Barbie Pet Rescue Review

Barbie Pet Rescue

This game seems to capture the most adorable qualities of each and every pet. I've worked with our local Humane Society for several years, so I am a little critical when I see games with animals. The stunning realism and character of these animals is astounding.Their expressions and actions convey a sense of genuine personality. As for the games, I think each one of my daughters friends has a different favorite. The puppy treat toss game seems to be their overall fave. As for the Amazon.com review, it said their were only 8 missions; we have found 15 different rescue scenerios so far, with even more rescue variations. I don't think the tester used the e-mail for new rescues. In summation, if you have a young girl on your Christmas list, this game is a must.

Tribes Vengeance Review

Tribes Vengeance
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I started playing tribes with "starseige: tribes".Tribes 2 was an awesome upgrade. However, graphics, sounds, and vehicles aside, I think "tribes: vengeance" is an inferior game to tribes 2.

I have conquered the single player missions and I have played several days worth of multiplayer.Things I like are the new vehicles and the updated graphics and sounds.Things I don't like are the lack of a targetting laser, all of the packs only last a few seconds after activation, and once you activate a pack you can't "unactivate" the pack until it runs out of juice.Furthermore, you can't activate a pack until it reaches full energy.

They changed the plasma rifle into a burner rifle. The burner rifle runs off the armor energy instead of being ammo driven, which is cool except that you can't use the burner while jetting around.

You can't seem to mount turrets on walls or ceiling. There are no pulse sensor packs or motion sensor packs or cameras. There is no health kit you can use anymore. There is a repair pack which passively repairs you over time, but it doesn't really help you recover from an "oops, that was stupid of me" kind of mistake unless you run and hide for a long time. The new repair pack is cool in that it repairs all equipment and players nearby instead of just one object at a time.

Another thing I dislike is the new voice hot key list.I can no longer say I am going to defend the generator. Now, I can only say I am going to defend the base.Less specific and I think that hurts team work.Additionally, you have to hold the shift key while you are keying in the letter to say what you want to say, which takes two fingers. Before, I could key in a message while still moving with two fingers, now I can't move because the shift key has to be held, which disrupts game play and makes me a sitting duck while trying to communicate with my team.As a result, I rarely use the voice keys, which once again detracts from team play.

I don't like the fact that I can only carry three weapons even in heavy armor versus the 5 weapon slots in tribes 2.Also, the new missile launcher now requires you to guide the missiles to your target instead of being able to lock on to a target and then fire and forget.Oh yeah, there are no flare grenades either. In fact, for tribes: vengeance there seems to be only one grenade type.

The end result is that I like tribes 2 better.Tribes: vengeance is less complex than tribes 2 as far as strategy goes.I think it might be a good idea for VU to distribute tribes 2 as a bonus disk along with tribes: vengeance, since they were giving it away anyway.Maybe that will generate more sales, and if people like tribes 2 better they won't feel like they were ripped off as much.Better yet, maybe VU can add the missing components so that tribes: vengeance is actually an upgrade to tribes 2 instead of being, in my opinion, a down grade.

Great vehicles, graphics, and sounds, but in my opinion VU has wrecked the mechanics of this game.

Zeus Expansion: Poseidon Review

Zeus Expansion: Poseidon
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Poseidon is the expansion for the game Zeus, city-building in ancient Greece.New gods, monsters and heros, plus an "Atlantean" slant on the game, keep it fresh and interesting. Also, there are new adventures for Greek cities. The basic premise hasn't changed:one builds the city/colony to achieve the victory conditions in the episode. The Episodes tie together and link to each other in the adventure. The Atlantean twists are replacing the "Cultural" enchancements of the Greek city-states with "Science"-as Atlanteans prized knowledge and learning according to myth.Additional aesthethic improvements are available (as well as to the Greek adventures). Some minor bugs in the game system have been fixed; also now one may halt construction of any major building.Additionally the details about construction are much more useful than before.Speaking of bugs, I can't really think of any in Poseidon-a tribute to the team that built the program. If you enjoyed Zeus, you will really like the additional features in the enchancement.

Half-Life: Counter-Strike Review

Half-Life: Counter-Strike
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Snap that Unreal Tournament CD, cuz you'll never play it again! Counter-Strike is the most played online game ever, having more players than Quake3 and Unreal Tournament "combined", and boasting over 2000+ servers! It made the two year old Half-Life the most played game, but still, CS's playerbase is the largest!
Now, let's get into the game! It's a counter-terrorism game, allowing you to be a terrorist (T) or a counter-terrorist (CT), picking 4 different models per team, each having 144 realistic animations, you can see them reload for god sakes! You take part in realistic locations: Las Vegas, The Aztecs, Italy, The Middle-east, oil rigs, hotels, militia compounds, and many more! You are involved in many scenarios, such as bomb defusion (de_), where terrorists must plant a bomb in any of the two bomb points, where as CTs must eliminate the Ts, or defuse the bomb if planted to win. There is hostage rescue (cs_) where terrorists must hold hostages for a period of time and CTs must get the hostages and bring them to the rescue point, and, there is Assination (as_), where the terrorists must assassinate a VIP which is being escorted by the CTs to one of the two escape points. In all situations, eliminating the whole team will win the game, unless it's in a defuse situation and the bomb has been planted, the CTs must defuse it in time or the terrorists win.
You fight out with realistic weapons with highly detailed models such as the MP5, M4A1 Carbine, AK-47, a SEAL knife, 3 types of grenades, or a Glock 18. You get money to buy better weapons by killing enemies or completing certain tasks. You are able to hold only one primary, one secondary, one knife, and 4 grenades (with their own limits to certain types). You can also buy armor, defuse kits, or nightvision goggles.
Also, no more respawining in this game. Nope, you get killed, you go into "ghost" mode for the rest of the round, and must wait until a team wins until you play again in the next round. Take note that you can't withstand 50+ bullets, or pick up med kits. Nope, takes about 4-6 shots to die, and a headshot kills instantly.
Also, teamplay plays a big role in here. Run around like a wacko in Quake, you most certainly die. You can't run 50MPH like in most shooters, and a lot of times using stealth and taking cover plays a major role in succeeding. Also, using a handy radio very similar to that of Tribes will allow you to communicate with your teammates and give them orders, such as "Cover Me." or "Go! Go! Go!".
Well, the latest version is 7.1 Beta, the last beta probably. Go download this incredible mod, you will not regret it.

