Playstation 2 Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller Review

Playstation 2 Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller
Average Reviews:

The chainsaw itself looks beautiful. To see a replica of an instrument of destruction, covered in murderous streaks of crimson gore, in a well designed display case, is admirable and humorous.

The chainsaw blade shines with its mirror-like finish, beneath the streaks of blood splattered about it.The body of the chainsaw again has droplets of blood EVERYWHERE on it (great attention to detail), which also make each unit unique in its splatter design.I was especially impressed with the bloody fingerprints on both handles of the chainsaw, and on the underside where you will place your fingers. The blood only felt a little sticky on the tops of the analog sticks.

There is a ripcord on the top of the chainsaw, which also functions as the Start button (quite novel!), that starts a short chainsaw sounding roar and rumble feature within the unit.Very excellent collector's item, the unit looks great, and the display case only adds to it.Where else do you see a blood-dripping chainsaw blade emerge from the side of a display case?

However, once I fired this puppy up, I understood why such attention was given to the appearance and collectibility side of the unit. The chainsaw is incredibly uncomfortable to use as a controller for RE4.The N-Motion feature excited me most.I mistakenly imaged this feature would allow you to move Leon's laser targeting on-screen as you moved the chainsaw around in your hands. It doesn't.Instead, by holding the chainsaw blade straight forward to approximately 45 degrees downward, a mechanism in the unit will activate the R1 button for you, which puts Leon into targeting mode, and you then aim with the analog stick, as normal. To have him release the targeting, and return to normal walking mode, you must position the chainsaw blade straight down (or less then 45 degrees upwards).

This makes the unit uncomfortable for several reasons.First, you can't play this sitting on the floor or in a recliner. You need to hold this against your belly with your legs open to allow you to lower the chainsaw blade.Second, trying to reach the XOTS buttons and left analog stick while pointing the unit straight down is both hard and painful. You spend the majority of the game running, yet can't reach these buttons comfortably now.The first batch of villagers I encountered while using this controller quickly tore me apart (and I have played through the game numerous times).

The controller would be a bigger nightmare for any other games with its awkward button fingering (L2 and R2 are used by pushing on the unit with the BACKS of your middle fingers), and Select and Start being so far away from the main buttons. And the N-Motion feature (remember, all it does is activate R1), needs to be switched off to use the controller otherwise.

Overall it's a beautiful unit and collector's piece, but incredibly poor as a functional game controller. It did not make me want to play my RE4 game, it made me want to turn it off completely.

Dino Crisis was a great game in its time back when Resident Evil 3 was out. Now Capcom has released Dino Crisis 2! I like how in Dino Crisis Two you can hold you weapon out, ready to shoot while running or walking! That is very convienant for getting those combos in killing the dinos. Also I also like the idea of extinction points you recive you killing the dinos and bonus points for no damage, then you can us e them to by medkits, weapons, tools and essenital items proceed in the game. Each charector has their own set of weapons and tools, like the homing missiles for Regina and a powerful anti tank rifle for Dylan. The T-rex is back for some more bone crushing action, plus there is rumored to be an even bigger dinosaur than the T-Rex! Dino Crisis 2 is a non stop, dinosaur blasting action game. The dinos jump out of nowhere to get you and respawn at different places.
If you are a fan of Resident Evil or Dino Crisis, Dino Crisis 2 will not dissapoint you! It even has an Area game where you can buy Dinos at the end of the game and go head to head with your friends with your Favorite Dinosarus!

Resident Evil 2 Review

Resident Evil 2

Resident Evil 2: Greatest Hits (2000). The re-release of the 1998 blockbuster sequel to Capcom's survival horror series.

When the Playstation first started out, one of the first games to put the system on the map was Capcom's first foray into survival horror games, Resident Evil. Aside from the earlier series Alone In The Dark, Resident Evil was the first game of its kind to really bring the survival horror genre to life, complete with various puzzles and zombie blasting action. Since RE1 managed to build up a solid fanbase, Capcom was soon called to make a sequel the following year. Initially, they had 60% of the game completed and it was supposed to be released in early 97, but the creators weren't satisfied with the way it was going, saying that "it needed a huge overhaul". So the original plans were scrapped, forcing the fans to wait longer. But come early 1998, the wait was well worth it when Capcom unleashed the new and improved sequel, THE must-own PSX game of 98.

