(More customer reviews)Wow! If you've played the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, no doubt you were amazed. Well this one improves on the original ten-fold.
First of all, there are three new characters, including two of the godfathers of skate; Rodney Mullen and Steve Caballero (who's base stats are amazing to start with!). Also present is Eric Koston, who was recently voted best all-around skater. If you saw him in this year's X-Games, you'll know why.
Secondly, you now have the ability to create your own skateparks! There are a good number of pieces to choose from and the way things can be linked together is very nice. There are also a ton of pre-made parks in the editor that will give you ideas. Many of these are excellent in their own right and they can also be manipulated.
Thirdly, there are a TON of new tricks. All of the ones from the previous game are here, but each player can have two sets of tricks, which can be accessed by double-tapping the grab and flip buttons. This adds an incredible amount of versatility to runs and can help you to have more original lines, which is really important in contest events. Also, the inclusion of manuals is very cool. This means that instead of just normally approaching an object to trick off of, you can manual to it and this gives you constant points. Imagine some of the combos that could be achieved! It takes some getting used to, especially since it means you move more slowly and you have to manually keep your boarder's balance (no pun intended).
Fourthly, the new parks are very cool. Marseilles is the one that was included in the demo for the game, so many of you know how cool that park is already. Venice beach is nice, too. It has a lot of vert areas and even some vagrants to ollie over, I kid you not! People might miss some of the original parks, but with the park editor, you might be able to make a reasonable facsimile.
Fifthly, there is a create-a-skater mode. While it doesn't add too much to the game, it is still nice to see a skater with your name.
On top of all these factors, they've changed the level objectives quite a bit. Now instead of collecting tapes to progress, you must complete certain objectives for money. The money you earn can be used towards buying new boards, buying new tricks (including grabs, flips and specials) and boosting your created-player's stats. Also, as usual, the music in the game is fresh and should appeal to fans of several different styles. The multiplayer modes are standard, but just as awesome as before.
Well, I could say more, but what is there to say that hasn't already been said? Activision and Neversoft have really outdone themselves and continue to show a great deal of respect for the consumers. This is an incredible game in every aspect and should be in the home of every video game fan on the planet! HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION POSSIBLE!

Syphon Filter 3 Review

(More customer reviews)Syphon Filter 3...Great game, awesome graphics, it just comes up a bit short. Not nearly as good as the first 2 installments, Syphon Filter 3 agents like Gabe Logan, Lian Xing, Teresa Lipan and Lawrence Mujari take you through 19 different levels from Costa Rica to Australia and even to Afghanistan. With 26 different weapons to choose from (although you'll need the same 2-3 on any one level) it keeps the game interesting for replay value. Included along with the 2 player mode are 5 'mini games' that seem to just take up space on the disc. I would rather have a longer game with harder levels or a few more 'boss' levels instead.
Syphon Filter fans.....BUY THIS GAME! If you are not familiar with this series, start with the first installment. It could quite possibly be your favorite game of all time.

(More customer reviews)Just got this game yesterday...I loved the arcade game Spy Hunter when I was a kid, I spent many quarters playing it...
When I heard that they were gonna give it the PS2 treatment, I was thrilled...Altho a little bit skeptical that they werent going to make true to the original...
I neednt have worried...This game has captured the feel of the original game with the plot and gameplay..AND it has some of the most awesome graphics I have ever seen in a videogame..This game is a cross between Gran Turismo 3 (which I hate, but i think the graphics are awesome) and the original Spy Hunter...
Controls are excellent, movie sequences make sense, and missions are manageable (not too easy, not too difficult (like Twisted Metal for PS2 - Sheesh!))
Awesome remake of an awesome game!

(More customer reviews)I am 47 years old. This is only the second review I've writen to Amazon. ... I bought 8 games the first day, including Ridge Racer 5, DOA2, Madden 2001, SSX, Kessen, and Unreal Tournament. They are all awsome games in their own right, and so is the PS2 system in most ways. I like many genre of intertainment. But I love this game. So does a 31 year old friend who played it alone for 5 hours at my house. I played it for over twice that time (making myself late for work one day).There are, as the gamers review points out, many variables and choices to the 4 game modesavailable, from going head-to-head, to a free roaming mode where you are free to just go off-roading in a 5 mile square of either forest, desert, or mountain snow (it's the same territory as the forest with entirely new techniques). I had fun knocking cars, trucks and RVs into the forest river while in the free roaming mode, while a friend of mine found out that he could go into an eternal free-fall by scaling up the snow-frozen waterfall and driving off the mountain edge of the map.All the vehicles (10 or so) have different handling algorithms and it's fun to watch your car's body parts fly off as you rip through border patrol cars or hit a deep gulley. Driving skills are a must to advance to the highest levels, as well as familiarity with the areas, and some expiriance with gravity effects in the game. The Border Patrol officials get tougher as you progess, attempting to bulldoze you over and trap you for an arrest ('Crazy Taxi' goals, only with cops to stop you!). The mode where you are a member of a team and competing with another team to steal the most contraband from a crashed plane, ect. is fun in a second way, because you're stealing stuff from the other guys as a team (kinda like soccer, only you really SOCK 'em). I also have a Dreamcast (another fun machine), but I've not found anywhere, a better game. Even the kids (7 to 12, boys AND GIRLS) found this game both fun and addictive. This game is truly a good buy, and for a first generation game, hits the limits of displaying the known processing power of the system. But again, the bottom line is it's fun.