Product Description:
Half-Life: Counter-Strike contains all the elements of the popular online multiplayer game originally built as an add-on for Half-Life. While the version of Counter-Strike available online requires a copy of Half-Life, this standalone version contains the Half-Life engine on the CD-ROM. The team-based gameplay divides players into terrorist or antiterrorist squads. Each team has access to different real-world ammunition and equipment, and all players have unique attributes plus the ability to upgrade their gear after completing missions. Missions have different goals, such as defusing a bomb or rescuing hostages. All the multiplayer maps and gameplay from the original Half-Life Multiplayer and Half-Life: Opposing Force Multiplayer are included, plus Team Fortress Classic. Half-Life: Counter-Strike also contains four new gameplay modes of Counter-Strike: firearms, wanted, ricochet, and redemption.

Joint Operations: Escalation Expansion Pack Review

Joint Operations: Escalation Expansion Pack

This is a perfect add on to the best multiplayer warfare game on the market.Fast action, easy to learn and play, cool weapons, great teamwork.Everything about this game rocks. They added all the right stuff that was needed to make the original perfect. There is no problem with the playability, the colisions, and the weapons. It's all good.

After playing the beta test for a month, I can't stop playing this game.Sure Halo 2 and Half Life 2 slowed me down a bit.But I'm back into J.O.E. like I never stopped.Play more and more each day.Oh god!I'm addicted!Ahhhhhh!Don't buy this game! It'll keep you awake for days!!!Ahhhh!

I agree with Billy though, the Novalogic Forum Admins are clueless on how to handle a real forum. They really have a superiority complex, and keep the flow of conversation to a bare trickle of information worth reading.

Homeworld Review

Homeworld
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Homeworld is more than a technical and gaming masterpiece, but an absolute work of art. If you don't have the hardware to run it at maximum detail, it's time to upgrade. After one good firefight with an armada of ships, you'll be glad you did. The soundtrack is also exemplary- far better than most of the genre. The game is very stable, has remarkably few bugs for such a complex piece of software, and has a remarkably intuitive control system. If you've ever played a real time strategy game, it shouldn't take you more than a half hour to master the controls.
Aside from its technical excellence, the game has a compelling background and storyline. The single play missions are excellent, and the plot really draws you in. They are also quite challenging and- unlike any other RTS I've played- cumulative. That is to say, your fleet carries over into the next mission, so it's in your best interest to not go suicidal just to pass one. Despite the fact that the single play plot is linear, it is still far more engrossing than any other single-play RTS I've gone through.
More than the typical strategy game, this is really one of those titles that has a dominant tactical aspect. Just because you can build tons of units doesn't mean you'll win. For example, you could have a hundred strike craft, but if your enemy has invested in a gravity well generator or missile destroyer, an attack would be suicide. Resource gathering is also far more difficult than in most other RTS titles, and if you don't protect your gathering operations you WILL be dead. Between protecting your gatherers and your mothership, you'll have plenty to worry about. Despite this, the game doesn't force you to micromanage things. You can assign tactics to your units and have them do the thinking, which leaves you to sit back and watch the fireworks. It's the deployment and distribution of your forces that will decide the outcome.
On the aforementioned graphical aspect- it is amazing. The level of detail is on par with Freespace, but you'll see much more of the action and many more units engaging in combat. There are many detailed ships and objects in both fleets, and even more in single play. While the opposing Kushan and Taiidan fleets are nearly identical in capabilities and armaments, their ships look radically different. It's fun to change sides from time to time, just to look at the different vessels.
So, if you haven't tried this out yet, now's your chance. Even if you don't like sci-fi or strategy, you should take a look. Homeworld is bound to impress.

Zeus: Master of Olympus Review

Zeus: Master of Olympus
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I finally got my hands on a copy of Zeus, and it surely doesn't disappoint. First off I noticed that this game plays very similar to Pharaoh. The animations of the characters that walk around have been slightly improved, but the biggest leap forward is the animations of the gods who walk around your city. Those are some of the best looking sprites I have EVER seen in any game, great job on those. Another aspect of the game which I love is all the little soundbites in the game. I spent hours clicking on everything I could to hear what they have to say, most of the time its really funny. Not only that you hear the strangest comments during the game, one that stands out is I always seem to hear someone saying, "Where's my spear, how can I be a spear carrier without my spear". Just little things like that make the game exciting. As for the monument building side of this game, it does take a lot less time than building a pyramid did in Pharaoh, but don't get me wrong, we are still talking hours in some cases, not that I mind. Some of the original new parts of this game is that you can blackmail and attack other city states if you wish. Everytime I have tried thus far I usually come out on the losing end mainly cause of to small a force. The campaign structure part of the game is a little different than past city builders in that you have these smaller Adventures which don't take nearly as long. Some are a little to easy, but I still think this is a great idea for future player created adventures. What can I say, I just love this game, it expands on all other city builders, looks great, sounds great, and any game that keeps me up till 3am four consecutive nights has my vote for a great game!