RE2 was the first title in the series I played, and from the get-go, I was hooked. When I say that it's the best RE title to date, I'm not joking, as just about everything from the first game went through a MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT. I'm very glad that Capcom ditched their original plans so that a better sequel could be made. Now I'm not trying to turn this review into just gushing praise, but honestly there's so much to like about this game that beats out the original.

For starters, the graphics are VASTLY superior to the first-generation visuals of the previous game. The character models are much more detailed, the still-screen environments are more vibrant (but dark and pale enough to convey the game's atmosphere), and the crappy B-movie quality intro of the original is gone in place of excellent CG movies. The characters and monsters, while still somewhat blocky, are all brought to life much better now with numerous animations, such as head tracking, and physical gestures during cutscenes. Also, when your character takes damage, you can now tell how hurt they are by the way they walk. If they hold onto their side and limp on one foot, you know that they're close to death. In addition, the newer game engine allows many more creatures to be in the area at one time, like when you stumble into a room with 7 zombies.

Secondly, the sound is brought more into the front this time, with howls and screams of the monsters standing out more so than in the last game. It's especially noteworthy when something suddenly jumps through glass or breaks a wall. When this happens, you'll definitely jump out of your seat. As far as scares go, it'll certainly keep you on the edge until the end. Same thing with the musical score. Compared to the last game, the music is quite a bit more chilling and it seems to know just when something will come out after you. And most importantly, the voice acting is thankfully much better this time around. It's not perfect, but the dialogue and characters are very believable. For instance, Leon's character shows real determination, Claire is quite sympathetic yet assertive, and Chief Irons comes off as just plain creepy. These traits help distinguish the characters.

The story is also brought out very well. Just a few months after the events in the first game, Raccoon City is overtaken by the T-Virus, and nearly every citizen has been turned into a zombie. Two outsiders, a rookie cop named Leon Kennedy, and Chris Redfield's (from the first game) younger sister Claire, wander into the monster infested city. The two get split up from one another only to end up in the police station. They soon find more characters and monsters to contend with, and discover the deep secrets of the Umbrella Corporation as the game goes on.

The controls for the most part remain the same as in the first game, as do the menu options. You still have to backtrack often to "item boxes" to store items you can't hold in your limited inventory menu. This grows tedious, but oh well. I did find that the controls are a bit more responsive this time around. The characters have plenty of differentiation in gameplay, such as how Leon starts with the lighter, whereas Claire can open locks. Plus, both feature different weapon arsenals, so there are plenty of guns.

Perhaps the best aspect of the game is the alternate scenario options introduced for the first time. What this means is that if you started and beat the game as Leon, you then play through the same story through Claire's perspective, and vice versa. The alternate scenario takes place in most of the same areas as the first time, but this time you have to contend with the menacing 7-foot, trenchcoat wearing Neo Tyrant. The idea is that he's constantly stalking you and could appear at any time (this idea was perfected with the Nemesis in RE3). The scenario features might make the game feel shorter than the original, but technically you'd be beating the game 4 times to see all the different endings. There's also a few cool mini games and sidequests to unlock, so you've got plenty of replayability here.

About the only bad thing I can say about RE2 was the fact that the puzzles were a lot more simple and not very challenging compared to the others in the series. It's a minor flaw though and doesn't take much away from the game.

Overall, RE2 is an excellent addition to the series, and expands the original game to new heights. Since it's available on multiple platforms now, it's very easy to come across. NEW FANS SHOULD START HERE, OR ALSO THE GAMECUBE REMAKE, THEN MOVE ONTO THE OTHERS.

Resident Evil 10th Anniversary Collection Review

Resident Evil 10th Anniversary Collection

Ok... Near the bottom of the reviews is one which makes a relevant if... obstentious statement. He points out that while each of these games are worth five stars, the box set is basically a sales gimic to keep people reminded that Resident Evil exists. In a sense... he is right.

Having only missed playing the Playstation Resident Evil but playing everything else, I feel the point of the other reviewer is valid in one way.Resident Evil has very little cross-over appeal. You either love it or hate it.Only Resident Evil 4 really managed to go beyond its roots of weird camera angles and convoluted puzzles.Because there is little cross-over appeal, it is safe to say that the people who like Resident Evil have probably already bought all of these titles.Sure... its a great collection of great games. But for this to be a valid product for the many people who either already own them or are newly interested in Resident Evil there needs to be more.Much more. The inclusion of the Prima guides would be nice. Some production notes or developer interviews could help too.Even the addition of the two Resident Evil movies, which also have some trouble crossing over, could have amped this package up.

