Pokemon, Crystal Version Review

I have just recently reserved one for myself. I saw screen shots opf the Japanese version, and it is better than Gold/Silver. For one, when you enter a new route or city, a little box will appear at the bottom of the screen to let you know what city/route you have entered. Also, the legendary dogs/cats, whatever they are, are now seen in the wild. Suicune is the main Pokemon in this game. What I mean by that is, you will see what he lopoks like and Entei and Raikou will appear as they do in G/S. Also, you finally get the G/S Ball. If you take it to Kurt, he'll take it for a day, give it back to you when you go back. When you get it back, you can take it into the Ilex Forest, put it in the Shrine you past by, and have a chance of carching Celebii. There are also a few new items, but, I don't know what they're are called. It also has updated information on the Unown. Also, there are new puzzles you have to figure out in order to catch the 26 Unown. This game is going to be of of the best sequels to any Pokemon game. This is a must-have for any die-hard Pokemon fan.

Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals Review

Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals

As someone new to flight simulators, these were the first rudder pedals I have ever used. My general impression is that they work well but their flimsy construction is disconcerting. As I haven't ever used CH pedals, it is difficult to assess what would be considered sturdy for a consumer product like this. However, the Saitek pedals feel as if they would be damaged by putting any amount of weight on the pedal surface. Not only is the plastic rather thin but the whole apparatus is extremely light.Saitek should have used some inexpensive ballast to rectify the latter problem.

Unfortunately, the light weight means they are not stable when used straight out of the box. With several through holes, the designers are probably suggesting the user mount the base to a heavier object. To use them on carpet, I took a different approach. In each of the eight holes, I mounted a set screw with a flat machined end. These were adjusted with a nut and large washer (for weight distribution) to allow a 3/8" elevation. The screws will penetrate the pile and resist any forward movement. To increase the effect, I attached eight, one pound lead ingots with double-sided tape to the base. This arrangement provides a very stable platform.

In my ten hours of Flight Simulator X, I haven't found any problems with pedals. However, I did observe some minor flutter on occasion when using the Saitek diagnostic software. It generally goes away after some movement.

Despite concerns over the construction, the pedals have some nice features. There is an adjustable tension knob in the center of the pedals. In addition, the pedal surface is adjustable for different shoe sizes.

In general, the Saitek Pro Flight Rudder pedals work well and look nice. It would just be more comforting if Saitek used a few more millimeters of plastic on the pedals and base.Pros

When Twisted metal 1 came out, I had never seen a game where you blow other cars up. I played this game for a long time awaiting the next great version.#2 was great with huge levels, and fast action. Again, awaiting 3 with great expectations.I bought 3 the day it came out.Upon playing 3 forthe first time, it didn't even play like twisted metal. I had hoped that itwould get better, but it just kept getting worse! All the fast action wasgone, the levels were too small.I hardly played #3 within 2 weeks ofpurchase. Instead, I played Vigilante 8. Heard Twisted 4, was indevelopment-I didn't even get excited due to #3. Of course being me, Ibought #4 the day it debuted not knowing what to expect. From the secondthat I played it I knew that IT WAS THE BEST ONE!The cars now havereflections on them, & the explosions are tremendous. There's alwaysfire on the screen somewhere, not to mention how much weapons are nowavailable.Everywhere you look now weapons are laying around. The leveldesigns are really good & they're huge. I've played thru the levelsmany, many times now & haven't found all secret paths. There are morecharacters than any other Twisted Metal,& more levels.Also,eightdeath-match only levels. These levels look like something off Tron.Thechallenge of the game isnt too hard nor easy. The create a car mode isreally cool. You can pick body style, paint job, special weapon,& thescream when you die.Now you can save all your cars that you create,&the poeple you beat the game with-allowing you to watch their endings atanytime. The memory card option is the best thing that could have everhappened.I can't say that the endings are any better than #3, but all inall this is the best Twisted Metal YET! Get it as soon as possible.

