JSRF- Jet Set Radio Future Review

JSRF- Jet Set Radio Future
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Jet Set Radio Future is the sequel to Jet Grind Radio on the Dreamcast and it is the epitome of a great game.
JSRF is set in 2024.A huge corporation has taken over Tokyo and bought the police. You play the skaters who are taking back the city . . . by tagging just about everything in sight.Okay, so it's not the most sophisticated plot in the world, but this is an amazingly fun game.
The gameplay is pure enjoyment. You pick a skater, then take on various sections of Tokyo, all of which are huge in scope, packed with human and vehicle traffic, and intricately designed. You'll find yourself grinding rails, staircases, power lines, and more. While grinding and skating, you pick up cans of spray paint, then use those cans to tag various buildings, vehicles, etc.Sometimes you are starting from scratch with the graffiti, and other times you are covering the tags of rival gangs.
In addition to tagging and grinding, you will find yourself fighting the corrupt police. You generally will come across the police in specific sections of the level or at the end, once you have completed all your tagging. To defeat the police you have to knock them over then spray paint their white uniforms, leaving them a huffing, puffing, multi-colored mess as they turn tail and run.Trust me--this is great fun.But don't slow down, or else the police will pile on you and drag you down and the chief, Hayashi, will take aim and shoot.(He's a bit crazy, and doesn't like you one bit.)Once your stamina is up, it's game over, so don't let the police drag you down.
In addition to the cops, you'll find yourself racing with fellow skaters to turn them into playable characters and battling with members of rival gangs, which often entails emulating a series of grinds. This is a nice addition to the gameplay and it helps increase the amount of playable characters.
There's so much more to the gameplay.Let me just say this: tanks.Oh yeah, the police want to take you down. And the grinding is not limited to flat surfaces. You can grind UP objects, which adds a nice dimension to gameplay. And believe me, you'll be needing to move up high to find all the tag spots.
The graphics are beautiful. The game sports a graphical technique called cell-shading, and the original Jet Grind Radio is the game that started this much-copied trend. This is also the game that does the technique the best.Cell-shading allows for 3D graphics that have a 2D look, creating something of a cartoon.Except this isn't kiddie stuff--we're talking a much more sophisticated, anime-type design in this game. The graphics scream cool, and you'll never get tired of staring at this game.
The music plays a huge role in the game, and there are about thirty tracks to listen to.The music is top notch, with beats that will stay in your head long after you've turned off your Xbox. The music, like the graphics and game play, is just plain cool.
Jet Set Radio Future is cutting edge, it's furious fun, it's hip and sleek and just flat out cool.Trust me, you will love this game.Buy it.Play it.Learn to love Sega, because they're the company that brought you this blessed work of art.

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Review

Tony Hawk's Underground 2
Average Reviews:

This game is absolutely awful, I would actually rather study than play it.It's one of the worst pieces of trash I've played in a long time & I'm an AVID Tony Hawk supporter (until now that is).

First of all, 2/3 of the skaters that have been with the game from the beginning are gone, only the most mainstream skaters made the cut.OG skaters like Rowley, Reynolds, and JT have been replaced by the likes of Steve-O, Jesse James, & even Bigfoot.

Second, the storyline has essentially turned the game into an episode of "Viva La Bam".Half of the goals don't involve skating of any type and simply play on the "skateboarding-is-punk-so-we-destroy-things-'cuz-that's-the-cool-skater-thing-to-do" mantra that seems to be pervading the youth skate culture. If you've skated for any length of time this comes off as a desperate & pathetic attempt to make some money off a crappy game that caters to all the 13 year olds who think Bam Margera is the greatest.

Lastly, as if the pop culture influence that permeates the gameplay isn't insulting enough, there is A video at the end.No, not 1 video per pro, A video featuring all of them. They each throw 3 moves & it's over.

When the Tony Hawk series began the games actually influenced pop culture; now they're doing just the opposite & letting what's trendy dictate the direction of the games.I used to buy all the sequels without question, but after seeing the previews for this game I decided to rent it first (thank goodness I did). You could do a lot better with $50 than buy this game; like buy some real skateboard gear.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Review

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been a Tony Hawk Pro Skater fan for years, every game seems to get better than the last and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 is no exception, the addition of the spine transfer is genious, it allows for much more interesting lines and combo's than ever before. I find myself playing this game almost every day, the goals are much harder than Tony Hawk 3 and also alot more fun. unfortunately the PC version has many flaws that make me almost wish i haden't purchased it. in the bigger levels like san fransisco and kona i get alot of lag (im running a 2.5 ghz system w/128mb geforce T1-4200 w/8x agp and 1gb of ddr ram) even on the lowest setting 640 x 480 i experience it. the only way to get rid of it is to use distance fog which makes finding the skate and combo letters nearly impossible, not to mention distance fog is just plain sucky. setting the spin and switch buttons can't be done because you are forced to have them be shared as 1 button and this can't be changed.
Online play is the worst, you have to download and login to use gamespy arcade instead of how thps3 was where you had a lobby built into the game. so your constantly starting and shutting down your game just so you can find a decent room with people to skate with... not cool at all. the least they could have done was have a "skip intro" option like 3 did. oh and did i mention you can't kick people from your game if your the host? so if you find you have a cheater in your game (which will happen in the future) your forced to play with them.
To sum it all up the game itself is fun but has very little replay value once you finish all the goals due to the ... online play. ...