So... unlike the other reviwer I give this package a 5 BECAUSE all the games are 5's in my mind.BUT!I do agree with him that Capcom is squeezing a dry rag on this.Adding some "extras" would have made me want this IN SPITE of owning all the games already. As it is... I hope it sells well enough to get Resident Evil 5 out all the faster... if ever.

I'm real happy to play these games again. Not sure about Outbreak but Code Veronica X and Four were the best in the PS2 series! Period! Plenty of weapons and items to take it to every zombie you find! Good thing about Outbreak is it makes you think, not just blast. The others are the ones to satisfy the violence we play this game for.

Call me a dork! I just paid 50 bucks for this little thing. I have been a big fan of the resident evil games for a long time, and I thought it would be cool to have this little piece of art work. Yes it works as a controler, but I would get a little messed up using it. I would recomend this to the fans, but not for someone looking for great control. The blood splater design is one of a kind and made differently for every controler. It comes with a nice little display case. You might just want to keep it in there, and use your regular controler.

Designed with an actual Chainsaw in mind, this sculpted controller pays a lot of attention to detail and goes as far as having gory blood marks on the blade and the rumble feature for that realistic feel. The Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller can rest on its display stand, on top on your TV or trophy case. The collectable Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Controller delivers in eye-catching packaging. The gorgeous box looks exactly like a set of three-paned, doubled windows from one of the dark and dreary cabins so commonplace in the villages of Capcom's title. Clearly viewable through the windows is the chainsaw controller, which actually protrudes from one side of the box. The controller also comes with a display stand that holds the device in place. The stand itself features several bloodied rocks that are used as resting spots for the chainsaw. Meanwhile, a groove has been carved out in the stand to hold a single memory card. The chainsaw controller features a detachable cord that can be stowed in the bottom of the display stand when it's not in use. Includes display standCollector's item

Resident Evil Deadly Silence Review

Resident Evil Deadly Silence
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When Resident Evil first debuted in 1996, it was an instant classic. This is THE game that is responsible for the genre, "Survival Horror" and ten years later, you can play it on the go with your Nintendo DS.

The story is almost known to everyone in the gaming world nowadays, but let's take a recap. The STARS Bravo Team has disappeared while investigating nasty murders in the mountains near an old mansion. The Alpha team has been sent into these mountains to find their comrades, and are immediately chased into this mansion full of horror. As Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine, you'll have to survive the mansion and its terrors and unravel a conspiracy beyond belief.

Almost everyone knows the story, and on the Nintendo DS you'll find you can play through it in classic mode, rebirth mode or Wi-Fi mode.Capcom has been known for giving you different scenarios, and Resident Evil shows that perfectly. At the beginning you can choose to either be Chris or Jill.Chris can take more damage, although Jill has an easier time navigating the mansion, and gets some fairly more powerful weapons early on.

Classic Mode is basically the exact same game that was presented to us in 1996.Most--if not all--the regular enemies are still where they once were, all the secrets are unchanged and everything. If you still remember the game from ten years ago, it hasn't changed. Not at all.

Rebirth Mode is worthwhile, though.Upon playing it, there are more enemies in place, and from time to time when you enter a room you'll be in the first person perspective, fighting against an enemy that is creeping toward you.It is your job to use the stylus to slash at your enemy until he dies.At first this seems stupid, but it's actually really fun and intense.

The map is displayed on screen at all times, so unlike before, you don't constantly have to bring up the map. When you take damage the top screen also flashes, which is actually more of a distraction than anything.

Wi-fi mode, while great to have, really isn't as worthwhile as you might think.Everyone needs the game card. You can have up to four players going through a portion of the mansion.Whether you are cooperating or competing the objective is the same, to get to the goal as fast as you can.In cooperating, you both have the same life gauge and you both go at it on your own.In competative, you're both against one another trying to see who can get there the fastest.

However, the problem is that you don't ever get to actually see your partner. You're both going through these portions of the mansion but you won't run into one another, and that takes the joy out of it, really. So wi-fi really isn't worth it.

I must say, though, it's fun to play through classic and rebirth mode to check out the differences. While it is just a port, the differences aren't just small things you won't notice at all.

The controls are still a bit clunky.Yes, up is still going to be the button to move forward at all times. And if you're used to Resident Evil 4, it may be hard to go back to those fixed camera angles. So even veterans of the series may have to readjust.

