(More customer reviews)I did not purchase this mouse for gaming, but instead bought it for its high DPI -- without running the driver software the mouse can switch between 800 and 1600 DPI. The special driver software is not available for Mac, which is the platform I use.

Over the years I've learned to eliminate my mouse-related cramps/pains by using the fastest mice and drivers available. I formerly used the Logitech Mx300 (an 800 DPI mouse) with USB Overdrive (A third-party Mac driver) at the fastest DPI setting (80 DPI) -- All fine for a few years, but I had to live with the mouse skipping pixels when I tried to be precise with it -- that made PhotoShop work sometimes frustrating.

This mouse has the same form-factor as my older Logitech mouse, which was the other reason I considered switching. (Logitech seems to have carried on this form-factor through the years, and I hope they stick with it.) It tracks very well without a mouse pad (I'm using on a Birch veneer IKEA desktop) and the 1600 DPI mode makes for really, really, precise movement -- no more skipping pixels. Since I keep the mouse on the highest setting all the time, I can slow it down with the top button when I need extra precision.

I've only been using the mouse a few days, but I've noticed a few gotcha's: First, my former Mx300 had a metal weight in the mouse. This was easy enough to remove, as the screw hole was exposed. Not so on the G3. It feels like there's a weight in there, but the screw access is probably under the pads. Fortunately, the pads are really, really slick, so it's probably not going to be a problem until they get scratched up a bit and the responsiveness goes down. Anyone concerned about getting a stiff or cramped wrist from mousing would be wise to remove the metal weights from their mice -- IMHO, The Man put them in there to make you work harder! Ahem...

Next, when upgrading from an 800 to 1600 dpi mouse, the 'mouse acceleration' is not 1:1 -- I can't quite set my mouse driver (third party or OS X driver) to 'feel' the same as my old mouse -- it's a wee bit off.

Third, the cord is a bit stiff -- definitely stiffer than the Mx300's cord, or my default Apple mouse cord. You can feel it resist when using the mouse, tugging at your hand a bit. I'm hoping it wears in.

Also, the little middle button is not reprogrammable, as it is on my Mx300 (the mouse has the same form-factor, except the G3 has two additional side buttons) -- it's a hard-wired toggle between 800 & 1600 DPI (when not running the driver software). I don't know if it reprogrammable if you're running the Logitec software, but it's at least something Mac users should consider.

Finally, this mouse touts a non-slip grip, which I would say it definitely has. However, it feels a bit abrasive on my finger tips -- feeling a bit like "rubberized emery-cloth." I doesn't just give traction, but feels like there are gritty particles on the surface. Bleh. Maybe years of sitting at my desk and writing software for 14 hours a day left me with sensitive fingers tips, I guess?

Ideally, I'd rate this mouse between a 3 and a 4. I'm hoping the little niggling things, like the stiff cord and the abrasive grip sides, wear in after a while. However, precision and sensitivity are what this mouse does well, so I'm willing to forgo 3 stars and give it 4 -- I like it, but I don't love it.

(More customer reviews)Let me start off by saying that this is an awesome mouse. From the moment I took it out of the package, I loved the way it felt in my hand. I hold my mouse in a kind of hybrid style, I will actively switch between a "claw" style grip and a "palm" style grip while gaming/surfing or whatever i'm doing, and it feels great no matter how I grip it.The buttons have a nice sold click too them, not too hard, but just enough to eliminate any accidental clicks, which has been a problem for me with many mice (mouses?). the scroll wheel is great too, has a good solid feedback and has a nice clicky feel to it (no audible click but you can definitely tell when you have gone up or down a notch). The side buttons are well placed on the left side of the mouse, the right side, I had some issues with mis-clicking for the first day, and after that my grip had self adjusted to put my fingers just far enough away from it to prevent mis-clicks (I mean self adjusted as in i made no conscious effort to adjust my grip, i just noticed after the second day that I had stopped accidentally clicking the buttons). The DPI switch button is well placed, easy to press and fairly hard to mis-click. The glides on this mouse are some of the best that I have ever used, very smooth without feeling too slippery. The laser is dead accurate, I run a mid-high DPI setting for most of the things that I do, typically in the 1700-2100 range. While photoshopping I find it effortless to hold the cursor withing 1 pixel, while drawing a line, over seemingly endless distances without the slightest bit of jitter or pull (this is without using any of the software aides that make the cursor move "smoother" or "straighter").

