Every year fans eagerly await the newest edition in the Smackdown vs Raw series. Each year, the game features an updated roster and graphics, as well as new arenas, moves and storylines. There are several new features in this game:The Hell in a Cell has been remade to look more like its real life counterpart, matches can be further tweaked to make any match first blood, finisher only, two out of three falls, etc...
So how does this installment stack up to the others?Read on.

Graphics:Since the Wii is known for its cartoony graphics, I won't spend a lot of time complaining that some of the wrestlers don't look realistic.Personally, I'm reminded of the PS2 games with the wrestlers' looks. The arenas look awesome as well: since I haven't seen a PPV in a long time, it's kind of cool unlocking the next arena to see what's waiting for me.

Sound:To be honest, I usually mute the game during matches and listen to my own CDs.That isn't a dig at the music, I like the wrestler's entrance music and I love that they keep playing it during the menus.
The commentary is pretty much badthis time around. For example, I was playing a triple threat match between Natalya, Beth Phoenix and Melina and the King kept saying that if Natalya won, she could challenge for the United States Title.

Road to Wrestlemania:This year, we get five new Road to Wrestlemania storylines to wrestle through. The storylines include taking a character to end the Undertaker's undefeated streak at Wrestlemania and following Y2J's quest for the championship belt. These are the two stories I've played through already.Other stories include one for Rey Mysterio, One involving Christian as the ECW champion, and (of course) a storyline for John Cena.It seems to me that the Road to Wrestlemania matches have been toned down a bit in difficulty. The stories are nowhere near as frustrating to complete as last year's.

WWE Universe:This is undoubtedly the best new feature in Smackdown vs Raw 2011.Career and Exhibition modes are combined in this one to really give the player a chance to feel like they're booking the shows.Players can use the pre-set matches for each show, or go ahead and customize their own. What's really nice is the fact that Universe can be used to unlock certain wrestlers/arenas (so people aren't just doing unlocking via Road to Wrestlemania).

CAW:Create a wrestler is pretty much the same as last year. There are a number of articles that can be used to make your character stand out amongst the WWE Rankings.Though I have to admit, I only made two wrestlers so far, they both look really good.(For those interested, I made Sgt. Slaughter and John the Baptist CAWS).There is still no ability to input your own music, so you are limited to the music ingame.

Unlockables:Every game in the Smackdown (vs Raw) series has boasted its share of unlockables, and this edition is no exception.Though a lot of the legends have been repeated in the past, we do have a couple new ones:notably Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Jake the Snake (who hasn't been in a Smackdown game since 2006).The returning legends include:THe Rock, Stone Cold, Terry Funk and Jimmy Snuka (Sorry folks, no Bret Hart for the Wii). There are also a lot of arenas to unlock as well as alternate attires, mostly civilian clothes this time around though.

Final thoughts:Smackdown vs Raw 2011 could have been the next No Mercy. It is a vast improvement over last year's edition, and it really does a good job of sucking gamers into the experience. My personal problems with the game keep me from calling it the No Mercy Killer though. Here is a quick list to review.

Pros:
Makes you feel like you're booking the matches.
Large roster so you can mix and match your dream matches.
Hell in a Cell is a lot more fun.
Difficulty decreased for Road to Wrestlemania.

Cons:
Voice acting is very off.Announcing is even worse.
Wrestlemania Matches in Road to Wrestlemania are hard (not really much of a gripe...but it seems that breezing through RTW and getting to these next to impossible matches is a bit of a let-down).
I kind of miss the Divas storyline from last year's edition.

All in all, I'd say if you haven't played SDvsRaw2010, then go ahead and get this game. However, if you've already played and beaten last year's edition, you might wanna wait until this game drops a bit in price.