The graphics aren't bad, but they are, for the most part, dated. They don't quite live up to the DS's potential, but they do look a little neater than they did on the PSX.The music is hair-raising, and is still your only warning sign of danger.Especially the sound effects of shuffling zombies, dogs clicking on the ground. This stuff sounds even better with the DS's stereo sound. The voice acting is still laughable, and I suppose that's actually amusing. The dialogue is so bad that it's classic. You'll be saying to yourself, "Wow, we've come a long way as far as voice acting and scripts are concerned."Again, if you just got off Resident Evil 4, this could be something that takes a moment to get used to.Still, the fact that you can laugh at the voices shows that the game really is a classic, as voice acting really has come a long way.

The major problems with this game are simple. It's a game that's already been redone. The Director's Cut and Gamecube versions. Also, it's a game where its age really does show. Can Resident Evil survive the test of time? The answer is, yes, it can.But unfortunately, a port might not hold true.In fact, if you've still got the original one (or the Director's Cut) it's hard to actually recommend this title to you.Rebirth Mode is great, and it's also fun to have it on the go, but there just isn't enough new content to it.It's a great game, and after ten years it's still a blast to play. But for Resident Evil's ten year anniversary, I was expecting more extras and secrets.Still, I'd say it is worth it.Pick it up, enjoy it, and relive the classic game that invented a genre.

The Good
+Classic Game
+Classic Story
+Interesting Puzzles
+The map is now displayed on the top screen
+New Touch Screen antics are really nice
+Graphics are smoother
+The Music is still really good
+You just have to admit that after ten years, the game is still pretty damn good!

The Bad
-The voice acting is terrible.Although, I like that you can see just how far games have come, you'll find yourself laughing in spite of the games overall serious tone.
-There just weren't enough new extras for this port.Yes, it's nice to have a rebirth mode, and it's nice to carry it around, but there could've been more extras thrown in here.

Resident Evil Code Veronica Review

Resident Evil Code Veronica
Average Reviews:

Many people missed this when it came out on Dreamcast. It was later ported to PS2 with the addition of the Wesker Report. The PS2 version was called Code Veronica X, I guess the X stands for Xtra content. The bottom line here is I played the game on Dreamcast and it is one of the best RE games out there right now.
It is the first RE game to be featured in a fully 3D world, the camera follows you except in some areas where the camera is static for effect. It doesn't follow you like a chase cam, but instead the camera is situated somewhere in the room and follows you as you walk by and such.
Another benefit of the 3D engine is that you can have real time lighting from gunfire and explosions. The walls will light up when you fire your shotgun, pistol, etc. No to mention the light affects your character. If the room is dark then so is your character. Light sourcing enables a new realm of reality.
RE 4 coming to gamecube later this year is also featured in 3D. Since the Gamecube is much more powerful than the Dreamcast it looks like everything is prerendered.
Code Veronica is an excellent game and the camera is a lot better than in some RE games. I found only a few spots where you were taken off guard by zombies in tight corridors.
The environments are freaky and very well done. And of course the music is completely dark and forboding just like in the other games from the series. You will not be disappointed. Pre-order now and add this to your collection with no worries.

Resident Evil 3: Nemisis is a most enjoyable and thoroughly terrifying game. If you love a good scare, along with a really fun game to play, this is your ticket! Although you don't have to have played any of the previousResident Evil games to enjoy this, it would help. In any event, thescenario puts you into the heart of a town, Racoon City, being overrun withflesh eating zombies, ghastly mutated monsters and a big nasty killingmachine by the name of Nemisis, all of whom have one thing on their minds:Kill you and make it very bloody and painful. Luckily, you, playing underthe characters of Jill Valentine and Carlos, in respective portions of thegame, come armed with some heavy duty firepower and the ability to outrunall of your attackers, even Nemisis if you're smart enough. This gamedoesn't shortchange you when it comes to horror; you will have the williesafter playing this. I certainly did. It also delivers the goods on the gorefactor too, so if you're squeamish, better to stay away, or look away atleast when you open fire on the walking dead. There are also puzzles totease your brain, as well as a good storyline worthy of a major motionpicture. George Romero, director of the Night of the Living Dead, alongwith it's two sequels, would be proud of this zombie fest. On the downside, most of my complaints are with the storyline, more then anything else. InResident Evil 2, certain things were explained and you understood thesinister greed behind the Umbrella Company's virus that turns people intozombies. Here, there doesn't seem to be much motivation behind a team ofcommandos, of which Carlos is one, for entering the fray. Also, thecharacter of Nemisis himself is never explained, as no mention is made ofwhere he comes from or why he's obsessed with killing the remainingS.T.A.R.S. rescue team, of which Jill is one. In Resident Evil 2, you foundout that the behemoth who kept popping up to kill you at certain points wasactually a scientist who injected himself with the G-virus. No such motivehere for Nemesis, but in the grand scheme of this game, it's a minor flaw. So, if you're wondering if you should invest in this game or not, I sayYES! Fire up your Playstation, Lock and load, try not to get eaten, and ifyou get really scared, leave the lights on when you play this!Welcome tothe world of survival horror...

