FIFA Soccer 07 Review

Fifa 07 hasn't changed much in terms of its graphics or commentary. They've added only one new league -- the Turkish league. But it only looks similar on the surface. Actual game play has been completely overhauled. Contested headers don't automatically go to one player, crosses have some curve to them. It's no longer easy to score by a straight cross from the corner. There are more volleys. The ball moves in more realistic ways. Deflectionssometimes go in the air. Shots result in a greater variety of visual outcomes.
So, playing this game is a lot more realistic. It's a lot like the winning eleven series, except that it has the benefit of all of the official league licenses and all of the other nice stuff that the series has always had. I haven't explored the manager option yet, so I can't really comment on that. Overall, a great upgrade.

Worldwide Soccer Manager 2008 Review

Having played this series since the end of the previous century, this version is the best yet. For long time fans, there have been plenty of tweaks and additions to make the game that much more addictive and consuming. For virtual newbies, the game may at first seem daunting in its complexity. Fear not, SI has your back. This year they've included a tutorial to help get your feet wet. They also got a new assistant function that will give you context sensitive suggestions. Once you've got your bearing, it becomes a bit like the Microsoft Office Paper Clip. Fortunately, it's a feature easily turned off.

In general, the game play is fantastic. All the aspects of an international career in management are present. You've got your first team, your reserve squad and a youth set-up. You train your players to keep them fit and make them better. You design your tactics the way YOU want your team to play. Then you set them loose on game day to watch them ignore your best laid plans and get trounced. ;)

Be warned: The popularity of this game is not based on fancy graphics or fast-twitch muscle fiber. To succeed at this game you've got to be patient and attentive to detail. It's very much a marathon, not a sprint.

It's been a while, several years in fact since EA Fifa has shown anything new, they tweak a little here and there but for all intents and purposes up until now not a lot has changed. In most peoples honest opinion Winning eleven has been the best franchise for this sport since early 2000 and with some great reasons, the feel of the game just wasn't there for EA, they always had the scoop on the graphics and obviously the team names but not much else..until this year.

I must admit when I played the demo I was ehh..but i took a chance cause of the long wait for the installment of winning eleven and went out and got a copy of EA fifa 08...and am I glad I did.

EA has turned the game on it's head this year, firstly the graphics are very good indeed, crisp characters all of which are easy identifiable, they even managed to get some of the bigger stars running patterns stances and so on right...not an easy task...then we come the game itself.

What really does it this year for fifa is a few thigns which i hope will revolutionize the way the game is played, what I'm talking about is the pro camera and the pro player mode...

So your on a field playing soccer you make runs, you get ignored, you call for the ball and make a run and find the ball delivered in your path before your closed down and slip it inside to your teamate who belts it into the net, sound about right in soccer..well Fifa 08 has covered this perfectly, playing Fifa this year is like actually being out on the field. absolutely superb idea, you know can control just one player and make the runs score the goals and make the passes while everything else is going on around you. Your level is counted meaning that if you are out of position lose the ball a lot or get constantly caught offside your rating is gonna drop so for the first time in any soccer game anywhere you play as a team and not a dribbler cause this is real, and in real soccer i rarely see someone gather the ball in their own half dribble the entire team and score..this year Fifa is making it real.

So hats off to that idea, the sound is the usual witty dialogue from Andy Gray and simply adds to the realism, the sound overall is decent if not outstanding, where are the boo's when an opponent touches the ball, where are the screams of the manager on the sideline? these are just things i hope is covered in the next installment...

More teams...yes finally they gave us our teams back, now granted not everyone wants to play as Derry City ( Ireland league ) but this is a world game so all teams should be covered, think of the european championship, not every tie is gonna be aginst Real Madrid, Man Utd, AC Milan, in real llife you'l get drawn against the smaller leagues too and thank gawd this has been brought back from the measily 6 leagues we had last year...so well done EA for that too.

