Donkey Kong Country 2 Review

In the original Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong went on an adventure to try and get their mounds of bananas back, but this second adventure will be a bit different.
The Kongs' biggest villain, Kaptain K. Rool (a huge crocodile) has taken Donkey Kong as a hostage, so it's up to Diddy Kong and his girlfriend, Dixie Kong, to get him back.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest is a lot like Donkey Kong Country, except that it's even better. It didn't seem possible at the time for a 16-bit game, but this one has even better graphics than the original, better sound effects and music, and it's even more fun. There are new, helpful characters such as Wrinkly Kong (who saves your game), new animal buddies such as a snake with major hangtime, an awesome spider who has really got the science of web-making down to an art, and Rambi the rhino and Enguarde the swordfish are back and better than ever!Oh yeah, Dixie Kong is new too.She can twirl her head full of hair, which enables her to fight the force of gravity for a little while.
But what really makes Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest even better than the original is that it has more levels, and a lot more variety. There are even more secrets, more gameplay elements, and bigger and meaner bosses. When it comes to gameplay, the levels are more interactive, and there are a lot more things to collect and do.Instead of just collecting tons of bananas and extra lives (there's still a bunch of those waiting to be collected), there are 75 Kremcoins, a specially hidden DK coin in each level, and more, that gives this game unbelievable replay value.
Just like Donkey Kong Country, Diddy's Kong Quest is a 1-2 player game. You can play by yourself, or you can play with a friend in either competition mode or team mode.
In my book, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest is the best game in the series, and not only is it one of the best games for the Super Nintendo, and one of the best platformers, it's one of the best video games of all time.If you liked the original, or if you like action/adventure games that never get old, I recommend getting Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. You will NOT regret it!

First of all, I'd like to say that overall, the SNES version of this game is what I'd recommend; while it was a pretty good decision to make DKC3 available for the GBA. it still does not live up to its SNES twin's expectations.

First of all, the plot is the same as SNES: DK and Diddy were kidnapped by K.Rool and it's your job to save them.So I won't go into the story. The controls, music, and sound are what really bother me.

The controls: well, I played this game on the DS.Its controls on the DS are maddening; when I expect to run, I jump. When I try to use Dixie's hair whip, I jump instead.Although DS' control layout is different from the GBA's, it is not the system at fault; it's the game. After all, on the back of the game box, it says only for DS and GBA; you'd think that Rareware would try to make the controls suit both systems. But instead, it takes around ten minutes to beat each level as you are struggling with the silly control layout.
The music.YIKES.Try the winter level on the first world; what the heck, are there drunk monks singing in the background? On the SNES version, the music was great; it played along with the level's surroundings and whatnot.in this game, it is as if the music is meant for 3-year-olds.It is too happy.Even on the gloomiest of levels, music remains happy and friendly. The overworld music is the only piece I remotely enjoy listening to.
The sound effects are really annoying. Those kremlings that hop on their tails...those sound effects make me want to mute the game. The sliding kremlings on the winter levels...thew sound is so out of place. All the sound effects are so lame and goofy, again--is this game meant for toddlers or what?

Overall, the game was an okay transfer from one system to another--but I would recommend the SNES version over the GBA one anyday.

Before this game came out in the 90's I remember seeing a video about it.I knew I had to have it, and bought it immediately upon release. The graphics were absolutely stunning, and are even pretty good by today's standards. The storyline was great and the characters instant classics. And so when I got my Wii one of the first things I did was download this game--one of the best I've ever played in over 20 years of gaming.
Needless to say this excellent game has stood the test of time.It is side-scrolling--pre 3-D--but that is one of the game's strengths in my opinion. There are some incredibly difficult levels (the mine cars are very tough), but the game is not impossible to beat and provides just enough challenge to really absorb you in it.Control is fairly simple but another plus--you don't need a whole slew of button combos to master this game, just some dexterity and practice.
I would recommend this game either on the Super NES or as a virtual game for the Wii.Whereas some older games are good just for their nostalgia factor, DK Country is certainly one that can be played and enjoyed even 13 or so years after it's original release.
