While this game hasn't been released yet, so no one out there can really review it yet, as an employee of EA (but not on any of the Bond teams), I would like to give my thoughts and opinions on how this game has turned out.
First, this game is truely amazing.Being a big fan of Rare's Goldeney and Perfect Dark, I was wondering if it would be possible to top those gaming experiences. In the end, I would say yes.To me, The Worlds Not Enough is the first Bond not made by Rare to top Goldeneye and Perfect Dark on all levels. The graphics are incredibly detailed, smooth, and for the most part run at an incredibly smooth frame rate.Even in levels with filled with city detail, cars, people, explosions, etc., the game maintains a very good frame rate. The character animations and models are also a big step over what was seen in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark.In graphics, The Worlds Not Enough truely shows what the Nintendo 64 is capable of.When using the expansion pack, which I recommend, the graphics are even more amazing. While many games that employee the use of the expansion pack, most of the time its only for high-res graphics, usually resulting in frame rate problems. This is not the case for The Worlds Not Enough. While yes the expansion pack is used for optional high-res graphics, it is also used to improve the visual effects in the game.Best of all, unlike a lot of games that use it, it doesn't become a trade off....better graphics, not so great frame rate.Even with the use of the pack, the frame rate remains pretty constant.
Sound is another high point for the game.Of course it tops Goldeneye since that game was released by in 1997, but it also tops the sound found in Perfect Dark. The games' score is strong, very bond-ish, and helps to really draw you into the game. Same thing goes for the sound effects.Voice audio is also a huge plus. The game features a large amount of voice acting that sounds like its straight out of the movie. While yes Perfect Dark featured a great deal of voice recordings, the audio quality of the voice recordings in The Worlds Not Enough is of a higher quality, resulting in clearer/stonger audio.
The gameplay is also top notch. If you have played Goldeneye or Perfect Dark, then you will have no probably picking up that controller and getting right into the game.Eurocom, the developer for the N64 version, has done an terrific job capturing the feel and enjoyment found in the two Rare titles.
Overall, this is truely an amazing and very enjoyable game.I highly recommend the purchase of this game by anyone who is a Bond fan, a first person shooter fan, or just a fan of great games. While some may believe I am only saying this because I am employeed by EA, that's not it at all.Like many Nintendo fans, I only except the highest quality games, and will only recommend a game if it meets my expectations. This game not only met all of my expectations, but surpased them and makes me excited for the next Bond game.I highly recommend the purchase.
