Super Metroid Review

Super Metroid
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's sort of funny how I came to own Super Metroid.Back in 1995, I had some money and I was looking to buy some used Super Nintendo games at the local Movie Gallery.I found one that I wanted, but I had enough money to buy one or two more.I didn't really see any others that I was dying to have, but Super Metroid looked spectacular from the back of the box and I had always heard about how great it was, so I went ahead and bought it.Little did I know that it would turn out to be my favorite game of its kind, and possibly my favorite video game of all time!
When you first start a new game of Super Metroid, a short cinema that consists of 3D pictures and dialogue will start showing and telling the story.I could tell you the story, but that would spoil it.
Your job is to control Samus Aran, and guide her through several different and challenging worlds that mainly consist of futuristic-looking aliens as enemies. While you make your way through the game, you can always pause the game and look at the map to see where you need to go and where you're currently at.
Samus always has a gun that you can use, but there are several other weapons and gadgets that you can find somewhere in the game, and then use. There are missiles, super missiles, bombs, super bombs, other kinds of beams such as an ice beam, new suits such as a gravity suit for the underwater environments, the ability to run EXTREMELY fast, a grappling hook, X-ray vision goggles, extra energy units, and much more.
But it's not a piece of cake for Samus. All over the place, are several different enemies that can fly, eat Samus alive, jump from one side of a room to the other, and more. There are also AWESOME bosses that you have to defeat. These bosses can range from a towering dragon that throws claws at you, a bird that has wings that never get tired, to the all-powerful Mother Brain, and others.
Pretty much, Super Metroid is mainly about exploring the different environments.Samus starts out at scratch, with only one energy unit and a basic gun.You must find missiles, extra energy units, new suits, and all the other items, in order to be able to use them. The more items you find, the better off you'll be, and the better ending that you'll see at the end of the game.
There are also items other than weapons or powerups that need to be found in each world, such as save points (for saving your game), map data, and more.
Everything about Super Metroid couldn't have been any better. The graphics are haunting, well detailed, and couldn't have been any better for this type of game. The backgrounds have great effects such as lightning or morphing effects, and the characters in the game look very sci-fi and detailed.Just like the graphics do, the sound effects and music add to the science fiction and horror theme of Super Metroid.I'm one of the few lucky people in the world who is fortunate enough to own the Super Metroid soundtrack (it was only made in Japan and it's VERY hard to find), and let me tell you, it has the best music I have ever heard in a video game. All the tracks have that horror sound to them and they're all overly catchy.
As for sound effects, all of the sounds from the explosions, to the screeching and terrorizing voices of the enemies, are unbelievable.Super Metroid's control is slick, without being too touchy or sluggish; it's perfect in other words. Finally, Super Metroid has the best replay value of any adventure game I've ever played.I've went all the way through the game at least 50 times, and I'm still not tired of it!And I KNOW that I will NEVER get tired of playing Super Metroid. It's fun to see how many of the items you can find and how fast you can get through the game.
If there is anything bad about Super Metroid, it's the fact that it is only a one-player game.BUT, it is still one of the best games ever made.Super Metroid is as close to perfect as any game that has ever been made, in my opinion.
If you own a Super Nintendo, Super Metroid is a MUST-HAVE!It's not only one of the best games for the Super Nintendo, it's one of the best video games of all time, for any system.Electronic Gaming Monthly recently published a list of the 100 best video games of all time, and they chose Super Metroid as the best game of all time. That's right, they chose it as #1.When you play it, you will see why!Get it today while you can!

Rock N' Roll Racing Review

Rock N' Roll Racing
Average Reviews:

A port of an old Super Nintendo classic, Rock 'N Roll Racing is a fun, addictive racing game. However, don't think that this game is simply about racing. The vehicles are equipped with blasters, mines, oil-squirting machines, and rockets, among other things.Initially you being the game with a cheap, slow vehicle with few weapons. As you progress through the game, you earn money in order to buy weapons for your vehicle, or to buy a whole new vehicle. This is a great feature of the game, as it makes no two careers the same; everytime you play the game you can choose your path to victory. You can have a heavily equip a cheaper vehicle, or you can buy a better vehicle, but you will be unable to equip it with many weapons or armor.
The game uses a top down, isometric view of the race course. It feels like you are driving remote controlled vehicles, rather than some racing games that put you in the driver's seat. This is a unique view for a racing game, and it only helps the charm of Rock 'N Roll racing.
As one would assume, the multiplayer feature is fantastic.Nothing gives quite as much joy as blasting your friend right as he is about to cross the finish line.
Rock 'N Roll Racing is a game any avid Gameboy Advance player should own.It will provide you with countless hours of mindless fun.

