(More customer reviews)Many reviews have already described all of the new interactions and items that come with this expansion pack, so I'll focus on some of the things that may not be mentioned that I would have wanted to know before buying it.
1. Overall I would say this expansion involves more work than the others. Becoming famous is an all consuming occupation leaving your Sims little time for anything else. Sims must spend countless hours in Studiotown.
2. The game cannot be saved while a Sim is in Studiotown (much like the downtown area of Hot Date). This is a problem if you experience frequent crashes with your game. I find I need to take my Sim home where I can save the game every time he/she has raised their fame score, so that I don't lose it because of a crash. This is time consuming.
3. Sims run out of energy very quickly in Studiotown so not much can be accomplished in each visit. (only one visit is allowed per day)
4. Sims need famous friends in order to become famous. I find it very difficult to make friends with these famous Sims, the friendship scores don't seem to increase as quickly as with regular Sims.
5. This one only applies if you have downloaded objects from online Sims sites: I have a user-created teleporter in my game, and it no longer works. The game crashes whenever I try to use it. This forces me to use the phone to invite other Sims over, leaving it up to chance rather than being able to import them at will. (Much harder to increase the friendship score this way). Teleporters worked with every other expansion pack, but not Superstar as of yet (hopefully someone will fix this).
I don't mean to point out only the negative aspects of the game, I do enjoy this game but am a little disappointed that it takes so much more work than I had expected. I do love all of the new interactions that are available, and like watching my Sims sing, act or model.I'm still looking forward to an obsessed fan following my famous Sim home. My Sims don't have a high enough fame score for that yet :) (Also, there aren't really 3 separate career paths, Sims access all of the items one at a time as their fame score increases, so they are essentially rock stars, actors and models).
Overall, if you love the Sims, you'll love this expansion pack as well. But be prepared to spend a lot of time trying to become famous.

The Sims Makin' Magic Expansion Pack Review

I haven't written a review on this game sooner because I've been having too much fun PLAYING it since the day it came out!!In my opinion, this is probably the best Sims expansion pack yet.I have enjoyed every pack though, none of them were bad.This one just has so many fun new items, the new spells are a BLAST, and Magic Town is just a hoot.
Some of the cool new features:
*Magic Town*
This place rocks!Not only can you buy stuff, you can take a ride on a rollercoaster, do quests for the merchants (and get handsomely rewarded!), perform magic tricks for magicoins, and so much more!
*New Spells*
The spells are the coolest part of the expansion pack, no questions on that!Sometimes the funnest part is making your spell fail!And there are just so many fun little easter eggs thrown in.. like when your "Horn of Plenty" spell fails.. you can run around kissing all the frogs (frog prince perhaps?? ;)Also you can use the Enchant spell to turn your gnomes in to great gardners (just be wary of casting the Perfect Garden spell when you have live gnomes!).
*New Items*
WOW they added a lot of new items!!You can grow your own grapes and elderberries, then make them in to nectar to sell or keep. You can also buy baking supplies and bake bread in your new oven.You can churn butter, you can make gargoyles, get honey from your beehive, skeleton maid to clean your house.. the list goes on and on.
*Magic Town HOMES*
Ok, these homes are neat - but my beef is that they are so small!For one Sim it might work, but I moved in a huge magic family and had to tear down the house and build a new one.The houses on the lots are neat - I just wish they were bigger!
*Pet Dragons*
These are a lot of fun!The only thing is I think they might be a little buggy still.My nice dragon got to the point where it would bite my Sims if they tried to give it any attention, then it got mad it wasn't getting attention and packed its bags and left. :(
Overall - I give this pack 5 stars.I would give it more if I could!It's one of the best packs yet, and probably one with the least bugs!Its a lot of fun for all Sims fans.HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

