Super Bomberman 2 Review

Super Bomberman 2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Super Bomberman 2 can be played by up to four players (if you have the peripheral for the SNES that allows you to do that). There is a one-player adventure game in which you control Bomberman, and try to make your way through several different levels.
In this one-player adventure, Bomberman uses bombs as his main weapon. The levels consist of many different environments such as fire levels, ones set in outer space, castle stages, and many more.In each level, Bomberman must use bombs in order to do whatever needs to be done to open the door that leads to the next and more challenging level. In some levels, you must destroy all of the enemies that are on the screen, and in others, you might have to do things such as light up all the lights, or avoid a furnace's fire in order to reach the next level.
You can find many different powerups and weapons that Bomberman can use. There are basic bombs, power bombs, and even remote controlled bombs (you get to decide when the bomb goes off).Even more, there are many powerups that make the bombs more controllable, or that can help Bomberman out tremendously. There are roller skates for extra speed, fire icons for larger bomb blasts, gloves for picking up and throwing bombs, kick, which allows Bomberman to kick the bombs across the screen, and more.
Bomberman will need to find as many bombs and powerups as he can, because at the end of each world, there is a challenging boss that is waiting to turn Bomberman into a dead man.
To be honest, the one-player adventure game that I just explained in Super Bomberman 2, is fun, but it is NOT the best thing about the game. What sets Super Bomberman 2 apart from most other Super Nintendo games, is its classic multiplayer mode. You can play up to four players simultaneously, which can add up to a lot of trash talking.Or, if you want, you can play by yourself against three computer-controlled players.
In this multiplayer mode of Super Bomberman 2, you and a friend or two or three, can duke it out in any of 10 different multiplayer levels. The idea is to use a bomb and blow up all of your opponents. The last person standing will be the winner. If you and your friends choose to, you can choose to play either with the time on or off.If you play with the time on, then when the timer reaches a certain time, the maze will start closing in, providing an even greater challenge.
Just like the single-player adventure game, there are weapons and powerups waiting to be found in these multiplayer stages. There are fire powerups, skates, gloves, kick icons, diseases (the skull icons) that can be good or bad, and more.Once somebody gets a win, that player will earn a trophy. The first player to earn a certain number of trophies (3 on default), will be pronounced the champion, and will then be able to have a chance to play a sort of bonus.
The 10 multiplayer levels are all a lot different from each other. There is a basic one that just has a bunch of blocks, one with transporters that will transport players to the other side of the screen, one full of mushrooms that can be jumped on, a slippery ice level, one with a conveyor belt, and more.
To make a long story full of nostalgia short, let me just put it like this.Super Bomberman 2 is one of the best multiplayer games that have ever been made, or that will ever be made, for any system. If you want a great game that you can have fun playing with your friends, brothers, etc., I definitely recommend getting Super Bomberman 2.The one-player adventure game is challenging and it's a lot of fun too.So if you get this game, you'll have yourself a good one-player game, and a GREAT 2-4 player game.

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals Review

Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals

This game, in my childhood, was the beacon of wakefullness.I would awaken at 3:30 AM to play for four hours straight until I went to school where I would think about its greatness until I came home, only to play for another few hours. This perfectly describes its pull and incredible execution. The battle system was markedly improved over its limping predecessor, and the storyline served compulsion to the very end. This was a prequel of sorts to Lufia 1, and what a brilliant story it is.I wouldn't want to ruin the story for any prospective buyer, so I won't divulge any details, but take my humble word for it--this game is very worth your money and should be a part of anybody RPG lovers library.

Lufia II is a prequel to the first Lufia game, Lufia and the Fortress of Doom. It follows the story of the first main character's ancestor, Maxim, and explains the origins of the war between mankind and a group of superhumans called Sinistrals. The story is centered around the hero Maxim, a swordsman from the town of Elcid who is born with a natural ability to fight and is destined to destroy the Sinistrals. Throughout his journey, he meets other warriors who are able to confront the Sinistrals as well. The game is a prequel to Lufia & the Fortress of Doom, set ninety-nine years before it, telling the story of how the Sinistrals first appeared in the world and the battles fought against them.Lufia II made a number of changes from the first game. Dungeons no longer have random encounters and there are hundreds of puzzles throughout the game, ranging from simple to extremely challenging. It also introduced new skills, such as a variety of weapons that could be used to stun monsters or solve puzzles, and IP attacks.