However, the greatness of the hardware does not translate into the software for this mouse unfortunately. With the first Xai I got from amazon (it had a USP issue and kept turning off and resetting itself every 5 minutes or so) I installed the software from Steelseries' website and found it to be, well, crap. I found values kept resetting themselves and the hardware update that it installed into my mouse seemed to create more issues that had not been there before. So with my second Xai, i decided to forgo the software, and simply set up the mouse using the LCD on the bottom of the mouse. The process was fairly intuitive considering you are only using the scroll wheel to navigate the menu, although it did take a little longer to set it up this way. Overall this is an amazing mouse with the only real negative being the software. I give the mouse a 6/5 from the hardware standpoint and a 1/5 for software.

OK, if you don't want to read that wall of text, here's a sum-up

Pros:
+Great overall feel to the mouse
+Buttons have a good click to them and are well placed
+Great glides
+Best laser engine I have used
+Able to easily adjust settings without software

Cons:
-Software sucks

I would strongly recommend to anyone buying this mouse to avoid the software like the plague, just take the time to set it up using the handy LCD screen on the bottom and you will be much happier!

The problem has always been that my right hand ring finger would hang off the side of the mouse and drag on the mouse pad. After many years of gaming and working abuse, my fingers have developed different forms of tendentious.Currently, it affects my ring finger the most, simply because it sits so much lower than my other fingers. This started my search for a new, more comfortable mouse.

It is well known that computer products designed for gamers are also designed with ergonomics in mind.The gamer is known to play for hours - the mouse needs to be able to support the hand position and its movement for all those hours. I chose the Logitech G5 for many reasons. First, the shape of the mouse now puts my irritated ring finger on the mouse itself - it no longer drags on the side. The mouse happens to be shaped better for my hand, so I cup the entire thing. This removed the necessity for severe wrist movement while operating the mouse.I can use my arm more than anything.

A few things separate this mouse from anything else I have every used.First, it is a laser mouse.It is leaps and bounds above an optical mouse.It is capable of 2000 dpi, which is an extremely fast movement - faster than anyone really needs.But at about 800 dpi, the mouse is perfect to control. Since the dpi is customizable, you can configure it to your liking. The bottom line is that you don't need much effort to move this mouse to where you want to go. This saves countless amounts of stress on your arm and hand as you work the computer.Less effort = less stress.So far, I can play a game for hours without my ring finger throbbing in pain.

This mouse also has a dpi control feature.You can use the software to set up to 5 dpi settings, which means you can change the sensitivity of the mouse on the fly. Playing a first person game with a sniper rifle and want absolute control? Drop it down a few dpi. Working in Photoshop doing pixel by pixel touch up or working on the details in Autocad? Drop the dpi down a notch.Want to speed up for web surfing?Click the button up and your mouse will go much faster.You can set any dpi by using the software and change its mode whenever and wherever you need it by using the buttons on the mouse.

The mouse wheel is a typical wheel, but with the added feature of left and right movement. Now you can scroll left and right and up and down within one web page. This is also very useful in Photoshop and the web.

The mouse also comes with a weight control system. I thought this was a gimmick, but it turns out to be very clever.You can add weight to a cartridge then slip it into the mouse to make it heavier. Some people, especially those who are used to wireless mice will find that this makes it feel like there are batteries. Personally, I keep the cartridge empty, but I like the option and it very well designed.If I want to make it heavier for very precise work (like Photoshop), it will only take seconds to make the mouse heavier.

One reviewer who wrote about this product gave it a bad review because of how the mouse worked within games. His arguments are somewhat valid.If you start a game, it will only recognize the two main mouse buttons (left and right).However, if you explore the mouse software and all its abilities, you will find that you CAN customize the mouse and its buttons and have it work in any game (even the thumb button). You do this by going to the Advanced Game Settings and actually finding the .EXE file that runs the game. Adding it to the list will unlock all the mouse functions within the game. I don't know why Logitech made it this way, and it is certainly a pain-in-the-neck to do for each game, but I know it works and I don't want people to not buy this fantastic mouse because of what was previously written. In addition, the person reviewing this mouse stated that he was missing his targets and icons on his computer.That has happened to me too, and I found that if you turn off "mouse acceleration" and the "smart mouse" options, the mouse moves at a legitimate speed. Once I turned those off, I can hit my target with precision.

The bottom line is that the mouse software is very complex and needs to be explored in order to get the full potential from this mouse.Most gamers will be able to do this and Logitech does provide a help button on every menu. Once configured, this is a dream mouse.It is easy to use and contoured perfectly for my hand. If you are looking for a mouse to help ease your pain, then this is it. If you are looking for a mouse to increase your gaming performance, than buy this mouse now.I have already increased my accuracy in Half-Life 2 and F.E.A.R. because of the laser and the control over the dpi. I have been very happy with the mouse and I recommend it to all PC users.The only negative - it does not come with MAC OSX software and Logitech does not have any of their website, so I will have to wait to upgrade my mouse at work. Otherwise, this is a perfect mouse - well designed, well made, and very, very precise.