This installment to the series is so far one of the best I've played via co-op online.Single player is ok too, but your computer helper loves wasting precious ammo.I give the game 5 out of 5 Stars but the collectors edition is not worth paying an extra 30 for.The figurine's knife handle was already broken out of the box, the bag is like any cheap bag, and the necklace and patch aren't all that great. The only real reason to get it is for the limited edition steel case.Very nice, other than that nothing.Bonus disc is a disappointment. Other than trailers to the other R.E. movies, pictures of the game scenery and characters, and a making of video aren't worth it.I guess seeing that it was on a Blue Ray disc it makes it worth more but the content isn't all that great. Not to bring down on the making, I know they put a lot of money and effort into it and my hats off to them, the marketing of the collectors edition could have been dealt with better.

You'll face faster enemies backed by improved AI. View larger. Meet Two Fierce, Playable Main Characters
Back from the original title and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, former S.T.A.R.S. special forces team member Redfield is a battle-tested, founding member of the BSAA. With a reputation for superior marksmanship and phenomenal hand-to-hand combat abilities, he's on the ground and up against a new strain of evil.
You'll call his shots from the same over-the-shoulder third person viewpoint that distinguished Resident Evil 4, except this time you'll also have the option of playing as his teammate, the fierce, local Alomar. Whoever you play as, updates to the earlier version's third-person control scheme offer more options and promise intuitive interactions.

The new cooperative game play element focuses on the realities of a dual-agent mission, highlighting the ways in which Redfield and Alomar must work together to survive the unexpected, while still allowing them to split up and work alone. To help you maximize the potential of this setup, two-player online and offline co-op modes ensure that you have options when picking a partner.
Steel yourself Against the Harsh Reality of Kijuju
An advanced version of Capcom's proprietary MT Framework game engine brings groundbreaking graphics and effects to Kijuju, the highly-developed environment where this game's action takes place. New, lifelike lighting schemes highlight the differences between harsh sunlight and extreme darkness, and when you move from one to the other, you'll have to wait for your character's eyes to adjust before you can see clearly, adding to the suspense and challenge of navigating this game's environs.

Do you want to know how much fun Resident Evil 2 is?
With a total of 4 different possible scenarios as Leon and Claire, 2 minigames involving a soldier and a piece of tofu, loads of replay value, some of the scariest moments you'll ever witness in a videogame, there's nothing to dislike about Resident Evil 2. Well, maybe the dated graphics.
But everything else makes up for it. You start the game as Leon or Claire. Depending on who you choose and what you do, you will slightly alter the story when you finish the game as the second character, ultimately making for 4 total ways to play the game, and 4 *slightly* different endings in total.
RE2 has some of the scariest monsters you will ever encounter, including the Licker, in his first (and only- so far) appearance in a standard RE game. And who can forget the infamous mirror scene... oh, you haven't played it before? Well what are you waiting for?
The Gamecube version has sharper resolution, however everything else about the game remains untouched (unlike Capcom's complete makeover of the original Resident Evil for Gamecube). So if you already own RE2 for Playstation, Nintendo 64 or Dreamcast, there's not much new here... but if you've never played it before, you have no excuse for not getting it... NOW!
Resident Evil 2... If the suspense doesn't kill you, something else will.

Wow was I amazed! Try it, even if you do have the gamecube version. To me, this is worth the money and time.

Leon S. Kennedy is back and it's been six years later. The president ordered him to rescue the president's daughter from a religious group. This is most likely a survival horror game mixed with action and stategy.

The graphics on the PS2 is a little different. The texture isn't as good and it looks more darker. Still it's pretty good compared to the gamecube version.

The controls is excellent. It may be a little hard to get use to especially if you played the gamecube version. It gives you behind the shoulder look of Leon so you know where to shoot better than the other RE games. The laser device is nice as well because you can shoot at different parts of the body. You can also use knife attacks and kick your enemies as well. Make sure you find the weak spot!

