Mario Party 3 Review

Mario Party 3

Well, let me start by saying that you won't fully appreciate this game unless you've played the first two. The original Mario Party was insanely difficult and didn't offer you a whole lot of choices other than roll and hope you don't get screwed, since it seemed like Bowser was everywhere. In Mario Party 2, items were introduced and alternate game modes. You only got to carry one item and they were insanely expensive. Then came Mario Party 3. Well, let me say, I've never seen a game evolve so much from one sequel to the next.
You will enjoy this game if you've ever played a real-life board game with friends or family. Most living, breathing beings who enjoy a little friendly competition with an interactive backdrop will enjoy this game. Even if you lose, which you will from time to time, it's still a lot of fun. I've only explored the battle royal mode, which is just a fancy name for the regular multiplayer mode, and haven't had a chance to explore the other modes. This mode alone makes the game worthwhile. Even if you don't have anyone to play against, its still fun as a one-player game. How so? Well, for starters, it takes four players to play battle royal mode. If you're short, you can substitute a computer player, so essentially, this is a 1-4 player game. Two new characters have been added, Daisy and Waluigi (both from Mario Golf), for a total of eight characters to choose from.
The single defining quality of this game is that now you can save your game file.... The creators had foresight enough to leave three spaces for saving games under a file name. If you're in the middle of a game, you can go to the options menu and choose "Don't Save", "Save After This Turn", or "Save After Every Turn". That alone is beautiful, no longer do you have to sit and finish a 50-turn game, which could take over two hours to finish. In addition, you can set the speed of the messages and actual gameplay. That helps if you're in a hurry and want to get a quick game in.
Now here is probably one of the most useful features of the game, that isn't explicitly stated in the instruction manual. Say four of you are playing and somebody has to leave. Simply pause the game, and there is a menu option that lets you switch players back and forth between human and computer. Say that person is only gone for a few turns, then pause and switch them back to human when they return....
Also, we've gone from no items, to one item, to being able to carry up to three items at the same time. In addition, the prices have dropped sharply, unlike the real world. That's because there were only a handful of items in MP2. Now there are about double if not more and a lot more opportunities to acquire them. The items are what really make the game unpredictable. That coupled with Chance Time and Hidden Blocks makes it truly anybody's game. Don't worry if one player is dominant at most of the minigames. There is still the possibility of outsmarting them for the win. Some of the new items are truly evil in nature and others very practical and well-thought out. For example, the Boo Repellent is essential for keeping the kleptomaniac apparition at bay. The Cellular Shopper lets you buy an item at any place on the board, on your turn. In addition, there's item that lets you call Bowser and sick 'em on somebody of your choosing, a lamp that moves the star at random, a mushroom that makes someone you choose move backward for one turn, etc. The list goes on and on. The unpredictability of MP3 as opposed to MP2 makes the game incredibly more fun.
Simply put, if you like board games then you'll love this. It is truly a party. Worth every bit of the ... I paid. Nintendo certainly knows how to improve upon its predecessor titles. Go get it!

Product Description:
Mario, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and all your favorite characters are back in Mario Party 3. This game features 70 minigames that make you use your N64 controller in ways you never thought imaginable. Like its predecessors, up to four people can participate in five areas in board-game-style play. As you traverse the board, you'll have your chances to compete in the aforementioned minigames. Then it's all about button mashing and analog-stick twisting. The gamepad techniques are easily explained, but some of them are tougher than they look. The single-player story mode is an absolute chore filled with as much watching as playing. You're not supposed to play this game alone, hence the word "party" in the title. Multiplayer modes include party, battle royal, and duel. The first two are the basic free-for-alls found in previous games, while duel mode is an interesting addition that combines elements from Othello and Monopoly with the minigames. The various modes help shorten multiplayer game time, which was a problem in previous versions. Mario Party 3 continues the series' tradition of being the top dog of party games. With its numerous easy-to-learn minigames, it's perfect for when you and your friend are looking for quick, mindless fun. --Raymond M. Padilla

Mario Party 2 Review

Far superior to mario party 1. I think my wife and I enjoy playing more than my 6 and 11 year old. Unlike the first Mario party you aren't penalized any coins for losing mini games, which makes it lessdissapointing for the kids. The new boards are original and fun to play(with the exception of mystery land which is like running around incircles). Buying the special items adds an entirely new dimension to thegame and allows players to really use strategy to win. I also appreciatethat no mini games require spinning the joystick. No more unsightly handindentations
By far the best Nintendo game to date.