Logitech G5 Laser Mouse (Blue/Black) Review

(More customer reviews)This is a very nice and well built mouse. As soon as you use it, you can tell that it's very well made. The new surface used on this model is very nice, non slip and does not attract fingerprints, unlike the earlier 6 button version of the G5

The option of changing the weight of the mouse seems gimmicky at first, but as soon as you start to experiment with the weights, you'll see that it's actually quite usefull.

The mouse tracks very well and the on-the-fly DPI changing works flawlessly. Also it glides very nicely which is even more emphasized when using a good mouse pad.

The reason I gave this mouse 4 instead of 5 stars is simply that the shape of the mouse will not suite every gamer. It is an awesome device for anyone using a palm or finger grip on their mouse, but someone (like me) that prefers the claw grip, mainly used in FPS games will find it a bit uncomfortable. You can get used to it though.
Also, the scroll wheel is a bit annoying. It would be better if it was a little wider and didn't have this utterly useless side scrolling function, which makes it a bit awkward to depress it.

All in all this is a great gaming mouse that is worth the money it costs. Every angle of it screams quality.
Just try and take it for a "test drive" before you buy it so you can make sure it's comfortable to you.

Logitech Wireless Gaming Mouse G700 Review

(More customer reviews)Does Logitech ever sleep?They seem to churn out new and improved peripherals at an unsustainable pace.Yet, here we are.The long-time peripheral maker is at it again and has unleashed the Kraken upon the PC gaming world.The new Logitech wireless G700 gaming mouse is most definitely a monster.In a good way.

PROS:
- Highly accurate tracking (5700dpi max)
- User replaceable AA rechargeable Eneloop battery
- 13 programmable buttons for each of 5 profiles
- Matte finish easy to grip
- Reasonably comfortable
- Hybrid mouse (corded mousing ability)
- Includes USB extension cable for wireless receiver

CONS:
- Charge only via powered USB port
- On the heavy side
- Slightly elevated slope might be uncomfortable to some
- Does not include a unifying receiver

Sometimes the packaging tells you everything about the product.I have owned countless Logitech mice and I'm very familiar with the packaging.A nice touch on the G700 is a tab that allows you to slide everything out of the box more easily without trashing the box.The G700 for me, is a replacement for my wired Logitech G9 Mouse, which replaced my older wireless Logitech G7 Mouse.I had used the G9 in conjunction with a Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse, but I can safely say I no longer need 2 different mice for gaming and for general use.

COMFORT
The G700 is nearly as comfortable as the MX Revolution, to me.The G700 however, is higher at the peak of it's slope, with a higher backside than the MX Revolution.My fingers do not rest as comfortably down on the left/right buttons because my palm is more elevated than on the MX Revolution.It is more substantial than the G9 but more comfortable in my opinion.The one thing I wish were still possible in the G700 is the adjustable weight system that the G9 used.It's a bit on the heavy side and I would have preferred being able to set my own weight.

TRACKING
If you're a spec geek, you'll be happy to know that the tracking resolution on the G700 is a bountiful 5700 dpi.The G7 was rated at 2000 dpi and the G9 at 3200 dpi.I'm not sure why they couldn't use their Darkfield Laser technology on the G700.Perhaps it was a required compromise to keep the cost down from the already hefty price tag or perhaps it's not even possible.The Logitech Performance Mouse MX's resolution is still good at 1500 dpi, but not quite up to par with most gaming mice.Regardless, I had no problems tracking with the G700 and on-the-fly dpi changes were quick and easy.

There have been some chatter online about the G700 having problems with small, precise movements that are key to FPS games.I can say confidently that I don't have these problems.The SetPoint software I downloaded from Logitech did apply an update to the mouse though, so perhaps it was a firmware update to address this issue.I'm currently on firmware version 22.35.

CUSTOMIZATION
I have to say that the individually sculpted buttons on the G700 have been done as tasteful as you could want for a mouse with THIRTEEN buttons.There are 4 by the thumb, 3 by the forefinger, 3 for the scroll wheel, 1 under the scroll wheel, and of course, the left and right buttons.The scroll wheel is the highly vaunted hyper-fast scroll wheel that can scroll freely.The button directly under the wheel allows you to easily switch to the ratcheting style scroll and back.All the buttons are placed in easy to reach positions and all are customizable with the SetPoint software.

The G700-specific SetPoint options are separated from the keyboard so you won't see a tab for it if you happen to use a Logitech keyboard as well.The options in SetPoint are laid out well and easy to configure.From what I can tell, once you have written the configurations to the mouse's memory, you can use them on any computer without SetPoint.Great for LAN parties if you don't travel with your own rig.By default, the G700 comes with 3 profiles in which you can set different functions for each button.You can even add 2 more profiles, giving you a total of 5 profiles of 13 functions.That equates to a possible 65 different functions for your mouse.A mouse!You can keep track of which profile you are using with the LED indicators on the side.

