Myst Uru: Complete Chronicles Review

Myst Uru: Complete Chronicles

Being a MYST fan, I almost didn't get this because of it going on-line as a type of MMORPG originally and I don't like those games.

But when I saw the this with both expansion packs, I couldn't resist (also had heard by then that the on-line was canceled because of little support). And what a value. There are many hours of gameplay here. It is also pretty hard, so have some patience because some of this hard to figure out.

The graphics are as always fantastic (especially the water. It looks awesome and I think they know it because there is water everywhere in this game). The scenery is more interactive than ever and there are alot of things moving here.

The sounds of the game are very good to, especially with some good headphones. I spent some time looking around checking everything out and I wasn't dissapointed.

You can also change your Avatar (this is a 1st or 3rd person game and you will need to use both) from clothes, to face, to sunglasses. And you will collect more items along the way which you can change in to.

Some of the puzzles were wierd, and they reminded alot of playing Riven which is one of the things I didn't really like as you had to go back and forth alot between ages. But there are many puzzles to solve and this is seamless, so you never know when you are playing Ages Beyond MYST or one of the expansion packs. There are also alot of books to read here (and you have to read them all or you will miss vital clues and answers for some of the puzzles), more than any of the other MYST games (maybe even more than the other 3 put together).

I had alot of fun, and if you are a MYST fan, this is an unbeatable deal.

Myst IV: Revelation Review

Myst IV: Revelation

This is much better than Riven, because it was produced by the Frenchmen at Ubisoft instead of the original Myst and Riven developers in Spokane. The resources and ability in making high quality texture maps, ambient sound nodes, and more convincing sprite animations shows. Also it does not use the real time 3D rendering engine that the horrible-looking Uru uses. everything is pre-rendered. notice water buckets and touch them: water ripples will appear i nthe bucket. How about that! Displacement map animations! It all adds up to a very nicely built immersive experience that really has no peer except for the Journeyman Project Trilogy (which I prefer because of the more intriguing storyline)

Myst IV: Revelation (Limited Edition) Review

Myst is a game in its own catagory. I am not a big game player but Myst has changed all that. All the games in the Myst series are one of a kind, and Revelation is just another part of this great puzzle. The story is very original and, together with the amazing graphics, makes for a complete and intense gamming experience.

Riven: The Sequel to Myst Review

Riven: The Sequel to Myst
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Riven is a visual masterpiece. Set in a beautifully rendered world of still images and animated cut scenes, Riven takes you through an intriguing story and wonderfully creative places. Riven isn't just a pretty gamethough... it is composed of challenging (and often frustrating) interactivepuzzles that must be solved to complete the game.
If you've played gameslike the 7th Guest, or Myst, you'll find Riven challenging. If you've neverplayed any puzzle-based games before, you'll find Riven insanely hard. Ifyou are not familiar with interactive puzzles, I would highly recommendstarting with Myst. Not only is it easier and almost as beautifullyrendered as Riven, but it'll do a great job priming you for the moredifficult puzzles you'll encounter in this game.
While I cannot praisethe creators of Riven enough for the depth of their creativity, I cannotrecommend this game to just anyone. Riven is perfect for the avid puzzlesolver, but much too difficult for the casual game player. Younger children(and most teens) may lose interest in this game very quickly, as thepuzzles will often stop a player dead in their tracks until they can musterup the brainpower to figure them out. If you're looking for action, thisisn't the place you'll find it.
On the other hand, Riven contains noviolence, and is definitely a game that will make you think. You can't saythat about many games these days, which is one of the reasons why this gameis perfectly suited for a more cognitive crowd.
Riven gets four out offive stars because I believe that some puzzles may be out of the reach ofmost people without the use of a hint book. Regardless of this drawback,it's one of the best games in it's class... and I highly recommend it.

Myst 3: Exile Review

Myst 3: Exile
Average Reviews:

I realize Ubisoft, not Cyan, made the third Myst game, but they really pulled off an excellent experience for us Myst fans.I got the collector's edition two days after it came out, and HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the first two, Myst and Riven.
Graphically, the freedom and playability are top-quality.You can actually move around while videos play, and turn 360 degrees plus full up and down at every location. The puzzles easily integrate into the story.Sound and music are superb, and in my opinion, the music tends to make the Myst games a top seller. They put a lot of work into that part of these games.
As for story, without any spoilers, they are utterly faithful to the D'ni history. You face a new (old?) adversary of Atrus, and he brings a new depth to the story. If this has been a concern, rest easy.Exile continues and expands the familiar issues of Atrus and his ages.
I have two small criticisms of the game, but I will only give one so the game won't be spoiled for you.It was way too easy, too fast. This could be because I finally understand how these people think, and nearly walked through most of the game.I don't know for sure.Myst and Riven took me over 9 months with the hint book.Exile took me three weeks without the hint book.Don't be discouraged, that could just be "ME" finally "getting it!"
Overall, Exile is a fine addition to the D'ni universe, and I hope to see future episodes of this amazing world. The puzzles, music, characters, and ease of game play will keep you spellbound right to the end.
I should add that people who were let down by the ending to Myst (including me), and grateful for a much improved ending to Riven, will be in for a great surprise at the end of Exile! The finale makes you feel like a real winner, and certainly leaves the door open for future Myst games.Highly Recommended!

Myst Trilogy (Myst Masterpiece, Riven, Myst III - Exile) Review

Myst Trilogy
Average Reviews:

Like a complete nincompoop, I bought this thing without visiting UBI Soft's website first.DO NOT try to run Myst Masterpiece Edition on a Windows XP machine. It will make things very unstable. At least, it did for me.Fortunately, I was able to reboot using the last known good configuration, then uninstalled the miscreant software and performed a System Restore. My machine appears to be fine now.
A visit to the FAQ page on UBI Soft's support site informed me that they do not support Windows 2000 or XP for their "classic" games, nor do they have plans to do so.So why are they selling a brand new boxed set of the most popular game trilogy in the history of the world without a warning? When they say "For Windows 95 or 98", they mean ONLY Windows 95 or 98.They didn't even mention Millennium Edition, that I could see!
Practically all new computers sold in the past six months have come with Windows XP, so I'm guessing there are going to be lots of very unhappy campers, if my experience is any guide.
Need I say more?