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland Review

Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Seven years ago, skateboarding became a game genre with Pro Skater. Every year after that, new additions and refined gameplay kept me playing all four Pro Skaters and both Undergrounds. In all of those years, nothing has impressed me more than Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. Somehow Neversoft has done it; they've made the perfect skating game.

I'll skip telling the story, since it's basically the same "get respect" crap that was in the Underground games, and also because the gameplay has been refined to the point of perfection. Neversoft saw it coming--they've outdone themselves and done everything to skateboarding that they could. So other than a few interesting additions to the skateboarding formula (like board stalls, bert slides, and parkour), and the ability to ride and trick on BMX bikes, the coolest addition is the free-sprawling recreation of Los Angeles that serves as the world of THAW. The city is divided into sections, which takes away from some of the huge feel, but I still felt overwhelmed at first by the size of the world. This world is so much fun to skate in that I basically neglected the fact that the story mode goals are terribly easy and repetitive, but serve their purpose in unlocking huge portions of an even larger world.

The controls are spot-on, the combos are still fun, and that's what keeps me coming back to this series. As a note to Neversoft, I don't care about epic storylines and I'm happy with the removal of Bam Margera from the story in general. I'm pleased, as a fan of this series, that I finally have a Hawk game that has the moves, the good controls, and the levels (well, the level) that can keep me playing for another year or two until another boarding game rolls up.

Imagine Figure Skater Review

Imagine Figure Skater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a teen skater myself and my grandmother saw an advertisement for this game and sent it to me.

It is all together a fun game so far. (I received it tonight) The jazzy/elevator music is slightly annoying, but not repetitious like some games. You can choose between 3 girls, they are all different in looks and the booklet gives their description(likes, dislikes, etc).

There is a School, My Room, Skating Rink, Skate Shop, and Training center that you can visit by using the map. At school, you can occasionally chat w/ friends and 2 guys who you're supposed to like. I haven't figured everything out, yet, so I don't nknow much about them.

Yes, you can change your character's hair and clothes. But, you have to go to the Skate Shop and buy things (like a flower for your hair or a new dress) with your allowance.

Every week you are given 2 goals to complete, I.E.: Raising Stamina 1 level and learning the Double Toe Loop at the Skating Rink.
The Skating Rink is a bit confusing at first. To skate, you must go to the man on the ice who is the owner. Then, he'll ask you if you want to practice the "Whatever you're learning". Don't worry about the training, your coach explains everything pretty well. Though, I think some of them talk too long. Luckily, you can skip on through with the A button so they don't spell out every single letter. lol
You are actually on the ice and it does look similar to how it is when I really skate. Th skating sound itself is inaccurate, similara mini lawnmower.
You can either complete or fail the move. It takes her a while to set up for the move, then, the little guide comes up over the touch screen where you guide your stylus over. Except, when she falls after failing the move, she giggles or says, "Oh!" in a happy sort of way that is totally odd because when you fall on your *butt* backwards at the speed she's going, it hurts! Another thing, the coach won't let you leave until you get it right. Yea, you have to turn it off to leave if you don't feel like doing it. LOL

There are a few mini games that you can do at the training center. It depends on what you need to do, like raising stamina 1 level, to acccess a game a certain game. I know there are at least 4 and they are creative, but feeding your girl sushi to gain stamina is weird.

Well, to wrap this up, this game is pretty good in the fun area, (4 Stars) but in the realistic area to me, only 3 stars over all because the jumps and spins are named inaccurately gives a little kid who's never skated the wrong impression. Now, I think any girl over 7-8 would absolutely love this game, as my sisters and I have.

Skate Review

A new series, walking into the mouth of a lion, skate is one of the most innovative and fresh games in the genera.A new control scheme paired with amazingly detailed graphics and challenging game play make for a sure buy if you're a fan of any extreme game series.

First and foremost, if you have a obsessive personality or are a perfectionist stay away from this game, because you'll not be getting any sleep. For everyone else the new flickit controls have a very hard learning curve, but after 15 minutes you should get the hang of it.A few problems with the controls plague this game, its super frustrating to hit the tiniest bump and have your skater turn around in the opposite direction but this is minor in a sea full of awesome.

The story doesn't have a lot of variety but what it does have is entertaining and enough to keep you going to the end.

Overall a solid game with room for great improvement that will leave it on the top of the ramp compared to everything else in the long run.Go pick this up if you've enjoyed other skating games, or if you want to try something new that will leave you having great times for a long time.
