Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer Review

Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer

First off, I was impressed that there are four separate save slots, so multiple family members can have their own file. Not that anyone is likely to fight over this game, however. It's almost as tedious as training a real dog, and not quite as gratifying. The graphics and animations are great, however, and the music is pleasant, and the gameplay is solid. You'll not only get to hear/read Cesar's principles (again and again, if my first hour of play is any indicator), but the tasks are engineered quite well.I was a little disoriented at first by the bottom screens where the game illustrates what you should do (I kept thinking I should tap where indicated, but not until it does nothing until I'm working with the actual dog) while the top screen explains in words, but that became clear quickly. The breaking-obsession task can be tricky because you need to find the spot to scratch on each obsessed dog, and crazily rubbing all over with your stylus won't cut it.If you don't soothe the dog with sound AND scratching, they won't budge, and if you overdo the soothe sound, the dog will actually lose progress. For other tasks, I learned to use the verbal correction each time the dog gets out of a sitting position, and hit the arrow keys whenever they flash, and now I don't have any problems getting a passing score.I wonder, though, whether more complex cases will still have all the highlighting and stuff that basically walks me through the tasks even AFTER completing the 6-ish tutorials.

I was impressed by the buttons for the save slots: instead of typing in letters, you can write (or draw) anything you want in the space provided, so you basically create your own icon. There are a number of arrow buttons to allow you to read and re-read any information. There are simple option controls to change the volume of different game elements. There's a Cesarpedia with lots of information to help you understand gameplay as well as Cesar's principles. You save your game by pressing the bottom-left arrow key until you get back to the starting screen, at which point it will ask whether you want to save.Besides the tutorials, which are fairly brief, I see only 20 cases.Perhaps more will be unlocked as I progress? Each case can take a while (I'm guessing 20 mins), so there's a good amount of gameplay here. But so far it's quite repetitive.

A case proceeds as follows:
Prove your knowledge to Cesar.Diagnose the dog.Exercise the dog.Retrain the dog (choosing from about 5 methods).Play with and/or feed the dog (probably don't need to do both).Prove your knowledge to Cesar.

There are (so far, at least) about 5 kinds of case, so those 20 cases mentioned above will likely be repeats of the 5 methods mentioned above.Perhaps some dogs will have more than one issue, so the case will take longer. So far, the dog breeds, names, and stories change, but not much else.Even the knowledge questions Cesar poses are frequently recycled.I don't mind, however, because I truly do want to memorize the principles.

My biggest complaint is probably the speed at which the dogs walk.No bounding puppies like Nintendogs. These dogs practically crawl, unless they're the type you can take roller-blading, and even those merely trot.Mercifully, each walk gets interrupted twice by a black screen stating "ten minutes later" so you don't actually have to walk the dog at a snails pace for more than a few minutes, total.I also wish I could see a hand (as in Nintendogs) where I touch my stylus on the screen, so I have a better idea of whether my patts on the dogs head will register or not until the frisbee/ball is completely dropped.

I could see a child being frustrated trying to figure this out, and getting bored with the patience required of this game, but teens and up should be able to appreciate this, if they actually have any interest in training dogs.If they merely want teach a dog tricks or dress it up, definitely look for a different game.

The only way you can unlock the Dalmation is to find the Fireman's hat during a walk.If you have been unlucky and want a dalmation, you can buy the Dalmation edition.

Basically there are 20 dogs in all... 18 of which are featured in the first 3 editions (see below).Dalmations and Jack Russel Terriers are the only dogs that are not featured in any of the first 3 games. This newest edition includes Dalmations and 5 other popular dogs from the other 3 games.I assume they will release Jack Russel edition next. lol

Games and dogs included:

Dachund & Friends:1) Dachshund2) Beagle3) Shih Tzu4) Pug5) Golden Retriever6) Siberian Husky

Chihuahua & Friends:1) Chihuahua2) Boxer3) Spaniel4) Yorkshire Terrier5) Shetland Sheepdog6) German Shepherd

Labrador Retriever & Friends:1) Lab2) Corgi3) Min Pin4) Poodle5) Shiba Inu6) Miniature Schnauzer

Dalmation & Friends:1) Dalmation2) Boxer3) German Shepherd4) Golden Retriever 5) Yorkshire Terrier6)Beagle

NOTE!!!!! EVERY EDITION HAS THE POTENTIAL TO UNLOCK ALL 20 DOGS.So if you want to do it on your own you can!!That's what I hope to do.

REGARDING THE JACK RUSSEL:you can unlock it by finding a book on Jack Russel Terriers during a walk.

Nintendogs Labrador Retriever & Friends Review

Nintendogs Labrador Retriever & Friends
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first got Nintendogs last Christmas, I expected myself to do as normal; love it for the first month or two, and then set it down. However, this game was not the case.

Adopting Your New Pet
I was.. extatic for my first pet. I believe you start out with $1,000 dollars, enough to buy a $600 pet and starter supplies. For me, I adopted a Shiba, gave it a red collar, and wah la! My real life puppy in my hands. Of course you start out with the dogs on the cover, Lab, Mini Schnauser, Toy poodle, corgi, mini pinscher, and shiba inu, and one of those will be your first pet. As you work with your dogs, petting and gaining their love, you will earn trainer points, which will later enable you to the rest of the dogs from all versions. Yes, you can get all dogs.

