I picked up WWE Day of Reckoning yesterday and played 8 hours straight.Well, one thing I know for sure...I'm not going to touch my Wrestlemania XIX anymore. This new game is going to keep me busy for quite a while.I had the chance to go through a couple matches in Story Mode.

The Story Mode is a huge, huge, huge improvement and I believe it gives Day of Reckoning a very good replay value. Of course you have to use a created wrestler to start out. After and hour and a half of creating my wrestler, I started out my quest to become the most electrifying wrestler the WWE will ever see. You start off in the WWE Developmental territory working house shows and building up your attributes. After being coached by Jonathan Coachman, Paul Heyman takes notice of you and gives you an opportunity to wrestle on Sunday Night Heat. When Vince McMahon takes notice of your in ring skills, he offers you a contract to either Raw or Smackdown!!There will be a different story line and different characters depending on which brand you choose to go with.... and you will join a a choice of factions depending on whether you made your created wrestler a face or a heel. I won't go into anymore detail on how the rest of my story mode goes, but I'm in a reunited faction lead by the UNDERTAKER.Let's just say it's just like watching Raw or Smackdown. There are groups being formed, you're asked to make a betrayal or betrayals are being made on you, you're attacked behind the back in the locker room, etc.... it's crazy. The DoR Story Mode is something wrestling gamers will have to experience.

The gameplay is much better and the animation flows much smoother.I read previews of this game that it was going to be NO MERCY (my favorite wrestling game) on steroids. It's pretty much close to that. The button config is still close to that of the Wrestlemania games, but the gameplay works much better. The spear move looks a lot like it should, not like before where the opponent flies 10 feet back.A lot of the moves now look the way they should be executed. The moves look even more impressive and with more additional moves I've never heard of before, or even seen executed.

Designing your entrance is not as detailed as before, but it still looks great.

They made great decisions picking out the music for DoR.The soundtrack is incredible.Seeing the title page with "Bring the Noise" (public enemy/anthrax) in the background really does make it very WWE. There are additional new songs that I'm now planning on purchasing as well.GREAT soundtrack!!!

Overall, I would give this 4 1/2 stars out of 5.I hope Yukes continues to make improvements every year with their wrestling games.I still continue to compare them to AKI (creators of No Mercy), but I think Yukes will eventually become the leader of wrestling games if they continue pleasing wrestling gamers with products like WWE DAY OF RECKONING.
