(More customer reviews)This is a case where Amazon's review system is not working well - or at least, what it is giving the most prominence to is out of date.When I go to the customer review page, what is currently listed as "the most helpful critical review" is 100% lying to you about The Fang product you'd be buying - it is indeed now fully programmable. There are also several other older (year+) reviews listed prominently (on the first page) stating it's not programmable.

It is programmable on a key-by-key basis, and has been for about a year now.You can whip up all the personally customized key profiles you want.

On the product itself, where the ring, middle and index finger rest in the center - there is nothing better.It's not perfect, but it is far better in that area than anything else being sold right now.

The Fang is weak in the thumb area, this is it's main drawback.The Merc Keyboard (a Fang and keyboard merged) looks like it keeps what is good about the Fang and improves the thumb area substantially.For me personally, I like having a separate device from the keyboard.

Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander Review

(More customer reviews)When I learned of this device from a friend, I had two questions: "Does it work with NovaLogic's "Black Hawk Down" game and "How much does it cost?" TO answer the first question, I contacted NovaLogic and asked them if this device would work with BHD - however, they informed me that BHD was not designed for 'game controllers'. Since this device is NOT a 'game controller (joystick, gamepad, etc) I concluded it would work fine (additionally, my friend also uses his for BHD as well). So I purchased it. As to the cost? Well, that is variable depending on where you get it.
It took me a couple of minutes to install the Commander on my XP system (USB), and I was programming the buttons shortly thereafter. Note: This does *not* replace your mouse or keyboard. It is a great addition to allow you to move your character around, perform things like crouch, jump, reload, lean, roll, hop, go prone, select weapon, emote, etc all from just 6 keys. It comes pre-programmed to allow you to move it forward and sideways to replace the keyboard directional keys (it does not "roll" on the desktop, rather, the top unit 'slides' (Forward, Backwards, Left, Right) on top of the stationary base. It also has a 'twist' function, if you desire that can be programmed as well.
Since it's designed for LEFT hand use, I found it took a short time to get used to it while mousing with my right hand (I keep the mouse for the LOOK functions and scope functions). It feels solid on my desktop and is easy to use. It does not slide around due to the rubber feet.
You can 'record' and program keyboard shortcuts on the fly (with the RECORD button), oryou can use the interface program to program your buttons. Each button has a function along with three "shift" functions (the shift button is beneath your thumb). All told, it will handle up to 72 keyboard (macro) commands (arrows, scroll lock, etc) so you do not have to take your hand off the controller to do in-game functions. NOTE: This is not a "CHEAT" - it just allows you to move your hand faster and not lose your concentration. (You can also program multiple keyboard combinations as well as a one-button 'macro')
All in all, it's worth the money. You can switch from 3 profiles on the fly - and you can save and load mappings as well. For instance, you can have one profile as a gunner, one for a medic, one for a sniper, etc.
As it works well with BHD, I'd expect the same to be true for "Battlefield: 1942" and other 3D combat games. It comes with profiles for about 30 other games (2D strategy games like Ages of Empires, etc).
Retail price for this is about $60 (and I could never find one locally) but you can find it online for much less (probably less than half of the MSR price - I got mine for about $21 + shipping).I've been using mine for several days and I'm very happy with it. It definitely enhances the game.

(More customer reviews)The Cyber Snipa takes all the keys used in FPS games - ASWD keys and those that surround it - and puts them onto one control pad.I started my computer playing days (before Windows 3.1 ever existed) with the arrow keys. In fact, I still use them (I beat Half-Life 2 using the arrow keys and the keys around that area).However, the arrow keys aren't cutting it anymore.Some of today's games are more complex and require more keys than are available around the arrows.Also, the other problem was that by using the arrow keys, it bent my wrist in such a way that after a long session of playing games, my wrist hurt.I have never gotten used to the ASWD key setup.I was constantly looking down and I would have trouble in the heat of the moment.But that is just me.It is just a matter of what you are accustomed to using in your game and how much time you are willing to practice using something else.I like my way, but I have been looking for an alternative for a while.

Enter the Cyber Snipa.It is a USB powered device (no drivers needed because it acts just like a keyboard) that puts your hand in the appropriate position to play games.On most keyboards, the W key and S key are not directly on top of each other. On the Cyber Snipa, they are, and the keys are big enough so that you don't hit either by accident.That was one big selling point to me. It fits my hand perfectly - I can reach every button with ease.Most of the buttons are bigger than your normal keyboard buttons (some are smaller) so they are easy to find and feel without looking down.Because it acts like a keyboard, you can customize and re-map any key in any game.The Cyber Snipa has function keys F1-F4, number keys 1-7, Control, Alt, Shift, Tab, and the letters around the ASWD including Q, E, R, Z, X, C, F, G.All of them are programmable in any game.