Metroid Prime Hunters Review

Metroid Prime Hunters

I bought this game a couple days ago, and after getting familiar with it, I can finally write a review.

Graphics - Let's face it, the ds isn't known for it's graphical quality, especially when it comes to 3D.But these graphics are great. They aren't as good as todays standard consoles, but I don't recall any N64 or Playstation game looking this good.Best out there right now for the DS so I give it a 5/5.Control - Control with the stylus takes a while to get used to, but once you get the hang of it it's a lot like using the mouse for a computer. If your left handed don't worry because they have a special setting made special for you guys.If you still can't get use to the stylus then you can use the buttons for aiming. 4.5/5Sound - If you've heard the music from the original metroid prime then you've heard the music to this game.Sometimes can be very intense to build up suspense of what's going to happen.4/5Replay Value - Just like the other metroid prime games, you have a log book.Playing through the first time, you can ignore this, but filling it up to 100% can be a challenge. You also have energy and missle expansions.Single Player mode is pretty short though.

As for the Online, this is an excellent feature. There's a battle mode and you can chose from any of the character's you have beaten. This can provide for hours of fun.You can also create friends and rivals who you can compete with in 7 different forms of battle. You can also text and voice chat with your friends which was unbelievably clear.I could understand every word when I tried this.(with Online) 5/5

Fun Quality - I personally got bored with the previous metroid prime games with the gamecube, but for some reason this one is different.Maybe it's the online maybe it's the two screens and touch screen, I don't know, but i think what it is is that it's more action orientated and I love action.5/5

Buy or Not - I haven't always liked shooter games like this, but I really enjoyed this one.I would reccomend to BUY.

Overall Score4.7 / 5 (9.4/10)

Metroid: Zero Mission Review

Metroid: Zero Mission
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Metroid: Zero Mission" is a Game Boy Advance remake of the game "Metroid" for the Nintendo Entertainment System, which started the "Metroid" series of games. Many people consider the original game to be the best, in regards to storyline, originality, and etcetera. The new game includes improved graphics, sound, and enemy AI, along with some new missions after the point where the normal game would be completed.
The storyline will be familiar to all fans of the series, seeing as it's the same as "Metroid". The bounty hunter Samus Aran has been hired to go to the planet Zebes and destroy a race of energy-draining creatures known as Metroids. She must also destroy an evil entity known as Mother Brain. Samus herself was orphaned on this planet by the evil Space Pirates (that's actually the name of their species, at least to the humans) and was rescued and raised by a race known as the Chozo. These highly-advanced creatures gave her the power suit that she wears, so that she may destroy the Space Pirates (as Zebes was also at one time a Chozo colony). Now, using the power of her suit and her natural skills, Samus must destroy this threat to the galaxy.
The graphics in this game are very well done, and are a little bit better than the graphics in Metroid Fusion. They are beautiful and immersive. Samus has her original suit, not the bizarre blue punk-style suit she had in Metroid Fusion. Samus gets multiple suits during the course of the game; the basic power suit (which is dark orange), the heat-and-cold resistant Varia suit (which is bulkier and light orange), and the water-pressure resistant Gravity suit (which is like the Varia suit, but purple). There is also a part where Samus loses her power suit and runs around in a jumpsuit, armed only with a pistol (this is a sequence that wasn't in the original game).
The sound in the game is not really impressive. Even though it's better than the NES game, it's still basically blips and bleeps. The music isn't bad, and sets the tone more than the sound effects. There is also a very annoying "low health" sound, which is a little siren that sounds if your health is less than 10% of its maximum. So basically, if you're really hurt, you just hear "beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep" over and over again until you get some health, which isn't always easy. The same problem occurs in the "Legend of Zelda" games, too. Of course, if it's really annoying, the sound can be turned off, but then you miss out on other sound effects.
The gameplay is satisfying. Bosses are often of the "hit its weak spot with a particular weapon" variety, though they still look pretty cool. Samus can perform all sorts of maneuvers, such as her morph ball form, in which she can roll around, her freeze missiles, which can freeze enemies and make them into stepping blocks, and her grapple beam, which she can use to swing around on hooks. There is also a good variety of locations, from ancient Chozo ruins to volcanoes.
Overall, this game is very, very good. It's a nice way of introducing newer gamers to the beginning of the Metroid series. For old-school gamers, beating the game will get you the original NES Metroid game to play.
9/10 (I'm taking one point of for the Low Health Beeps).

