(More customer reviews)This is a killer car-combat game, and by killer, I mean a really cool game. It's a car-combat game with a story, and one well above those of "Twisted Metal". You star as jive turkey, Groove Champion, that is on a vigiliante mission to find out who killed his sister with the help of his friends, Skeeter and Taurus. This is also during a huge oil crisis in the south-west during 1976.
The game is based on the MechWarrior 2 engine. In other words, it's graphics that were really good back in that day, but wouldn't be able to shake even the lowest costing graphic cards out today. Do they hold up? Somewhat. They're playable but suffer from some things, other than obvious texture uglies. Mainly, the draw distance. The in-car view is still cool, but the 2D drive-by hand really stands out today as some true ugly. This, however, shouldn't cast judgement in a negative light of this game. What was fine for back then was truly fine. I played this when I was a teenager and I will always remember it as one of the best experiences I've ever had with car combat, even over that of "Twisted Metal 2", my second favorite car-combat game. Plus, this music just makes you want to groove.
The one thing that really stands out is this game's story. It's actually interesting. There's cutscenes, voice acting throughout, and there's not an arena you fight in. You travel to places and shoot up fools. And these places are for miles. Sometimes you want to pull over and take a break just from driving. But the driving is at least fun. Completely off-road, and completely fun.
There's multiplayer, and it's great too. There's basic deathmatch and such, with AI bots, but some of my favorite things to do is download maps, such as the stunt maps, and just have fun with a friend. How's this hold up today? Same as it always has been: fun! And this game still works online , thank to it's many options for play.
Let's all make love to the sweet sounds of horns honking after doing a drive by on a sucka!

Product Description:
It's 1976 - a different '76. Stretched out before you are thousands of miles of desert - the American Southwest. The massive engine roars as you slam down the accelerator. It's time to get funked up. You are Groove Champion, auto-vigilante. Your agenda: Payback for your dead sister. Your weapon: A 425-horsepower '72 Picard Piranha with two 50-caliber M60 machine guns on top and a flame-thrower on the side. You're one mean dude in an even meaner ride. They've messed with the wrong Champion.