The downside of the game, the referee, it still seems like he has swallowed his whistle, if you try a slide tackle he blow it up 9 time out've 10, so far I've only tried slide tackling 6 time, 5 of which was a foul and 1 the ref played the advantage, they probably need to work in this for the next installment, possibly a good idea is to have instead of a generic ref, to have an assortment of refs and linesmen, some more strict than others, some prone to mistakes etc, it would make the game a little more exciting if you were playing against your arch rival and saw the referee you had for todays game was prone to calling the game wrong every now and then..then after the game you'd be furious ..sound like real life soccer? But maybe this is something EA can work on for next year aswell. With a whole set of new moves, shimmy's and interesting variation of goals you can score, EA has really raised the bar which is great for gaming now it's upto Winning Eleven to dig deep and try to take back it's crown, but i have a feeling This king won't be de-throned for quite some time.

Well done EA,..Long live the King!

I've personally purchased every FIFA game since 2001 and played the game since it first appeared on the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis. That's over a decade of yearly iterations plus the "World Cup" and "UEFA" editions. I know what I'm talking about.

FIFA 08 on the PS3 is the best FIFA game ever to be released on a Sony system. The graphics and music are top-notch, but that's standard for the game's last few years.

Where the game breaks new ground is in the physics department. Never have professional athletes been honoured with such life-like avatars. Every kick, deak and tackle looks and more importantly feels like the real thing. The new shooting mechanics are inspired as are the ball physics. Combined these two components push the realism through the roof.

The list of impressive attributes continues: loading times are nearly non-existent, Create-a-player is more robust, the arena interface (also found in EA's NBA LIVE 08) is simple and fun and the addition of custom formations is a long awaited boon.

Finally the return of "The Lounge", the tweaking of "Manager Mode" and the addition of the "Be-A-Pro Mode"(which allows the user to control only one player during the match)ups the replay value exponentially.

FIFA 08 is stellar - really an awesome buy for anyone looking for a great sports game. My only complaint involves the lacklustre commentary, which despite being broad in scope is less than enthusiastic.

That small flaw aside, EA has a real winner here. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it.

2002 FIFA World Cup Review

Average Reviews:

What a disapointment! I was extatic when i read earlie this year that EA was developping a soccer game specifically for the Xbox console, based on its fifa franchise. I should have known better.
Apparently folks at EA figured they could say whatever they wanted and not only develop the game for Gamecube and PS2 but also release these versions just before that of the XBOX.
More importantly, they also figured they could do whatever they wanted. Why bother spending a lot of time on a game that will sale no matter what, simply because it is endorsed by the FIFA and has the Japan-Korea logo all over it!
So instead of spending the time necessary to build upon the previous installments of FIFA soccer, they did the opposite, they removed many features and added a "bonus material" which consists of a video documentary about the coming World Cup (who cares? this is not a dvd movie).
Since this game focuses on the World Cup, it is no longer possible to select a club or trade players! Fair enough, but where is the training mode? Where is it said that because it's only about the World Cup, it is no longer necessary to practice free kicks or set plays! This is amazing considering EA had already this feature built into its previous FIFA versions. At the same time, EA is promoting the fact that the passing system and the air play game are more complex! The only reason not to include a much needed training mode? Being able to release another version, an "improved" one this fall!
More, for those of view who liked the strategy side of the EA franchise, like the ability to change formations and offensive and defensive style on the fly... forget about it, it's nowhere to be found on this game. Similarly, you can no longer put pressure on the ball carrier by sending your guys on him!
More, the dribling scheme is ridiculous! Overall, there are fewer moves available, and, worse, they are impossible to perform. Two of them require that you press the Y button at the same time as the Black button... sure, try it! And the ability to let the user configure the controller settings himelf? of course not, this would have required more programming!
I could go on and on, however you should get a pretty good idea by now. Yes, this game has cool graphics (which sports game on the XBOX hasn't?). Yes, World Cup offers a newly designed passing system (so did fifa 2002 on ps2). Yes, this game is the best soccer game on the XBOX (but it's basically the only one if you put aside the ESPN game which is to sports game, what curling is to winter sports!).
So my advice, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Wait a few weeks until International pro soccer 2 and David Beckham's soccer game are released.
My rating: TWO THUMBS DOWN!