Super Metroid Review

Super Metroid
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's sort of funny how I came to own Super Metroid.Back in 1995, I had some money and I was looking to buy some used Super Nintendo games at the local Movie Gallery.I found one that I wanted, but I had enough money to buy one or two more.I didn't really see any others that I was dying to have, but Super Metroid looked spectacular from the back of the box and I had always heard about how great it was, so I went ahead and bought it.Little did I know that it would turn out to be my favorite game of its kind, and possibly my favorite video game of all time!
When you first start a new game of Super Metroid, a short cinema that consists of 3D pictures and dialogue will start showing and telling the story.I could tell you the story, but that would spoil it.
Your job is to control Samus Aran, and guide her through several different and challenging worlds that mainly consist of futuristic-looking aliens as enemies. While you make your way through the game, you can always pause the game and look at the map to see where you need to go and where you're currently at.
Samus always has a gun that you can use, but there are several other weapons and gadgets that you can find somewhere in the game, and then use. There are missiles, super missiles, bombs, super bombs, other kinds of beams such as an ice beam, new suits such as a gravity suit for the underwater environments, the ability to run EXTREMELY fast, a grappling hook, X-ray vision goggles, extra energy units, and much more.
But it's not a piece of cake for Samus. All over the place, are several different enemies that can fly, eat Samus alive, jump from one side of a room to the other, and more. There are also AWESOME bosses that you have to defeat. These bosses can range from a towering dragon that throws claws at you, a bird that has wings that never get tired, to the all-powerful Mother Brain, and others.
Pretty much, Super Metroid is mainly about exploring the different environments.Samus starts out at scratch, with only one energy unit and a basic gun.You must find missiles, extra energy units, new suits, and all the other items, in order to be able to use them. The more items you find, the better off you'll be, and the better ending that you'll see at the end of the game.
There are also items other than weapons or powerups that need to be found in each world, such as save points (for saving your game), map data, and more.
Everything about Super Metroid couldn't have been any better. The graphics are haunting, well detailed, and couldn't have been any better for this type of game. The backgrounds have great effects such as lightning or morphing effects, and the characters in the game look very sci-fi and detailed.Just like the graphics do, the sound effects and music add to the science fiction and horror theme of Super Metroid.I'm one of the few lucky people in the world who is fortunate enough to own the Super Metroid soundtrack (it was only made in Japan and it's VERY hard to find), and let me tell you, it has the best music I have ever heard in a video game. All the tracks have that horror sound to them and they're all overly catchy.
As for sound effects, all of the sounds from the explosions, to the screeching and terrorizing voices of the enemies, are unbelievable.Super Metroid's control is slick, without being too touchy or sluggish; it's perfect in other words. Finally, Super Metroid has the best replay value of any adventure game I've ever played.I've went all the way through the game at least 50 times, and I'm still not tired of it!And I KNOW that I will NEVER get tired of playing Super Metroid. It's fun to see how many of the items you can find and how fast you can get through the game.
If there is anything bad about Super Metroid, it's the fact that it is only a one-player game.BUT, it is still one of the best games ever made.Super Metroid is as close to perfect as any game that has ever been made, in my opinion.
If you own a Super Nintendo, Super Metroid is a MUST-HAVE!It's not only one of the best games for the Super Nintendo, it's one of the best video games of all time, for any system.Electronic Gaming Monthly recently published a list of the 100 best video games of all time, and they chose Super Metroid as the best game of all time. That's right, they chose it as #1.When you play it, you will see why!Get it today while you can!

Contra III: The Alien Wars Review

Contra III: The Alien Wars
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Super NES is my personal favorite Nintendo system mainly for its large list of great games. When it first came out, it automatically had great games to start off with, which normally a system doesn't bring in the good batch until a few months later. This game, Contra III: The Alien Wars, is among the first batch of Super NES to be released into the market. And how did this game turn out?Nothing short than a gaming masterpiece.
THE GOOD
Contra brings back the elements of the original games, such as the "one hit equals death" aspect that many dislike, infinite ammunition and the variety of guns, and good ol' fashioned beatdown that can either be taken solo or you can bash your enemies with a friend in its two-player mode.In addition to this, you have the ability to "switch" weapons using the L and R buttons and when you hold onto both, you fire each weapon simultaneously (you can have two different or identical weapons at a time). In fact, if you wanted to keep the weapon, you can always select the other one in case. Also, the graphics are quite good for the time period, but really, if you're a true gamer you could care less.
The difficulty is a major point for me in the Contra series because the enemies keep coming at you and then at the end of each stage, you fight a humongous boss.Pure gaming bliss.
THE BAD
Find something wrong with this game usually causes fatality. If you think the lack of save points is a drawback, you're just a [....].
OVERALL
This game is among the elite entries in the Super NES's library.THIS IS A MUST HAVE.If you dislike this game and think that it's bad, you are wrong.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Review