Metroid Fusion Review

Metroid Fusion
Average Reviews:

The famed 'Metroid' series really hit its stride with the release of "Super Metroid" for the Super NES platform. It did away with the monotony of "Metroid II" and enhanced the gameplay and environment of the original "Metroid".The puzzles and challenges presented by this version captivated all kinds of gamers. It re-hashed the original story and gave it some extra kick.New weapons and abilities were introduced, as were more complex storylines.Having never played any of the 'Metroid' games before this one, it was quite a spectacular introduction.

Now, fast foward a few years.Knowing that the new GameBoy Advance System is making quite a profit out of porting old Super NES games for handheld, I was interested to see if Nintendo was going to put "Super Metroid" on the GBA.Well, they did, sort of.The game that ended up being developed for GBA was called "Metroid Fusion" and it resembles "Super Metroid" in many ways. However, there are several distinctions. For starters, this takes place AFTER "Super Metroid" and adds a new wrinkle to story by creating a new nemesis called 'parasite X' which was able to procreate after our hero, Samus, wiped out all of the Metroids on SR 388.This parasite is a menace to the entire universe and all traces of it on SR 388 and the orbital research lab must be destroyed."... Fusion" takes place entirely aboard the orbital research lab and employs most of the same gameplay that "Super Metroid" did. It's still a side-scroller and it presents many of the same obstacles of its predecessor. There are numerous different types of doors that are sealed and unable to be accessed unless certain criteria are met. There are other access points and hidden entries that can only be discovered if you have the right weapons or know where to look.In addition, throughout the game, there are several different bosses Samus must defeat in order recover certain powers.

It's hard to truly describe how satisfying this game really is.You really need to play it yourself to see first hand.Rest assured, though. If you liked "Super Metroid", you're going to love this game.

Product Description:
Metroid Fusion is a side-scrolling action game that's more in line with the series' NES origin than its GameCube contemporary, the first-person action game Metroid Prime. In this one, players take the bounty hunter Samus on an extermination mission through a research facility to kill X parasites--nasty creatures that absorb and assimilate the powers of their host. After she survived an X attack through the use of a vaccine made with X parasite DNA, she can now absorb the parasites to regain health and obtain special powers, like the morph ball, space jump, and wave beam. The problem is that the parasites are quickly making their way through the research lab's many dangerous projects and subsuming their abilities.
As a special bonus to GameCube owners, Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion can each unlock special features in the other game via the Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance cable. For example, by completing Metroid Fusion, you can unlock the original NES version of Metroid in Metroid Prime. By completing Metroid Prime, you can unlock Samus's fusion suit for use in Metroid Prime.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Review

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Average Reviews:

I remember when the hype for the first Gamecube Metroid was buzzing. All the talk about the fps mode, all the sneers and the scowls regarding not actually being able to see Samus...and then the game came out.And maybe I'm just looking in the wrong circles, but I haven't met a single person who disliked the first Metroid Prime. It was, for all intents and purposes, a perfect game.

From what I've played of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (I'm a little stuck at 9% in the Agon Wastes, and gamefaqs doesn't have anything up yet), I can definitely say its much of that same excellence with a little more added on for good measure.Once again, the most impressive aspect of the game seems to be the environments.Best example I've seen so far is the lightening that pours from the sky in the Wastes...lightening which can actually hurt you in the off chance that it does hit you.And the array of new enemies doesn't hurt the overall look of the game. But the real outstanding feature are the light and dark worlds, which are the "echoes" referenced in the title.

