Tomb Raider Legend Review

Tomb Raider Legend

The Legend member of the Tomb Raider series combines both traditional platforming and shooting along with some Dragon's Lair style button pressing timing.

I'm very pleased that Lara Croft has moved beyond being a "huge cleavage woman that male gamers simply like to watch" and turned into a legitimate action heroine. Yes, she's still quite busty, but she's actually admired now for her ability to shoot, think and puzzle her way out of solutions.

Many of the puzzles she faces are traditional. You climb up pipes and walls to reach higher areas. You push boxes in order to block spinning fans of death or to cross flaming passageways. You kill off bosses in a variety of ways.

In addition, you have timed sequence actions. These are much like Bond Moments from James Bond games, or the gameplay of the old classic Dragon's Lair. In these games the game makers would create gorgeously fluid sequences of animation and you would be instructed to hit buttons at precise moments in order to keep the animation flowing. I always found this style of gameplay to be a bit hokey - it took you out of the 'immersion' of the gameplay - but on the other hand it does mean you can view some fantastic cinematics when you get the timing right.

The game is relatively quick on the first pass, but there are plenty of secrets and items to find to get you to go back and replay a number of times. Still, for the high price you pay for 360 games, I really would have expected this to be MUCH longer. On one hand, you have games like Elder Scrolls Oblivion that you can literally play for months and months and enjoy it. On the other hand, you have games like this where you could play through in say 6-8 hours and be completely done. Surely there was plenty of room on the DVD to fit more levels.

The graphics were quite impressive - from the lighting to the flickering flames and dark tombs. The way in which you light up your world as you look around really added to the feeling that you were down in a dark world, with perhaps new secrets lurking just around the corner. Little touches like the swing of Lara's braid added to the realism.

The sound was reasonably good; the voice acting wasn't Drama Movie quality, but it certainly did well as a fun action game atmosphere.

I would really recommend renting this one first to see how much the game grabs you. If you're a real Tomb Raider fan, you might be thrilled to have this in your collection. However, if you're not sure, it's best to give it a quick try before you pay out the full price for what amounts to a weekend game.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Collector's Edition Review

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Collector's Edition

Although most people disagree with me, I think this installment in the Zelda series is better than Ocarina of Time.Majora's Mask, in a sense, is its complete opposite.

While Ocarina of Time is very traditional in its format and style, Majora's Mask strays far from the ordinary.Ocarina of Time masters the epicness that Zelda can be.Majora's Mask masters the dark and mysterious side of the Zelda series.

Being a fan of the unusual, I am addicted to the idea of restarting the same three days repeatedly.Trying to get as much done before restarting is awesome. Then getting to transform into a Deku, Zora, and Goron puts this game over the top.You also get to fight the bosses (although there are only four big bosses) as many times as you like.Every time you restart the three days, you get to fight them again by warping straight to their lair.Fighting Goht is one of those experiences that's worth reliving again and again!

Lots of masks to find, swimming as a Zora and rolling as a Goron, a much more difficult final boss than Ganon in Ocarina of Time, and a much darker tone help make this game the gem that it is.I will always be in awe of this game, and I hope everyone else finds it as enjoyable as I do.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons Review

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

Fear not, Zelda loyalists, this new GBC adventure, even though developed by Capcom, lives up to the Zelda name in every way possible.Even surpassing Link's Awakening in the gameplay department, this game is a treat for Zelda purists and newcomers alike. There is great variety in Link's adventure this time around - you'll find yourself doing everything from riding mine carts to hopping, swimming, and flying around with your newfound animal buds. These animals are a great additon to the game: You'll meet all three on your quest, but you get one to "keep" as your pet. The main item here is the mystical rod of seasons.Adding great depth to the game, you'll gain the power to change the weather and landscape at will with the help of a nearby tree stump. The other items, found in dungeons and other places, are definetly the most amazing and innovative items seen yet in a Zelda game, including it's parter pak, Oracle of Ages.I won't list any of them here, but later in the game you yourself will be astounded. If the new 3D incarnations of the series are too easy for you, be prepared to meet your match. The action in this game is great, sometimes overwhelming, as the many enemies and huge, tough, bosses will certainly leave you gasping for a breather.Don't delay, even if those flashy Game Boy Advance games have caught your eye.You won't be seeing anything this good on a handheld system in a long time. And, even though its marketing scheme, don't pass up on Ages either. The two games Link together once you've completed one of them, adding more items, dungeons, and bosses into the mix.Get one, and if you're thirsting for an especially big adventure, get both. You won't regret it, and besides, its ZELDA.Do I really need to tell you this?

Game Boy Color entry into the series, coded by Capcom. Taking place in the world of Holodrum, far removed from the land of Hyrule, Link must embark on a quest that will see him traverse the land in its entirety in search of the Oracle of Seasons. By obtaining the Rod of Seasons, Link is able to manipulate the seasons by waving the wand atop any nearby tree stump. The landscape changes with each season, and though trees will be in full bloom in summer, during the winter months they'll lose their leaves, enabling Link to squeeze past them and enter new areas. Simultaneously released with Oracle of Ages, the two games are interconnected via a password feature

The Legend of Dragoon Review

The Legend of Dragoon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Legend of Dragoon has a very innovative battle system that uses combination attacks called "additions".This is innovative partly because it does require constant concentration and precise timing to execute.Basically, additions allow your characters to increase the damage caused by their physical attacks. You have to push the controller buttons at the precise moment in order to execute these additions. And, do not expect to master all of the additions for any of the characters. The most powerful additions require too many timed button presses to execute reliably.
The story is fairly standard RPG material. You play as the main character, Dart.Dart is on a journey to avenge the destruction of his village and the death of his parents.Along the way, he meets up with some very eccentric adventurers who follow him on his quests for their own personal reasons. What starts out as a journey for revenge turns out to be something more significant. As the story unfolds, it turns out that what people have believed for 10,000 years may not be the actual truth. What God had in mind for humans may not be in our best interest.Dart and company travel across three nations to try and unravel the mystery.
This game is a very good alternative to the Final Fantasy series for those who love to hack, slash, bash, and cast spells. The battle system here is much better than Final Fantasy X's.This is perhaps the most sophisticated RPG for the original playstation.Playing the game in a PS2 supposedly gives the graphics a boost, but I have not had a chance to compare them side by side.I can say that on a PS2, the graphics are very good. The soundtrack sounds great and the variety is wide enough so that the game is pleasant to play for long hours at a time.I believe it took me over 100 hours to finish the game and the side quests.

Product Description:
A four-disc RPG epic, The Legend of Dragoon is set in a time of swords, magic, and dragons. Ten thousand years prior, the Dragon War pitted Dragoons--humans with the power to control dragons--against Enslavers, magicians who sought to enslave the humans. Now Dart, a young warrior, is on a quest to find the demon that killed his parents.
The Legend of Dragoon features prerendered, 3-D backgrounds and detailed, polygonal figures. Several nonplaying characters and many full-motion video scenes take you through the complex story. The game's turn-based battle engine allows you to increase the strength of an attack through repeated button taps and shows the percentage increase you've created. A timing feature in the battle modes allows you to add devastating combinations to your attacks. The Spirit Points you accumulate during your quest can be used to unlock a special power, known as the Dragon attack.