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(...) Instead of Mario and Luigi being the stars this time around, a group of Yoshis are the main characters.Baby Luigi has been kidnapped by the all-mighty Bowser, so it's up to Baby Mario and Yoshi to try and rescue Baby Luigi. That's right, Mario and Luigi are babies in Yoshi's Island. And there's not a princess to rescue for once.
Yoshi's Island includes 6 huge worlds that are loaded with many unique and interesting levels. There are 10 levels in each world. Each world has a mini-boss and a major boss that you must track down and defeat. (...)All you really have to do is get to the end of each of level and defeat all the bosses in order to beat the game.
On top of all of the fun gameplay, you can also add great graphics, sound, control, and replay value to Yoshi's Island's list.Just about every environment in Yoshi's Island is a treasure to look at.All the characters are well designed, and the backgrounds can range from crystal caves that flash, 3D-looking mountains, to eye-popping waterfalls made of water or lava.As for sound, most of the sound effects are cartoonish, but well done. Many of the music tunes are catchy, and none of them are bad.Control wise, Yoshi's Island is very easy to control. The controls aren't sluggish or overly responsive; it's easy to do anything in this game.
Finally, the replay value and fun factor are top notch for Yoshi's Island. The six years I've owned Yoshi's Island, I've started from the beginning, went all the way through the six worlds' levels, and beat the game several times, and I still haven't got tired of playing it.And I don't think I ever will! This game is THAT fun.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is, in my opinion, one of the best video games that have ever been made.Even though it's so much different from all the other Mario games that have ever been made, it is still a GREAT game.To make it short, this game is a classic! If you have a Super Nintendo and you like action/adventure games or Super Mario World, you've got to add Yoshi's Island to your collection!

Killer Instinct Review

Killer Instinct
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The following will be some counters used against some points made by previous reviewers who either are obviously uninformed or unfortunately hopelessly ignorant.

Originality:
The main concern regarding Killer Instinct is apparently that it is unoriginal. One reviewer suggested that it has a six button fighting scheme ripped off from Street Fighter. First of all, KI and SF are apples and oranges. When Super Street Fighter II Turbo came out in 1994, it introduced a system where the character would execute a combination of combos by building a separate energy bar and then releasing it at will. The combo system in KI is not only completely different, but it innovated the industry by bringing fighters altogether to a new level. Never before has a fighting game possess combos as high as 50 hits. The arcade version even allows infinite juggling! No other game has anything distantly similar to KI's exceptional combo system of openers, autoseconds, linkers and endings. No other game has the patented "combo breaker" that allows players to end their opponent's assault right in the middle of their combo. Thus, the argument that KI ripped off SF's fighting style is quite absurd. You're better off comparing SF to Fatal Fury or King of Fighters in the SNK Company. Or better yet, you might even find more similarities between SF and Marvel because KI is in a completely different league.

If anything, KI is more similar to Mortal Kombat in its game design. Even so, MK has utterly nothing on KI when it solely comes down to gameplay. KI not only has the uniqueness of MK's special moves for each character, it also has a much superior combo system and overall a better flow in the game. Although it is somewhat true that the "no mercy" finishers in KI are in the same vein as the "Fatalities" of MK, KI was still able to innovate this further by the creation of the Ultimate Combo, allowing players to perform finishers in the middle of a combo. MK also wished it came up with the genius of the Ultra Combo, hands down the greatest feature ever made for a video game.

Weak Controls:
How exactly does Killer Instinct possess "weak controls"? It combines the style of controls for special moves in traditional Street Fighter (such as the basic D,DF,F+P) with the ones introduced by Mortal Kombat (such as F,F+P). Therefore, how can it possibly do any wrong? For characters such as Cinder, KI's controls allow you to use both styles! A lot of the more complex combos are very difficult to perform, but that's the deal with any game. Practice makes perfect.

Life Bars:
The life bars do not regenerate between rounds in Killer Instinct because the game happens to be cumulative. Do not approach a fight with an expectation of two rounds but rather one. Comebacks may be tough, but it is definitely not impossible. I've seen situations where players are in the "last breath" stage where the announcer says "danger", randomly push the pad and buttons rapidly, escape and win. Why? Because you do over twice your normal damage in the "last breath" stage! There are always opportunities to make comebacks but this is more issues concerning the gamer, than the actual game.

Balance:
Contrary to some false accusations, Killer Instinct is actually perfectly balanced. Just because some characters are easier to learn than others does not make them superior. This is actually part of what makes the game so appealing, the learning process of each character's advantages and disadvantages. Whether it's Cinder's air priority, Orchid's ground edge or Thunder's chipping technique, it all eventually evens out. Spinal, the hardest character to learn is unstoppable if a player can master his specialities. Riptor's amazingly fast transition between moves makes him a dominant force as well as Sabrewulf's ability to manually power up through his howl. Even Eyedol, KI's best character has lag time, just like everyone else. If the computer takes advantage of an initial mistake, combo break him. Again, this is concerning more of the game's strategy than game design.

Honestly, there are no flaws in this game. If so, they are so trival and miniscule, it's not even worth mentionning. Killer Instinct is undeniably a video game classic, period.