I have used the Cyber Snipa for a few days now and each time I use it my performance increases. It does take some time to get used to (like all new things) but I think it does its job.I have been using it in Half-Life 2 - I had to reconfigure two buttons, but I think the Cyber Snipa game pad is doing exactly what it is designed to do - help increase your gaming ability by putting ALL the buttons you need in one place while supplying an ergonomically correct position for your hand.The Cyber Snipa, well reviewed on other websites, is a good product that I think most gamers should add to their collection - it just might make them better gamers.

UPDATE - I have been using the Cyber Snipa while playing F.E.A.R. and let me tell you, this controller rocks.I have made significant improvements in my game playing.And now that I am used to the Cyber Snipa and don't need to look down, this device has elevated all areas of gaming, including the fun factor!

Logitech G13 Programmable Gameboard with LCD Display Review

(More customer reviews)I have used both the Logitech G13 and Belkin n52te extensively, so I thought it would be useful to write a review comparing the two products.

Usage
I have used both keypads to play World of Warcraft (WoW) extensively. Typically I use the mouse to steer my character, and the keypad to do the actions on my action bar. I use the joystick to move forward, back, and strafe left and right. My hand is average to small in size.Keys
The Logitech G13 has more keys than the Belkin n52te. In fact the main reason I bought the G13 was because I ran out of keys on the n52te. The G13 has 22 keys plus a joystick button, and two extra buttons near the joystick for a total of 25 programable items. The n52te has 14 keys, a scroll wheel up-down-click button, and two buttons by the joystick for a total of 19 programmable items. When you get advanced in WoW, the more buttons you have, the better your game will be since you can quickly do an action by pressing a button.

The n52te keys are all pretty much the same shape, and the middle key has a bump on it to help you locate where you are. The G13 has the most common keys the same shape, but other keys near the edges have a different shape. I find this helpful since I can feel the key and know where I am due to its shape. The G13 all has four keys with a concave impression to help you locate where you are on the keypad. Again, I find this more useful than the one key the n52te uses with a bumb on it.Joystick/D-Pad
The n52te has a D-Pad that allows you to control movement in 8 directions. It has an optional joystick insertion that makes it feel more like a joystick. When playing WoW, I actually only used 4 directions, and disabled the corner directionals, since it was too easy to go the wrong way by mistake. With just 4 directions (forward, back, strafe left, strafe right), it was easier to use.

The G13 has a small joystick which allows you to control 4 directions. Comparing the two, I think the G13 is much easier on the thumb than the n52te. After hours of play, and days of gaming, this makes a big difference. The G13 moves much easier and with less effort than the n52te. The G13 also pivots more naturally, so it is much easier to switch directions with less effort. The only thing I don't like about the joystick is the joystick button is very hard to press.Ergonomics
I feel that the n52te actually promotes carpel tunnel syndrome in the way its designed. The problem is that it forces you to bend your wrist upward so that you are continually putting stress on those tendons. The palm rest does not help, as it simply forces this bad wrist orientation. In order to use the n52te without pain, I actually had to prop up my elbow on some books so that my wrist could be in a more natural position.

The ergonomics on the G13 are far superior than the n52te. The way its designed it allows you to keep your wrist in its natural position, as when you are typing, without having to bend it upward as in the n52te. I can use the G13 continuously for hours upon hours with no discomfort at all.LCD
The G13 comes with a LCD display, which the n52te does not have. At first I thought I would not use it much, but now I find it to be a helpful addition. For WoW, it shows your characters stats as well as other things such as your equipment durability, so you know when it is time to repair. On battlegrounds it shows stats like how many players on each side, time elapsed, deaths, killing blows, and honorable kills. The LCD does other stuff too when you are not playing the game (time and date, cpu usage, stopwatch, rss feeds, music info, etc). So I think it is a nice bonus.Programming
I found both units really easy to program. It is very easy to assign any keystroke or key combinations or macros to any key on the keypad.Conclusion
Overall, I would say the Logitech G13 is superior than the Belkin n52te and would highly recommend you buy the G13 over the n52te. My feeling is that the G13 is the next generation of keypads with all the best features, while the n52te is the old generation of keypads which has now been surpassed.
