Backyard Sports: Sandlot Sluggers Review

The Good:

*Great cast of charters with different abilities
*Great-looking ballparks
*Wacky Power-ups give the game the arcade feelThe Bad:

*Minor gameplay annoyancesThe Bottom Line:

If you have played this game last decade on your PC, you probably remember the characters Pablo Sanchez, Dimitri Petrovich and Vicki Kawaguchi and others. They are all back.It seems like they have grown up, too.In the PC version they seem to be somewhere in middle school and now they look a bit older, about early High School age. This is also supported by Pablo's ability to speak English(in the last decade's version he couldn't as was clearly stated in his bio.)

The Story Mode involves you making a character and going around other ballparks, beating other teams and stealing their captain before your final challenge of taking on the bully team. The game is fairly shallow in terms of replay value, but because it is a budget value game($29.99 opening day price,) the short burst of fun fits the price tag.

Minor annoyances are sometimes being out on a shallow hit to the outfield and all the fielders seem to have rocket arms.Mini games are also very shallow and quick.

At the end, this is still a good family game, especially if you like baseball.

Attention achievement hunters:Achievements are fairly easy and you should get all 1,000 in about 5 hours or so.

The roar of the crowd fills your ears as you step up to the plate. The pitcher winds up and lets go as you smoothly swing and connect with a satisfying thunk. You fly around the bases as the ball arcs through the air heading toward the edge, hinting at a home run. You slow as it soars over the outfielder's head and disappears onto the street below. Nothing is quite the same as an untouchable homerun, the ball disappearing into the bright blue sky as your team runs up to congratulate you. Your opponents will be embarrassed to show their faces around the neighborhood after a game like this.

Toy Story 3 The Video Game Review

Toy Story 2 for the Nintendo 64 was one of my favorite games when I was younger, and I was looking forward to this game with the hope that it would be anywhere near as fun as that great platformer was.Thankfully, this game far surpassed my expectations.

From the moment I started playing it was obvious that much more care had been put into the development of this game than most games based on movies get.

The graphics for this game are great, despite obviously not being the main focus of the creators. Each level is very detailed and colorful, with a unique, interesting appearance. The gameplay is similarly unique and varied, with tons of platforming, riding, and flying. The sandbox mode even includes a couple of cars and a stunt track, and it's very fun to drive around and pull off tricks.

Sandbox mode is the mode I've spent the most time with so far in the game.It involves exploring the fairly large area of 'Woody's Roundup' which is mainly Western themed. There are sub-levels within Woody's Roundup that have Sci-Fi (Zurg's base), Fantasy, and Spooky themes. There are many things to do in this mode, including the hundreds of collectibles to find, missions to do, and customization of your town. You can make the town look any way you want, by altering the costumes of the townspeople and changing the location, decoration and paint jobs of the buildings. There are even costumes that are based on characters from other Pixar movies, which I found interesting. The goals in sandbox mode are based on the 103 'Gold Stars' available, which are awarded for completing various tasks, which range from landing a paratrooper in a well to finding all of the collectibles in an area.

Story mode is divided into eight sections. Each section has a distinct, unique style of graphics and gameplay. They are all very detailed and fun, with many collectibles to find and achievements to get that increase the replay value of each level.

Overall, this game is highly recommended for everyone. It's simple and accessible enough for children to play, but has enough depth to give adults enjoyment as well.If you're not going to buy it, you should at least give it a rental.

Toy Story 3 The Video Game Review

I have been playing video games since I first obtained the original NES (which I still have and play) back in the early 90's, and never have I had such a wonderful time playing a video game! There were many times I literally squealed out loud in delight at elements taking place within the game. I will not rehash the details of the game (which you can find above in the item description), but I will tell you on my first foray in Toy Box mode I played for four hours straight and would have played even longer had it not been for the late hour and work in the early morning.

The options and elements to customize are vast...you can alter the appearance of buildings (and townspeople by giving them the heave-ho into any building you have customized), as well as purchase and place new buildings (some allow for placement options and others do not) so you are altering the landscape of the entire town. Customizations are easy and hilarious (giant Nemo fins are on the sides of my jail right now).

Everything is an event, from completing a mission (it's a party!) to the arrival of new toys (it's actually really excitement-inducing to see the stagecoach coming with your huge "present" even though you know what it is), to mining for gold, to riding Bullseye around and hearing the wonderful sound effects. As expected, the graphics are amazing with only a hint of jerkiness here and there. Sound effects are spot on and the game features most of the original voice cast from the films (another major bonus).

The reward system seems very balanced; they make it easy enough to earn gold coins to purchase new items (buildings, toys, etc.), but you are never sitting on all that many coins because so many new items are being unlocked for purchase all the time. Each new toy you purchase comes with new missions you can complete and the open world format is just a joy to tromp around in to complete them. The mission log is also very helpful, as is the compass feature which can be a real boon if you are stuck trying to complete any one task.

I can honestly say I can not wait to play this game again. Some games when purchased have a shelf life, but Toy Story 3 will live on my shelf forever. I can not recommend this game highly enough...and I haven't even touched Story Mode yet!

Viva Toy Story 3!

*** In addendum ***

A few things I have noticed after several days of gameplay that I felt were worth noting are the time consuming loading screens and the difficulty maneuvering motorized vehicles (although this could just be a lack of coordination on my part). For a game such as this, it seems the loads are far too frequent and of too long a duration. I'm not sure if this is only on the PS3 version, but it is a bit of a frustration at times.

As for the vehicles...like I said, I don't know if it is just my lack of coordination, but I seem to have a real issue getting the cars to go in the direction I am trying to go. Any of the creatures I am just fine with (Bullseye, the Dragon, etc.) but those dang cars...

Also, the robbers at the bank and the attacks on the town can be a little random. Even if you are standing right next to the bank you can miss some of the bandits and lose some of your gold coins which is nonsensical to me. Fortunately my bank is right across from my jail so I just turn around and toss them in. :)

Despite these additional issues, I am still loving the heck out of this game. Truly a grand time!

First of all I'm a Toy Story junkie. I was kinda worried about a game this big in the palm of my hand. In a nutshell, while Toy Story 3 has it's problems, I still think it's worth a buy especially if you have 6-12yo in the house. I personally was bored with many of the mini games. Some are just annoying and I Just wanted to move on. On the other hand, many were a blast. But most of the little ones in your world won't mind.

The game is a mix of a ton of mini games, a big story mode and some platforming elements. I had soem problems with the moments where jumping and lining up jumps is important in the adventure levels and having to use the stick, but most will catch on pretty fast. The graphics are well done, albeit a little grainy in parts and I thought the audio was a little tinny. But considering the amount of things to do and play in Toy Story 3, most won't mind. One major issue with families with multiple kids. The game only allows you to save one game on the cartridge which is a big no no for DS games. So if a child wants to start over, it will erase the current file. So keep that in mind. But overall, if you just want a lot of things to do and you like Toy Story, it's worth a serious look.