FIFA Soccer 09 Review

FIFA Soccer 09

Fifa almost got everything right, but the one mistake that they made (not differentiating between short and long passes) is enough to take this game from nearly perfect to merely mediocre.

Besides the addition of the comprehensive and stellar manager mode, the primary difference between this game and the former version on the Wii console is the introduction of point and play controls. Such controls revolutionize video-game football. For example, no longer must you be frustrated by continually selecting the wrong (computer assigned) man on defense; merely point to any defender on the screen, and you become that person. No longer must you become irate that your pass went inexplicably to wrong place; point to a place on the screen, and you pass to that point, whipping in the perfect cross. (Crossing the ball into the box is much more realistic and user-friendly compared to the soft, floating, pointless crosses of the 08 version.) With this point and play control, Fifa 09 for the Wii takes advantage of the Wii's possibilities in all new ways.

However, it's unfathomable that Fifa didn't test the game on any potential consumers. My little nephew would immediately realize that there's no way to differentiate a ground pass from an air pass. There's only one button with which to pass the ball, the A button, and that button is the same for every kind of pass. Want to knock it over the forward's head for him to run onto the ball? Too bad, you'll pass it on the ground. Want to slot an incisive through ball between two defenders to your midfielder? Too bad, you'll pop it up in the air. Thank you Fifa: thanks to your myopia, I've had to revert to using the Gamecube controller (Use the Gamecube controller, and the controls are perfect.), stripping the Wii of all its Wii-ness.

To think, had Fifa just had my toddler nephew test the game, the company could have assigned A button as ground pass and B button as air pass; the result would have been one of the best football games ever. A shame indeed.

Pro-Evolution Soccer 2010 Review

Pro-Evolution Soccer 2010
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(This review is long-winded, but I guarantee it will serve you.)
Can't decide whether to buy Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 or Fifa 2010 on Wii?Comparing the 2010 PES and Fifa versions for Wii leaves little to argument: if you're looking for an authentic soccer experience, PES is far superior.

Read other Amazon reviews and you readily discern that Fifa has tried something new by opting for a kiddy, arcade feel. It's as if an ignoramus in Nintendo's or EA Sports' boardroom ordered the programmers to alter a tried and true formula. The result? Like altering a long-standing Thanksgiving tradition, EA has, by analogy, brought a tofu "turkey" to dinner, and long time Fifa fans will be drastically disappointed with EA's miserable product (though young gamers may like the simple play).

Aiming to please the casual Wii sports fan, EA revamped Fifa graphics, options, and gameplay--but all for the worse. Some may think the graphics an improvement as character faces are more life-like than ever, but objectively the players look much like an out of proportioned Quasimodo. As regarding the game's options, Fifa fans will be irate that, when playing a season, there is no option to change from 2 minutes halves.Fifa's game play also suffers from such unbearable new "features" as the shooting slow-mo (The game goes into slow-mo nearly every time a shot is made.) and the corner/free-kick green ball.(You might be letting in 3 free kicks per game on the higher levels.).Fifa did significantly correct one astonishing oversight from Fifa 2009: they assigned different buttons for ground and air passes, whereas last year's version only had one button for both passes, leaving the 2009 game unplayable except with the Gamecube controller.(Fifa 2009 with the GameCube controller is a far superior game than the newer version.)

How does PES compare? My ideal Wii football game is one that takes advantage of the Wii's point to the screen abilities, allows you to play accurate/realistic passes, challenges you with life-like computer AI, and allows you to develop a team/players over a season.PES 2010 on Wii excels in all these areas, and once you read the below tips to correct some of the ostensible errors, the true fan of the beautiful game will be loving PES 2010.