Reminescent of Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past, every environment has its mirror image. The difference is that Aether's other half has a little bit of a goth complex, and as a result the enemies there are not only darker, but stronger. The environment is inhospitable to even Miss Aran, who is forced to hop from Luminoth beacon to beacon to minimize time in the miasma.Such is the life of a bounty hunter. And honestly, it gets a little irritating, but that's probably my biggest complaint.I will also agree with EGM's Shane that the plot seems like more of a Rare-style fetch quest than the average Metroid game, and nowhere near the incredible Metroid: Fusion plot.As for multiplayer, the experience hasn't been amazing.Fun for a while, as most multiplayer games are, but if you don't have a full group of people, you're going to get bored pretty quick.

But look on the bright side. The cinemas are brilliant, better than the first game (especially when Dark Samus gets into the fray).I wish I could provide feedback on a final boss and an ending, but I've still got some ways to go, and with a game like this, I gotta be honest...I wanna take my time and enjoy this.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Review

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me start off by saying- hands down, this is one of the best video games i've ever played! I've been playing games for over 20 years, and have played all the greats on all the systems. Metroid Prime 3 deserves a spot along with the best of the best. This game literally changes the playing field for first-person shooters / adventures. The control is unbelievably precise, you can aim perfectly and naturally with the wiimote. After playing Metroid on Wii it's actually hard to use the dual analog controllers again, they feel so stiff and imprecise. There's fantastic motion-based controls as well, like thrusting the nunchuck forward and then back to rip the shield of enemies with your grapple beam. Graphically, Metroid 3 sets a new standard on the Wii, it's by far the best looking game on the system. The graphics are so good in fact, they almost give games on my 360 a run for their money. The art design is superb, from the aliens to the level design. Puzzles and power-ups are top notch, you even get to use Samus' ship for the first time ever. There are many worlds and locations to explore, each with distinctive characteristics, and beautiful graphics. The boss battles are some of the best i've ever played, you have to work hard to figure out their weakness and beat them, and it's just so gratifying. All of this wouldn't work without the superb controls, which i really can't emphasive enough. The aiming is spot-on, wherever you point, Samus aims and fires. The other thing that really sets this game apart is the gameplay- way more thinking is required than average first-person shooters. Besides blasting bad guys, you truly have to explore the many worlds and solve puzzles, which is the epitome of all Metroid games, and lots of fun. It's never tedious or frustrating though, you can always access a logbook to see current objectives, or even get hints if your desperate. I could go on and on about how great this game is, but you get the idea. Metroid Prime 3 is a true masterpiece, and is an absolute must-buy for any self-respecting Wii owner. In my humble opinion, this is one of the best games of all-time.

You ARE Samus with Wii control! By moving around with the Nunchuk and aiming Samus's gun with the Wii Remote, you'll do more than look through the eyes of Samus-you'll experience a quantum leap in first-person control. Fire on the run, grapple enemies and yank off their shields, or manipulate machinery with movements of the Nunchuk and Wii Remote-it all adds up to a level of immersion only possible on the Nintendo Wii, and the best first-person controls on any platform, period. **Corruption is everywhere... Dark Samus, Samus's longtime nemesis, is corrupting entire planets by launching enormous seeds called Leviathans into them. Samus must travel to multiple planets-each with unique alien landscapes and dangers-to fight the corruption and track several other bounty hunters, all the while fighting the spreading Phazon that threatens to take over her body completely. As it corrupts her, it also grants her incredible powers...**Enter Hypermode! Samus will employ a never-before-used device called a Phazon Enhancement Device (P.E.D) that harnesses the Phazon within her and puts her into a state called Hypermode. In Hypermode, Samus can destroy Phazon impediments and annihilate enemies with superpowered weapons...but it drains her health to use it, and she risks utter corruption if she doesn't empty her Phazon meter within a certain time frame. You'll need to carefully balance your need for ultimate power with the inherent danger of corruption.