Super Mario Kart Review

Super Mario Kart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's hard to think of where to begin in a review of a game as great as Super Mario Kart.Super Mario Kart was the first racing game of its type, and now there are a lot of games that have copies its formula, such as Looney Tunes Racing.
In Super Mario Kart, you can choose from many of the famous Nintendo mascots. They are: Mario, Luigi, Princess, Bowser, Donkey Kong Jr., Toad, Yoshi, and Koopa. Each of the racers are equipped with a go-cart, and they all have their own sets of strengths and weaknesses. For example, Toad has fast starts, but is weak and will get bumped around a lot.Bowser is big, so he has slow starts, but doesn't get bumped around that easily. And Mario doesn't have any major ups or downs, he's average in all aspects.
The trend that Super Mario Kart began in racing games is being able to use unlikely weapons such as turtle shells, bolts of lightning, banana peels, and more, against the other racers on the tracks. Each of these weapons have different effects. When a racer runs over a banana peel, or when a turtle shell hits them, they will spin out and come to a complete stop for a few seconds.Lightning causes all the players to shrink, which slows them down and makes them more vulnerable to being run over and flattened flatter than a pancake.Stars give the racer temporary invincibility, mushrooms allow for a short burst of speed, ghosts allow you to steal somebody else's weapon, and feathers will make you jump so high that Michael Jordan would even be jealous.
There are at least 20 tracks that are available to race on in Super Mario Kart. The tracks all have great variety. There are beach tracks, chilling ice tracks, normal dirt tracks, a road made of rainbow, haunted ghost tracks, and many more.
There are a few modes that are available in Super Mario Kart.First is the Mario Kart GP mode. This is the mode that you can race in a one-player game or a two-player game, in which you go up against several computer-controlled players.Once you complete a few laps and finish the race, the standings will come up.If you come in a good enough place overall, you have the chance of winning a bronze, silver, or gold trophy, and possibly opening up new tracks. That brings me to my next point.
In GP (Grand Prix) mode, there is a 50cc, 100cc, and a 150cc mode.50cc is the easiest, with 100cc and 150cc getting progressively harder since the computers will get much faster. While racing in the GP mode, you can use the various weapons and powerups I described earlier, and you just need to come in first place if you can.
Next is the Time Trial option. In Time Trial, it's just you against the clock. When you complete a race, your overall time will be saved on a list of the best times if you were fast enough.
In the VS. mode, you and a friend can race against each other on any of the tracks in a two-player game. This is a good way to bring up a lot of trash talking.
Finally and best of all, is the Battle Mode.In Battle, you and somebody else (it's two-player, you can't go up against the computer in Battle Mode), go to one of four specially designed tracks and duke it out against each other using the turtle shells, bananas, stars, and more. Both you and your opponent have three balloons circling your go-cart.Every time you get hit, you will lose a balloon. The first player to lose all three of their balloons, is the loser.
Everything about Super Mario Kart is simply classic. The graphics are colorful and well-rendered.This was the first game to use the Mode 7 graphics chip, and it was definitely a plus. All the characters are well designed, and the tracks themselves look detailed for a 16-bit game. The sounds sound just like a Mario game should, which is different, but great nonetheless. The music is very catchy and classic. As for control, it's a cinch to make your racer/battler do anything that you need them to do, without any frustration included.
Super Mario Kart is simply one of the best video games ever made! It's one of those games that NEVER gets old no matter how much you play it and it's so fun that fun isn't a good enough word for it.Whether you like racing games or not, you will love Super Mario Kart!I'm not a huge fan of racing games and it's one of my 10, if not 5, favorite video games of all time!!
If you have a Super Nintendo and don't have Super Mario Kart yet, get this game now!!Your SNES collection isn't complete without it!

Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting Review

Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
Average Reviews:

Street Fighter 2 was the first fighting game I owned on my SNES and is still one of my favorites.I skipped Champion Edition but when Turbo came out (the one with E Honda fighting Sagat on the cover) I knew it was good enough to buy again. This version features all the original 8 characters plus the 4 bosses, and the ability to fight with each character against himself, but does not include the 4 "new fighters" who are mostly cheap or ... (I really hate T Hawk). This is in my opinion the superior version of Street Fighter 2 on the best system. It seems like the SNES controller was made for this game, and the action so so smooth and beautiful.I had some fun playing this game against the computer but it really shines in versus mode.I cant tell you how many hours my brothers and I played this game but it became as much of a male bonding activity for us as anything.I think i still remember the code to jack up the turbo from the usual 3 stars to 10 (the matches are over in a matter of seconds) up down left right L Y R B or something like that.Man i really want to play this game again, hopefully my copy will arrive soon.It really is the most balanced and accurate fighting game of all time....Hadoken