As with Fifa 2010, PES 2010 allows you to point to the screen to make a pass to any specific location. While both games still need to improve the accuracy of through balls and balls over the top (In both games you will occasionally find yourself passing to the feet/chest of a teammates instead of in front of the teammate.), it is much easier to intentionally play a pass in front of the receptor in PES than in Fifa.(If you cannot figure out how to make a long, air pass in PES 2010, know the instructions in the booklet are wrong: to play a long, air pass, double tap B in rapid succession.)The brilliantly refined invention in PES 2010 is the point and drag a teammate option which allows you to make off-the-balls runs in any direction. In other words, with the control stick you can run the ball handler in one direction, while pointing and dragging a teammate to make a run in completely the opposite direction. As a result, I can finally make "el Chino" David Silva cut outside with the ball and play the perfect through pass to inside cutting "el Guage" Villa who is perfectly on-side.)At first the controls, dribbling and zone marking on defense, will seem overly complicated--and perhaps not suitable to the casual gamer or gamers under age 10--but be patient, play a season, and the wonderful instructional videos will have you executing the inspired moves within a week.(For instance, for eternity, football games have only allowed you to play give-and-go passes where the "goer" runs straight down the field.Utilizing the Wii's capacities, PES 2010 allows give-and-go passes in any direction.)As for the AI, PES 2010 is really the first football game I have ever played where the computer, on the advanced settings, does not try to dribble down the center of the field, but rather plays the ball around the field: tic-y, tac-y.Regarding options, though PES lacks the licenses on some Premiership teams and does not carry second division teams in any of the European leagues, you can play a full season with Champions League, compete in just the Champions League, dispute a country cup with any major European/South American club or national team, or create your own team--even with Mii characters.PES also features a menu in multiple-languages, as well as commentary in multiple-languages: English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese.(Me gusta m

FIFA Soccer 10 Review

FIFA Soccer 10
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I consider myself a pretty decent FIFA 09 player and immediately bought FIFA 10 when it came out, hoping that improvements made to a top-notch game would make the new game flat out amazing. After playing a few games against my real life friends and online strangers, I am not sure if I like "10" or "9" better. My biggest disappointment in the new game is that IMO, the graphics did not improve at all or maybe even gotten worse.Maybe I am imagining it but the width of the goal looks smaller.Of course, this shouldn't affect gameplay at all but it just feels like I am looking at a smaller target. The improvements in the gameplay is subtle but nevertheless clearly different with defenders having a chance against the supermen (eg. Ronaldo) of the game, making the game more defense-oriented and somewhat harder to score. Some of the differences I noticed so far:

1.Throughball doesn't work automatically unless there is a developing play where a throughball is the best play.In `09', you could just randomly throughball and somehow the offensive player would end up with the ball with a near breakaway too often.
2.Defenders are positioned much better so defense is easier to play. Also, because stars like Ronaldo can't just run away from the pack when they have the ball, defenders will have a better chance as long as they are in a good position. But the improvement in defensive positioning also resulted in heavy traffic near the goal where the play seemed a little bit clustered. At times, the phrase pinball action came to mind when it became clustered like that.
3.The view when the GK has a goal kick or instances where you have a corner, the view has changed to a more zoomed view and less overhead perspective.I personally didn't like this change due to the change in depth perception, making it harder for me to judge the players' positioning.
4.The collision physics is much more realistic and players actually bounce off each other in more realistic fashion.
5.It is much easier to bend the ball, maybe too much.On several corner kicks, I had kicks bend too much that the ball was no where near the goal almost half way between the penalty box and the half line.
6.Overall, the offensive player is forced to put together a well constructed attack and rely on crisp passing and play development more than relying on the speed and power of players like Ronaldos and the Etos.
7.The online play is smoother and when playing ranked games, the skill points is calculated after each game and displayed for you to see, showing you how the points were calculate. This was a very nice feature for someone who plays online as much as I do.

One thing that didn't change:

My number one pet peeve for '09: The number of shots hitting the goal post per game is way too much.I was hoping that this would change, but so far, the occurrence of shots hitting the goal post is still way too frequent and unrealistic.