Metroid Prime Review

Metroid Prime
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had the priviledge of playing a couple of hours of Metroid Prime, and I liked what I saw.
The game began with Samus on an outside platform. Thousands of asteroids were flying across the sky, and she could go to a clear spot on the platform and shoot them. Ultimately, however, she needed to search her surroundings for hidden devices that would open the doors of the structure. The adventure doesn't really begin until Samus enters the building.
This game has all kinds of terrain to explore--including some very Turok-esque jungles. These are huge places.I have no idea how long it will take people to finish the game, but I'm betting better than 60 hours.
Seen through Samus's visor, Metroid Prime is every bit as much about exploration and puzzle solving as it is about shooting. Samus's visor includes a window that exposes hidden signs and symbols. Once you uncover these clues, it is up to you to figure out how to arrange them to unlock door and find hidden items.
Metroid Prime's camera shifts to the third-person perspective when Samus curls up in a ball and rolls places. She rolls through tunnels that are otherwise too small to explore. By placing explosives on the ground, she can bounce her balled-up self to reach elevated tunnels.
The game also has these really nifty half-pipe areas.Once you find the right explosives, you can launch Samus over the top of the half-pipes to reach otherwise inaccessible ledges.
Per past Metroid games, Metroid Prime has plenty of creepy vermin to kill.
Thanks to the first-person perspective, Metroid Prime does not suffer the irritating camera problems that have plagued so many of the latest 3D games. You are inside Samus's helmet, so you see what she sees. Better look quickly, though. When the action gets going, outer space thingies will come at you from all directions.
The art direction in this game is excellent beyond belief. I doubt that any PlayStation 2 game will ever reach this level of graphic quality. This even rivals Halo--and that is saying a lot.
The big complaint about Metroid Prime is that played from the first-person perspective, it cannot possibly have the same search-and-explore feel as earlier games--particularly Super Metroid for the Super Nintendo. This was a fair concern--but Nintendo guards its franchises carefully and Retro Studios has been true to the original vision. Metroid Prime does have that perfect blend of explore and shoot.
Actually, for those of you who play PC games, Metroid Prime feels a little--and I did say a little--like System Shock II from Looking Glass. If you played System Shock II as a naval officer instead of a spy or a marine, it was about exploring and setting traps and hacking into systems.
The weakness in this comparison is that the navy guy in System Shock II could not strap on anti-gravity boots or swing across ceilings--Samus does. System Shock II was brilliant in its sci fi reality and its feeling of danger. Metroid Prime has a more powerful fantasy element.
I, obviously, have not had the chance to finish the game, but I love this game. I absoultely love it.

Metroid Prime Pinball Review

Metroid Prime Pinball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There happens to be so much going on with the handheld world these days. Nevertheless, the guilty pleasures from the arcades always find a unique way of creeping into some great games, especially from pinball. That has been the case with Nintendo during the past year. For Nintendo's Game Boy Advance, they really hit it big with the success of Mario Pinball Land. It just really brought to life the adventure pinball franchises again. That has also been the case recently with Nintendo's DS system. They had to find a great way to conjure that pinball action again, and it is right here from the brinks of Samus.

Metroid Prime Pinball for the Nintendo DS brings out all the action of the Metroid series, and the uniqueness of pinball. The game offers all sorts of great action with unique different tables that range from traditional, to battle-style matches. The graphics in the game are truly remarkable, and absolutely bring out some of the most remakrable gameplay for a video pinball game ever. The controls for the game also are very simple and easy to operate. While there happens to be little to nothing with the stylus attachment that can be of use here, it doesn't change the fun. The game also makes full use of the Nintendo DS rumble pak, which is also featured as a attachment with the game, by bringing all the action with each motion of the bumpers. While you sometimes lose some motions when you lose sight of the Samus ball, especially for when it turns back into Samus, especially for the boss battle tables. Although it is on some, but not all the tables, it can be a bit of a hinderence.

Nevertheless, many times when it comes to video pinball games, Metroid Prime Pinball for the Nintendo DS is a great buy, and a must have for anyone who is into the need for a classic case of pinball mania. I loved playing this in Toys R' Us, and I can't wait to own it soon. I also hope you do the same thing too.