There's also a clothing rack just for kids so now your Sim kids can buy bathing suits, pajamas, etc. like the adults do in downtown. Also, kids and adults can purchase Winterwear so they won't be cold in the mountains.
The Vacation Director also tells you that if you go to the pool, for example, in your winterwear or if you go to the colder climates in your swimsuit that you will be "VERY uncomfortable."
If you want to be completely surprised by Vacation, you probably don't want to read the rest of this review. Spoiler Alert!
When your Sims are ready to redeem their tokens for prizes, they can choose from a wooden squirrel, lava idol, stuffed penguin, coconut monkey, quartz skull, stuffed guinea pig, chicken cookie jar or a baby doll. Each one requires a certain amount of tokens that you have to win by playing the various games on Vacation Island.
When you go to lots that have ducks on the water, the ducks actually move and quack.
Depending on what lot you're on (such as snow or beach), the rental shack has different functions. For instance, you can't rent a sandcastle kit when you're staying on a lot that has snow. Here are the various things you can rent: picnic basket, metal detector, bow and arrow, fishing pole, tent (for the night), igloo (for the night), snowman kit, sandcastle kit and a bow and arrow for archery.
The Sims love to fish. So far, I've seen them catch some sort of pond grass goo, fish (they throw them back) and a boot.
One of my Sims used a metal detector. He found money, an arrowhead and also a boot. He even brought the boot home and put it right on the kitchen table!
Your Sims can "play" in both the tents and igloos.
There are also new kid interactions. What I've discovered so far is rough house (the two Sims look like they're throwing play punches), kids can do a handstand, crazy dance and play, rock, paper, scissors. These are just the ones I've seen so far but Maxis said there are tons of new kid interactions.
The manual also states to look out for the "flying hug." My Sims haven't done that yet but it's worth mentioning.
Also, and this is so cute, when my Sim adult and her son were making a snowman, they got all three pieces of the snowman put together (his body). Then the boy jumped into his mother's arms and she held him close to the snowman's face so he could put on the snowman's eyes, mouth, nose, scarf and hat.

Another thing I've noticed is that when your Sims build a snowman, they have different hats. Some Sims will put a baseball cap on the snowman, others might put a straw hat. I've seen three different hats so far.
I haven't had any bugs or other problems. It takes a bit longer to load with all of the previous expansion packs installed. I have 128 megs of RAM and don't have any issues with the game running slowly. I have heard of others who have a lot more memory who also say it takes a while for the game to load.
But it's nothing serious and it definitely isn't worth passing up this expansion pack for if you really want it.

The Sims Deluxe Edition Review

(More customer reviews)I put the Sims Deluxe Edition on my Christmas wish list because I wanted to see, once and for all, what was so great about what I guess is the best-selling computer game of all time. Well, I got it for Christmas and have played it a lot since, and I now understand the appeal of it. It is a very open-ended game where you choose the sex of your sim (or sims), what they wear, what sign they are, you choose their name, you choose their job, you choose their house - you give your sim the life you would like to have, pretty much. Once you've made enough money from your job, you can buy cooler and better stuff that will make your sim happier. You can choose the wallpaper, the carpet, the paintings you hang on your walls, and you can even build an expansion on to your existing house, or just build a new one altogether. This part of the game is so entertaining for me, that it has almost inspired me to become an interior decorator.
My one complaint about the Sims is this: I decided to create two characters based on me and my boyfriend, and had them living in the same house together. Things were fine at first, but then after they both got jobs, they never saw each other any more, and neither one had time to do anything other than work - socializing became a chore I had to squeeze in after their long day at work, and just having fun (like playing on the computer, or watching TV) was hard to do. Since the game's clock runs so that every one second equals one minute in the Sim world, it takes 15 seconds for me to watch the character to walk out to get the mail, but it takes the sim 15 MINUTES to get the mail, which is a bit unrealistic - and it makes the game annoying because it takes so long to do little chores, all you have time for is sleep and work. (Actually, maybe it IS realistic.) Once my two sims were really in love and kissed many times, a little bubble popped up and asked if we should have a baby. I said yes, and boy was that a mistake! It is virtually impossible for sims to have babies. The baby has to be constantly taken care of for a total of three days before it becomes a child. If you so much as take a break to get something to eat, the social worker comes and takes the baby away. This is, of course, after one of your sims already lost their job to take care of the thing. So, while it may be cool for your sims to have a kid, I recommend waiting until you are filthy rich, so that one sim can stay home and care for it around the clock. (You can hire a maid, you can hire a gardener, but you can't get a babysitter?!)
However, even with the tiny little annoyances this game may have, it's still a great game. Who knew that watching a computer character read a book could be so entertaining? I would recommend the Deluxe Edition to first-time sim-ers (like me) because it also contains the expansion pack Livin' Large, which provides more houses, more items, more enjoyment. Enjoy!