This is a perfect add on to the best multiplayer warfare game on the market.Fast action, easy to learn and play, cool weapons, great teamwork.Everything about this game rocks. They added all the right stuff that was needed to make the original perfect. There is no problem with the playability, the colisions, and the weapons. It's all good.

After playing the beta test for a month, I can't stop playing this game.Sure Halo 2 and Half Life 2 slowed me down a bit.But I'm back into J.O.E. like I never stopped.Play more and more each day.Oh god!I'm addicted!Ahhhhhh!Don't buy this game! It'll keep you awake for days!!!Ahhhh!

I agree with Billy though, the Novalogic Forum Admins are clueless on how to handle a real forum. They really have a superiority complex, and keep the flow of conversation to a bare trickle of information worth reading.

Wii Remote Controller Review

Wii Remote Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The purchase of additional Nintendo Wii Remote controllers are the basic requirement for multi-player games. Strongly consider buying a pair of high-capacity NiMH rechargeable AA batteries along with each additional controller. The Nintendo Wii Remote consumes a lot of power because of the many functions it performs -- the Wii Remote serves as a motion controller, provides power to controller attachments, and generates sound and vibration effects. The included set of disposable alkaline batteries will last less than a couple of weeks for active players (six days in my case). This compares to a battery life of a couple of months for the previous generation of Nintendo's wireless controller -- the Nintendo Wavebird controller for the GameCube.

Many games require the additional purchase of a controller attachment for multi-player mode -- the Wii Nunchuk Controller or Wii Classic Controller, both of which plug into the base of the Wii Remote. In multi-player mode, the Wii Nunchuk is used for two-handed Wii games, e.g., Red Steel or the boxing game in Wii Sports.

The Wii Classic Controller attachment is currently used to play games on the Wii Virtual Console. Held sideways, the Wii Remote can serve as a game controller for all current Sega Genesis, TurboGrafx 16, and Nintendo (NES) Wii Virtual Console games. A Wii Classic Controller or Nintendo GameCube controller is required to play Super Nintendo (SNES) or Nintendo 64 virtual console games.

You may want to purchase a Wii Classic Controller or Nintendo GameCube controller (this plugs directly into Wii Console itself) to play Virtual Console titles anyway. The Wii Remote is diminutive, and a Wii Classic Controller or GameCube controller both offer better handgrip and button placement. Of note, a Wii Classic controller can currently only be used for Wii Virtual Console games, while a GameCube controller can be used for Wii Virtual Console games and all Nintendo GameCube games.

Each "Wiimote" has a nice touch of interactivity, holding up to 10 Mii avatars per remote. You can take your Mii character along with you to play games like Wii Sports on other Wii consoles by taking your Wii Remote along with you.

The one improvement I would make to the Wii Remote Controller would be to add finger nubs. The Wiimote can get a little slippery during gameplay because of sweat. Third-party manufacturers offer latex rubber / silicone controller gloves that fit over the Wii Remote to improve hand grip. I find these gloves are more hassle than they are worth because they are time-consuming, both to put on and to peel back when changing the Wiimote's batteries.

Product Description:

To make gaming as accessible to people of all ages and all abilities, Nintendo wanted to create a controller that was as inviting as it was sophisticated- the result is the Wii Remote. Nintendo fused the global familiarity of a remote control with the sophistication of motion-sensing technology to come up with an input device that differentiates the Wii from any other console that has come before it.

Revolutionary control
Sporting the dimensions of a small traditional remote control, the wireless Wii Remote is a multifunctional device that is limited only by the game designer's imagination. The magic of the Wii Remote's design lies within; acellerometers inside the controller body measure movement in all directions and at all speeds. In a tennis game, it serves as your racket as you swing your arm for a long forehand or a quick and hard backhand. In a 4x4 driving game it serves as a steering wheel, allowing you to swerve to avoid obstacles or pickup power-ups. In first-person shooters, the Wii Remote acts as a firearm that you can point directly at an on-screen enemy. The list of potential uses is enormous, and the light weight of the Wii Remote allows gamers to play for hours without feeling fatigued.