You can't even relax during the cutscenes! You might have to either dodge, sprint, or somehow get out of trouble. Besides killing all of these ganados (Spanish villagers), you have to protect Ashley from getting killed or captured. If so, game over. You can also buy weapons and other items from a mysterious merchant and can upgrade as well. Too bad there is no weapon swap. The ganados have different ways to attack either with a scythe, dynamite, axe, or choke you to death! There is even chainsaw ganados! Many more enemies are introduced later on in the game. The bosses also are challenging and better than ever! There are some puzzles introduced to advance the plot. There are no typewriter ribbons. There is probably more things to point out but we need to talk about the extras!

Extras in the game such as Separate Ways. Which you play as Ada Wong and you play the same time and same place as Leon. There is no switching to characters but that's ok. There are more cutscenes and few more hours for you to enjoy. The new grapple gun is introduced which is a nice feature. It helps you get around to out of reach places as well. New weapons are here such as a laser gun which can kill enemies pretty easily and can stun them. The costumes are useful and pretty cool to say so myself. Leon looks like a detective and looks mysterious like. Ashley has a suit of armor which is a good thing. It can protect herself from gunshots or get killed in any other way. These extras can be obtained if you beat the game once. Extras from the gamecube version are also on here. The Mercenaries where you have to kill enemies to score points and unlock characters. You can even get an unlockable weapon. The Handcannon in the main game! There is also Assignment Ada where you play as Ada Wong collecting five plaga samples and mostly avoid enemies instead of shooting them. Heavy item managment is a must. There is no knife attacks so use guns! More costumes, unlockable weapons, professional mode where enemies are challenging than normal mode. Another round where you have all of your possesions from the previous file. Last but not least, a movie browser where you can view cutscenes from the game and Seperate Ways.

Overall, it's a great game. Especially for the PS2. Play it, even if you have the gamecube version. Since there is more features into this. Great job to Masachika Kawata and the others. If you don't have the gamecube version, here is your chance! I played the game through about 20-25 hours including the extras.

In Resident Evil 4 you'll know a new type of horror, as the classic survival-horror action returns with all-new characters, controls and storylines. We last saw Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil 2 - a rookie cop in Raccoon City, fighting to stay alive. That was six years ago. Since then, government forces have managed to control the zombie threat and Leon has become a Federal agent. When the President's daughter is kidnapped, Leon tracks her to a remote, hidden fortress in Europe - where he'll relive the horror he faced six years before. Players will face never-before-seen enemies that make Nemesis seem like a kitten. You'll be wishing for the usual Resident Evil zombies!

Resident Evil 3 Nemesis Review

Resident Evil 3 Nemesis
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We've all seen them before, "survival horror" games. The idea behind them being simple.Somewhat ordinary person thrown into a ... situation that they have to survive.Allies are scarce, the enemies are plentiful, and the ammo is practically non-existent.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis brings something a little unique to the otherwise repetitive formula for Resident Evil games.Borrowing from something that was used in Resident Evil 2, the game adds "Nemesis".Basically a walking, organic, tank of a freak who's hunting you throughout the entire game. The only warning you get before he shows up to cave your head in is ominous music and his catch phrase "S-T-A-R-S!"If you haven't found the Resident Evil games scary to date, this little twist adds a whole new level of fear that keeps you on your toes throughout the entire game.
The plot is a little simplistic. It covers the day before Resident Evil 2 begins, to the day after Resident Evil 2 ends. And because the two take place in relatively the same area, there are instances where you'll explore areas seen in RE2.It's interesting to note that the creators of the game don't pay much attention to continuity. One of the most obvious examples being a window that's broken in one game, then mysteriously fixed in another.Worth pointing out, but not really integral to the plot of the game, or its worth.
The downsides of the game are little things.Voice acting is a little bad (a staple for the series), the controls are awkward, and the game is too short.
Graphics are good.Probably the best you would have seen on the Playstation One.On Game Cube they're a little below the mark, especially when compared to Game Cube's earlier Resident Evil releases like Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero. There's not a lot of improvement in the graphics on the Game Cube, or at least no imporvements that my eyes can see.The game may move a little faster but that's about it.
All in all, it's a good game for a port. And a welcomed port since Nintendo now has the Resident Evil games exclusively on Game Cube.Adding in the Resident Evil 2&3 ports, along with the upcoming Code Veronica port will put most of the games on one system, so fans wanting to play through the entire series will be able to without buying two or three systems.Based on its original merits as a PSOne game, and the seamless transition to the Game Cube, this game deserves five stars.

