Doom Review

Doom

I saw Doom for the first time about 10 years ago when a friend of mine was playing it on his computer....and up until that point, playing old 8-bit Nintendo games summed up a fun day for me. Don't get me wrong, and I'm not knocking some NES classics here at all by any means, but I must say, I fell in love with Doom the moment I saw it. Too bad the (...) was so hooked too that he wouldn't let me play.
So....fast forward to the release of the Playstation....and the eventual release of Doom. I bought Doom the first day it came out....and my Playstation wasn't turned off for 32 straight hours. I ABSOLUTELY love first-person shooter type games, and aside from Rise Of The Triad (the first FPS I ever played) Doom turned my world upside down.
This is, by far, the best video game on the planet....hell, in the universe.

The translation from the PC to the Playstation was flawless....hell, in my opinion, it's even better. You get all of the Doom and Doom II levels, and an additional 5 secret levels custom-made for the Playstation only. That's 59 total levels of mayhem....an immersive quest that you can NOT tear yourself away from.

Sure, by today's standards, the graphics are primitive and full of sprites and look a little blocky when you're up close....the enemies and items are modeled in 2D, meaning you can never look at their backside....and heck, you can't even jump....but....WHO CARES? This game is heaven, and even today, will still scare the (...) out of you....even if you memorized the location of every enemy in the game, knowing what to expect around every corner.
Don't believe me? Well try this situation on for size: You just cleared out a room full of Imps and Sergeant Zombies with every last round of shotgun ammo you had. You turn the next corner and hello....there's a Baron of Hell. *Change weapon to BFG9000* (...), you only have enough ammo for one shot. You aim, shoot, and barely hit the moron. He's still coming at you....and, as you cycle through your weapons....you notice only your pistol has ammo left. Oh (...). *runs*
That right there is the definition of fun....excitement....and horror....all making this game the number one video game of all time.

11 out of 10....and yes I did that on purpose....as Doom is more than perfect....

Star Wars Battlefront Review

Star Wars Battlefront

I love this game. I totally understand where many of the negative reviews are coming from...but as a person who only plays games once in a great while, I must say that I thoroughly enjoy this title.

It's easy to learn and you can just jump right in a play for ten mins or 5 hrs and not get bored...granted, if I played 5 hrs a day every day for a couple weeks this game would get old REAL fast...but it's certainly a solid game with good graphics.

If you are a Star Wars fan but not a gamer (as I am), this is a great game for you.

Spider-Man 3 Review

Spider-Man 3

Now this is what I'm talking about!!!
This game is really cool. I have not been able to put it down. I haven't completed it yet, but here it goes. I never had a chance to play Spiderman 2 on the PS2, but I know that this installation is 10 times exponentially more fun than the 1st SM (Spiderman). The free roam ability is reminiscent of the Grand Theft Auto series along with the many missions. There are also sub missions where you have to stop crimes in progress while just swinging through the city by fighting against the different crime gangs. It says there are 42 missions. And these missions are very detailed & in depth I must add. I completed the 1st Lizard mission & the large underground sewer environment in this mission is awesome. I completed the 1st Scorpion mission which took place on an island fortress that was also very detailed & the graphics were great. I have unlocked the New Goblin playable character & I have only completed a couple of mission/races with him but the 6 AXIS control is really, really, cool. You actually steer the glider by articulating the controller. I REALLY LIKE THIS. The detail of NYC is very accurate down to the missing twin towers :-(. Times Square actually has the advertisement monitors on the side of the buildings that have real ads. What's really cool is the lighting & detail in these ads.The swing controls of SM are very good. My only complaints are that are when I was fighting the Scorpion there was "selective damage" to him in the fight. During the fight I was able to inflict damage, but at other parts of the fight my attacks just passed through him & did no damage. This happened a lot during the fight. WTF developers?! This was very annoying... Also there are instances where you have to pick up an object or interact with the environment by pressing the square button. Example, I was on a mission where the clock was ticking & I had to get rid of a bomb. When standing in front of the bomb the square action button appears on the screen. Well, if you are standing in the wrong spot & press the square button, SM will perform attacks instead. THIS IS VERY ANNOYING.... My last gripe would be & I don't feel that it could have been addressed because SM can climb walls & he is in weird positions sometimes, is the camera angles are confusing & you don't know where you are. I usually end up just jumping to the ground to figure out where I am.Other than these complaints the game is excellent. I am glad that Sony developers finally created a game for the PS3 that is worthy of the system's potential. This is what I call a next generation game.