The Wii Remote boasts impressive technology for such a compact package.

All Wii Remote buttons are accessible and responsive. View larger.

Control many games from up to 30 feet away. View larger.

The motion sensing technology is neatly tucked away within the Wii Remote body.View larger.

The remote feels comfortable in both right and left hands. View larger.
As comfortable as it is functional

The Wii Remote is equally comfortable in right and left hands and houses just the right number of buttons for gaming- not so many that new players will get confused, but enough so that Wii games don't feel constrained. On the face of the remote are the D (or "plus") pad, a large "A" button which is used for major on-screen actions, and two small options buttons. Between the game buttons are a plus and minus buttons (which often act as "forwards" and "back"), as well as a "Home" button to engage the Wii home screen to change settings or check remote battery levels. On the back side of the controller is a trigger-like "B" button, perfect for timing releases of a bowling roll in Wii Sports.

Thankfully, battery life is excellent with the two included AA batteries, just as with the previous generation of Nintendo wireless controllers.

Immersive intelligence

Along the bottom of the Wii Remote, four blue LED lights indicate which player position the remote is currently set to. The controller automatically connects to the Wii console via Bluetooth wireless technology. Below the LEDs, an expansion port lets you connect a number of devices including the Nunchuck and Classic controllers for Virtual Console gaming (Virtual Console games and controller accessories sold separately). Other features of the Wii Remote include adjustable rumble force-feedback and a reinforced wrist strap to ensure safe use. A speaker inside the remote gives the player feedback about the strength of swings or the accuracy of their moves- such as realistic tennis noises as the "racket" connects with the ball in Wii Sports. Overall, the physical design of the remote is extremely sturdy and of very high quality, ensuring countless hours of Wii gaming fun!

Ground Control Review

Ground Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like many of the other previous reviewers, I bought the game because the demo was outstanding. I'm finding in practice that the game really doesn't measure up, however.
To Ground Control's credit, this is probably thebest 3D land-based RTS game to come out yet. However, it still doesn'tmanage to escape from a lot of the shortcomings of its fellow 3DRTS's.
The nature of 3D RTS, at least so far, seems to be that units aremore 'realistically' proportional to the terrain. While that may be nice onpaper, in gameplay what it translates to is that you spend hours movingyour units from one place on the map to the other, because they're so smallin proportion to the terrain. In fighting battles, you're obligated to zoomout to such an extent that each unit is only a blip of a few pixels on yourscreen--not much fun to watch or look at while directing the troops.
Idon't find the elimination of resource management to be a plus for GroundControl. What that ends up meaning is that there is no reinforcementavailable for you to build or buy; you can't simply play and have fun ifyou want to try different things in a mission. You have to carefully andtediously position your units so as to incur as few losses as possible. Addto this the fact that there is NO in-game saving in Ground Control, and youfind yourself playing very carefully and tediously indeed.
Topping thisoff, there just isn't a good story happening here to keep you interested. It's mostly told through the thoughts of the two side commanders ratherthan through good character and dialog. The cutscenes are hands-down theworst I've ever seen--they are videos of the game engine, it looks like, and they're so badly compressed that they look like they're being streamedover the web--blocky, blurry, and awful to watch.
On the positive side, the game does look great, especially when you zoom in close to the unitsfighting. It plays better on lower-end systems than other games of itstype, but you'll still need a blistering machine if you want to see it inits full glory.
Be warned also that it's not entirely stable. A patch wasreleased the day after it hit retail, but not all of the bugs are out ofit. One of the worst is that it will crash on completion of a mission, andyou don't get credited with the mission. I've spent more hours replayingbecause of this than I'd care to admit.
As a former Army officer, I thinkthere are some cool tactical things happening in Ground Control thathaven't been modeled well in other games--friendly fire, fire support,formations--but in the end, when all is said and done, I have to say thatthe game just isn't that much fun to play.
You're getting 90% of theexperience in the demo. If it really floats your boat after seeing it, thenmaybe you should try it. Other than that, buyer beware.