Overall, I would say '10 is more realistic but not necessarily more fun to this veteran of '09.I definitely think '10 is a great game but I will not be getting rid of my `09' right away because they play different enough for me to consider it two different games

UPDATE: 11/5/09

So after playing for a few more weeks, I will say that I am appreciating the subtle differences between '09 and '10.I really like the new collision mechanism. It is realistic enough so that I often thwarted the other players attack by just getting in the way of the opposing team's players who don't have the ball to deny their space when there is a pass directed toward them.I have also experienced the advantage of 360 degree control as I manuever my player with the ball.Definitely a solid improvement over '09.

UPDATE: 11/23/09

A huge negative has popped up for with this game.Goalie AI.Maybe it's not even AI.Glitch is more like it.The goalie in '10 is worse than in '09.I suppose goalies making errors should be expected since a real life goalie would make can make mistakes too.But goalies have a much harder time handling shots that are directed right at them if it's low.Goalies are allowing shots that are literally next to their legs.(The animation in replay suggests that the goalie, instead of stopping the shot by moving a little to the left or the right, instead tries to squat down and tries a mini dive save on a shot. That allows the shots to go under them.
What is infuriating is that given the number of great opportunities that end in a shot off the goal post if you try to aim for one of the corners of the goal, the way the goalie allows this cheap score, it's a huge imbalance.Goalies that leap like panthers to save shots 10 feet away or sure goals that somehow the computer directs right at the goal post yet the goalie can't save balls hit next to them. What's up with that?

UPDATE: 11/30/09

I don't know what I was thinking by not mentioning this.In FIFA '09, (and I call this just plain stupid on EA's part),they didn't include a practice mode.Sure, you could pratice your skill moves 1on1 with the goalie, but that too was not that helpful because no one would play an actual match in that perspective, thus making you learn the skill moves one way but then have to make adjustments to the stick work.In FIFA '10, there actuall is a practice mode and a pretty darned good one at that. You can set the practice match to have as many offensive and defensive players as you want. You want to practice breakaways?1 offensive player vs. goalie only.5 vs. 4, 5 vs. 3.Any combination you want to hone your offensive skills. Also, you can actually practice set-pieces (FK and corners) the way it would be in the game with real defenders. By practice in this mode, I can score on about a 1/3 of my FKs inside 30 yards because I know what kick with how much power to execute.(The other 2/3 of my FKs bounce off the goal post, LOL.)If you are serious about being a good FIFA player, this practice mode will let you maximize your chances.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Whether you are a huge soccer fan or totally new to the sport this game is a blast. I bought Fifa 10 at release and have played it a ton and this game only improves on it. Same great engine from Fifa 10 is tweaked to address some major annoyances. (Defenders chesting balls in the box down straight to attackers for gimme goals, easy chips of the keeper)
Scatter shot observations.

All 199 teams, many with authentic jerseys. New stadiums and overall presentation is great although the in-game cut scenes can get a bit repetitive.

Graphics in the cut scenes are also improved and the player close-ups look better than ever. Captain your country is a pretty cool feature, and if you have a created player from Fifa 10 you can transfer him over. The stats you worked so hard to build up will not transfer though as you have to progress by performing well in qualifying and friendlies on the way to the World Cup.

Tourney mode starts with qualifying and friendlies. A simulate match option would come in very handy here since it takes forever to make it to the actual tournament.

Scenarios mode puts you in real life situations from the qualifying around the world with goals to accomplish in each game. Very fun mode with additions coming as the actual cup progresses. The announcers, while not my favorite individuals, are very accurate to situations and add to the game when you can hear them over the crowd (sliders available).

Online mode is fresh but limited to a World Cup tourney starting from the group stage. Pick one country and play three group matches to progress, then to the round of 16, and four single elimination games to win the cup. You do not have to play them all at once. Not sure how the matchmaking works but it is a blast. I would have enjoyed the inclusion of the team play modes which were a blast in Fifa 10. Doubt this was a space issue so I think it should have been included in a full price game.

I guess that is it. Overall a great purchase for most, especially if you have some competitive friends to play with!