SceneIt? Includes 4 Big Button GamePads Review

I had my doubts about this game -- especially after seeing a picture of the included controllers. However, I stand corrected. This was one of the best game purchases that I've made this year. The game is very fun, and has been a hit with my family. Also, the tracking of the questions/puzzles and the variety of categories makes for an exciting and lasting experience.

For the price of a normal game, you get 4 wireless buzzer controllers, batteries, and a USB wireless controller IR port.Definitely worth it after you consider how much you actually get with the game.

I'm hoping that MS decides to expand the experience in 2 ways: 1) Through downloadable content through their Live service (in the form of new questions or puzzle types) and 2) Creates new trivia games that can utilize the same controller setup.

Scene It! is a pleasant surprise for Xbox 360 gamers who want to add some casual family/friends gaming to their system (especially for those who don't own a Wii).I hope that people buy this game just to show MS that there is a viable market for quality party games on the Xbox 360, and encourages them to release other great trivia titles.

Disney's Emperor's New Groove Action Game Review

Disney's Emperor's New Groove Action Game
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me say that my sound, and everything else, worked fine, and I even installed this game on an older PC running Windows 2000 Advanced Server, even though it doesn't meet the requirements for it.I've also installed it without a problem on a system that was pretty hip a couple years ago, which means it's pretty dated now, running Windows 98 and with no new drivers.
I'm not a very experienced gamer. On the other hand, I'm in my 30's. I found The Emperor's New Groove challenging and fun. While from a strictly technical standpoint, I can see arguments that the graphics aren't perfect (as mentioned in reviews for versions of the game for other systems), the graphics were absorbing to me. I also loved the music and the funny, sarcastic attitude of the characters.
You control Kuzco, the Emperor, in his transformed, llama state. The game begins high up in the mountains, in Pacha's village, and your goal is to travel back to the royal palace to be transformed back into a human Emperor. The game is a series of levels that take you through the mountains, rivers, catacombs, etc. You have to collect coins and other items, solve puzzles, and make many challenging jumps--in many ways, The Emperor's New Groove can be considered a cross between an adventure/logic, an action and a platform game, just like most other Disney Action Games.
One of the things that makes the game challenging is that you only can take five hits before you lose a life. It is possible to collect extra lives, but it usually isn't easy to find the object you need to get them. Until you've mastered defeating enemies like the "evil" royal guards, you can take those five hits in a matter of seconds. Losing all your lives (I often only had one) means starting over from the beginning of a level. When you're in a level that takes 40 minutes to get through and you have to defeat the guard 20 minutes into it, that can be quite a challenge.
Of course, to experienced gamers, say someone who plays computer/video games an hour or two per day and has been doing so for 10 - 15 years or so, this might not be such a hard game. But as a Disney title, The Emperor's New Groove is directed at kids from 8 and up. For more inexperienced gamers of any age, it may be _too_ challenging. My wife, for instance, who hasn't tried playing computer games before this title (she liked the film so much that she wanted to try it) has given up for the time being, at least until she builds some experience on easier titles. I'm a bit more experienced, but there were levels here, such as the very long one full of huge Venus Flytraps, lava pits, bees, elaborate arrow booby traps, etc. that took me _at least_ 5 or 6 hours of gameplay to get through.
Elsewhere, I've read some complaints about the way the 3D camera automatically scrolls. I agree that when you're in a tight spot, the camera changes can make the game quite difficult. Also, you have to position the camera in order to make many of the jumps, and tight spots, as well as trying to maneuver so you won't miss the jump, can make positioning the camera correctly _extremely_ difficult. But that's part of the challenge, isn't it?
In my opinion, the most recent Disney Action Games I've played--which also includes The two newer Buzz Lightyear games, 102 Dalamatians: Puppies to the Rescue (this is the best one for the most inexperienced gamers, since it's much harder to die) and Donald Duck Goin' Quackers--are not only the best Disney games so far, but are the most fun games I've played yet. Of course it helps that I'm a huge Disney fan, but I enjoy the Disney games more than anything aimed at my demographic.
