(More customer reviews)As a long-time Macross/Robotech/anime-in-general fan I've been waiting for a game like this for a long time and it's finally here. After the disappointing cancellations of the US releases of Macross VFX 1 and 2 I thought I'd never get my chance to fly a Veritech. So after seeing the limited edition release of this
game I decided to give it a try and it has not dissapointed.
Fans of the series will relish the fact that TDK has created a storyline that is original but at the same time allows you to experience some of the events seen in the TV episodes. Another welcome feature is the return of the voice actors for Roy, Rick, Lisa, and Mynmei to reprise their roles (as well as Max's actor, although he's playing the lead role Jack Archer). Hearing Lisa's voice telling me to go rip it up with the Zentraedi made me feel like a kid again.
But it's not just fanboy appeal that makes this a great game. The cel-shaded graphics look awesome and really enhance the anime atmosphere. Dogfights and ground combat are amazing, with dozens of friendlies and Zentraedi (and scads of missiles) making for a lot of furious and jaw-dropping furballs. The controls are also great and make the transformations into the three modes easy and seamless.
The game is not without faults however. The missions are very creative in design, variety, and execution but can sometimes be frustratingly confusing when it comes to knowing where to go or what to do to complete them successfully. The escort/defense and occasional rescue missions can be maddening as well. And as I said the controls are great but the Guardian and especially the Battloid mode don't really give you the sense of moving in 3-D especially with the camera angle generally staying behind your Veritech and therefore not allowing you to see targets almost directly below or above you (even though you have the gun aimed and firing at them).
Both of these problems - and a few more niggling ones which I'll omit for brevity - are more than outweighed by the overall quality of this game. Admittedly it will most likely appeal to fans, but license aside it's still a great action game that will appeal even to gamers with no knowledge of the anime.
On a side note: True fanboys might be interested in the limited edition version which is exactly the same game but has a bunch of nice swag (such as a soundtrack CD and t-shirt) packaged with it.

Sonic Heroes Review

(More customer reviews)Remember old Sonic on the Megadrive? How it was all about FUN and SPEED, and not the exploration and questing that the latter Dreamcast sequels seemed to have in abundance?
Well, Kids, Sonic is back and better than ever and now, thanks to some extremely brave and very, very well-executed gameplay changes, regains his foothold as the best platform hero in the world, bar none :-)
Granted, it feels all wrong playing Sonic with a PS 2 pad, but I know I speak for us all when I say I'd rather have Sega Games this way than not at all.
Sonic Heroes consists of all the usual levels - Seaside Hill Zone, Casino Nite Zone, etc., but it's in the teamwork where this game excels. Now, instead of just playing as one Hedgehog or one Echidna or one Bat or whatever, you have to employ teamwork across a cast of three characters per level in order to beat the game. There are 4 teams, so 12 playable characters in all - and range from Staples like Team Sonic (Sonic, Knuckles and Tails) to past characters (Rose the Bat, Big the Cat and Espiosa the... purple thing) to downright oddball characters (Charmy the Bee, for instance). On each team, one character is good for speed, one for strength and one for flying, and you do need to make good use of each character to beat the level you're currently playing. Also, the teams are graded in terms of difficulty, so beginners can start with Team Rose and work their way up, frustration-free.
This adds a huge sense of fun to the game, as well as keeping the Sonic concept fresh and exciting: hedgehog-runs-along-flat-plane is dull-dull-dull, but for the speed freaks the bonus levels are all about speed, and highly reminiscent of the Bonus Stages from Sonic 2. Similarly excellent is the presentation, as one would expect from a Sega game - there are a wealth of options to be unlocked, like new modes of play, the fabulous CG movies, different voices for the characters etc. - all of which makes for an excellent gaming experience.
Thoroughly recommended, this is another feather in Sega's cap and one of my personal favourite Sonic games to date. Enjoy!

Need For Speed: Most Wanted Review

(More customer reviews)I just bought the Need for Speed most Wanted game and it's great. It was very hard after blacklist number 11 but as hard as it came even to the challeges all the way up to Black list 1 was worth every dollar. I wish I would of bought the Black Edition in stead of the regular version. It excludes you from 4 cars and I really looked forward to getting the Corvette C6.R at 100% but to realize it's for the Black Edition only along with the Camero 67 and so on But the BMW M3 GTR I thought was the best in the game. So if I were you if you want the full 100% of Most Wanted get the Black Edition don't get the regular version.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Review

(More customer reviews)I wanted to play with this game a full solid week so that I could give a solid review. I could not wait for this game to come out. I am a big Mario Kart fan and have been looking for a game just as good as Mario Kart. I've purchased some other racing games like Speed Racer, Excitebots and Sims Racing. All these games are pretty good but they do not compete with my favorite Mario Kart. That is until now with Sonic & Sega All Star Racing. The similarites to Mario Kart are pretty much the same. You have your Grand Prix Racing that you have to come in top 3 to move on to the next level. You also have your Time Trial Racers. The most fun I have is playing live on Wi Fi with other people. You have different courses like Mario Kart but the racing syle is different. In Sonic it is all about the drift. When you curve around a corner you have to drift. In doing this you get a turbo boost that moves you ahead. You also pick up weapons to use against your opponents like Mario. When you are towards the back of the race you may also get an All Star move, sort of like the Rocket in Mario to move you ahead. So the similarties are really close when it comes to Sonic Vs. Mario. The only difference is learning how to race in a different way than Mario. Also when you are in the air you can flip your vehicle up to 3 x's and this will also give you a Turbo Boost when you land.
Now, what I don't like about this game is that you can't destroy your fellow racers like you can on Mario. You really can't crash into them and knock them off the road. You can use your weapons but that is about it. Mario is more fun when you get your opponents and speed ahead of them. Another thing that they did wrong was when playing the Grand Prix games you cannot quit or leave in the middle of a 4 course game. After each game there is not option to quit. So if you lose your first game and want to restart you are going to have to reboot your wii. Another thing that I don't like about the game is that you play Live you enter a lobby. The first person in the room is in charge of what games you are going to play and you have no say in the matter. You can leave the lobby and come back in but that is a hassle. Also there doesn't seem to be that many people playing live yet. Probably because the game is still new.The last problem I had with the game are alot of error readings when playing live. It seems like I have to wait a long time to get in a game and then sometimes not often I get an error message saying I have been disconnected. I think that it has something to do with that other people have left the race.
All in all I would have to say that this has become one of my favorite games. Is it as good as Mario? No Is it pretty close to Mario? Yes. I have been playing this game every night this week just as much as I do mario and even find it to be a little less frustrating than Mario at times. All in all a must have for any Mario Kart fan.