Resident Evil Zero Review

Resident Evil Zero
Average Reviews:

The first GameCube All Original Resident Evil. The game picks up the backstory, before the mansion, the Island, Raccoon City...before it all. Now we know why Rebecca Chambers was in the mansion in the first place. We know her story.
Controls:
Typical Resident Evil. For new RE players, a learning curve is involved, but fans will be well used to the layout.
Visuals:
Breathtaking cut-scenes and character movements. It stays in league with the RE remake and also expands in certain ways. Japanese model & singer Ayumi Hamasaki modeled for the character of Rebecca, so anyone familiar with her will know the charater is gorgeous.
Gameplay:
Typical RE gameplay, search, explore, unlock puzzles. I'm not going to go into great length on this review simply because most of us know what to expect by now.
Gameplay II:
The buddy system is like a double-edged sword. It's clever to add the new aspect to the game which helps in tough spots. You can have a character explore one part of the passenger train and the Umbrella Research & Training facility while the other explores another area. Team the two up (Rebecca Chambers and escaped convict Billy Coen) and you've got double firepower to take down the various creatures (both new ones & old ones, some of the newer are very interesting.) Certain situations will leave one character needing the help of the other, i.e. trapped in a room and the only way to get out is to have the other character solve the problem.
Sound:
One of the creepiest sound settings in RE history. Turn out the lights, put the headphones on, and play away. Every movement, natural sound, and haunting music was placed into the game.
Overall:
A great new prequel to the Resident Evil series. With RE 2, Nemesis, and Code: Veronica due out in 2003 for GameCube, the series will live on. Don't forget, the all new continuation Resident Evil 4 is due in 2003 as well.

RE, how do I rate thee?
CONTROLS, EASE OF USE:
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a controlling a helicopter in a gale-force sleet storm with no prior flight experience and 10 being controlling a food-pellet dispenser, I rate the controls ease of use a 7; I don't like steering Redfield around like a tank any better than you do, but with a little effort it can be mastered.
GRAPHICS:
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being Pong and 10 being Resident Evil for the Gamecube, I rate the graphics an enthusiastic 10; maybe the backgrounds are prerendered, but the art in this game must have been a labor of love. It's drop dead gorgeous at every turn, and Redfield, Valentine, Zombies et all look fantastic and are well animated.
DIFFICULTY:
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being a walk in the park and 10 being calculating the square root of pi with a slide rule, I rate the difficulty a 6; the puzzles in RE are pretty simple and don't provide a huge challenge, but staying alive in the mansion while maintaining your inventory and ammunition can be difficult at times.
GAMEPLAY HOURS:
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the amount time it takes for a healthy adult male to empty his bladder and 10 being the amount of time it takes an elderly tortoise with gout to complete the Tour de France on foot, I rate the gameplay hours an 8; the game doesn't take forever to complete, but there's two characters, providing a small amount of replayability. You may take into account the fact that I have a full time job and so I can't burn too many hours playing video games.RE provided a nice amount of gameplay for me.
CREEPINESS:
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being your average carnival spook house and 10 being a walk through a haunted graveyard alone at midnight naked, I rate the creepiness a 10; keep an extra pair of shorts handy when playing this one, or fit yourself with a diaper. You've been warned.
OVERALL ENJOYMENT:
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being hit in the crotch with a falling icicle and 10 being a nice frosty bowl of Quisp, I rate the overall enjoyment a 10 - heck, RE is BETTER than a nice frosty bowl of Quisp.
I wholeheartedly recommend you run right out (or, I guess you're here, so why bother running right out, just click it) and buy RE immediately.

Product Description:
Resident Evil, the game that is often credited with starting the survival-horror genre, is being reinvented for the GameCube. For those unfamiliar with the series, a mysterious corporation has secretly been performing ungodly biotech experiments in the sleepy little town of Raccoon City. When reports of gory attacks come in from nearby areas, two crack military squads are sent to investigate. Players take the role of either sharpshooter Chris Redfield or demolitions expert Jill Valentine to track down the source of the town's problems--specifically, something in a decaying mansion that's mutating animals into grotesque killers and turning humans into bloodthirsty zombies. Supplies and ammunition are scarce, so players have to know when to fight, when to run, and how to keep their wits about them. Players can't afford to waste their shots and expect their characters to survive.
The story is being retrofitted with motion-captured animation, next-generation graphics, real-time lighting and shadow effects, new areas, and newly rendered in-game video segments to create an even more cinematic experience. Also, a redesigned combat system lets players attack and defend themselves with a variety of items found in the environment.

