Silent Scope Complete Review

Silent Scope Complete

Reviewers have been tepid about this title, but reveiwers do not play videogames the way many of us do.For reviewers, videogames are serious business. For me, and, I would imagine, many others, games are supposed to be simple fun.
Silent Scope provides oodles of it.Not much thinking, just fast, fast, tight, well designed action, with a cool scope-in, scope-out dynamic that actually maybe does require some strategy.A classic of the level of House of The Dead 1& 2.I play without a gun, and with just the controller, it's a blast.
It would be worth the money if all you got was one game, but you get THREE FULL ARCADE GAMES, PLUS BONUS GAMES.Most gun games suffer from low longevity, but it would be very hard to imagine anyone finishing this title in under 30 hours.
Very, very addictive and cool.Varied action, humour, branching paths...
Sure, the graphics are not at par with the best of XBOX, but they're glitch free, and designed with a wink and a chuckle, and some environments actually look pretty good and do contain OK polygon counts and that.
Bottom line, if you're tired of games that are so complicated they feel like jobs, so complicated they lack focus and direction, get this now.
- P.S. - I set difficulty at 6 which offers optimal "resistance"- I recommend doing that and leaving everything else at default values, except for turning on auto-save, and turning off branching paths in Silent Scope 1 (the surprise of which path you'll randomly get adds to re-play.)Each game has its own options set.

SEGA House of the Dead 2 Review

SEGA House of the Dead 2
Average Reviews:

First off, you should know that this game has practically no replay value. However, the first time you play it is a blast. It says that you can play with a buddy, fighting the forces of evil, but this is an awful way to play considering that one of the players has to use the keyboard to move the crosshair. That makes it virtually impossible for you to beat the final boss, because he moves so fast. Also, you should definitley not play if you get tired easily. You have to click the mouse like a million clicks a second, just to kill a regular boss.you can eaily get carple tunnel syndrome from playing this game too much.I found that I had to pause the game a couple of times, just to let my wrist rest for twenty minutes.I would give 4/5 stars on graphics.I see myself as a very skilled gamer, but even I had much trouble defeating the final boss.I probably spent a total of 2 hours playing this game. The game is not very realistic, but it is not supposed to be.I really liked how there are quite a number of different paths that you can take throughout the game.My mom really didn't like me playing this game...oh well. So, I gave it 3 stars because of its short gameplay, and inevitable pain, but i only bought it for 5 bucks at a store, so it was well worth it.Its not really a bad game at all.I say if you see it for $10 or less get it, but if you don't, get Time Splitters cheap on ebay.

House of the Dead: Overkill Review

House of the Dead: Overkill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
House of the Dead: Overkill is the first new original game in the series for a long time.Gameplay is largely unchanged from its arcade roots, which is good because House of the Dead has always been known as a quality light-gun shooter. It is bloody, gory, violent, profane, and above all, very fun.It has solid multi-player support and even includes some 2-4 player competitive modes.

GAMEPLAY: Gameplay basically consists of pointing the Wii remote at everything that moves on screen and blasting away.It doesn't get simpler than that.Luckily, the game provides a lot of variety despite the simple mechanics. Enjoyable as a one-player game, the game is twice as fun with a second player. The multi-player mini-games are also enjoyable, but the true strength of the game lies in re-playing and trying to beat your high scores. The higher your scores, the more cash you earn. The more cash you earn, the more weapon upgrades you can buy.The better your weapons, the easier it is to get higher scores. It works really well.

GRAPHICS: This game looks good, but there are better looking games on the Wii.Some character models are rougher looking than others and some textures feel really low res. There are times where the dialogue and mouth movements on characters aren't synched up very well, but that's really minor. There are some frame rate issues at times, but overall the game looks great and none of the issues I mentioned get in the way of me enjoying the game.

LEVELS: The levels consist of seven extremely campy and cheesy Grindhouse movie themed missions.Seven levels doesn't sound like a lot, but there's a lot here. When you're done with the regular mode, you can turn on "Extra Mutants" or move on to "Director's Cut" which is basically expanded levels with increased difficulty.Or you can turn on "Dual Weild" and "Director's Cut" at the same time.I've already played many levels at least a half dozen times and it is likely they will be played several more times each.

PRESENTATION: A lot of thought has gone into the presentation of this game. While the game is horror themed, the primary focus of the dialogue is generally funny. The music is amazing. The menu presentations are phenomenally well thought out.The whole game oozes seventies style and spoofs many horror movie and Blaxploitation themes, for good or for bad. This game wallows in the cliches that have persisted in low-budget Hollywood films for decades. It is also probably the most vulgar game on the market that I can think of.One character, an obvious Samuel L. Jackson knockoff, uses the f-bomb like a comma.Talking like that would get you kicked out of even the toughest biker bar.The game developers even realize this and make fun of the excessive swearing.Oh, and something disturbing happens at the end of the last level which is so vile and disgusting I'm still kind of shocked.I honestly think the game should have been rated AO (Adults Only) instead of M (Mature).

This is probably one of the better game purchases I've made. There are a lot of light-gun style games on the Wii, but this one plays better than all the rest. The most comparable competing titles in terms of quality would probably be Link's Crossbow Training, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, or House of the Dead: 2 & 3.The only serious drawback to this game is the absurd amount of profanity and over the top vulgarity.SEGA went a little too far at times, especially near the end of the game.Way too far....

I highly recommend Overkill as a purchase or a rental to open-minded and tolerant adults looking for a thoroughly enjoyable multi-player co-op game.I generally oppose censorship in nearly all of its forms, but I also believe that there is something to be said about exercising self-restraint.If you are easily offended or even moderately offended by profanity and crude humor I have to recommend staying away from this game because it frequently crosses the line of good taste.

House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return Review

House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is a no-brainer. If you were ever a fan of the House of the Dead in the arcade, then you have to dish the $30 to get it. If you're as bad a shot as I was in the arcade, you'll make up the money in about 10 minutes worth of play. :)

If you've never played the game but are looking for a new title to use your snazzy Wii Zapper on, then this is also the game for you. It's super responsive and accurate, and gives you lots of satisfaction based on the sound effects and gore.

For those expecting something new and fantastic for the Wii release, you may be disappointed. The graphics are the same as the tried and true versions, and the voice overs are still the very poorly-acted (but admittedly nostalgic) ones you love to hate.

Parents, fear not. You can "censor" the level of gore if you're still OK with your child playing this type of game. (It's rated M for mature, i.e. 17+). You can make the blood be green instead of red, and also minimize the amount of gore in the options menu. Accessory-wise, you don't need the Wii Zapper or other comparable shooting peripheral. It works fine with the controllers as they come out of the box, but since the arcade version had guns, it's nice to have this extra.

Here's what you get with the game: House of the Dead 2, with arcade and original modes, boss mode and training mode. You start with the basics, and as you get further and further into these modes, you unlock more and more things. House of the Dead 3 has arcade mode and extreme mode, with the same ability to unlock more and more as you go through the game.

The only minus for this game (which still doesn't affect my rating of it) is the occasional lag you may experience during zombie-intense shooting moments (maybe once or twice during an entire start-to-finish game). It doesn't affect game play, but I'm sure some of you avid gamers out there would find it very annoying.

Overall, getting 2 games in one for 30 bucks is a great deal, and I'm a very, very happy camper that my arcade fave has made a return for Wii.