FIFA Soccer 11 Review

FIFA Soccer 11
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am mainly interested in the Manager mode, so here are some quick observations:
- Can play Manager mode as a Manager and player, as a player only or as a Manager only. You will need to play on Professional or higher, if you want to make it to the Leaderboards.
- Manager mode is simplified quite a bit, but menus are much more cumbersome. Instead of simply playing the games, you now have a calendar mode, similar to the one in Forza 3. To get to the game, you have to let each day pass (smart way to hide the longer loading times). Maybe I'll get used to these menus, but for now, they seem too complicated.
- Transfers: You have now a menu to sort by any criteria you want. You can find many top players from Day 1 (unlike Fifa 10), but you will no longer afford them easily. In Fifa 10, you would make an offer slightly higher and the deal would almost always get through. In Fifa 11, if the player plays in the main 11 team, many times you would need to make his club a top offer (up to twice the asking transfer price). Once the club agrees, the negotiation with the player is a separate step. Fabregas would have to wait - I don't have enough money yet.
- Some things seem to be out (or buried in some obscure menus???)- no Scouting, Stadium Improvements, etc. Lots of options are in though - how to set up the team, what strategies to use, etc. Some were already available in Fifa 10, but Fifa 11 gives us even more.
- Gameplay: AI plays slightly better defense, long passes work better, dribbling is better. Shooting is not as spectacular as it was in Fifa 10, but maybe closer to reality. For a pure fun game, you may want to keep Fifa 10 around, because Fifa 11 is more tactical and scoring is not as easy as before.
- Multiplayer: you will need to activate a unique code that comes with the game. If you buy a used game, double check with the seller to be sure they didn't use the code.
- Graphics: seems to be the same engine, but the players definitely look better than in Fifa 10.

Bottom line - different game from Fifa 10, but still fun. Should you buy this over Fifa 10? Fifa 10 is a pure fun, more arcade type of game. Fifa 11 is more of a sim and is more tactical. Both are great games and different enough to be worth owning.

2010 FIFA World Cup Review

Average Reviews:

I got this game yesterday and so far I'm very impressed.

This is by far the best world cup EA has created in their FIFA World Cup series. The atmosphere, graphics, and user interface are much improved over last world cup.

First, the positives:

The game play is pretty realistic. The defense is much harder to break down than in previous versions, which seems to keep the scoreline in check.

The online mode is awesome. You can actually pick a team and challenge other teams in world cup.

As far as the graphics go, I believe they're pretty strong. Stadiums, game action, and atmosphere, everything looks good. The crowds make you feel you are actually in the stadium.

Having 199 teams is a huge plus. You can even pick Afghanistan. LOL

Having two Button game play is a great addition for new comers in game.

Penalty kicks have improved and they are alot harder to score.

Btw the Goal looks bigger.
The negatives:You still can`t play against friends in 2 vs 2 match up.

There are no clubs in it, but that doesn't bother me since I have Fifa 09 and Fifa 10.

Overall. it's a great game. If you want more features and clubs go buy Fifa 10, but if you want better graphics more International teams get this. This

game comes out every 4 years so I didn't mind paying for it and enjoy having my hometown team in there. So if you are hardcore fan of soccer or your

country didn`t make it to world cup buy this. You won't regret.Take care and I'll see you online! :)

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 Review

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me start by providing my experiences with FIFA 2011. After reading rave reviews on FIFA 2011, I decided to give it a try after skipping FIFA 2010 (also had glaring reviews) and going with PES 2010. You can read my review on FIFA 2011, but bottom line is I ended up selling it mainly due to unrealistic and indistinguishable gameplay despite FIFA touting the "realistic" gameplay.

Unrealistic because you can never execute a deadly thru-pass with a top player with just one lowly defender who stood between you and the forwards running/waiting for that thru-pass. A defender would always intercept the pass unless you direct the pass to a completely open area which defeats the purpose. In real life, playmakers like Gerrard, Iniesta, Xavi, etc provide deadly thru-passes toward inside the box past 2-3 top defenders.