Resident Evil 5 Review

Resident Evil 5
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just beat Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360, so I decided to post a review of the game. Here are ten important things you need to know:

1. Graphics - RE5's graphics are amazing, and they are some of the best you'll find on a console. They are sharp, the characters are highly detailed, and the lighting makes the environments really stand out and feel real. The cut scenes appear to ramp up the contrast and brightness more than necessary, but that's no big deal.

2. Controls - I embraced RE4's control scheme, but the same scheme today feels a bit outdated. You still cannot walk with your gun or knife ready. The developers say it is more realistic this way, but even in cut scenes Chris walks with his gun pointed forward. And now that I think about it, why can't I simply walk up and punch or kick someone? Why must I wait for them to be stunned?

3. Sound - A lot of the sounds including the music are very similar to RE4, which is a good thing. It helps make the game keep familiar. I noticed nothing about the sound to complain about, except that it often wasn't creepy enough.

4. Co-op - Some of the best fun I had with RE4 was getting together with friends and watching each other play through parts of the game. With RE5, we can now play together. Awesome! One problem with co-op is the fact you can't give weapons to your partner. That doesn't make any sense at all. Also, watch out when using an AI partner for Sheva. She sometimes wastes ammo, refuses to use her powerful weapons, heals you unnecessarily, and dashes off. Surprisingly though, she isn't bad enough to ruin the game.

5. Items - All items have been needlessly streamlined. The weapons are less complex, there are no more combinable treasures, and yellow herbs are nowhere to be found. Also, you can buy items anytime between chapters. I liked the merchant in RE4, but he's gone this time around. So who are you buying items from? Apparently, just a menu system. Also, RE5 redesigned the item management system in order to make it more realistic than RE4. I like how it no longer takes me out of the game, but sometimes it is hard to use. The fast equip feature via the D-pad is greatly appreciated, but it doesn't make up for the fact that the process of trading and stacking items can be cumbersome and illogical.

6. Horror - RE5's biggest issue is the fact it continues the series' trend of removing all aspects of "horror" from the survival horror genre. In fact, I would just call RE5 an action game with elements of adventure. There is rarely any suspense, the action is almost nonstop, and many of the potentially scary settings occur in daylight. The slogan for this game is "Fear you can't forget." It's more like "Fear you'll never notice."

7. Bosses - Simply put, the boss fights in this game are not as original or exciting as RE4's boss fights. Most are easy, unvaried, and unnoteworthy. Some of the boss fights don't even feel like fights, but mere struggles instead.

8. Puzzles - Unfortunately, RE5 offers virtually zero puzzles. There's not even the task of combining treasure. If you're ever confused about anything, Sheva will tell you what to do. The only thing remotely close to a puzzle is finding the blue BSAA emblems. Shooting them is a cool way to unlock bonus features. It makes you pay much more attention to your surroundings and get immersed in the environment.

9. Saving - I like being able to save my game at various points, and I like being able to start a brand new game, but these features are gone. RE5 keeps track of all items and money you have so that to play previous chapters, you always bring your latest gear. It almost makes it too easy. I miss the typewriters.

10. Charm - RE5 lacks a lot of the charm found in RE4. Chris is almost emotionless, whereas Leon was witty and classy. The quick time events in RE5 are overdone and predictable, whereas in RE4 they were fun and surprising. The only character with real "character" in RE5 is Irving. It seemed the whole cast of RE4 stood out.

Conclusion
Resident Evil 5 is a short, fun action game, but it lacks a lot of what made its predecessor so great. The only improvements are the graphics and the addition of multiplayer. The rest of the changes negatively impact the overall fun of the game. Still, it is a fun game, and I recommend it for any Resident Evil fan or those who are looking for a good action game.

Learn to Work Together
Face the Next Generation of Evil
You'll face new enemies with faster reflexes and improved AI, designed to be as dangerous alone as they are in groups and to keep even Resident Evil masters on their toes. Thankfully, they're not the only ones who have evolved. This game also offers access to powerful new weapons variations that extend your destructive capabilities.
And the updated, quick-select inventory system allows for real-time inventory management, as well as allowing characters to trade items and allowing you to place an item on the directional pad for instant access. Add all this to a detailed storyline the touches on what the past ten years have meant for Redfield and a Hollywood-caliber soundtrack, and it's clear that the latest installment in this series really does showcase all the elements at the heart of horror gaming.
