Logitech G9 Laser Mouse Review

I've been a Logitech gaming-mouse user/lover for a long time. In fact, the last four mice I've used with my gaming rig have been the MX510 (Blue), MX518, G5 (1st version) and now the G9.

The G9 is the perfect combination of the old G5 (precision, accuracy and on-the-fly resolution adjustments) and the MX revolution (with that killer mouse wheel), stuffed into in a customizable, comfortable and easy to control form factor.

Pros:

-I really like the new weight style much better than the G5. The weight "tray" is hidden under the grip so there is no way it can just pop out like on the previous generation mouse. For me, a properly weighted mouse is key in FPS. Too light and you are all over the screen. Too heavy and you are too late.
-Not only can you change the weights, but you can also change the grips to suit your playing style and the color of the LED indicators. I prefer the Wide Load grip for my big hands and the blue LEDs to match my Microsoft Reclusa Gaming Keyboard (Black).
-As long as you are a "righty", it's very comfortable, even after some marathoning. Like all previous Logitech mice I've owned, ergonomics and comfort are never lost in the design.
-Another great addition is the ability to save up to 5 profiles to the mouse's internal memory. No drivers or software needed to load up your custom mouse settings. There is a switch on the bottom that lets you toggle through your profiles. Perfect for LAN parties when you might not be gaming on your own rig.
-Scrolling with the Micro Gear is a blast when not gaming. There is a switch under the mouse that lets you toggle between what I call the "click" mode (a must for weapon changing in FPS) and the "scroll" mode (a must for scrolling web pages and long documents).
-The gaming-feet surface is much improved. I use this mouse with a SteelSeries SteelPad QcK+ mouse pad and it is smooth as butter. I eventually plan on moving to a solid surface pad as I've heard they can improve accuracy with less friction.
-There are two thumb buttons on the left side. I know this was added to newer model G5 (my older version didn't have this) and it's a warm welcome. These are a must for forward/back functionality when you browse the web.

Cons:

-The Setpoint software is a little flaky. I chalk this up to being an early release. It took a couple reinstalls to finally get it to work correctly. Its possible previous software versions on my PC caused this issue. Everything works now.
-I can't use my wrist pad with this mouse. I know it sounds weird, but the back of the mouse isn't as long as the G5 and it slopes downward in a way that forces your wrist to touch your mouse pad. Because of this, it works best without an elevated wrist pad behind it. If you do try to elevate your wrist/forearm, it can be pretty uncomfortable. No biggie, I'll make due.
- $100 price. Ouch, but I've gotta have the latest and greatest.

So there you have it. I'll update this review as I put it through more testing.

Be sure to check out the customer photos section. I took some photos of the G9 side-by-side with my old G5. Enjoy!

Razer Imperator Ergonomic Laser Gaming Mouse Review

I previously had a Deathadder 1800dpi mouse for a few years, and felt it was time for a upgrade. I was so used to the deathadder that I thought about getttng a mamba instead since its the same shell. I looked into the new 3500dpi deathadder as well, but wanted to go for the full 5600dpi...
Let me say that this mouse doesn't dissapoint. The ergonomic feel is more precise than the deathadder, much better than the log*tech line of gamer mice. The on the fly dpi buttons behind the wheel are a nice upgrade from the deathadder. The cable is braided and feels much stronger than that of older razer mice. The main thing that I was worried about was the smaller side buttons and the slider thing... I use the side buttons for a lot of games and these, though smaller, are just as easy to get to as the deathadder's side buttons. The slider is actually very useful for getting a more customized feel to the mouse. The sensor is very accurate, Though going full 5600dpi in windows for internet browsing, ect, is way to fast. I turn mine down to 2000dpi in for normal browsing and in games crank it up to 5600 in game. I play HL2DM and CSS and turned in game sens. down from 4.0 to 0.9 to get the same feel as the 1800dpi deathadder.
Overall this mouse is very good and I would definetly reccomend getting it if ur old deathadder needs to be retired like mine. 5/5 stars! Another great product from Razer!

Logitech G9X Programmable Laser Gaming Mouse with Precision Grips Review

As a matter of review disclosure, I received the G9x as part of Amazon Vine.

I own a G9 and wrote a prior review for it, indicating it was a fine game mouse which includes a corded laser driven sensor system, on board customizable memory, a cool weight addition system which is not a gimmick--I definitely have a preference for a heavy mouse, customizable LED colors, and a nice scroll wheel. The two changeable grips are great -- you will probably have a preference for one or the other depending on how you use your mouse. The G9 is a nicely constructed, accurate, pleasure to use, feature heavy game mouse, and fully capable of use in any application including games. But, this is not a review on the G9, but rather the G9x... or is it?

The G9x is exactly the same mouse, with exactly the same construction and feature set, except for one thing....let me quote the Logitech feature blurbs: First, for the G9x, "the G9x extends the promise of the award-winning Logitech G9 Laser Mouse with its next-generation laser sensor... On-the-fly adjustable dpi to go from pixel-precise targeting (200 dpi) to lightning-fast maneuvers (up to 5000 dpi)."And for the G9, "Get uncompromised speed and accuracy from a high-performance Gaming-Grade Laser Engine (adjustable 200 dpi - 3200 dpi)"This apparently is the only difference. An increase from 3200 dpi max for the G9 up to 5000 dpi for the G9x.

My own max speed for playing games without too much twitching is 2500 dpi, and most often I prefer lower speeds.I would never realize the full speed of the G9x, just as I have not realized the full speed of the G9. I do not notice any functional differences playing Crysis, Call of Duty 4, F.E.A.R. series, Fallout 3, or any other fast paced games.

I love both of these mice, but I have to ask the question, at about $60 for the G9, and $100 for the G9x, is the G9x worth another $40 over the G9?I guess if you do the math, 5000 dpi over 3200 dpi is a 56% increase in speed. The $40 premium for the G9x is 66% over the prior price for the G9.

You can make your own decision, but I think the price point for this new mouse is higher than it should be.The G9 and G9x are great mice.Buy whichever one is cheaper, they are exactly the same, and provide exactly the same general features, except for max dpi.