Indistinguishable because no matter which team you play or who you're controlling, they all have the same characteristics and speed. Messi or Ronaldo can't out run a lowly defender. The game was boring and tedious. I loved FIFA's clean presentation, soundtracks, editing capabilities, even down to customizing the chants, but it failed to deliver in gameplay and fun factor which is the core of any video games.

So I went back to PES series and my experiences have been mostly positive. PES 2011 have a much more streamlined and clean interface. You still don't have all the licenses or real stadiums but the game play is so much better and exciting compared to FIFA. First and foremost, you can forget about all your previous skills that you may have acquired from previous PES series. The new gameplay takes some getting used to, especially the new camera angle. There is no tele angle which showed most of the playing field panning side to side following the controlling player/ball. It is now been replaced with "wide" angle with options to follow the ball or the players. When you're deep inside the opponent's half trying to provide crosses, the angle is skewed much like the "broadcast" angle that you really can't see your players waiting inside the box with a quick glance, so you really have to rely on radar. However, with practice and some getting used to, it quickly became a non-issue. The gameplay is much more realistic and fluid with no "ball sticking" that plagued previous PES series. Passing now requires well timed direction and control with power gauge indicator. But most importantly, thru-passes work in PES unlike FIFA. I can pin point and execute thru passes between defenders and experience the gratification of forwards receiving them leading to a potential goal. There are definite differences on players' mobility and skills when you're controlling a top player as opposed to other players. Messi can out run and execute some deadly feints to get past a defender, Drogba can bully couple of defenders with his size and strength, and other players' real life skills are accurately portrayed in PES 2011.

Online play is more accessible now with instant game matching within Exhibition menu as opposed to drilling down inside Online menu. I did not experience any noticeable lags even with subpar network connections. The new game plan (tactics/strategy) with drag-and-drop interface is so easy and intuitive that I find myself tinkering with different settings - something that I haven't done often in previous PES. Feint settings where you can combo series of feint moves with the right stick is also a welcome addition and fun to watch.

Sadly, this game isn't perfect. There are some glitches or short-comings:

- I lost control of my players when I accidentally pressed series of buttons on my controller. CPU took over and was controlling both teams as if the game is running in demo mode. I regained full control after a dead ball. Fortunately, I've only experienced this once.

- There are some graphic "tearing" when players are near or inside the goal. They go through the goal net with some eerie effects.

- Penalty kick system should be completely gutted and reworked. I really liked FIFA's "metered" or "gauged" controlled penalty kick system.

Minor issues aside, I'm enjoying PES 2011 more than FIFA 2011 and I think it's unfortunate that PES 2011 don't get the credit or fair reviews that it deserves from the game review community. You could find a number of high reviews for FIFA but only a handful of lukewarm reviews on PES. Not that I rely on these so called professional game reviewers' verdicts dictate my purchasing decisions but still, I think it's a shame.

Pros:
1. Realistic gameplay and physics without sacrificing fun factor in soccer simulation game
2. Ease of menu navigation and game plan (tactics) settings
3. Reliable, quick and fun online gameplay
4. Does not require online access code you have to enter like FIFA

Cons:
1. The new gameplay and camera angles take some time getting used to
2. Some graphic glitches but this could be ironed out on future updates
3. Bad, inconsistent penalty shootout system

Overall, PES 2011 is a step in right direction and despite some minor issues, it's still a fun game that you should definitely experience.

FIFA Soccer 10 (PC Import) Review

FIFA Soccer 10
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is the same as FIFA 09, the gameplay hasn't been updated much and it is surely not running on anything like the new FIFA 2010 engine that debuted on FIFA 2010 Xbox360 and PS3. It is claimed that there is 360 dribbling, this is a farce, the players don't move nearly the same as the console versions and the physical play is lacking. Furthermore, the passing is not nearly as crisp and still players will pass directly to opponent players. The list of problems, glitches and other issues continues, this is a series in need of a complete overhaul on the PC.