Every good game deserves a sequel, and the addictive, quirky Mario Party 2 certainly fills the bill. This multiplayer party title combines the gameplay of a traditional dice-based board game with several brief action-game segments, including updated versions of 20 of the best offerings from the original Mario Party. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Review

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island

(...) Instead of Mario and Luigi being the stars this time around, a group of Yoshis are the main characters.Baby Luigi has been kidnapped by the all-mighty Bowser, so it's up to Baby Mario and Yoshi to try and rescue Baby Luigi. That's right, Mario and Luigi are babies in Yoshi's Island. And there's not a princess to rescue for once.
Yoshi's Island includes 6 huge worlds that are loaded with many unique and interesting levels. There are 10 levels in each world. Each world has a mini-boss and a major boss that you must track down and defeat. (...)All you really have to do is get to the end of each of level and defeat all the bosses in order to beat the game.
On top of all of the fun gameplay, you can also add great graphics, sound, control, and replay value to Yoshi's Island's list.Just about every environment in Yoshi's Island is a treasure to look at.All the characters are well designed, and the backgrounds can range from crystal caves that flash, 3D-looking mountains, to eye-popping waterfalls made of water or lava.As for sound, most of the sound effects are cartoonish, but well done. Many of the music tunes are catchy, and none of them are bad.Control wise, Yoshi's Island is very easy to control. The controls aren't sluggish or overly responsive; it's easy to do anything in this game.
Finally, the replay value and fun factor are top notch for Yoshi's Island. The six years I've owned Yoshi's Island, I've started from the beginning, went all the way through the six worlds' levels, and beat the game several times, and I still haven't got tired of playing it.And I don't think I ever will! This game is THAT fun.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is, in my opinion, one of the best video games that have ever been made.Even though it's so much different from all the other Mario games that have ever been made, it is still a GREAT game.To make it short, this game is a classic! If you have a Super Nintendo and you like action/adventure games or Super Mario World, you've got to add Yoshi's Island to your collection!

Super Mario Sunshine Review

Super Mario Sunshine

Wow, after getting this game when it came out and playing it for two weeks, I am still amazed by it. Nintendo has once again delivered a huge hit that will be enjoyed by fans for a long time. Let's get to the basics.
Story- What's this? The princess being saved ISN'T the main part of the story? Well, she does get kidnapped a few times(I guess it was unavoidable...) but the game offers a fresh plot. Mario tries to have a relaxing vacation, but before he even arrives, Shadow Mario, his archenemy, as been wreaking havoc on Isle Delfino, where Mario plans to relax. Unfortunately, the town artist's drawing of Shadow Mario is in black and white, so all the people think Mario is guilty. His punishment is to clean up the town, and with that, his good name.
Graphics- While not the best on the GameCube, these are very nice graphics that remind me of the days of Super Mario 64 on the N64. There are some nice touches, too, that add to the gameplay, such as enemies exploding or Piantas(residents of the island) celebrating when you free them from Shadow Mario's paint. Very few, if any, graphical flaws make this one beautiful game to look at. 9/10
Control- The controls are very easy to learn and very hard to forget. Once you get down jumping much of the controls are already learned, and the rest of them are really simple, too. The one bad part is the camera, which you have to manually control, making it difficult in some areas, but that's not too much of a problem in most cases. 9/10
Gameplay- Finding all 120 Shine Sprites or those few coins, whatever your task may be, Super Mario Sunshine is a blast to play. You could be surfing on Bloopers or hanging from fences, even riding a roller coaster while destroying a mechanical Bowser(did it come back from Paper Mario?) and all the while you'll be having fun, which is what the game is all about. 10/10
Satisfaction- This game is definitely worth the money for it. Best of all, all of these intricate worlds and characters only take up 7 blocks of memory on your memory card, making it very easy to save. You will not regret purchasing this game, in fact, I've even seen some people get GameCubes simply to own this game. 9.5/10
Sound- The familiar sounds and grunts, along with some cutscenes with full voice features of Mario, the Princess, and any other characters around at the time. The music isn't obtrusive and is familiar of a Mario game. 8.75/10
Overall- This is what Luigi's Mansion was shooting for. They got everything right that was wrong before. The one thing that may discourage players is the aforementioned camera, but in the long run, the tasks are fun enough that even if the camera causes you to fall, you'll just want to climb back up again. Super Mario Sunshine, while reminiscient of the Super Mario 64 game, is a whole new adventure that's loads of fun to play and well worth the time to complete it. Have fun(which you will with this game) and happy gaming. 9.75/10