Trainer Points
You can earn training points from petting your dog (look for the "sparks" to fly), playing in competitions, and a lot more. The more you earn the more dogs and items you can have. For the pets:
Pug- 2,000 points
German Shepherd- 4,000 points
Shih Tzu- 8,000 points
Boxer- 10,000 points
Beagle- 14,000 points
Golden Retriever- 20,000 points
Cavalier Spaniel- 22,000 points
Siberian Husky- 30,000 points
Yorkshire Terrier(Yorkie)- 35,000 points
Dachshund- 45,000 points
Chihuahua- 50,000 points
Dalmation- You must take your dog on a walk and find the firemans hat
Jack Russell Terrier- Take your pup on a walk and find the Jack Russell Terriers book.
Of course you can also unlock items such as a jump rope, but you can look that up via internet. Sorry!

Walks
You can take your pup on a walk all over "town". Basically, you can see a map of the "town" and you can drag your stylus around the streets to get to where you desire. Aim to hit the little blue boxes that have a question mark on them as those will be your special events.

Special Events and Destinations
Of course on walks you will have areas and events to do. Aim for the blue "?" boxes like I mentioned earlier, and you can either:
1.)Have your dog stop and see another dog
2.)Have your dog get a present for you
However, it is random.
As for destinations, you can go to one of two discount shops where you can buy food, supplies and toys at a discounted price, go to one of two parks, and go to an Agility Training arena to practice for the competition.

Competitions
There are three competitions, agility (obstacle course), frisbee and Training (have dog perform tricks). Beat the current first place person's score to win first! You can either get first (most prize cash), second (middle prize cash), or third (not too much cash) or not a place (no cash). Win first to move up to the next level of the competition. Note: three plays per day.

Bathing and Feeding
You will bathe and feed your dogs. Make sure to stock up on that kind of supplies, cleaning supplies every other day, and food and water everyday.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, its your GAME.
Your dogs will know it's you! The built in microphone will pick up your voice as you name your dog with your voice, and train it with your voice. No more siblings stealing your game! The dogs won't recognize them!

Well, I hoped this helped! I put in about as much as I could think of, sorry if I missed a couple things. Good luck with your game!

Nintendo DS Nintendogs Dachshund & Friends Review

Nintendo DS Nintendogs Dachshund & Friends
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My son actually had a "Dogz" and "Catz" game similar to this for our computer some years ago. Very fun...very cute but wow, how far the technology has come in a few short years! First of all, the images are amazing and very crisp and clear. Secondly, he'll play it for hours on end (if I let him) and really seems to be doing something constructive rather than just shooting things and running in circles finding coins. The voice recognition is really genius, he's the only one that can train the dog he's chosen, even if his friends decide they'd like to try the game. It also teachesresponsibility before the fact if you are thinking of getting a pet. No...it's not "real life" but it's the coolest virtual thing I've seen in a long time! It's not a bad price as games go, and it really will keep the kids occupied for a long time. I just think it's really neat and hey, it's not annoying like a Furby.

Kinectimals Review

Kinectimals
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Kinectimals is structured and directed more to a younger audience. My 5 year old daughter is addicted! The game is however quite inviting to the older generation, especially when I see how much my kid was enjoying her new pet!

Kinectimals isn't too advance in the form of a Sims game, but you do get to teach your pet several tricks (i believe there is like 10).You teach your pet to do tricks by performing them yourself, and after he/she has learned the trick you can either perform the trick so your kinectimals will mimic you or you can just give voice commands. Also, you have to show your pet love--to do this you will take care of it by petting it, congratulating it, brushing it, playing fetch or with other toys, buying accessories for it, and more! All these actions help build up a type of discovery meter, the more you do with your pet the more the discovery meter builds up and in turn the more of the map/island you discover. The more you discover, the more you unlock!

There isn't much of an actual storyline, except for the introduction you get on how everything came about and how the previous pet owner (some pirate/captain) left many years ago.Overall, your main objective is to eventually discover the whole island and defeat mini games on the way.You can also, use a magnifying glass to scope out your surroundings in the meantime to look for buried hidden treasures.

The mini games are creative and fun but a little bit repetitive. They utilize the same games but dress them up differently so they appear different."Bumble" the guide of the game, a half bee/half mouse looking animal, flies around talking and sometimes I found to be quite annoying. There is a marketplace within furr town which you can purchase items from all the discovery points you receive. The items sold there can be used to decorate the interior of your home, accessorize your pet, etc etc etc.

My daughter and I are still discovering the island and the game for now, but I will post more as more comes.I believe this is a great game and great buy if you have a child in the age range of 5 - 15.But, if you are just an adult looking for a Kinect game for yourself, you will find yourself bored with the title quicker then a child would be.I only played a few times, and don't care to play to much more except for letting my daughter play.

*For people who are wondering if you can buy the plush animals and use them over multiple gamertags--well you can!The scan card on the plush animal isn't unique in any way and can be scanned multiple times to any gamertag.

**For people who have pre-order bonus codes for exclusive animals (i.e. the gamestop exclusive red-n-black tiger), after redeeming the code and downloading the content, the game will not let you choose the red-n-black tiger from the start. You must pick any animal, and after you leave the bonding circle to head towards your home...a pop up message will show up in the top left corner of your screen alerting you of a new friend in furr town. That will be your red-n-black tiger.

***For achievement hunters, the achievements on this game are extremely easy to get because this game wasn't made very challenging at all.