The graphics are horrid, the 'widget' system is still intact and the team customization options remain bland and sub-par at best. EA has continue to release lackluster PC incarnations of the FIFA series and it continues this tradition here. Avoid this game and either buy it on the Xbox360 or PS3, the true versions with 360 dribbling, physical play, and everything else, or Pro Evolution 2010, whose PC version is actually quite excellent.

Do not give EA money for this disservice to its customers, they need to be punished and see that more than a passing effort needs to be made in the PC port.

FIFA Soccer 11 Review

FIFA Soccer 11
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a huge FIFA fan, and owner of 08, 09 and 10. I thought it couldn't get any better after FIFA 10, or at least didn't thought about possible add-ons, when I first played the demo my first impressions weren't exactly the best, yes the gameplay has improved a lot and become more real, but the actual fact is that the best thing about FIFA was it's feeling of an unreal/real football, the game speed, players movement, players passing and crossing were all really fast (becoming actually faster than real life) so it felt very competitive. This game has become more realistic reducing it's speed as a con, at least those were my impressions from the demo.

Even though I turned on the fast game speed on, the game still feels a bit slow against FIFA 10, but that's notan issue because it is the right speed (at least for me) not being too fast, nor too slow. In the earlier FIFAs you didn't have to be a gamer to be good, you just had to know about football, and that had it's pros and cons, being its pros that anyone could play it and it became more competitive, and was a blast with your friends (even though none of them were video game geeks), this new FIFA version is more difficult to play and requires more skills to be able to master it, for instance I hated when someone who never played video games before beat me up on FIFA, this won't happen now. It is a completely new gameplay and you will feel like everything you knew about FIFA is gone.

The free kicks are brilliant and very effective and easy to learn (if you played FIFA 10), the 11 vs 11 matches promise a lot and you will almost feel like you are playing a real match, the career mode didn't get any new features worth mentioning, except for the be a pro goalkeeper which is fun the first matches but gets quite boring after several matches, and the squads are all updated (in the demo Madrid didn't have Ozil for example), the crowd chants and new celebrations are fantastic and very impressive can be a huge plus for fun overall. In addition to, the dribbling feels improved and more realistic and there are even new teams to the roster, plus the new Personality+ which is great but it should cover more players and not the mainstream ones.

I only have two problems for now, first of all I hate the penalty kicks new system, it is true that in the past they were very easy and the penalty shootouts lasted hours, but now they seem to be quite difficult (at least for new players), I haven't gotten the kick out of it yet, fairly said I only have a day with the game so they might become better in the future. My second issue is that they could do a bit more with the career mode, I don't know you guys but I'm quite bored of the same manager mode from FIFA 08... Maybe they could have put something new like a story mode where your be a pro player comes from a small club to end up in Manchester or Madrid.

Overall the experience is very good and fresh, it will feel like an entirely different game though, but it can be good to change the formula a little bit sometimes. The new add-ons like the crowd chantings and be a goalkeeper are solid, and the creation centre promises a lot (I haven't mess out with it yet).

Hence FIFA 12 would have to do A LOT to improve this new version, and if you are a casual soccer fan, EA SPORTS fan or just a gamer who doesn't have any FIFA at all this could be a GREAT option. If you have FIFA 10 and don't want to spend $60 in a new improved version you could still stick with it, or trade it in for the 11.

PROs:

- Great new gameplay will make gamers feel a new experience
- Veteran gamers won't have issues adapting to the new gameplay
- The crowd chantings and celebrations are a fantastic feature
- Players look better than ever, and the field looks awesome!
- The creation centre is better than ever and promises a lot for new leagues and tournaments online
- The 11 vs 11 can be quite fun, specially if you have a lot of friends who have the game
- The dribbling, passing, crossing and shooting feels more realistic than ever
- Personality+ is a great feature and amazes a lot

CONs:

- It can be quite frustrating to adapt to the new gameplay (haven't met any case yet, though)
- The penalty shootouts aren't solid and needs more improvement
- The online connection to the servers needs to be improved (this has been a common issue with EA servers for a long time)
- Needs a new and fresh career mode
- It can be quite frustrating to increase your be a pro stats
