will not take too long to get through the missions on "arcade" mode. But that's where the fun begins.Once you move to "realistic" mode, the game takes on a different character entirely.Suddenly, your plane isn't Superplane--it's just an ordinary fighter. It takes more bullets to down an enemy, and you have to calculate the lead yourself.Your plane also becomes aerodynamically unforgiving.Pulling back too hard on the stick will stall your plane and, more often than not, send you into a vicious spin. And with just an ordinary engine, it takes some skill to get into firing position with an enemy fighter.I have just completed the Battle of Britain on realistic mode, and it was tough.

If that weren't enough, the game has "simulator" mode, where ALL computer aids are turned off.You no longer have on-screen labels or a "tactical map" showing where the enemy is.You have to use your own eyes.I haven't even been able to complete the tutorial for simulator (I keep losing my instructor and the Bf 109 I am supposed to shoot down) so it likely will be many more flying hours before I can step up to that. The game really is as difficult as you want it to be.

I suppose that any review has to include some "cons."But there are not many with this gem of a game.First, the voices in the game are repetitive, which is annoying. Not a big deal, though.Second, there is no two-player mode.I would like to go head-to-head with my son but, alas, the only multiplayer mode is online.Third, you cannot tweak the realism settings. There are only three options, Arcade, Realistic, and Simulator.Small, Medium, and Large.I would have liked an option to have retained all the aspects of Realistic mode, except for the diabolical tendency to enter into spins.Though I understand and respect the decision to simplify the interface for the general console-playing public. And I am getting better at avoiding and coming out of spins, so no big deal.

Overall, though, this was Christmas in September for me.I have annoyed my wife by staying up `til the wee hours on many nights fighting off Messerschmitts and Stukas. And the game has prompted my 8 year old to say the three magic words that every father longs to hear from his son: "Awesome kill, Dad!"