WIRELESS PERFORMANCE
It's been a long time since I have had a wireless Logitech mouse give me problems with lag or stuttering and the G700 is no exception.I placed the nano receiver into the back of my desktop computer, which is located on the floor, under my desk.Logitech includes an extension cradle for receiver use, but I didn't need to use it.I have a cordless phone on the same desk as well as a single-band wireless N router.

BATTERY LIFE
Logitech gets bonus points from me for their innovation in the battery department here.First, the rechargeable battery is not only removable, but it's a standard AA NiMH battery that you can pick up for a buck or two anywhere.But wait, there's more!I flipped open the battery compartment to replace the rechargeable with my own Sanyo Eneloop low self-discharge battery and what did I see?A Sanyo Eneloop low self-discharge battery already IN the mouse!Now that is what I'm talkin' `bout Willis!It was low out of the box however so I needed to charge it right away.The battery in the old G7 mouse was actually quite a pain.It was a proprietary battery that you would swap out of the charging receiver, daily.Not only that, but replacements were impossible to find from Logitech.I'm not finished; the innovation doesn't stop there!Logitech included a micro-USB charging cable that inserts quickly and easily into the front of the G700 so that you can use it as a wired mouse while the battery is charging!Though Logitech marketing elected not to call it a hybrid mouse, that's exactly what the G700 is.Apparently the more expensive Razer Mamba has this hybrid ability as well.As should be expected, battery life doesn't come close to matching the old MX Revolution.However, the added flexibility of user replaceable batteries along with the charging/data cord option makes up for the shorter life, in my opinion.

MISC
I like the rough matte finish on the G700 as a matter of personal taste.It doesn't look as classy as my MX Revolution, but it also doesn't smudge like the MX Revolution.My one hope is that the finish doesn't peel like the precision grip on the G9 often did.

The other thing I noticed is that the nano receiver is not a unifying receiver.The unifying receiver is something Logitech has been touting heavily for the past year or two.This would have been nice in case you were using a Logitech wireless keyboard too, since the G700 already takes up 2 USB ports.I figure that Logitech wanted to avoid any complaints about performance due to sharing the bandwidth of a single USB port so they elected to leave out the unifying feature for their gaming hardware.

SUMMARY
The Logitech Wireless Gaming Mouse G700 is a fantastic wireless gaming mouse, especially for MMORPG games.It works well enough to also be a great everyday mouse.If you're really happy with your current mouse, I'm not sure it's worth forking down the Benjamin for the G700.But, if you don't like your curent mouse for some reason or it's on it's last legs, I say go for it.Sure, it could be lighter and more comfortable and have better battery life, but you're also gaining so much more.I personally have packed up my G9 and MX Revolution.In fact, I'd been holding off on getting Starcraft II for a while now and it looks like I have a great reason to finally go get it.

Logitech G500 Programmable Gaming Mouse Review

(More customer reviews)This is easily the best Logitech mouse yet.I own both the G5 and G9, and settled on the G5 as my primary mouse some time ago after hating the grip of the G9 (neither one felt natural to me).This was a problem, since I felt the G9 performed better but it just wasn't comfortable.As a result, I'm going to compare the G500 to the G5.

On the ergonomic side the G500 has had the ridge on the upper-right whittled down, making the mouse far more comfortable--especially if you hold your middle finger on the right mouse button (instead of the ring finger as some people do).This gives your ring finger a much more natural place to rest.The palm rest also feels a bit wider and raised, making the palm grip even better than the G5.Thumb button placement is fine, though I preferred the larger G5 buttons.Sensitivity toggles have moved to the upper left, making changes easier while using the index finger.Logitech has also blessed us with a mouse wheel toggle (free spin/click) that is on the top of the mouse instead of the bottom as they did on the G9.This is a huge plus for me, as I run it in free mode while browsing and click mode when gaming and I tend to alternate between the two regularly.

Performance-wise, it's technically better than the G9 and noticeably superior to the G5.The Setpoint software that is used with the G500 is also different from that of the G5, allowing for more control over the mouse.For those curious about performance in specific gaming genres I can't comment--I play almost every game genre and feel this mouse excels at them all.I'm also using it on a RAZER Goliathus Control mouse pad which is nice and smooth without feeling like there's zero friction as I tend to like some drag on my mouse.

One other note: The G5 weight cage will not work in the G500.The cage in the G500 has been altered a bit; two weight slots have been removed and the alignment track is gone.The G500 uses the same weights as the G5, however (1.7g and 4.5g).I'd recommend this mouse to any G5 owner without hesitation.If you're a claw-grip user you could still use it, but the G9x is probably a better choice for that style of usage.
